Snape's POV

I opened the door to my classroom and began to address my First Year students.

"There will be no foolish wand waving or silly incantations in this class"

I turned to face the students as I continued speaking.

"As such I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion making however for those select few who possess in the few predisposition, I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses, I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death"

My eyes then landed on Potter who was not paying attention and instead was taking notes. I frowned in annoyance before continuing my lecture.

"Then again maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable it'll make you feel confident enough to not pay attention"

Ms. Granger nudged her classmate and Potter set his quill down and looked up.

"Mr. Potter our new celebrity, tell me what would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?"

Immediately Ms. Granger raised her hand. Potter shook his head and I decided to test him further.

"Where Mr. Potter would you look at if I asked you to find me a bezoar?"

"I don't know sir" the First Year replied while Ms. Granger kept her hand raised.

"And what's the difference between monkshood and wolfbane?"

"I don't known sir" Potter repeated.

"Pity clearly fame isn't everything is it Mr. Potter?"

"Clearly Hermione knows since a pity not to ask her" Potter said back. The other students chuckled and I shushed them before making my way to Potter's table.

"Put your hand down you silly girl" I told Ms. Granger and she did as I asked before I stood in front of Potter.

"For your information Potter asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the Draught of Living Dead, a bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat and it will save you from most poisons, as for monkshood and wolfbane they are the same plant which also goes by the name of aconite"

I paused.

"Well why aren't you all copying this down?"

Immediately the students began to take notes and I made my way towards my desk.

"And Gryffindors note that five points will be taken from your house for your classmates cheek"

Some of the Gryffindor students moaned in disapproval while several Slytherins chuckled.

Armonie's POV

So far the first week of school was going well for my students. However some of them got mischievous and I took a few house points from those causing trouble. After my last class I tended to the animals used for this week's lessons before making my way towards Hagrid's since I was free for the weekend.

"Hello Armonie come on in" my friend greeted.

I flashed Hagrid a smirk before entering his house. Already he had some tea ready to drink and I could use the caffeine. Fang lay his head in my lap while Hagrid handed over my tea. I noticed there were some more teacups on the table.

"Oops forgot ter mention Harry will be joining us" my friend explained.

No sooner had he spoke those words was there knocking at the door and Hagrid went to answer it. A few seconds later Harry walked in with Ron Weasley. Fang went to greet the two eleven year olds as they sat down.

Hagrid introduced me to both boys and sure enough Harry was very polite.

"How are you liking Hogwarts so far?" I asked both boys.

"Its bloody brilliant" Ron responded with enthusiasm.

"I'm enjoying myself here" Harry added. "Though I'm not sure of what to think of Professor Snape"

Knowing Severus he's giving Harry a hard time my phoenix half mumbled.

"Don't worry about Professor Snape" Hagrid stated.

Deciding to change the subject I brought up to Harry I had been friends with his mother. This seemed to cheer him up which relieved me.

"Professor Straus I hope I'm not being rude but aren't you a shifter?" Ron inquired.

This made Harry interested and I chuckled.

"Your not being rude" I reassured Ron with a dismissive wave. "I am half phoenix shifter and can take the form of a phoenix whenever I wish"

"Wicked" was Harry and Ron's answer.

"You should see Professor Straus in her phoenix form she's a beaut" Hagrid boasted and I shot the goof a playful glare.

"Are you also American? Because I hear an accent"

"Your clever Harry I'm half American, my mother is from America and my father is English, whenever school is out for the summer I go to America to visit them"

"Your lucky" Ron said.

"Not exactly Americans drive on the left side of the road instead of the right"

"Sounds terrifying" Harry joked.

I like him my phoenix half purred. He's a sweet kid

I agreed with my other half on her opinion of Harry.

Later.

I found Severus at his desk completely absorbed in some paperwork. The next thing he knew I slapped his head with a rolled up Daily Prophet I had finished reading.

"Your so damn stubborn Severus Snape" I reprimanded my best friend.

"Was that really necessary to hit me?" the black haired man demanded looking up from his paperwork.

"Was being an ass to Harry necessary?"

Harry felt comfortable enough to tell me about his experience with the Potions Master earlier.

"Potter made a smart alec remark to me in class hence why I took some points away"

Okay I could understand that but I knew Severus's dislike for Harry was more than a simple remark. However I decided to not push it and piss my friend off. I then smirked before telling the Potions Master to wrap up his paperwork and meet me in his quarters for a game of Wizards Chess.

Growing up this strategy game was one of our favorites and still was. Severus kicked my ass in our last game and I was eager to beat him. I didn't have to wait long for Severus to join me. The chess board was already set up.

"Black? I figured you'd be white since your phoenix fire is a source of light" Severus teased.

My response was smacking him on the head again. The Head of Slytherin House rubbed the top of his head where I smacked him.

"Zip it or I'll smack you once more"

Seeing I wasn't messing around Severus made the first move since he was white. I ended up beating him and the Potions Master swore before demanding a rematch.

Hehe Snape's getting payback for hitting Ron and Harry in the movies and driving on the right side of the road does sound scary. O.o
