Chapter 16
A New Home
Everyone of Big Sky has been rounded-up and into some of the Freedom-class Frigate that have been retrofitted for transporting people and a large amount of cargo in order to get to the moon. Everyone take their seats as the last of their goods and whatever they had as they are about to set out on a new journey. The passenger area looks like something from a first class jet.
Jack sits next to Tsuki as he buckles up, "I hope we aren't gonna be dumped on some desert world. I hate deserts."
"I managed to get some info back at Japan." Tsuki is trying to raise his spirits. "Good news is that Japan now has forcefields to keep the kaiju out and to prevent any more tsunamis. But typhoons are a different story. Plus, the population has increased along with marriages since all the different characters from their works showed up. So Japan's future is bright if they manage to increase the birthrates."
"Well that's good news...I think?"
"But get this: China is now divided into two."
Jack looks at her with a raised eyebrow, "Really?"
"Yeah! North China is still under the control of the People's Republic of China while the southern part is controlled by Imperial China."
"Ha!" Jack takes some pleasure in China's misfortune. "Maybe people will wake-up and finally get more jobs open rather than relying on that particular country."
Jose leans in from the seats behind between the two, "Yeah, especially that communists need to take a hike."
BING! The announcer has started, "Attention." It sounds like the announcer from Half-Life. "We will be lifting off in two minutes. Please take your seats and wear your seat belts when the light turns on as we breach the atmosphere. Thank you, and have a good flight."
Marcus is sitting next to Jack and looks worried, "Hope we don't end up in Frostpunk."
The ship takes off as they reach for the moon. Once there, they made it to the ports as they head underground. Unable to see the new landscape of the moon as they head deep below. However, many notice a large amount of transport and freighter ships coming in that also contain people that have formed their own micronations or had their micronations before the apocalypse.
Once there, everyone is taken through a concrete tunnel with florescent lights that shine the way as large amounts of people of not just human races and nationality, but also different species and fantasy human cultures walking down this long tunnel that goes on for many blocks. Some people are still wearing masks despite being cured but as a precaution.
On the end of the tunnel there is a man with a megaphone on a large concrete block saying, "Would those of Molossia please enter stargate 32. Those of the Conch Republic, please enter stargate 39."
"At least they're somewhat organized." J.H. comment.
"You can say that again." Muammar says. "Reminds me of emigration back in the old country before I arrived in the US."
"Too crowded for my taste." Liga states.
"Would those of Big Sky, please enter stargate 36."
"That's us." Richie says as he hauls a large backpack as they all walk.
"Hope we can make it to a nice location." Marcus hopes. "Hopefully nowhere freezing."
"You said that before we arrived here." Tsuki says to Marcus.
"Yeah, well, better worth repeating."
Everyone of Big Sky enter through the stargate double file as they head through the watery portal. Once there...if you guys haven't seen anything Stargate related, see the effects on YouTube.
"YAAH!" Jack went as he trips on through. "...ow..." He landed his face on a stone surface. He looks up, "Okay, where exactly are we...holy shit. This is actually a nice place."
All around is a vast grassland with mountains that already have snow on them with vast forests of maple trees that have already turned red. There is a large lake not too far where the stargate is. Close to the forest is a small, dilapidated town that doesn't look all that different from something seen from Earth. Yet upon closer inspection, it looks like something from a Fallout game with 1950-style furnishing and Radiation King television sets were a bit of a clue. Things don't look that different from Earth but there is a herd of dinosaurs that have black skin, has brown fur from the jaw to the neck to the upper belly, and has yellow crests and single horns. Above the sky, there are two moons that are actually habitable with one appearing to be a fog world and another being a forest world.
"Daaaammmnn!" Jose and Jeb went as they see their new world.
Liga looks at the strange, dinosaur-like creatures, "He aha kēlā ʻano holoholona?"
Translation: "What kinda creatures are those?"
Tsuki looks at the moons, "Sate, watashitachiha machigainaku eirian no wakusei ni imasu!" She then starts to get giddy.
Translation: "Okay, we're definitely on an alien planet!"
Muammar gawks at the moons, "'ana saeid li'anani najawt min nihayat alealami."
Translation: "I'm glad I survived the apocalypse."
Uma looks at their new home, "Is jagah ko pahale se hee pyaar kar rahe hain."
Translation: "Loving this place already."
John-Henry claps his hands, "Alright people, let's get everything set up and gawk at our new home later!"
Everyone snaps out of it and immediately went over to Marcus as Marcus stands on a rooftop while holding a megaphone.
"Listen up everyone!" he says in a calm manner, "I know that we've been kicked out of our home planet and this place looks better." Everyone nod in agreement. "But we must stay vigilant! Who knows what is out here or if this place is actually safe. We all know what a load of shit the fucking government is, no matter what their new label is, and we have to take in precautions. Best to be safe than be dead. We must build a strong defense, survey the land, report in any form of terrible thing. Once we're finished, we can form our new nation. That is all."
Richie gives orders at the house Marcus is standing on, "Okay, we need to set up a perimeter and buildup our shelters."
Jack leans close to Tsuki and whispers, "Richie giving order? Guess he must've given Marcus a good impression."
Tsuki whispers back, "Actually, Richie helped Marcus with something that involved-"
"Hey! Jack!" Marcus shouts, "We may need you guys to survey some parts of the areas and test if any water source is drinkable."
"You want us?" Jack is a bit surprised.
"Well, you guys are the only scientists we have at the moment."
Marcus approach, "Sorry, cuz. You guys are more skilled and more knowledgeable than everyone else here. Your group will split into twos and check in different directions."
J.H. points at the dinosaurs, "And what about those dinosaur-looking things? We don't know what they are."
Richie pulls out his smartphone, "Here, our smartphones are connected to the mobile computer the guys were nice enough to give us so we can tell what kind of animals there are." Richie hands Jack a spare smartphone, "Got this for you, Jack. Marcus told me you're not much of a fan of smartphones, but I think you might need this."
Jack takes it, "Thanks." he looks at his new phone, "Hopefully I can get some actual use out of this rather than being a pointless distraction." Jack takes a picture of the strange dinosaur creatures and the phone gives him the information. "It says that they're...Monocornus occidentalis. Monocorns. They're from a book called, The New Dinosaurs: An Alternative Evolution. They behave like rhinos and bison that feed on grass and roots. They migrate in slow-moving herds. Monocorns can be dangerous when provoke."
"Eso es útil." Jose comments.
Translation: "Now that's handy."
Richie then pulls out some sort of case, "And I managed to snag this from one of the soldiers." He opens it up to reveal capsules from Dragon Ball, "Capsules from the Dragon Ball series."
Jeb is impressed, "How did you get that?"
"Wasn't easy, but I do have some good teachers."
Muammar examines the label under the lid, "Let's see here. #1 Capsule Corps. House. #2 Two-Seater Zoomer Type-A. #3 Two-Seater Zoomer Type-B. #4 Two-Seater Type-C."
"Zoomer?" Uma asks with one eyebrow raised.
Richie takes out #2, "Let's find out." He press it down, throws it, and a two-seater zoomer from Jak II.
Jose goes, "¡Oye! That's one of the vehicles from the Jak & Daxter games!"
"At least it's very mobile over the terrain." Tsuki states.
Richie looks back in the case, "And there's a BARC speeder bike with sidecar in here too."
Jeb and Jose go, "Dibs on the speeder bike!"
Jack and Tsuki take the first zoomer and headed north over the hills with Tsuki driving.
"WOOOOO!" Tsuki is excited as she drives the hover vehicle across the grasslands and pass two rivers with pine forests.
"Take it easy!" Jack is gripping down tight on his seat, "You're going too fast!"
"Sorry! Can't hear you! I'm having too much fun!"
Tsuki drives the craft over eight miles as Jack screams for his life. She drives like a teenager that is free to race across the air with nothing holding her back. Nothing can stop her. Not even the ground.
Jack starts screaming, "WHERE'S THE FUCKIN' SEAT BELTS ON THIS THING!" as Tsuki gets faster.
Then Tsuki did a sudden stop that caused Jack to be flung at the base of the mountains.
"Sorry!" Tsuki apologizes.
As for Jeb and Jose, they head west as they hover at fast speeds as they past a forest and are now eight miles away from the stargate. Both of them are now high on speed and adrenaline coursing through their veins faster than the speeder bikes.
"WA-HOO!" Jeb went as he fist pump in the air, "Thank you, Star Wars!"
"Oi!" Jose says, "Race to the valley up over those mountains!"
"You're on!"
They both put the speeders in top gear as they zoom over the mountains. They managed to race through the rugged mountains and made to a valley. It was a short race and it was a tie. They stop as Jeb takes out his binoculars and looks over a town just a few miles away from the mountains.
"Got a town not too far. There's a church..." Jeb lowers his binoculars and realizes something. "Hang on a minute." he looks back with the binoculars.
He surveys the buildings with his binoculars that went from normal and average to sci-fi as he starts to recognize the buildings and the layout that gives names of the buildings. The more he looks, the more he starts to remember it. Jose also has the same binoculars and is just as puzzled as Jeb as they both recognize the town.
Jose lowers his binoculars, "Is that...Spencer's Mill?"
Jeb lowers his, "This must be Trumbull Valley from State of Decay." Jeb looks through his binoculars again, "Hold on. Got movement."
Jose uses his binoculars again, "At the church?"
"No, at the Wooly Bugger."
They both zoom in at the restaurant and see something moving. From what they can see in normal vision, there is something that is tall creature with an extremely large gut with very thin limbs that is covered in red mushrooms and blood oozing from its pours. The creature also had a bald head and glowing red eyes that is keeping its distance from the windows.
"That's a State of Decay bloater?" Jose lowers his binoculars, "That is one ugly perra."
Jeb tries linking what he sees from his binoculars to his smartphone to see what is actually is. He looks back at his smartphone as the screen flashes red which raises his eyebrows and widen his eyes.
"Ah shit!" he went, "The government did screwed us over."
Jose looks at Jeb's phone and gives the same reaction, "¡Ah mierda!"
Translation: "Ah shit!"
"We need to head back."
In the southern mountains, J.H. and Liga are checking out some of the forests to see if there are any surprises in store. On the surface, things look similar to Earth in these grasslands, or rather, prairies. Yet they pulled over to see some strange looking trees.
"What is that?" J.H. lowers the zoomer and jumps out.
They come across some sort of bush that could be mistaken for a tree. It's leaves are swollen and big as if they are balloons. J.H. pulls out his new smartphone and see what it is. One click, and he got the information.
"A balloon bush?" he reads.
Liga jumps out, "What's it from?"
"Its from a game called, Planet Explorers. It's a bush that provides resin, wood and rubber. Yet this is odd." J.H. looks back at the bush, "Back on Earth, we would usually see stuff that looks computer generated if they're from a game or a CGI animation. Like drawings or sketches from a book, cartoonish-style from cartoons. But this... The plant looks like an actual plant that isn't from a video game."
Liga takes a closer examination of the plant and she can see every detail from it. The veins in the leaves, the texture of the bark, and much more that makes it look like an actual plant than something computer generated.
"This is odd indeed." Liga states as she finishes. Then mumbles to herself, "Mahalo paha inā pili kēia i nā hiʻohiʻona o nā ʻōnaehana lā hou i kekahi ʻano."
Translation: "I wonder if this has something to do with the appearances of the new solar systems in some way."
"What?"
"Oh, just thinking out loud to myself."
J.H. and Liga's smartphones start going off with a text from Jeb. The subject: 'Code Z'.
In the east, Muammar and Uma found a like four miles away and noticed that there are some strange lifeforms around. In the lake, there are strange green fish with circular green markings on their sides, a red fish with tiny blue dots that have a strange odor and a species of bowfin that is yellowish in color yet has ornate swirl patterns down the length of its body. The pine trees are the same as the American pine trees back on Earth, but there appears to be a lot of purple pine trees that are slightly shorter than their green cousins. Aura blossoms from Star Wars can be seen in the meadow close to the lake next to that of lavender, bachani, snakeleaf, Bajoran lilacs, zan periculi, and many different mountain flowers.
Muammar steps out, "Now this is as close to Eden as we can get."
Uma stands to his right while using her smartphone, "I can't believe the amount of life on this world. This is so-"
Both of their smartphones ping with a text from Jeb that ruined the moment.
Muammar looks at his smartphone and is upset, "What now?!" He reads the text and his frustration turned to fear, "'awh allaenat , nahn mashduduna."
Translation: "Oh fuck, we are screwed."
Everyone head back to the settlement with Tsuki and Jack already building some walls and a few turrets. People in the settlement arm themselves with whatever weapons they have and load up as they prepare for the worst as the sun goes down. Because of what Jose and Jeb found, they're about to face the worst thing that they would come across: combo zombies. Zombies that combine the worst traits in many different zombie series.
Marcus look over what Jeb sent and the data says that the bloater is a mix of the blood plague from State of Decay, the Harran Virus from Dying Light, the Rage Virus from 28 Days Later and the fungus from The Last of Us. So now they have to prepare for any hordes as the sun sets to the west.
