Chapter 12
The bar was quite crowded tonight. Derek was getting used to it, it wasn't the usual bar where FBI agents would usually hang around, that one was more for Hard Rock and Metal fans, not really the place he would usually hang around, but well, there was no FBI agents around, and it was better to meet the Winchesters there.
They would rarely see each other during day time. No, Dean Winchester seemed like he was made for the night. If Morgan didn't know any better, he could have believed Dean was a freaking vampire. Vampire…A few months ago, he believed those were unreal. But Hell, the Winchester, and Reid, Spencer Reid, the supposedly weak genius, had shown him things which would haunt him for the rest of his life. And Dean…Dean would probably haunt him as well.
Morgan was waiting along with Reid at his side who was unusually silent. Sometimes, he still had a grudge against him for everything he did, and then a voice would remind him the kid had done the right thing, and it was thanks to him they saved Garcia and Hotch and that he met Dean…
He sighed, looking around and didn't see anyone new in here. He was starting to worry a bit, what if something had happened to them?
At his side, Reid was playing with a pen, the image of innocence. He still couldn't believe how real the mask looked: he seemed like a naïve young man, inexperienced in every way possible, afraid and submissive. But now maybe Reid had worked over so well that it became natural. Who would think that guy was secretly giving information to some vigilantes hunting monsters? That he had sneaked away secret files under the FBI noses? Hell, he was a spy when you thought about it! And Hell, who would think lean and awkward Reid could behead a vampire, or exorcise a demon? Derek had seen him do both.
And when it came to sex? People thought he was a virgin, Derek did as well, but well, meeting Johanna Harvelle once had let the team know it wasn't the case.
"Morgan? Why are you looking at me like that?"
This took Derek out of his thoughts.
"Nothing, just thinking about you, and how you're…A good damn actor."
The hurt in Reid's eyes made him realize his words came out differently than intended.
"I didn't mean it as a reproach, it's just a fact, you know."
He didn't want to hurt Reid at all, but wait and impatience was just making him nervous, the crave was getting harder t ignore, and since he couldn't fulfill it, he felt the need to let it out.
"You're still mad at me?"
"No, it's not that. It just all still feels weird. I guess I'm also worried: I hope nothing happened to them."
"You're afraid for them because you know a lot of monsters want them dead. But…"
"I'm also worried for you! You're also a prized target…The difference is that I have you under my eyes almost every days so I know you're okay."
Those words touched Reid and Derek didn't even notice the smile, he was deep in thoughts again.
They had been on a few cases involving other…creatures. One with a shapeshifter had been especially exhausting, it was the only time they had seen John Winchester again, the rest of the time his sons would come. And at times, Dean and Sam would visit here in Quantico and they would wait for them at this bar. Tonight, it was only Morgan and Reid, the latter mostly wanted to hear news from them, but for Derek, it was more than that.
"Gonna go home if he isn't here," Derek growled, starting to get angry.
"Do so, he will still find you."
Derek knew that, and maybe he wanted this: toy with the young man, make him chase him around, to see how much his lover wanted him. No…It was stupid. Maybe he shouldn't have come, maybe he should have let Reid reunite with his brothers on his own. But he couldn't. As he reflected on it, he realized Spencer also had some kind of attraction over him, a non-sexual, purely platonic attraction. He was drawn to the mystery, the strange enigma Reid was.
He still had some things to learn about the young man's past and whenever they would meet the Winchesters again, he was somehow crossing a mirror, stepping into another world he knew nothing about. It was like an ocean: millions of creatures were existing in a darkness he could never completely dive into. And that life also included people like the Winchesters, with their codes, their conflict, their knowledge, their believes. And it included Dean, the one who challenged everything he was, the one who stopped him from having anyone else because normal people felt like water while Dean was like Vodka.
"Here they are!"
And indeed, relief and desire washed though him as Dean walked in like he owned that place, sensual, confident and full of natural sass. Sam was behind him, smiling and looking a bit tired. Though he had been annoyed by the wait, Morgan was satisfied.
"Hey guys," he greeted them.
"Took your time," Derek simply stated.
Spencer hugged the two of them briefly and Sam smiled at Derek.
"Sorry for being late, but you see, Dean was persuaded he had found a short way to avoid the traffic, but well..."
"Why am I not surprised," Morgan replied, enjoying the trace of embarrassment on Dean's face and making Sam giggle.
"Shut up," Dean growled, "You're just mad because I didn't let you drive."
"If you had let me drive, we would have arrived sooner."
Dean just rolled his eyes and Derek didn't say anything further, no need to push it.
"How is Penelope?" Asked Sam
"Much better," Morgan replied, "she said she would send you a mail."
"I'll check that out."
It was indeed the case, Garcia was getting better and better, the pendant Sam gave her reassured her greatly, and they would write mails to each other quite often, Sam being quite a geek himself they would easily find stuff to talk about. After a short conversation, Reid and Sam started to speak together, giving Dean and Derek some space. He liked Sam, but he would talk to him later. For now, he wanted more.
"You want to dance?" Derek suggested.
"Not for now. I told my father about us by the way."
This came as a surprise for Morgan, he knew the young man was scared to tell his dad, and considering what they had wasn't very serious for now, he never thought he would.
"How did he react?"
"Better than I expected, he was shocked, weirded out but he eventually said he would get used to it."
"Well, that's…good."
Dean titled his head.
"What's wrong?"
"I'm glad you did it…I will have to do the same with my family, though."
"You don't have to. I mean, we started this recently."
"Then why did you tell your father?"
"To be honest with him."
"Then, you know why I have to tell my family."
"Still wanna dance?"
A memory came back to his mind: the first time he had seen Dean dancing. He had left them to go dance along with some other youths, moving nonchalantly like he didn't give a damn about anything. Then Dean had looked at him like it was the first time, his gaze burning and sharp. That night had been their first time together.*
"Sure," he admitted, the same desire creeping through him once again.
As they went together, it was pretty fun for Reid to see that for once Morgan was kinda nervous. He who was always so confident with women was like that with his brother! Dean walked backward and bit his lip, smiling hugely, and Spencer knew he was teasing.
"Dean has a hold on him, I never saw Morgan like that! Maybe this will get serious."
"Indeed, it would be good. Apparently your boss and Emily are getting serious too," Sam pointed out.
"Yes, now that Hotch's divorce is official, it will be easier for them. How do you know that?"
"Emily told Dad when he came along to hunt the shapeshifter and he mentioned it to us. By the way, Jo should come around to see you," Sam mentioned with a little smile.
This made him grin nervously, he and Jo had a relationship, it ended, but recently, they had phoned each other and texted and were speaking of trying again. It made him nervous, he didn't want to screw up, he really wished it to work. Sam was merciful and spoke of something else, knowing Reid wasn't always comfortable speaking about relationships.
They soon noticed Morgan and Dean had left. They stayed a bit, and were happy to be eventually joined by Garcia and JJ. Although they were both still a bit awkward around Dean, they were really comfortable with Sam.
"You have a new hunt?" JJ asked.
"Yeah, we're tracking a potential killer clown, or at least a spirit under that form."
"Oh dear God, don't start to talk about clowns," Garcia begged.
"Sorry, I forgot you were afraid of them!"
He explained them some details, though, in case their jobs would cross ways, until they decided they only wanted some fun. They knew they would have a lot of work tomorrow, the hunters as well as the agents, but they didn't care. Tomorrow would be tomorrow, for now, they just wanted to enjoy that night together before going on separate ways.
O o O
The atmosphere was different in Derek's car. To be honest, it was kind of nice to have someone else driving him, someone who was not Sam or his dad. He spoke of their current hunt a bit, and that was also nice: being with someone with whom he could be honest and speak of the job instead of lying. Derek also told him about their last case, and then spoke a bit of his family and then they went on the relationship matters. One of his sisters had relationship issues with her boyfriend.
"He is not a bad guy, but he hardly make efforts for her, he still acts as if they weren't serious, but she would like more.
"Well, can't completely blame him, myself, I tend to be a guy who never really keep someone long. Well, you are an exception, I admit it, but otherwise, I'm rarely
"Yeah, exactly, so I know what you're doing. Stop acting like that."
"Like what?"
"The carefree guy who don't want relationship; I saw you in 'big brother' mode, and Reid told us how you took care of him and Sam when John wasn't around and it would happen often. You even taught him to drive, I know that. You're not the irresponsible and careless guy you're trying to convince us you are. I know that, not only because I'm a profiler but because I talk to one of your brothers almost every days. The real reason why you never had long term relationship is because that life hardly allows you so, and trying to convince yourself you're fine with it is easier."
Dean snorted, not really knowing what to answer, because in the end, Derek was right. It was easier to pretend he was just not the kind of guy who didn't want a steady relationship rather than admit his life had never prepared him for it.
"Sometimes I hate you."
This and the way Dean was trying to hide his expression made Derek huff. He didn't really know how to tell him without sounding awkward or anything like it, but Morgan admired him. He was really touched to know how much Dean had been here for Reid. The kid had a rough life, and it would have been worse without the Winchesters and Dean had played a big role in that. He was maybe not on the right side of the law, but Dean Winchester was dedicated to people and that was something Morgan could only admire.
They arrived at his house and Derek told him he was doing some construction work in his house, it would go under modification. Passing the door, Dean took his jacket off nonchalantly, letting it slides down his arms slowly, it wasn't too affected, only enough to draw attention. It succeeded, Derek couldn't help but feel that little shiver passing through him again. Dean acted as if he was only paying attention to the work which had been done on the house.
"You do it by yourself?"
"Yep. Demolishing things can be one hell of an outlet."
"If I wanted to play the profiler, I'd say it's a way to pass out your frustration because I'm not around as often as you wish."
With that he turned to Morgan with a teasing smile. Derek shook his head, he knew he kinda deserved it. "Sometimes I hate you."
With that, Derek pushed and pinned him against the closest wall and kissed him hungrily and embraced him like he feared Dean could vanish at any moment.
"I see we're getting started already! Go ahead, show me how much you hate me!"
He was startled when Dean bit him as soon as the kiss broke, his teeth plunging in his neck like vampire's fangs. Clumsily, they started to take off their clothes while kissing and Dean giggled as he almost tripped while backing away toward the bed. For long a moment, neither criminals nor monsters could come into their minds, they only thought of them, of what they wanted, of being together. They were alive, very alive, and very addicted to each other.
Even when they were lying in the bed, panting, the first thing which came into Dean's mind was that Derek really was right.
"You know, Jo would like to come and live around. She wants some independence from her mom and she would like to know you and your team. But mostly, she wishes to get closer to Reid, because if they want to start again, they'd better be close."
"That makes sense," Morgan simply replied, letting Dean going on.
"…I'm starting to think maybe…Maybe we could do that with Sam. To get closer to Spencer…To you all."
"To us all?" Derek laughed.
Dean bit his lip and sighed. "To you in particular in my case. I'm sorry, I've never been in very serious relationships before, even less with guys."
"Well, you're the first man I date as well."
"Seriously?!"
"There is something in you, you're…I don't know, but I'm at ease with you."
Actually, he knew: Dean was reassuring. This protective, altruist aspect of his personality, that was far away from the man who once hurt Derek so much. But he didn't want to speak of Carl Buford to Dean for now, yet he had the feeling he would be able to do it in the future, without Dean looking down on him. But for now, he wanted to focus on something else.
"You could try indeed. With fake identity papers and all, you could start a new life maybe. Garcia could also hack a few things to ease it up for you. You'd have to be careful, though."
"I know…But well, if I can escape monsters and all, I can get away from jail. And that way, I can make sure nothing happens to you."
Derek gave him an incredulous look and Dean shrugged.
"You know, from the monsters wandering at night."
"Oh, I'll have to call you on Halloween, then, who knows if the costumed ain't big bad wolves in disguise."
"You'd be surprised!"
Morgan smiled, for once, the mention of creatures wasn't that scary anymore. He contemplated the idea of having Dean around more often. Yes, he would like that. They eventually fell asleep and were only awaken when Morgan clock alarm warned them the morning had came.
Dean yawned loudly, Morgan knew already he wasn't a morning person, he could be a bit grumpy and clumsier and honestly it was quite a fun sight.
"Come on, let's make some breakfast," Derek declared, playing the energetic guy just to make Dean growl in annoyance.
They had barely started eating their eggs when Derek's phone rung and he saw it was Hotch.
"Hey Hotch, what's up?"
"Morgan, have you seen the News?"
"No, why?"
Morgan listened carefully under Dean's questioning eyes. He eventually hung up, and looked at then young hunter.
"Well, it seems like we'll have to work all together again."
