Continued from chapter six as the part happens at the hotel. How will Sam take being at the hotel with a bunch of strangers?
Ch 7: Sixth Birthday Party
(Third Person POV)
When the two girls woke up the next morning, Alastor was already awake and making breakfast for them. Since it was Elena's birthday, he was making her favorite, French Toast with extra vanilla and with a little bit of whipped cream on top. He just hopped the imp girl liked what he was making as well. If not then he planned to just make her what she wanted. He wanted her to feel at home after all. At least for Elena's sake since she was her friend.
Elena sat up and stretched a moment in her bed. She rubbed her eyes and then soon realized what day it was. She got excited and rolled out of bed to make sure to wake up Sam. "Hey, you awake?"
The imp groaned and made some mumbled noises, pulling the blanket over her head.
The young hybrid laughed. "Come on Sam, my dad is making breakfast for us. He always makes me breakfast for my birthday." She told her while poking the lump in the air mattress.
Sam pulled the blanket back from her head. "Finnnne. I'm up."
Elena giggled and then hugged her friend from on top of the blanket. "Yay! Let's get up and go get some food then!" She stood up from the air mattress and gave another stretch. "You like French Toast?"
"I don't think I've had it honestly." Sam answered as she sat up. "So, I guess we'll find out."
"Oh, you will love it. My dad is the best cook. He makes amazing French Toast. That's why I love it so much." Elena said as she went to brush her hair.
"Well I guess I'll just have to take your word for it." Sam said as she stood up and stretched as well.
The imp went to her backpack and pulled out her brush to brush her hair as well.
Soon after there was a knock on Elena's door and it opened up to show Heart. "Hey girls, I see you're up. Did you sleep ok last night Sam?" She asked as she looked at the Imp.
"Yes, thank you." Sam answered. "Never sleeping on an air mattress before. Was actually comfy."
"Well, I'm glad. Breakfast is done so you can come out and eat when you're ready." She told them.
"Ok mom. Thank you." Elena said as Heart walked back into the hallway and closed the door. She turned back to Sam. "We can get dressed after we are done eating. You ready?"
The Imp nodded. "Yep. Let's head off."
The two girls walked out of Elena's room after they were done brushing their hair and headed into the kitchen where Alastor already had a plate in the middle of the table. Elena's eyes went wide at the sight. Sam thought that they did look pretty good. Heart was already at the table and eating a few pieces as well.
"Sam, if you don't like what I made just let me know and I can make you something else. Ok?" Alastor told her as the two girls took a seat.
"O-Oh, thank you v-very much. I'll let you know." She said to him a little shaky. She had to get used to the Radio Demon actually being nice.
Alastor just gave her a smile as he went back to the stove. Elena grabbed a few pieces of French toast and put them on her plate. She grabbed her fork and knife and started to cut a piece. She put it in her mouth and her fur on her tail stood up. It was amazing.
"These taste fabulous dad. Thank you so much for making them." Elena said as she shoved another bite in her mouth.
Alastor chuckled. "Of course, my light. I'm always happy to make whatever you want. Especially since today is your birthday."
Elena gave a small chuckle as she finished her bite. "You always know what I like dad so I'd never be disappointed,"
Alastor glanced over his shoulder at her. "As you know, I am always here to please."
Sam then took a piece and cut a bit off before popping it in her mouth. She had to admit, it did taste pretty damn good. She had never had French Toast and now she wonders how she went on without it. She grabbed two more pieces and some syrup that was on the table and started to dig into them.
The deer demon watched all that happen and he was glad that the imp girl enjoyed them. Heart was sitting there as well and was going to ask Sam what she thought but that was already answered as she watched the girl shove her face with them. She tried to not give a laugh as she was also eating.
Breakfast was quiet as Alastor read his paper and drank his coffee. Elena and Sam talked about the food and how good it was. That made the parents happy. When it was over and everyone had their fill, they helped clean up and two girls headed back into Elena's room to get dressed for today. Rufio followed after the girls and went into her room as well.
"So where are we going again?" Sam asked as she pulled out a dress from her bag.
"To the hotel my parents work at. All my aunts and uncles are usually there and they all throw me a party every year. Just for use of course, it's something small. I never really want anything big." Elena explained to her as she was putting on a dress as well.
"A hotel huh? That's a little weird but I won't judge." Sam said as she slipped into her dress.
As the two girls were getting ready there was a knock on Elena's door. "Do you girls need any help getting ready?" It was Heart on the other side. She didn't want to open the door just in case.
"No, I don't think so mom. We're ok." Elena answered.
"Ok, I am going to get ready so when you're finished just wait in the living room." Heart told her.
"Noted." The hybrid girl answered with a small salute, even though her mother couldn't see.
The two went back to getting ready. As Elena was looking for her one hair clip, Rufio came up beside her with the clip in his mouth.
"Thank you Rufio. You're a good boy." The girl cooed at him as she gave him a few pets on the head and a scratch behind the ear.
"So, Elena, can you answer me something?" Sam wondered as she put some thigh high socks on.
"Sure, what's up?" Elena turned around so she could face her friend.
"Why do you guys have a pet hellhound? Isn't your dad enough protection?" She asked.
Rufio looked at the girl and then to Elena. The young hybrid went back to petting his head. "Well, my mom told me that Rufio was a gift from dad. He was to protect her when he wasn't around. It was before I was born though, never really told me why. Always said that bad people tried to take mom away and after that my dad realized that she needed protection when he couldn't give it." She smiled and then wrapped an arm around the hound's neck. "Now he protects me. Plus, he is like another one of my best friends. He is a good boy." She scratched the hound on his neck and he leaned into the touch as it felt good.
Sam gave a small chuckle as she watched the hound get scratched. "He does seem like a good boy. I can understand though to have someone protect you when your dad isn't around."
Elena nodded. "I don't know what I would do without him." She hugged the hound around his neck.
When the two finally finished they did as Heart said and went into the living room to sit down and wait. They decided to watch a show that was on to keep them distracted. Soon Alastor was the first to come down and then Heart not long after. Once they established that they were all ready they headed out to the car. Rufio was going along, so the hound was excited to be going out of the house.
When they all got into the car they headed on their way. The two girls sat in the back with the hound in the middle of them, but it didn't stop the two from asking 20 questions while they sat back there. At least the hotel wasn't that far away.
Once they got to the hotel, Alastor parked the car and they got out. When Sam stepped out and looked at the place, she was honestly intimidated. At the same time, she had heard about this hotel and part of her was shocked. This place always got made fun of, mainly because of what it was trying to achieve. She never thought she would find herself here. She honestly questioned going inside a moment but ended up following her friend. She wouldn't tell anyone that she was here.
Once they got inside, they were greeted by the staff as they hung around the lobby. Elena went running up to Charlie who had her arms out waiting for her. "There is the birthday girl." Charlie let the girl out of the hug. "My goodness I think you have grown from last year for sure." Charlie pointed out.
Elena laughed. "I don't think I grew that much, Aunt Charlie."
"Oh, you definitely did." Charlie said as she patted the girls head and then stood up. She looked over and saw the small Imp girl that stood with Alastor and Heart. She looked down to Elena. "Did you bring a friend to your party this year?"
"I sure did!" Elena answered with a wag of her tail. She ran over to Sam and grabbed her hand. Sam was surprised when she got pulled from her spot and over to the woman. "Charlie, this is my friend from school, Sam. Sam, this is my Aunt Charlie." She introduced them.
The imp was super nervous as she was greeted to the older demon. She thought she looked familiar and her brain was trying to figure out where she has seen her before. She just couldn't put her finger on it. It wasn't until a few seconds later that it finally clicked.
"Wait...your...the princess?" Sam finally said.
"Live and in person!" Charlie smiled big.
"Do...do I need to bow or anything to you. Something crazy like that?"
Charlie looked at the imp confused but soon gave a chuckle. "No no. We don't do formalities at all here. Don't worry so much. We are all friends and personally I prefer it. I may be the princess but that doesn't mean I want you bending over backwards."
Sam gave a small sigh at that. "Ok good. Either way it's nice to meet you."
Soon then Vaggie walked over to Charlie and whispered in her ear. The princess turned to her wife and nodded. She turned back to the girls. "Sam you might as well met Vaggie as well. She is my second hand here at the hotel and my wife."
Sam bowed her head a little. "It's nice to meet you."
"You seem to be a nice Imp, but don't get out of line." The moth said sternly.
Elena leaned over and whispered in her friend's ear. "Don't mind Aunt Vaggie, she can be very strict."
Sam just gave a small giggle.
After the Imp had met those two Elena went around the room and introduced her friend to Husk, who didn't care or course and Nifty, who was more than excited to meet the Imp she had heard Elena talk about.
Soon Lizzy and Kota showed up as well and the girl made sure to have her friend greet her aunt and her fiancé. Yes, Lizzy finally accepted Kota's proposal after these last few years of leaving him hanging. She eventually knocked down her walls enough to say yes to the man last year and ever since then have been trying to get everything ready. Honesty Lizzy was kind of excited. They were to be married in a few months in the summer and Elena was going to be their flower girl.
Not long after Angel Dust walked into the hotel with Russ in tow.
"Uncle Angel! Uncle Russ!" Elena ran up to the spider to give him a hug.
The spider caught the girl and had to keep his balance. "Jeez kid ya ain't getting any lighter." Angel said as he hugged the girl and she hugged him around the neck.
Elena laughed. "Sorry, it's just a habit."
"No worries little wolf girl. Just don't topple me over and we're good." Angel told her with a chuckle.
Then Dr. Talon came down as well. He apologized for being late as one of his rats had gotten out and ran all over his lab. Elena was excited to see her 'grandpa' as she also went to give him a hug.
After everyone got settled down, they all headed to the small conference room where they had everything set up for her party. Once they walked in Elena's eyes went wide and her tail wagged behind her. She loved having color themed parties more than regular parties. She just loved colors. This year she chose to have aquamarine as the color theme and she was happy to see the color filled the room. She ran around the room looking at everything.
When she came back over to the staff she bowed. "Thank you so much everyone. It all looks wonderful!" She thanked everyone.
"We are glad you like it." Charlie clapped with happiness. "Now let's get this party started!"
With that everyone went into the room and the small group of them went about celebrating Elena's birthday. Sam hasn't been to many parties, but she still had fun. There were games and stuff that they played and it was something different. She enjoyed herself and at the same time Elena was just glad to have someone her age in order to play with.
Heart and Alastor stood back a moment to just enjoy the scene of their daughter and how happy she was. They were grateful that they put her girl in school. She found a friend after all, she found Sam. The imp helped Elena so much. In more ways than one that some probably didn't realize. That was something her parents could be grateful for.
It was Vaggie's idea to get a pinata this year for Elena to try. It looked like the head of a unicorn. It was honestly very successful. The girls thought it was fun. Nifty enjoyed it too. Some of the older demons even gave it a whack or two. It didn't actually break until Alastor's shadow gave a little bit of help to it. When the candy came pouring out of it, Elena made sure to fill up her bag with it as well as Sam.
The imp loved how much fun she was having. The pinata was a nice touch. Then the candy, that might as well be the icing on the cake.
Speaking of cake, it was time to have Elena blow out her candles. The hybrid sat at the head of one table. As they had six candles on her cake. It matched the rest of the color scheme of the party with having the aquamarine color around the border and a flower as well on the cake. The letters were written in a light green though so that it could still be seen.
As they sang to her, Elena looked around the room at everyone. Her heart was just filled with so much joy to have everyone here with her. To know that she was loved no matter what happened. That nothing she did would ever change their views about her.
As she spotted Sam, she was even more grateful. The Imp may be her only friend, but it was better than not having one at all. She hoped that their friendship went past just this school year. She was the reason Elena was enjoying school a lot more. That and the bullies kept off her thanks to Sam. It makes her happy to have an awesome friend like her around.
Heart saw the look her daughter gave to the Imp and it made her smile to no end. Almost wanted to cry. She just leaned into Alastor more and the deer demon wrapped an arm around her waist. She laid her head on his shoulder a moment.
Once they got done singing, she blew out her candles.
"What did you wish for?" Sam asked as she leaned into her friend.
Elena gave a chuckle. "If I told you then it won't come true. It's bad luck you know." She elbowed the imp lightly.
That just caused Sam to laugh. "I know, I just wanted to see if you'd tell me anyway."
Nifty took the cake away so that she could cut it, and everyone got a piece of cake. They started to talk and eat with some small conversations. A lot asking how Elena was doing in school. The girl would tell them how much fun she was having and all the things she was learning.
After that was all done Elena wanted to open her presents. Nifty cleaned up the plates while Charlie went to put the rest of the cake away. When they both got back Elena went over to the table that has some gifts on it and went for some small ones first.
The first gift she opened was actually from Sam. It was a box of chalk.
"You always play with the chalk at recess, so I thought about maybe getting you your own for home or if you want to take it to school." Sam explained the gift with a soft blush.
"Thank you, Sam. I've wanted some of my own after using them at school. I appreciate it." Elena said smiling. She then gave her friend a hug since she was sitting next to her.
Everyone looked at them softly from the scene and tried not to be too emotional. Soon Elena had opened the rest of her presents. Nifty got her more coloring books. Husk gave her a card with some money in it because the cat was just lazy and couldn't think of a gift. Charlie and Vaggie got her a new blanket with a unicorn on it so that she could put on her bed if she wanted. Angel and Russ bought her a handful of new dresses and outfits since the girl was slowly growing out of her old ones. Dr. Talon bought her some flower seeds and a new pot to plant them since he knew the girl was starting to enjoy gardening according to Alastor. Lizzy and Kota got her some new books that were higher level since the girl was starting to read a lot better now.
Last was the gift from Heart and Alastor Elena was surprised that her parent's gift wasn't on the table with the rest of the others. She was almost saddened to think that maybe her parents didn't get her anything. She was going to say something, but her dad beat her to it. "Now little light, I see you are questioning things. Our gift was too big to wrap so we had to surprise you with it."
Elena's ears went up and her tail wagged behind her. "What is it? What is it?" She wondered with excitement.
Alastor gave a chuckle from her excitement. "Close your eyes a moment ok?"
Elena did as told and closed her eyes as Alastor told her to do. Her tail wagged with excitement behind her. As her eyes were closed Alastor snapped his fingers and the present appeared from him and Heart as well as a few blank canvases. Alastor pulled a tablecloth off of the one table and put it over top of it and it managed to cover it barely. Heart walked up beside Alastor and wrapped a wing around him. She looked at Elena with such a big smile.
"Ok you can open them now." Alastor told her.
When the girl opened her eyes again and looked at the blue tablecloth that covered the present she ran over and pulled it off. When the tablecloth pulled away and it showed the art easel and the canvases, she looked so shocked. Her red eyes went wide, and she just stared at it for a few moments.
"I thought you were ready to start painting things other than paper Elena. So, I thought your own easel would be perfect." Heart explained to her.
Elena's smile just widened, and she looked to her parents. She ran over to them and hugged them both around their legs. There was a stream of 'Thank you' that came out of the girl as she jumped slightly in excitement. Her parents gave a chuckle to the girl's excitement and they leaned down to give the girl a hug. She hugged them back in return tightly as her tail went a million miles a minute.
"We are glad you like it Elena." Heart said as she looked like she was about to cry.
"I love it! I wish I had my paint with me, but I guess that can wait till we're home." Elena said a little sad.
Alastor nodded. "Agreed. It can wait till you get home."
The two stood up and Elena looked at the easel a little closer and was loving it more and more. She was excited to try and paint something on it.
"Why don't you go play with your chalk outside with your friend?" Alastor suggested.
"Ask Charlie first." Heart quickly added.
Elena turned to her parents with a nod. "I like that idea. I'm going to go ask."
The young hybrid went to the table to grab the chalk and then went over to Charlie who had started to talk to Dr. Talon.
Elena tapped Charlie on the hand to get her attention. "Aunt Charlie?"
The princess stopped and looked down at the girl. "What can I do for you, little one?"
"Aunt Charlie, is it ok if Sam and I go outside to play with my chalk?" She asked her nicely.
Charlie smiled and then nodded. "You can. Just not the front of the hotel. Why don't you go to the back by the garden or the pool?" She told her.
The hybrid nodded. "I will! Thank you, Aunt Charlie. Thank you."
The demon princess gave a small chuckled and shooed the girl off. Elena ran over to Sam and grabbed her hand. She said they were going outside to play, and the imp was then pulled along. She didn't complain but she was surprised as she started to get dragged away. Rufio barked and then ran after the two. Everyone gave a small laugh at the girl's enthusiasm.
"How do you keep up with her?" Husk asked.
"It's very hard, that is for sure." Heart answered with a small chuckle.
"Well I guess the party is over. We should probably clean up." Nifty said.
"Should someone go watch the girls?" Dr. Talon wondered as he looked back to the doorway.
"Rufio has it covered. He won't let anything happen to them. Plus, Alastor probably has his shadow watching over her too." Heart answered as she started to clean up some leftover cups.
"Well ok, as long as they are looked after." The wolf demon said and tried to push his worry aside.
With everyone's help they got the room all cleaned and Alastor used his powers to put all of her presents back at home. Charlie and Vaggie had to get back to work. Husk went back behind the bar. Everyone else went outside to hangout and check on the girls. They were busy drawing with the chalk and having fun. Rufio was running around changing a ball that Elena would throw for him now and then.
Heart and Alastor watched them for a moment and walked around the garden. As they walked Heart stopped at the one tree that was in the garden. It seemed to have definitely grown these last few years but still engraved into the side of the tree was the heart with the H and A. She smiled as she leaned into Alastor more. She looked down and looked at the purple flower that has now multiplied since it was planted. A small group of them now sat beside the tree.
"You ok, my love?" Alastor asked as his wife's silence became worrying.
Heart's ears turned to the man's voice and then her head turned to face him more. She had a smile on his face. It was calm and content. "I'm ok." She answered softly.
Alastor leaned his forehead against hers. "Are you sure?"
"Yea." She said even softer.
The deer demon kissed her on the check. "Don't go back to the past darling."
Heart just smiled. "I'm not. I'm just thinking about...now. This moment. With you. With her. I couldn't think of anything better."
Alastor's smile softened. "I couldn't either. This is perfect."
Heart leaned in to kiss his lips softly. "Why don't we head home soon? We have to still take Sam home." She said once she pulled away.
"Sounds like a good idea. Let's go get the girls collected." Alastor agreed.
The two continued their walk through the garden until they got back to where Elena was. The two collected the girls and had them say their goodbyes before headed out and back home so that Sam could collect her things. Once they got back home Sam got her things together and they headed back out to take her home. It was a school night after all, and they couldn't be staying over unfortunately.
Once they got Sam home, Elena gave her a hug goodbye before heading back inside the building. They got back home and Elena gave a yawn. She was tired from today. All the excitement and running around had run her down. She got washed and decided to head off to bed. She yawned again as Heart pulled the cover over her.
"Did you have fun today Elena?" Heart asked her as she handed her Owen.
The girl nodded. "I had a lot of fun. This was the best birthday. I want to do it again next year." She told her.
"You want to do it again next year?" Heart asked to be sure.
Again, the girl nodded. "It was fun having Sam around. I hope she is always my friend." She smiled and snuggled into the covers.
Heart just smiled at her. "I am sure she will honey. She seems to like you as a friend to." Heart pointed out.
Elena yawn. Heart knew that it was time for the girl to sleep. Alastor walked in then and went up to beside the bed.
"Your still not asleep yet?" The deer joked.
"We were just getting there, Al." Heart said with a small giggle.
Alastor leaned down to pet the girl on the head. "Happy birthday my little fawn." He leaned down to kiss her forehead. "Now get some sleep ok."
"Thank you daddy and I will." Elena said in a tired tone as she closed her eyelids a little.
Heart smiled and kissed the girl's forehead as well. "Goodnight pup." She whispered and stood up.
The girl got comfy into the bed and closed her eyes fully. A smile on her face as her parents closed the door. Another successful birthday and they couldn't be happier because of it.
Another birthday for Elena and she had fun when having a friend of her own there to enjoy it.
