"A hunting trip?" Stoick asked behind Hiccup. "Do you think that's a good idea? Given everything?"
"Not particularly." Hiccup admitted. "But after talking with Toothless about it and going back and forth on it, I believe that it'll be good for all of us. Since you've gotten here you've basically been cooped up with no way to leave. This will at least give you some real land under your feet. And, well, I'm not sayin' you'll be that much closer to Berk with something that'll take you there faster than anything before. All you'll have to do is ask them to take you there."
"So you're giving us a way out."
"I think it's more of a fair deal. I took away your weapons and now I've given them back. I took your way home and now you'll have the choice to go back." Hiccup looked at the group of humans sitting, looking at him. "No matter what my father asks or demands of you, I won't stop you from leaving. While we may be allies now, technically, I don't wish for you to defend with your lives if you don't believe in this new friendship. I know that most, if not all of you have families back on Berk, people who are worried about you right now. I'm sure some of you have been waiting for something like this to happen. Then when we go, find your time to slip out. Go home and see your families. But if I've convinced you. If the dragons behind each of you have convinced you. Then I ask that you stay. Or at least when you leave you try to remember them. Cause whether you like it or not each of those dragons behind you, has made you their friend, and they will remember you. And if your paths ever cross again they come to greet you, if it's safe at least. Oh, and feel free to give them a name. More or less anything will do. I recommend something that will make them feel unique. Generally I name them something related to who they are, a trait of theirs." Hiccup turned around.
"Now then. I'll let Care know we're leaving and can go whenever after that. I guess when I get back if that's cool?" Hiccup walked over to Toothless and cupped the dragon's head in his hands. "Will you help me find Care." He smiled. Toothless stuck out his tongue and licked Hiccup's forehead.
"Anything for you." He laughed while Hiccup wiped his head off. He dropped his shoulder and waited for his human to hop onto his back. Hiccup climbed onto his mate and held himself close.
"This should be fun." Toothless commented while going inside.
"Yeah I hope so. It'll be nice to get off the island ourselves. Maybe we can sneak away for some private time or something. But even if we can't sneak off it'll be fun."
Toothless looked down to see if he could spot Care. He couldn't see him right away. He slipped off the shelf and slowly began to pan around looking for Care in his usual spots.
"It should be fun." Toothless responded. "Gonna have some fun going hunting with you. I don't think we've don't this since living in that cabin you made us. Need to make sure you haven't lost your edge."
"Lost my edge? Compared to you, I never had an edge to begin with. I probably have an edge over my dad and the others but even against the other dragons that are coming with us, I doubt it. Being able to fly is a pretty big advantage."
"What? No." Toothless tried to downplay flying's advantage. "You have⦠Uhm, well you have a, great sense of direction."
"Toothless. Shut up and find Care."
"I am, it's not like he stands out much from other Nightmares. But anyway when I fly my prey can hear me coming if I'm going too fast."
"Toothless if they can hear you it's too late."
"Not all the time." The dragon tried to convince his human.
"You're digging yourself into a hole here bud."
"Well I'm not worried about that since I can fly." Toothless said matter of factly.
"Okay you need to find Care already." Hiccup said while laughing. The pair flew around for a bit more until Hiccup spotted the Nightmare they needed. "There he is." Hiccup pointed. Toothless flew over to where Hiccup pointed.
"Oh yep you're right." Toothless said while landing near the old stoker.
"Care." Hiccup called out. They could see him internally cringe at his name.
"He hates that name." Toothless smiled.
"He's the one who asked for one instead of waiting for me to come up with something better. And he knows I name you guys after traits you have."
"Yes?" The old Nightmare said while he parted through a few others he'd been talking to.
"We came to tell you that you're in charge for a few days." Hiccup said. "We're taking the humans off island for a bit, they're getting restless sitting around doing nothing."
"And we're not?"
"It's not like that. We don't know what's going on still. Unless you've heard back from a scout we're in the blind. We pulled everyone back because we thought the attack was imminent but obviously something has changed. I've given back everything I can for now. I know everyone is sitting around wondering what's going on and when this or that will happen but right now there's nothing more I can do. Trust me, I want everyone to go back to the way they were living before too. I know all those who don't regularly live here are feeling displaced. But right now we're safest with as many of us here as possible. And the second we get word back and I know what's going on, you'll all know too. All we know is that we were warned of an attack and now something has delayed it. But we don't know what that is. If it was called off for some reason, or if they hit a part of the sea the Bewilderbeast couldn't cross. We don't know. But we've sent out all those we can, even Color and a part of her team is out there now. So I'm sorry if you feel differently but this is how it is for now. We're all dealing with it, not just you."
"I meant no disrespect." Care said calmly. "I've just had more and more come to me wondering what's going on, is all."
"Tell them that this is how life is going to be for now." Toothless said. "It's a matter of safety and nothing more. If they ask more, tell them more, no need to hide the situation from them. They should already know what's happening but remind them. This situation is odd but we think this is the best way to respond to it for now. Just remind them to stay calm and do all they can to keep others the same." Toothless ordered. "Now then, we're leaving for two days and we're entrusting you to keep the peace while we're gone." Toothless turned around and shot off back towards the top of the mountain.
