Chapter 5
What is this Feeling?
A few years had passed and both Barbara and Kara were now in their early twenties. During that time Kara had joined the Justice League. She had tried to get Barbara to join but Bruce was unsure about the idea, although many of the members said she could. They were still waiting for Bruce to agree but he was warming up to the idea, but both Barbara and Kara doubt he would say yes.
It was Kara's twenty-first birthday. She came down the stairs to find her foster parents at the table.
"Happy Birthday, Kara." Jonathan and Martha Kent said.
"Aw, thank you." Kara said as entered the room, took her seat, and eat her breakfast.
"I can't believe your twenty-one." Martha said.
"Me either." Kara said.
"You know Martha was your age when I realized I loved her." Jonathan said.
"Really?" Kara said.
"We had been friends for a few years, but one day when we were talking I looked at her and saw her eyes sparkle in the sunlight. That's when I knew she was the one."
"That be the cheesiest yet sweet story I've ever heard." Kara said.
"Maybe it is but that's how it happened." Jonathan said.
"And who knows, it might happen to you." Martha added.
"Yeah, right." Kara said.
"You never know." Jonathan said.
Kara just rolled her eyes with a smile. "Well, I better be going. Bye Pa, bye Ma." she said getting her things before going off to work.
"Bye Kara." her foster parents said.
At midday, Kara was on her lunch break and had agreed to meet up with Barbara in Gotham. She got out of sight and changed into her superhero outfit before flying off to meet her friend. She had a new outfit now it was now a blue long seave top with a large red S in a yellow triangle, a red short skirt, and long red boots. She no longer had her gloves and hairband.
Barbara was waiting outside for Kara, when she looked up she saw Kara flying. The redhead walked over to where Kara had landed and waited for the blond to get her regular clothing on. Kara came out of the alleyway where she had gotten changed. She was now wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and glasses, a few years ago she had decided to give up the wig and had just told people that she had dyed her hair blond.
"Happy Birthday." Barbara said and hugged Kara.
"Thanks." Kara said hugging her best friend.
"I've got you something." Barbara said as they ended their hug.
"What is it?" Kara asked.
"You'll have to wait until your party." Barbara said.
"Can I at least get a hint on what it is?" Kara asked.
"Hhhmm. Nope." Barbara said.
"Aww." Kara signed in disappointment, causing a small chuckle from the redhead.
The two sat outside and ate their lunch in the park and had a chat whilst they did so.
"So how's your dad?" Kara asked.
"He's good." Barbara said.
"Anything interesting happened this week?" the blond asked.
"One of my friends just got engaged yesterday." the redhead said.
"Really? Well congratulations to them." Kara said.
"Yeah. She's getting married in three months" Barbara said.
"Have met the person she's marrying?" Kara asked.
"I have. He's very nice." Barbara said. "I can't blame her for having a crush on him for a year."
"Well good for them." the birthday girl said. "You got a crush on anyone?" Kara asked.
"I've got my eyes on someone." Barbara said.
"Who is it?" Kara asked.
"Oh, it's a secret." Barbara said. "What about you? Is there someone you like?" she asked her best friend.
"Not really." Kara said.
"Oh." Barbara said. "Do you think you ever will?"
"I don't I will." Kara said.
"You might do one day." Barbara said
"Ok, now you sound like Pa." Kara said with a laugh.
"What do mean?" Barbara asked.
"Well, today he told me about when he knew the moment he was in love with Ma." Kara said.
"Really?" Barbara asked.
"He said that he and ma had known each other for a few years as friends, then one day he..." She stopped once she was facing Barbara. Kara looked into Barbara's blue eyes, she had never noticed how they sparkled in the sunlight. She lost her train of thought as she looked at the beautiful redhead. Her heart beated loudly as she tried to comprehend what she feeling at this moment.
"Kara? Kara?" Barbara said. "Kara are you there?"
"Hm, oh sorry." Kara said as she came back to reality. "Like I was saying, he knew when he looked at her and saw her eyes sparkle in the sunlight that she was the one."
"Aw, that's so sweet." Barbara said.
"But cheesy." Kara added, causing Barbara to let out a chuckle.
"You got that right. Well, I've got to get going, see you later tonight." Barbara said as she left to go back to work.
"Yeah, see you later." Kara said.
The blond thought about what Johnathan had said to her that morning. She then shook her head. It couldn't be, it was probably just her imagination. Then she went back to her job.
Later that evening Kara came home, where she was having a small get-together party to celebrate. It was mostly just her parents, Clark, and a few close friends.
At seven, Barbara arrived.
"Hello Mrs. Kent." the redhead said.
"Hello, Barbara. It's good to see you again." Martha said as Barbara entered the house.
"Sorry, I'm late the traffic was terrible." Barbara said.
"Oh, quite alright." Martha said. "Kara in the front room."
"Thank you." Barbara said then went to see Kara. The birthday girl was talking to her cousin on the sofer.
"Hi, Kara." Barbara said.
Kara turned to see Barbara. "Whoa." she said seeing Barbara in a very nice black top and white long skirt. Her heart skipped a beat.
"Nice dress." Kara said.
"Thanks." Barbara said. "So is yours."
"Oh, thanks, Barbara." Kara said blushing a little.
"Hello, Barbara." Clark said.
"Hello, Clark." Barbara said. She had met him a few years ago.
As the three talked to each other the blonde looked at Barbara, mesmerized by how beautiful the redhead was in her dress. Kara then realized that she was looking at Barbara's chest. She stop her before Barbara spoke to her again.
"Can we go outside for a moment, just the two of us?" Barbara asked.
"Sure." Kara said.
"I'll be with Pa and Ma if you need me." Clark said leaving to talk to his foster parents. The two women went outside to talk.
"So what is that you need to tell me in private?" Kara asked.
"Bruce said yes." Barbara said with a large smile.
"You mean it" Kara said in shock. Barbara nodded. "Barbara that's great news." Kara said in a joyful tone.
"I know. I get to be part of the Justice League." Barbara whispered so that none of Kara's friends who didn't know she was supergirl would hear.
"Congratulations Barbara." Kara said.
In their excitement, the two hugged each other. Kara looked down smile to herself then stopped when she realized where she was looking.
"We better go back inside before they think we've left." Barbara said as they ended their hug.
"Good point." Kara said.
The two went back into the house, just in time for Kara to open her gifts. After several gifts, it was time for her open Barbara's present. She carefully took off and unboxed her present. Barbara's gift was a light blue t-shirt with a picture of her and Barbara on a rollercoaster that they had ridden last month.
"Do you like it?" Barbara asked.
"I love it, thank you Barbara." Kara said in a gleeful tone which Barbara returned with a smile.
The party ended at nine-thirty. Barbara was the last to leave.
"Bye Kara, bye Mr. and Mrs. Kent." Barbara said as she got into her car.
"Bye." the three of them said just as Barbara drove off.
Later that night Kara was lying awake wondering what was going on whenever she was around Barbara. It wasn't like this before, especially last month.
She thought back to the day she and Barbara had ridden the rollercoaster. The two had enjoyed their day at the amusement park. They had fun riding the different rides, eating snacks, and chatting whilst they waited in line. She remembered one ride that took nearly two hours to get on. In fact, it got to the point where she was looking at Barbara's backside...
That was when she realized that she had been looking at Barbara's ass on that day. Then she thought back to their zoo trip and realized she had been looking at Barbara's chest when they were at the elephant's enclosure.
Kara then realized something. She did like someone. She was in love with Barbara.
