The days quickly passed, and Toothless, Hiccup and the group of humans found themselves rather bored of sitting around and swapping stories. This normally wasn't an issue for the two alphas. Most of their days were full of running around and helping out where they could. From Toothless running a hunting party and normally being off island for most of the day, to Hiccup having group leads coming to him with questions or requests, or to simply report in as they were supposed to. Helping to keep fighting to a minimum and help break up those that start. Keeping an eye on the food stores and helping preserve what they could, and continuing on with his own personal projects, which had taken a back seat while his father and company were there.
But Toothless had put his second in command of the hunting group in charge so that he could stay around the island with Hiccup. And due to the unknown situation they'd been warned about it seemed everyone was being tentative when it came to requests and the normal amount of fighting that happened had also dropped in number. Plus from what Hiccup could tell their food stores were breaking even. On top of that Hiccup didn't want to work on personal projects while they had 'guests' around.
Ultimately this resulted in everyone being bored of sitting around. Hiccup and Toothless spoke and had let people start to come and go as they pleased again but didn't allow them to go very far. Needed them to be within range of returning incase of emergency.
"So what are we going to do today?" Toothless asked while he watched Hiccup preen himself.
"I have no idea." The half human responded. "You can go out hunting today if you'd like, I'll be fine here.
"Mmm. Only if you come with me." Toothless said while running his paw up and down Hiccup's back.
"No, I can't leave my dad here alone. As much as everyone is cooperating right now, there are still those who don't like them being here. And who knows what they'll do if we're both gone." Hiccup stood up and stretched.
"You know your dad is famous for killing dragons, right? He'd be able to handle himself and a few others too if it came down to it. Not to mention that the others could probably hold their own. On top of what are basically personal body guards currently following them around. You think Skullcrusher wouldn't step in?" Toothless began to bathe his human. Meticulously licking Hiccup from head to toe.
"It's not about whether or not I think my dad and the others couldn't take on this whole island. It's about image. The more I or actually, the more you're around them the better. If our people see you sitting next to Stoick the Vast and nothing happens then they'll trust the alliance more. I think it would be pretty hard for anyone to think that we haven't set aside our differences when both of the most lethal people to the other group are calmly sitting together. Even to those of us who still think it isn't going to work. And I know in the future, if we have one, that there will be complications. If we try to have a group integrate into Berk there assuredly will be issues. Like us, they've lost a lot to the fighting. And those wounds run deep and they like to hold grudges. But as long as we can get my dad to vouch for them. Vouch for us. Then we'll be able to change what the future holds for us and them. So yes I'd love to go hunting with you but I have to stay just to make sure nothing hurts the progress we've made. If anything you need to stay more than me. You and dad interacting is the best thing we can do."
"I think I've figured out what we could do today." Toothless said.
"Oh no, and what's that."
"Well we could take them hunting. Give them their weapons back and make a little game of it. Or maybe we do some fighting with them. I'm sure that your dad would love to try his hand at taking me out. See which one of us was really in danger when we came face to face." Hiccup grabbed Toothless face.
"Trying to impress my dad? Make sure he knows that you're right for me? Prove you can protect me?" Hiccup said jokingly.
"I don't think I need to prove to anyone that I can protect you. I've been doing it for years, and you aren't dead yet so I must be doing something right."
"I'd say so. There were definitely some close calls that if I didn't have someone there and willing to do what you've done. Well…"
"I'd rather lick you clean everyday and feed you like a mother bird would than to have you die when I could have helped. Know that there will never be a perch so low that I won't jump down to it for you. No matter how much I need to sacrifice, or what weird things I have to do. Unsightly or otherwise."
"Truly romantic." Hiccup smiled.
"What can I say? I know what my mate likes."
"I'd hope so. After being around me so much, you would learn something about me." Hiccup went to Toothless' side and hopped on his back. "Okay let's get today started and meet up with my dad in a bit."
The pair ran around getting their usual updates and meeting with those who needed them.
"I think that's it for now, wanna head up and see what my dad and everyone else is doing?" Hiccup asked.
"Well how else am I going to fight your dad if we don't go see what they're up to?" Toothless started his way up to the top of the mountain.
"Do you really want to fight my dad that badly?"
"No. It's mostly a joke. Just a suggestion. Give him something to do. Let him, or any of them really, get some stress out. I'm sure they're just as restless as any of us waiting around. Give them something to do that isn't sit around."
"Mmm. I guess. But I don't want any of them to get hurt. No reason to have them out of the fight whenever that is. They can't heal like us."
"I'm aware. I hadn't intended on hurting them anymore than some bruises. And I'm not particularly worried about them hurting me. Especially without weapons. Though if we go hunting we'll have to give them back to them just to make the game more fair for them."
"How about we let them decide. Though something tells me they'd like their swords and hammers back." Hiccup laughed as they landed. Hiccup climbed through and Toothless followed him. The group of humans and dragons were already sitting around. Having something to eat.
"Looks like everyone is up and at em' already" Hiccup greeted.
