Chapter 4
Trouble at Night
Six months had passed since Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy had escaped. They had managed to keep out of the way of the law but it did mean they were stuck in an old warehouse.
Ivy was been working on creating a special dart that could temporally knock out whilst she and Harley got away. Unfortunately, Harley was flicking pebbles at the wall. With each hit came, a clank that broke Ivy's annoyance.
"Harley could you choose a quieter activity please." Ivy asked.
"But there's nothing to do around here, can't we go outside?" Harley asked.
Ivy thought for a moment. It had been a long time since they went out and the heat had died down a bit. It was still too risky to pull off a merger crime but they could just go out and have fun, besides she did need a break from her work.
"Alright, but don't do anything that will get us in trouble." Ivy said.
"Got ya. So where are we going?" Harley asked.
"How about a movie and a bar trip?" Ivy suggested.
"Sounds great." Harley said before to get her outfit on, giving Ivy enough time to finish her work in peace.
The two went to a small rundown cinema. Whilst several films were out the only one that this cinema was showing was a poorly written horror film that had been take out of most movie houses in its first week of release.
"Two tickets please." Harley said.
The man at the ticket booth gave them their tickets and the two took their seats in the empty room. Harley had brought some popcorn to eat whilst the film played.
"Want some?" Harley asked, offering some to Ivy.
"Thanks." Ivy said as she took a small handful.
After about three hours the two women came out of the theatre, disappointed in the quality of the film they had just seen.
"Well, that was awful," Harley said.
"Tell me about." Ivy said. "I can see why it pulled out so quickly."
"And that acting, geesh. Well, at least we got to go out." Harley said.
"Yeah, we did." Ivy said.
The two entered a small bar called The Strong House. It was a fairly quiet bar with few people.
"I'm just going to the restroom." Ivy said.
"Ok, you want me to order for you?" Harley asked her best friend.
"Sure, get me cocktail." Ivy said before leaving for the restroom.
"Two cocktails please." Harley said.
"Here you go." the bartender said as he gave the drinks to the woman dressed in red and black.
As Harley began to drink her cocktail, she saw someone in the corner of her eye. Her blood ran cold. It was Joker the man she once thought was her true love but instead was nothing more than a monster who abused her.
She prayed that he won't see her but unfortunately he did.
"Hello, Harley." Joker said in a cold voice as he walked over to her.
"Mr. J what...what are you doing here?" Harley asked trying to not sound scared.
"Oh coming out for a drink. What about you? Have a drink by yourself?" he said with a wicked grin as he leaned forward.
Harley was terrified, she could barely get the words out of her mouth.
"What's the matter cat got your tongue?" he said.
"I'm...I'm..." she gulped "I'm here with a friend." Harley said nervously.
"Ivy I presume?" Joker said.
"Wh... what do want?" Harley asked.
"Why Harley, isn't it obvious?" Joker said as he moved his hand to her face. Harley wimped in fear.
"Hey, laughing boy!" Ivy said as she came back. "Leave her alone or you'll be sorry." she said as got in front of Harley to protect her from the green-haired man.
"You can't keep her from me forever Ivy, one day, you won't be there and she'll be mine again." Joker said in a cold, angry tone. He turned towards the door and exited the bar. Ivy turned towards Harley to comfort her.
"Are you ok?" Ivy asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Harley asked.
"You sure?"
"Yeah I'm sure, can we home know?" Harley asked.
"Of course we can." Ivy said. The two women paid the bartender and finished their cocktails then left the bar and headed back to the warehouse, with Ivy confiting Harley alone the way.
Meanwhile, Batman and Batgirl had just finished stopping a bank robbery and had just handed the culprits over to the police.
"Thanks, Batman and Batgirl." one of the officers said as he put one of the three robbers into the van.
"Don't mention it." Batman said.
The two heroes left as the van drove off. Barbara head back to her apartment. Once she got in and got changed into her normal clothing. She had just finished changing when her father came in.
"Barbara, are you home?" James Gordon asked as he closed the door.
"I'm here, dad." Barbara said coming out of her bedroom.
"Hi sweety, do you want some coffee?" he asked as he took his coat off.
"So how was your day." He asked as he went over to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee.
"Oh, same old same old. What about you?" she asked.
"Hard. I had to deal with these two dykes causing trouble downtown." he said, string the coffee in his cup.
"Dad!" Barbara said in an annoyed tone.
"What? They were." Jim said, turning around and walked over to the sofer.
"You know I don't like it when you use that word." she said.
"Sorry Barbara." he said sitting down next to her on the sofer and put his coffee on the small table in front of him. "But they were."
Barbara signed and rolled her eyes.
There was an awkward silence for a minute before Jim spoke.
"You know I've been thinking. It's been a while since we've done a father-daughter day and I have tomorrow off so how about we do something, your choice?" he asked his daughter.
"Alright, how about we go to the museum?" Barbara asked.
"Sounds great." he said with a smile which Barbara returned.
Jim Gordon and his daughter had a strong bond but little did they know that it would be tested.
Back at the warehouse, Ivy and Harley were having dinner. Harley had barely touched her food.
"You shouldn't let what he said get to you." Ivy said trying to make the blonde feel better.
"But if his right? What if there's a day when you're not there for me and I become his puppet again?" Harley said before she burst into tears. Ivy got up and walked over to Harley.
"Harley, look at me I promise that you will never be under Joker's control again, and I promise that I will always be there for you." the redhead said.
A smile formed on Harley's face and then she hugged Ivy.
"Thanks, Pamela. You're the best friend I could ask for." Harley said.
When they finished they continued their meal.
