Nod Laser drones airborne. Opening feed to Nod outpost
Informing status of Originium harvesting operations…
Nod harvesting progressing as scheduled. Originium collected via use of Tiberium harvesters, abundant for use in research for alternative resource to Tiberium. Skepticism is highly present with individuals involved in the operation. The head of this operation continues to express doubts. Continue monitoring subject Dr. Jade Liang if doubt and skepticism lingers. Doubting Kane is a punishable offence.
Switching feed to current overhead terrain via Laser Drones
"Cyborg units dispatch within the inner Originium field." I verbalized to the deployed units.
"Objective: Scout the area to reveal and expand the terrain for the harvesters to travel."
Switch to first unit
Unit, Enlightened, travels on smooth but crystal-ridden path scanning the area for possible enemy life forms and objects of interest. Instruct unit to travel further for new terrain.
"Scanning terrain for enemies… No threat detected… New coordinates acquired…Sending coordinates of the new terrain to Harvester units and Research Outpost. Unit will be awaiting orders from command." The Enlightened notified.
Switching to next dispatch unit
Unit Cyborg Reaper coldly scans the surroundings. Armed with laser on its right hand and mini Obelisk of Light on its back, unit Reaper searches for foes to test its weapon on.
"Quadri-systems normal, orders verified and all coordinates set, Reaper is traversing rough terrain."
Cyborg Reaper continues trekking the rocky crystal-like terrain in search or source of Originium. The Reaper also carves his path with its Obelisk weapons to push through the rough and rocky terrain.
"Originium Crystal pillar discovered. Other rock debris block path. Request made, unit Cyborg Reaper to destroy blockade with cold and ruthless calculation."
"Obstacle detected. Weapons primed to destroy."
Unit Reaper unleashes pure laser energy against the barriers in front of it destroying many crystal and rock formations regardless for its safety coldly confident of its results.
"Barrier removed, proceeding trekking directives." Reaper unit verbalized.
Units Cyborg Enlightened and Reaper move parallel paths.
Change feed to last dispatch cyborg unit.
Nod's finest and most elite units, the Cyborg Commando, armed with its OL-71 "Pillum" Laser hooked directly to power core march the harsh Originium fields with similar directives given by me as requested by command to its cyborg brethren.
"Cyborg commando, reporting findings…" Elite unit, Cyborg Commando scans the terrain for signs of threats and location of interest.
While cyborg units survey the Originium field, the harvesters continue harvesting operations of Originium Crystals. Required quota for the initial research fulfilled.
"Continue your directives Cyborg units. I will consult with our commander of this operation. I am now establishing video uplink to the outpost."

Dr Jade Liang and her science team are currently taking samples of the Originium for initial observation and research. All necessary protective gears and proper safety precautions have been set up to contain and prevent Originium leakage infecting Nod soldiers and scientist present.
"Dr. Jade, the Cyborg scout team has made a discovery. Please proceed to the War Room." I informed her of the news.
"I must go. Continue your duties; I must consult with our soldiers." The doctor verbalized as she leave for briefing.
War Room, Nod Harvesting Outpost
"LEGION, you have news from our scouts? How are our operations running?" She asks while uncertainty lingers on her face.
"Turn on monitor…" Doctor Jade did as she was told.
"The Cyborgs have found a cavern deep within the Originium field they are traversing. The cavern they have found has its entrance blocked. Your orders, Doctor Jade?" I said to her informally.
"Technically they are your units. They have been loaned from your division, the Marked of Kane. What do you need me for?" She retorts
"Please keep in mind Doctor Jade that they are under your command. I am only acting as your EVA for this mission." I said in response to her case
"You are a commander of your own division like all the Nod commanders. Why not co-command with me, instead of distracting me from my work for such trivial matter?" She implored to me while showing signs of frustration.
"I am commanding with you right now, Dr. Jade. These are the current directives given to me from the Prophet himself and his Right Hand man. A significant percent of me is currently researching with the Science Minister on this planet's habitat using the Tacitus. Another percent is maintenance of our entire Cyborg Division. The rest is what I am doing now, being your A.I advisor." I clarified to her.
"Goddamnit, this is not the type if co-commanding that I wanted. I need you to fully take over your cyborgs to finish this mission, without bothering me from my research. Do you understand?" She furiously responded while rustling her hair.
"I understand. Forgive me Doctor Jade. I cannot fully take control of the cyborgs. My directive does not allow me to do such thing. Should I ask the Prophet to input a new directive Doctor Jade?"
"No, don't, I get it." Doctor Jade let out an exasperated sigh. "I need to do this right and not disappoint our Prophet. I'll be honest, I'm unsure about the Crystals of this planet helping with our operations and I'm given a time table to do this task ASAP. I initially questioned it. Even despite the assurance of Tiberium still on the table, I still have my doubts." She tells me as she calms down.
"Doctor Jade, human emotions are powerful tools but do not let them cloud your judgement from accomplishing your task." I said.
Doctor Jade groaned. "Ok then, Mr advisor. What are your suggestions?" She asked while pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Command the cyborgs to scan the barrier. I will run analysis and inform you of our next course of action. Standing by…." I said to her and immediately began analysis to what my… I mean the cyborgs scan.
It didn't take long and they have given me ample information. I let the Cyborgs verbalize their findings to the good doctor.
"Obstruction… Possible signs of alien life presence detected behind the obstruction; likelihood of unit destruction, unknown. Possible crucial interest within the cave; our survival from possible onslaught, uncertain; awaiting your command to proceed Commander." The Cyborg Enlightened informed.
I look to Doctor Jade as she thinks over her options and the situation presented by the cyborgs. If the cave has hostile aliens, there is a possibility that they will be destroyed and overwhelmed by them and likely attack the harvesting operations. As I finish my analysis, she then asks me…
"Will the cyborgs be durable enough to take on whatever is inside the cave?" She asks curious yet cautious in tone.
I responded to her with, "That will be determined if we go inside and fight them head on."
She sighs and then nods at my neutral yet aggressive approach to the situation. I decided to give her my full analysis, suggestions, benefits and consequences to her possible commands.
"I have gathered sufficient data from our units and here are my suggestions and possible outcome." I said.
"Alien presence is a high possibility in this cavern. We could destroy the barrier and destroy all possible hostile alien presence within. There is a 60% chance that the small number of our cyborg units will be overwhelmed from the attacks. 30% are their survival but they will be likely been heavily damaged, 10% is destroying all the alien presence with several possible consequences."
"What consequences?"
"The loss of all 3 units, decreasing our firepower in case of an unexpected attack on our settlement. Hostile aliens are more likely to track down and destroy our harvesting operations. However, we could test our Cyborg durability, and firepower against this planet native fauna species." I informed to her in great detail.
Dr. Jade held her chin and closes her eyes going to deep thought of the first suggestion. She looks over again on my first suggestion.
"What else can we do?"
"We withdraw our scouting forces." I said bluntly.
"Hmmm?!" She verbalizes.
"No need for casualties for most, if not all of the scouting units. We gather what we currently have on our hands and inform the other commanders to help the next phase of the operation. The downside of this is delaying time needed for research on the Black Crystals and the possibility of what is inside the cavern could be depleted by the creatures inside." I said
"We already gathered sufficient amounts of the Black Crystals for our research. Our primary objective is already achieved. I'm curious on what's inside the cave, LEGION, and my duty as a scientist requires me to gather every possible material as alternative resources to our research. The cyborgs being destroyed to test their durability," Doctor Jade shook her head. "It's merely an excuse and afterthought to make me go through with it." She says
"I am merely giving my analysis on what's in front of us, Doctor Jade, metaphorically speaking. You are the commander for this operation. You will be accountable for your actions... The choice is yours and the consequences and benefits that will come from it." I informed.
I gave her my analysis. The decision and the fate of the units and the success of this operation are now in her hands. The inner debate begins
Observing body posture and behavior shows she is motioning to send them in. But her continuous thinking posture and stiffness of her body show self-control and self-reflection. On one hand, she's confident that the cyborgs will destroy what's awaiting them inside the cave. The human factor won't hinder them as they are more machine than man and know no fear. Their lasers have cut many unshielded GDI infantry and destroyed many of their tank armors and took down aircraft. But on the likelihood of losses, she's willing to accept and expected some damages taken and at least one loss. The cyborgs can be replaced or repaired back with the drawback being the repairs and redeployment will be at best slowed down due to limited Tiberium resources. Actions on planting Tiberium are still currently researched and awaiting greenlit from the Prophet himself.
The doctor, gathering these thoughts gives her orders.
"We're done here. We withdraw. No need for unnecessary losses…for now at least." Jade verbalizes, content and no regrets.
"A wise decision doctor, but you know the consequence that it will bring you for delays?" I added.
"I'll give a proper justification of my actions to the prophet and the other commanders." She said with no doubts clouding her tone.
"Duly noted doctor, I will send orders to the Cyborg scouts to return." I said.
The decision is made and I go to the video feed of my… I mean our Cyborg scouts. I then ordered the Laser Drones to scout around the area for additional intel.
Withdraw from the area and return to base for rebriefing. . I transmitted the withdrawal orders to
"Complying with orders." the cyborgs in sync, coldly reply.
The cyborg units continued marching away from the cavern with the Commando leading the way and the Reaper guarding the rear. The units live to fight another day and will come back with more of our brothers and sisters in arms. We have for now delayed gathering more valuable information for Originium research but as Dr. Jade verbalized, we achieved one major part of the operation, which are the crystals themselves. The mysteries of the cavern will be unraveled at a later time but for now, we rest on current our laurels and plan for the next phase.
Eden, Black Hand Shrine, Canaan
Nod Year: 20XX
Terran Year: XXXX
0900 Hours
The Black Hand has continuously served its purpose for Nod as its elite military organization. They still continue to maintain their powerful presence and religious influence to both the regular soldiers and the citizens of the Brotherhood. As of their stay on their new home, despite the somewhat peaceful times and with no more GDI or alien Scrin to oppress them, most of the people are uncertain and pessimistic about their future on this new planet. The Black Hand ensures and enforces to the people not to cause any form of riot, rebellion and especially speaking blasphemy against Kane.
Peter Xavier, a High Confessor and member of the Black Hand joins the gathering with his brothers and sisters called upon by their current leader, Pontifex Lucius. He sees the Pontiff come out of the tower from the Black Hand's Temple. He focuses his sights on him and arranges himself as he was going to speak to the crowd.
"Good welcome, my brothers and sisters." Pontifex Lucius greeted them with a somber yet joyful tone.
Pontifex Benedict Lucius is the Black Hand's current leader and Nod's highest leader of religious affairs. He is also called, "The Mouth of Kane" as he preaches the good news and wisdom of the Prophet to the Nod masses on par with Kane for during special occasions. This is the first time he'll speak to them post-Ascension in the new world they now reside on.
The Pontifex looks upon everyone present, as they religiously genuflect to him after his greeting as if commanded too. He then continues to speak to them.
"Thank you all for gathering at the temple. For those not present and continuing their duties, hear my voice and see my presence to the speakers and monitors provided for our citizens." He speaks as he points with one hand, the camera drone televising live his speech.
"As we have ascended to the new world, our new home, peace at long last from the oppressors that is GDI." He puts emphasis on the last few sentences.
He hears the crowd cheer for what he said and what they wanted to hear. It was the only way to get the crowd lively as the morale of Nod's entire denizens has been progressively dwindling. If anything, hearing that GDI will no longer be a thorn on their side is comforting. He then waits for the cheers to subside before saying his next lines.
"We have been blessed and we have been rewarded for all the wars that we have waged against them for almost a century. Our Ascension to the stars and our descent to the Promised Land were all thanks to our Prophet's guidance." He pauses before he shouts to the crowd.
"IN THE NAME OF KANE", He shouts
"KANE LIVES IN DEATH", the crowd fanatically answers.
While the crowd cheers and the Pontiff continues his speech, amidst it stood Peter Xavier, casually walking around to find a suitable view and place to stand. He crosses his arms, content and relaxed while he listens to his leader's speech.
"The more things change, the more it's stays the same. GDI may be gone and yet the threat of the Brotherhood…" He thought to himself but then paused as someone beside him talked.
"It's a good day to be alive." One of his comrades said nearby.
"Indeed brother! Always give thanks to Kane, your ancestors and your brothers for they have been the fire that guided your path to Ascension. Peter answers him with praise
"Many years we have been in battle and fighting all our adversaries in the name of Kane. I am ready to fight whatever aliens are on this planet." His comrade said with excitement.
"Fighting the inhabitants of this planet, Nod will always ensure victory all through. But why fight when we can have dialogue and diplomacy? The word of Nod can help convert this planet's inhabitants to our side, especially those who have been oppressed by their world or perhaps country's fascist and authoritarian leaders." Peter retorts.
"We have already sent many of our brothers to distant lands to not only know our enemy, but also preach the word of Nod to possible allies within enemy lines. I even bless one of them before leaving for the journey." He added
"From what I've heard, Brother Karrion is among them." Curiously his brother said.
"Yes brother, one of our finest and hero of Nod walks with our brothers to the valley of the shadow of death. Come what those who dare may oppose him, for he fears no enemy; for Kane is with him; his vision and his purpose comfort him and his brothers." Peter said
"That's easy for you to say High Confessor." A new aggressive voice within the crowd catches Peter's attention
Peter decides to end his conversation with his fellow Black Hand brother and tells him to leave to avoid getting caught in between a possible confrontation. Calm, alert, and annoyed Peter waits for this person to approach him as if he was expecting him.
The crowd noticing the man who is approaching Peter quietly dispersed but stay within distance of the two people.
"It seems I have postponed your idle chatter with your fellow brother and cause a bit of a ruckus. Forgive my… sudden encounter and rudeness." The person confronting Peter said in a condescending tone.
"Simon Damocles, the Pontifex's speech may drown the noise will make, but I ask you, what are you doing here?" He said to him with an annoyed tone.
"Is that how you greet your fellow brother? Are we not equal to our rank and duties?" Simon says to Peter mockingly.
"I expect you being with the Pontiff up there or doing special missions assigned from him considering how he favors you ever since our Ascension." Peter said as if not wanting anything involved with him.
Peter never expected Simon to be among the crowd. He has never liked Simon ever since the Pontiff welcomed him back to Nod along with most of what's left of Gideon's heretic army. He is very vocal on his opinion against accepting him back to the fold. Kane may have agreed to Peter's point but the Pontiff decided controversially and surprisingly with Kane's blessing to welcome them back and even have them retain the ranks they had since serving Gideon with questionable justifications.
As Simon is in his presence during a ceremonious speech of their Pontiff, he decides to play along with his bragging while not looking weak and keeping his composure.
"True that we are equals in our ranks and duties. While you continue being the Pontiff's errand boy, enforcing most of Nod's rules and flexing your Inquisition's strength, I meanwhile go out and interact with our people and assuring them of their fate. I have also been continuing my talks with Kane's Right Hand man in trying to mend relationships between The Black Hand, him and most especially Kane." Peter said
"Tch, why go out of your way talking with Slavik. He hates us, but as long as we prove our worth to him with all our strength and skills in battle, he is content. It's admirable you keep brownnosing to him. I'm also impressed with ways you reassure to keep the people's faith firm without bloodshed especially when they present doubt. Still, it's better to be aggressive and punishing when they still won't listen, especially since this is Kane's will." Simon said
"Aggression is not always the answer Simon. I don't want to lose and kill many of our brothers and sisters, especially in this crucial time." Peter bluntly replied.
"Thanks to you Slavik's view of the Black Hand is not in a positive light. By you, I mean your heretic leader Gideon. You are one of his remaining commanders and a high position at that." He added.
"I took the opportunity and ran with it because of what Nod is doing. I talked to you about it and even offered and persuaded numerous times to join us. The fact Kane is allying with GDI, our mortal enemy is heresy of the highest order. He knows that. Nod knows it too. We let it happened still and Gideon was rightful for his actions even with the risk of death for betrayal." Simon said furiously without raising his voice.
"It wasn't that simple Simon. All that was taught to all of us is that Kane always has a reason and plan for what he is doing, no matter how controversial and questionable. Remember the Scrin Invasion, "The Visitors" as Kane calls them?" Peter argued.
"That's different back then. From the stories of the veterans, Kane didn't ally with the aliens; he was interested taking one of their towers called Thresholds. He let them fight GDI to the death until whomever and whatever is left of them, our forces wiped out the stragglers as the real victor takes the spoils of war." Simon factually said
"I didn't want to believe this alliance at first, especially since Tiberium has ravaged their precious Blue Zones and it was all a bluff to give them false hope to rip away as we purge whatever is left of their forces. Yet the more it went on as he gave them more help than we expected, the more I thought about, the more it made me question what we were fighting for if the end goal was to pledge an alliance with GDI. Gideon was not wrong to question it and call him out of this heresy." Simon countered
"Keeping the Brotherhood united because of the alliance wasn't easy and it only worsened after your heretic leader's damn insurrection. I and the rest of the Nod loyalist Black Hand had to clean up the mess Gideon made. I had to kill a lot our brothers on his side in the name of Kane all because YOU were too radical that you couldn't see the big picture." Peter said
"Radical, ME, you think you had it bad, all we wanted was not to ally ourselves with the enemy. I could also argue why not GDI surrender to us as they weakened thanks to Tiberium." Simon argued.
"GDI is a formidable foe and they will not surrender to us easily and will fight to the bitter end." Peter counter-argued
"It was ingrained to us GDI is the enemy that needed to be destroyed. We were ready to die for what we truly believe was Nod's righteous duty. We were already winning as Tiberium began to encroach upon them. If only we waited, even for a bit, we could have won, and "Brother against Brother" would have not happened and they all could have lived, not on this planet, but on what could have been a Tiberium filled Earth, the end stage of our Divination." Simon said
"We were all denied that grand opportunity, and our centuries of hard work became moot as Kane decided, in his alliance to take all the Tiberium out of the land. It only emboldened us to fight harder and stop his heretical actions. That's a bigger picture you should have seen." Simon bluntly countered.
Peter didn't respond immediately as Simon made a good point. He wasn't ready to give up and was about to make a counter argument until Black Hand guards made their way in to intervene. Two guards then respectively went to them to de-escalate the situation.
"Hey, you're disrupting this ceremony. Settle your damn beef later." The leading guard called them out without raising his voice much.
He then put them in order by saying, "We are in the presence of the Pontifex. Conduct yourselves accordingly, especially you Simon." He pointed to Simon accusingly.
"Peter, you too, let's keep the peace." He then pointed to Peter and said in a de-escalating tone.
The two rivals, from the guard's order then calmly begin to separate from each other with the two guards respectively escorting them away.
Peter then said this to Simon before backing away, "We're not done Simon, let's finish this later."
Simon retorted, "I'll be waiting, you narrow minded fool."
While Peter and Simon go their separate ways, they both then continued listening to the Pontiff's speech without interruption. His speech calmed them from their heated argument as the Pontiff was giving inspirational stories and parables to help revitalize the citizens' morale.
The Pontiff was already nearing the end of his talk as they observe his posture showing signs of satisfaction. He then makes his next major announcement which would not only catch the two rivals by surprise, but shake the foundation of the Black Hand.
"As I end this sermon to all of you, I would again like to thank you all for coming here and all the hard work and support you have down not just for me, but for our brothers, sisters, and most especially our dear leader and Prophet Kane." The Pontiff says and the crowd cheering as their moral rose from his inspiring speech.
The Pontiff pauses before saying his last words. He looks to the large crowd in front him waiting for him to finish the sermon and eager for his closing remarks. He sighs again, feeling sad but content.
"I truly am thankful. For all the wondrous gifts we have received and claimed. On this rock, on this land, many of our temples have been built and eventually, all our homes and infrastructures will be completed as we live our new lives here and build upon our next generation of Nod Canaanites who will one day inherit not just this land, but the entirety of this planet." Pontiff added solemnly.
"As much as I want to end this in a good note, I have to inform, sadly that with a heavy heart I…announce my resignation and retirement as Pontiff and leader of the Black Hand." Pontiff gravely said to the audience…
"What?" Simon and Peter said in unison while they begin processing what has transpired today.
The audiences meanwhile were in disbelief with the Pontiff's announcement. The crowd then demanded answers and questioning what is going on. Soldiers and religious bodyguards then stepped in to control the audiences' hysteria of the ongoing events.
"I have already done enough, made numerous achievements and successes both in battle and internal affairs. My aging body and tired mind has already exhausted all means to achieve Nod's goals. I will then finally rest as the sun rises to a new era." The Pontiff's last few sentences cut very deep to the heart of the audiences.
The crowd was shocked and saddened by the turn of events. Most of them where crying and while others began chanting as he went inside the temple.
"PLEASE DON'T GO, PLEASE DON'T GO." They chanted with plea and tears in on their eyes.
As the Pontiff goes back inside the Temple, Simon and Peter then rushed inside to seek answers for his sudden retirement. They go through the now demoralized and saddened crowd who are desperate for answers for what transpired currently and uncertain about their future on this planet.
Ursus
Terran Year: XXXX
0900 Hours
Father is coming home from his recent battle. The recent front page of the newspaper tells of the Ursus soldiers coming home victorious with no casualties. Every day I worry for him as he leaves for every military tour. He may have lived for a hundred years, he may be a war veteran from his old country of Kazdel, he may be stronger and resilient than the average Ursus soldier, but in the end, he's still a mortal man.
He has brought many victories for our country as a soldier and veteran of many battles, both past and present. From the stories he has told me when I was young, his skills with his spear and shield both slain many of his enemies and defended him valiantly whatever Ursus' enemies have thrown at him. His presence and strength brought fear and terror to his foes. His awe-inspiring-voice boosted his men's morale as he rallies them with his inspiring speeches and battle cries. These feats made him a hero to the people and earned him the name, "Patriot" for his valiant bravery and service to the Ursus Empire. To this day, he continues going to many battles in the name of the Empire.
All these achievements, the Empire provided for us as a reward. A home big enough for our family to live especially for a Sarkaz-Wendigo was built and funded by them. Father was financially supported as the standard for every soldier of the Empire. I was given scholarships enrolling me to any of Ursus' finest universities of my choosing. Currently, I'm a scholar studying about the Wendigo to know more about origins and in hopes to bring me closer to father despite, our friction we are currently having.
"Gro, it's me. He's here!" I hear a call outside my home. I look outside the bright and white morning of our snowy Ursuian neighborhood. It was Hector, my best friend calling to me. I tidy myself before going down the door.
He continues knocking the door and calling me. "Gro, your father is coming, and he will be home soon."
I open the door to see Hector but was overwhelmed hearing the news that father coming to the house soon.
"Hey, I just met him a while ago when my pops and I were talking a stroll. He was looking and walking around the place with his men. They wanted walk with him for sightseeing before going to their homes. He saw us, ask a bit how we're doing and all, and he told me to tell you he's coming home soon."
Father still remembers Hector. All those poetries he recited and made amused father he even requested to make some for his men to hear when leaves for a tour.
"I can understand being overwhelmed Gro. He's a hero of this country. He helped bring many victories and saved many soldiers. Pops wouldn't be home if not for him. Now he's retired and compensated for his duties to the empire." Hector said with genuine assurance.
"Perhaps I am overwhelmed. I'm nervous to be honest. The country is going in turbulent times. Father and I have heated debates about what our leaders are doing for the empire." I said with solemn tone.
"Perhaps it would be different now. The war is nearly over. Hopefully the empire rids of those decrees after we win." My friend said in a worried tone
"I hope you're right. A lot of our countrymen are suffering especially those who are infected while the nobles and the leaders watch us from their ivory towers." I said angrily but calming down.
"Let's forget about that for now. Let's prepare for your father's return. I'm sure you have supplies to prepare for a meal for him?" Hector said with positive enthusiasm.
"Sure my friend, let's make preparation." I said
As we prepare for my father's arrival, I reflected on how our relationship became what it is currently.
Growing up to adulthood and father continuing his duties, our country has decreed controversial policies with claims that it will help benefit it's people and carry the country through its hard times. Aside from the tours of battles he was participating, he paraded with many political figures and even the Emperor himself giving inspiring speeches for the people to boost their morale and faith to the empire. Father changed along with it as time went on and he became more of a soldier than a father to me.
When he does come home, it as if the war and his duties are still with him. When I first asked him his thoughts of the controversial decrees the empire made, he quotes what the leader of our country says.
"For the sake of our country and her people, these decrees will help carry us during these turbulent times." He quoted the emperor
I asked again what his real thoughts are in his own words. He sighed. It's as if he was offended that I ask that question twice.
"Son, I understand your curiosity as you are still young. I'll say my piece in a way that you'll understand. I support what the emperor decrees and we must do so in the name of our country's prosperity." He said angrily as if he was commanding me and slamming his fist on the table, nearly breaking it.
I was taken aback. Did I…offend him? I just wanted to know his true thoughts about this…
"I'm sorry…son." Knowing his actions, he apologized to me genuinely.
"No, maybe I was at fault father." I replied to him with respect.
"You're still young Gro. Maybe in a few years, you'll understand. Learn a lot in your studies and what you see in our country. Then when you're ready, give me your answer." He instructed me
"I shouldn't have raised my voice. Forgive me Helen!" Father solemnly added
I stop reflecting a bit. Hector then approached me and asks if I'm ok.
I answered him, "I'm good. It's just memories coming up in my thoughts."
"I'll stay with you when he comes. You're not alone." Hector said genuinely and reassured me.
Father and I may not agree with most of our own opinions, but I still love him nonetheless and I still hope that he sees what Ursus is negatively going through and the leader's ill intentions for those infected and those who go against their decrees.

I remember again, during my last days in my old home country of Sarkaz, I told Queen Theresa my intentions and my reasons leaving everything behind. The war, the senseless killings our brothers and sisters clashing, and her warmongering reign as its leader was all I wholeheartedly said to her.
"May this country one day find peace and may you one day see through the errors of your reign." I said to her as my last words in Kazdel. Despite my wholehearted anger and reasons, she let me go without resistance and guaranteed me safe passage without bloodshed.
The high ranking Sarkaz present with her were furious for my act as it was a betrayal to my Queen and the country I serve. They all pointed their fingers at me, shamed me and called me a traitor. One of them loudly proclaims the prophecy that has been echoed in our history.
"The Last Wendigo will be slain by the hands of the Lord of Fiends." The Sarkaz proclaims to me as a final insult and ultimatum to me as I leave my home looking for solace beyond its borders.
"Why must I be reminded of that day? Why remember that damn prophecy?" I ask myself that question over and over. That was a long time ago, yet it feels like yesterday.
I focus my thoughts now to me going hone and reuniting with my son. This… tour has been my longest… compared to my previous ones. Our foes….fought more valiantly and prolonged our stay….in the battlefield.
"Gro, my son that I have not seen for the longest time, I'm coming home."
Hopefully this could be the last but it seems fate…. likes to toy with me. Fate would thrust me to another prolonged war hoping I would die in battle yet I always defy it for I have fought against it all my life after leaving Sarkaz. Perhaps she, the Queen of Sarkaz, in acceptance of my self-exile would be the death of me fulfilling it and the chaos she or her future successor will bring to this world.
I… would rather not ponder, for I have found solace despite fighting what fate has set for me.
I walk along the city streets where my home resides. I see many of my fellow Ursus citizens passing by me and mostly cheering and waving hello to me. The familiar faces and traits I've become accustomed too since my arrival and stay here, has been a testament of my services and duty for this country.
"The hero of Ursus, he continues to bring needed victory for us. Thank you for your service; you are a patriot to the great Empire.
I do the same and wave back at them, yet it feels like I'm not really there. It's as if I'm regressing back to my olden days in Sarkaz. Perhaps in going home now seeing my son will help purge that hollow feeling from my body.
I arrived to my destination after a continuous walk in the town of my home. A lot has changed after leaving for every battle and despite many victories. The houses have become more dilapidated, there are many stores that have closed but only a handful of high standard stores stay open for business. The changes that my country is going through, is not getting better.
I knock on the door, hoping my son will answer it.
"He's here Gro. Finish preparing; for we don't want to look unkempt in front of your father and hero of Ursus."
Hector, the poet at my house and helping my son? When was the last time I heard his poems? I'm very proud of him for being my son's best friend.
"Would you like me to help with your work there?" I loudly asked eager to see them and join them in their menial task.
"Mr. Patriot, please bear with us for a moment. We are almost done with our preparations and are now cleaning ourselves to look prim and proper."
"Take your time children. I am a patient and understanding man. I assume my son is taken cared off while I was away. I have full trust in you Hector."
"Thank you sir Patriot, we're all set."
"Then I shall enter without haste."
Upon entering the house, I'm greeted with a familiar and now clean setting of our living room. From the sofa and chairs no longer torn and dusty and the walls and decorations on them not looking dilapidated and weathered. I also see our viewing device still there albeit not much used. We would watch most of Ursus entertainment and news to past the time. I question if some of our favorite shows are still active.
I then now see one of two people of the house properly dressed. It was Hector, who I now stand in front of. He has grown up and now currently is in the same university as my son. He was frozen as if he didn't know how to react to my presence. But then quickly assessing what's happening he then straightens himself and saluted me.
"Welcome home sir Patriot of Ursus. It is an honor to see you." Hector said jovially.
"At ease boy, no need for formalities now for I am a citizen and father as of returning home. Now then, is my son ready to meet me Hector?"
"I'll see if he is ready to come out. Take a seat first and rest sir." He said making sure I feel comfortable
As I sat down and waited for my son to come out, I reflected upon many memories of all the times I arrived home after many battles for the empire. Looking back at them, Helen, my late wife is always the one I expected to see every time I return home especially from many battles. Ever since her death, it is now my son who would see me return just like his mother before. Sometimes I either see him home or at the school dormitory after every tour duty. I'm proud of him as he has grown as the years moved forward and all the hard work he did during his years in school. It pains me that I have caused a rift in our relationship all due to a misunderstanding of our beliefs for our country's future. Perhaps with my recent yet longest tour of duty, what happened back then would be just a bad memory. With my new reflections and insights from my last tour and my son's successful growth and education, maybe we will have a better understanding with each other. Perhaps he'll give me an answer to what I asked him before I left for my longest tour….with a sour note.
Oh Helen, forgive me and give me strength to mend my relationship with our son Gro.
"Sir, I bring to you your son and my best friend Gro."
"Father…"
My son, it's all I can say in my mind. But in reality, I was frozen seeing him. What am I doing, he's my son. Say something Burdokrass! One day you may not see him again. You could die anytime as foretold by the Demon Queen.
"My son, it's been many years. I have come home for you."
"Perhaps, yet it's been a long painful wait."
I wanted to say more words to him. But my body moved towards him compelling it to embrace him like all fathers do when they see their loved ones after many years of absence from the household. But my son hesitated at first. Perhaps that memory still haunts him. It took some time and reflections before finally embracing me.
"I'm glad….your still alive. There are so many things to tell you. But, I'm honestly scared. I'm scared that maybe the war and what's still happening to our country has changed you."
He was not wrong to say that to me. But, for our sake I told him this.
"No, son, I am still myself. What matters is I am here now with you. I pray this moment continues onward, for I may be called again to battle. I pray to fates and those above us to let me have this moment last forever."
It's all I can say to him in this moment. It feels longer despite the conversation being short. But that's ok because every moment with my family, my son is all I need.
I beg you; don't take this all away from me.

"Good welcome, brothers and sisters of Ursus, we are monks from the far southern lands. We have come to bring to you our message and teachings from our Prophet Kane."
This is a crucial moment I prepared for. I was hesitant, shaken and, I hate to say this as a Nod Soldier, doubtful of myself. It is thanks to Brother Karrion that the black cloud above me is slowly dissipating.
"Be not afraid to hear from us. We only come here to spread our faith and give hope to those who need it most.'
I took the first and drastic step in helping myself and my brothers. I volunteered to help speak of Kane's messages. It would have been easy if Brother Karrion was picked for this task but he already has his role as a mercenary and would cause suspension from the Ursus guards. Also, it is the duty and inherent talent of a Nod soldier to adapt swiftly in an unknown environment especially a hostile environment within the enemy's watchful eyes and always help but never burden you brothers and sisters.
"Take a gander to us for those curious about our message. If you stay a little longer, perhaps heed our words for they may help you in your life and be reborn anew."
While speaking to the few but curious citizens, my other fellow brother, Brother Gilbert, is giving out pamphlets containing basic but important details for the common folk of this country to understand. The pamphlets were his brainchild. He helped simplify most of the details of our backstory, mantra and tenets. He also translated them to the language of this country which is surprisingly similar to the Russian language.
"Brother Gilbert, continue offering to the people our pamphlets so they can be guided accordingly as I talk about the message our Prophet and our Brotherhood." I said
"Without haste and with care my brother. Gather around brothers and sisters and take these pamphlets." Gilbert spoke with conviction.
He gives the pamphlets to those hesitant, doubtful but curious about our message. Slowly, many Ursus citizens come close to us and form a small crowd. Within the crowd, I see many lower class citizens looking to us as if to find any purpose in their lives. I noticed some of them were hooded as if to conceal themselves from the public. A close looks at them; I can see the Black Crystals and dark discoloration from their skin fester their bodies. Interesting, these are the ones Kane is looking for.
"I am pleased to welcome all of you present to our sermon. It is an honor to introduce myself and my brothers to all of you citizens of Ursus. I am Brother Jederick and this man at my side is Brother Gilbert."
When it comes to interacting with civilians, it's always important to establish rapport. The Brotherhood has focused most of those efforts to war torn, poor and corrupt countries where oppression and tyranny are rampant. The developing countries are very tricky to establish rapport thanks to their propaganda to their masses. Of course, we still manage to gain a foothold of influence within them. This country, perhaps this world is no different. The Brotherhood will bring the oppressed to salvation.
"The strong man resting over there is our guardian, mercenary and new devotee, Brother Karrion. He defended us during our travel to this country against bandits. We didn't have anything of value to return the favor but in his mercy and kindness, he decided to travel with us here to find work and teach us about our message and beliefs. Lastly, but she is currently absent to do errands for us, Sister Scarlett. She is very devoted as she is beautiful and has volunteered many times to help with our errands."
These stories I tell are fabrications. Karrion is the War Priest hero of the Brotherhood and leader of this group. Sister Scarlett or better known as Lady Scarlett is our Nod Shadow Operative and graduate of Oxanna Kristos' school of thought.
"Together, we are the monks of the Brotherhood of Nod."
Meanwhile….
1300 Hours
It's been a while since I walked around the park. Long tours of duty with various skirmishes at the border can make a normal citizen be blessed not constantly fighting and seeing death in the battlefield. It's a huge relief that this… long break given to us soldiers gives me more time to rest my body and heal my mind before the next tour, hoping it would be the last.
This break also helps me see more of what changes have been done to this country while I was gone in battle. Unfortunately, from what our leaders proposed and the conditions that befall our nation, it was only going for the worst. The average common folk of Ursus I see in front of me, going on with their lives, blissful and content are unaware the empire is ill, as it has been declining for years and those who are leading don't have the peoples interest especially the nobles
While reflecting on the state of our nation, I see a lot of my fellow countrymen walking by and going on with their lives. I see children playing at the playgrounds and snow, I see young couples finding love, *sigh*, I yearn for these moments of leisure, but I must serve my Empire and protect its people.
I was fortunate to have a stable living and insurance in the army despite not being an Ursunian. I am a citizen and soldier of this country regardless. If you are born here or decide to live here for life, you are a citizen. I was one of many non-Ursunian who serves the military. I did all my duties professionally and helped win many battles against the Empires enemies. Bloody, yet necessary, all that are merely a fraction of what the hero of Ursus has done and not only he is a non-Ursunian citizen and soldier, but he's the last of his feared kind. It would be a privilege to fight alongside him. Perhaps even have dialogue with him outside of the battlefield.
Hehe, why am I now eager to go back to the battlefield just to find him?
I felt myself smiling thinking about that. I guess it's one way to cope and forget the negatives that are happening around me.
While I was lost in thought, I kept overhearing about a gathering of some sorts within the park.
"There's this religious group that just showed up in the park today." One bystander said.
"The Laterano folk; are they spreading their faith as usual?" His companion ask
"I don't think its Laterano or any of the religions we have known so far. They just showed up one day at the gates then settled somewhere within our land and now preaching." The bystander replied.
"A new religious group in our city seems odd, but I'm curious what they preaching. Perhaps it could probably help boost our spiritual morale or something. Everything happening now hasn't been improving." The companion sadly said.
"You're not the only who would say that. Perhaps seeing this new group could be interesting in our dull lives. C'mon, let's go to the sermon. A little spiritual motivation could help us in this time of uncertain turmoil"
A sermon in the park by a mysterious religion is occurring? I heard about the rumors about these same mysterious people coming in with the Hero of Ursus' blessings. Perhaps the mystery is what convinced him to go inside or maybe it's because of his generosity. Curious at what wisdom and teachings they'll preach to the citizens. I'll take a gander and hear their message. A little religion wouldn't hurt to hear.
My name is Hellagur, Veteran of the Tenth Urcha War.
I pray for peace and the wars to end. I hope for Ursus to be prosperous again and to abolish its authoritarian decrees. I fear for the people, for they may be lead to their fall.
Authors Notes:
I'm back and I'm not done with this story. Forgive the long delays fellow Commanders and/or Doktahs. I have been doing this at my own pace these last few months.
I consulted the author, who inspired me and others to make this fic, for beta reading, editing and improvement. I had to cut and move some parts of the story to the next chapter to help fit with the theme and title and not make it too long and dragging. I also thank him for suggesting some reading materials and guides to help improve on my writing.
With lots of frustrations and writer's block, I had to look for inspirations to help in making this chapter. Playing Arknights, CnC Remastered, watching No Strings PD and Jethild CnC videos, Arknights Lore vids and even out of the box stuff like Halo, these helped in making this chapter.
With this, I'll take a moment of brief respite and start writing the next chapter when I'm ready and when I do, it'll be at my own pace as usual.
So review, criticize and give your thoughts and ideas.
Thank you for your patience.
