Beep, beep, beep...!
The sounds of Lori Loud's bedside alarm clock filtered through the early morning air. Lori herself groaned, and rolled over in bed. She gazed blearily at her clock, only slightly comprehending that it was 6:00 in the morning.
She sat up in the near total darkness that heralded an early, Autumn morning. She rubbed her eyes blearily, and paused in her musings, as the sound of Leni rolling over in bed and groaning as well.
Something was wrong. Lori could almost taste that certainty. She didn't know what it was, but she felt a palatable sense of dread throughout her world.
As she sat there, afraid, she chose to gulp her feelings down, and get ready for the inevitable day in school. She threw her pillow over to Leni's head, hitting her eldest younger sibling.
"C'mon, Leni. Let's get up.", said Lori, rising from her own bed. Leni groaned sleepily in reply.
Despite her best efforts to forget the dread feeling that had come over her, Lori couldn't seem to get it out of her system. She dressed for school, got her homework from a nearby desk, and strode with her backpack to her and Leni's door.
She opened it, revealing her younger and only brother Lincoln there. He looked to be about to knock on her door.
Lori huffed. "What do you want, twerp?" Once she said that, she immediately regretted it. She saw in her younger brother's eyes a sense of fright.
"Something's not right.", said Lincoln, simply. He then began to move towards the staircase, indicating that Lori should too.
Lori rolled her eyes, trying to be annoyed, but growing in fear nonetheless. Outside in the hallway, Lynn, Luna, and Lola were lined up for the bathroom. Lynn, still a little delirious from sleep, looked at Lincoln walking with purpose. "Wha's goin' on?", she mumbled, confused.
Lori shot her a glare, before following her brother down the stairs. The sounds of footsteps behind Lori indicated that Luna had decided to follow as well.
Lincoln strode to the front door, and pointed out the window nearest to it. "Mom and Dad's cars are still here."
Lori raised an eyebrow. Mom and Dad are usually gone by this point, leaving Lori to take care of the rest of the children. Lori walked to the window, and looked out.
Sure enough, Lori saw that their parents' vehicles were still here.
"Like, what are they still doing here, dudes?", said Luna, as Lori looked back towards their parents' room. She strode over to the room, opened the door, and looked inside.
The room was empty, with the bed sheets wrinkled in an odd way. It looked as if there were two people who had been sleeping there, but had disappeared without throwing the covers off of them.
Lori, now really confused, walked out of the room. By this point, Luan and Lola were walking down the stairs, ready for school. Lori was about to tell them to stay inside, as she searched the house, when Luna burst in from the kitchen.
"Dude, they aren't in the kitchen, either!"
"Who's not in the kitchen, either?", said Luan, confused.
Before Lori could stop Luna, the latter told her younger siblings about their missing parents.
"Oh, please.", said Lola. "Did she put you up to this?" She jerked her head towards a still confused Luan. "This is so obviously, a prank I can practically smell it."
As Lori made sure her parents weren't in the kitchen or backyard, she heard Luan say, "Sorry, wasn't me. Though if you do want a prank..."
"Forget I said anything.", said Lola, dryly.
Lori walked back into the living room. Besides herself and Lincoln, none of the other Loud siblings were taking this remotely seriously. Luna was just confused, Lola was looking bored, while Luan was trying to bug Lola.
Upstairs, she could here the remainder of her large amount of siblings getting up and ready for school.
But Lori couldn't help but feel fear in the pit of her stomach. She walked to the front door, closely followed by Lincoln, as Lynn and Lana walked down the steps. "Are we leaving for school already?", yelled out Lana.
It was only when they were outside that Lori noticed something she hadn't before. Kids were roaming the streets of Royal Woods, looking dazed. Some younger kids were even crying.
The street was mostly empty of cars... except for a random car in the middle of the street, it's engine still running. Some kids Lori recognized as belonging to Lincoln's friend group were there, looking curiously inside the car. Even from here, Lori could see that no one was inside the car.
It was then that Lori received the scare of her life. Her phone rang, causing her to jump a mile high. She shakily grabbed her phone from her shorts' pocket, and answered it.
Before she could even say hello, Bobby's voice came in from the phone. "Babe, are you all right? Great Lake City is a mess. Our parents are all missing; CJ's going crazy; Carl's crying! Is everything the same down there?..."
The phone cut out, as Lori dropped her phone on the ground, cracking it. The car in the road immediately stopped running as well.
"Lori, what's going on?", said Lincoln.
This is a new thing I've wanted to try for a while now. The basic premise is that everyone over the age of 18 disappears off the face of the Earth.
I won't just be writing this fic for the Loud House, though. I will be writing fic's set in this universe for Ed, Edd, n' Eddy, South Park, Steven Universe, etc. Basically, it will be a shared universe of fanfiction based around this premise.
My main inspiration is the Stephen King epic entitled the Stand, wherein 99% of the population is decimated by a flu plague, and the survivors have to band together against a great evil.
Be on the lookout for other fic's like this in various cartoon fanfic archives on this site.
