It was a bright a sunny morning at Cait Shelter not much noise was heard as most of the guild had already left for the day to the nearby town. Outside the guild hall however the youngest members of the guild had remained and were practicing their magic.
Gusts of wind and blast of moon light could be see going back and forth as the two young dragon slayers sparred. Soon however their match came to an end as they collapsed on the floor panting.
"You're getting good Wendy." Shin said between gasps for air as he sat on the ground, sweat sliding down his face as he clothes were quite soaked in it. Across from him his blue haired companion was not in much better state her clothes were also soaked in sweat, though she was obivously more tired then he was.
"Thanks Shin." She said as she tried to catch her breath, also using this time to regain her strength and stamina by eating some air.
Before either of them could speak up clapping could be heard from the gun hall entrance. The two of them glanced over to see Roubaul standing there watching the two of them. "Good job, you two should be quite proud for coming a long way since you got here." He said as he made his way over to them and handed them both a cup of water.
They both gave a quick word of thanks before gulping down the cool drink. had finished Roubaul took the cups back. "If you have the energy left, I might have a mission for you two today if you are interested." He said.
The two of them perked up and ran over to him with big smiles on their faces as they looked up at him excitedly. Roubaul chucked at their reaction and smiled. "Get a bit of rest first you two, while it is not a big mission it might take a lot out of you if you are not prepared." He said as he turned around and made his way back into the guild hall, the two very excited Dragon slayers followed closely behind him.
About an hour and a half later two cleaned up and excited Dragon slayers were standing before their guildmaster. Roubaul looked at the two of them and smiled. "Today will be your first office mission for the guild." He said in a very official tone of voice. "You will travel with me into the forest where we will gather some herbs for the kitchen staff." He explained.
The two seemed to initially defeat at the simple foraging quest, Wendy especially seemed quite nervous about the whole thing. "Umm i-isn't that dangerous?" She asked as she played with her fingers.
"It can be, that is why I will be coming with you, not only to point out what to gather but to protect you if you get in trouble." He explained as he addressed her concerns.
She nodded back at him but still seemed quite nervous about the mission. Roubaul opened his mouth to speak but Shin beat him to it. "We got this Wendy, we have been working really hard the last few days, we can handle a few animals in the forest." He said as he put a hand gently on her shoulder.
Wendy looked at him and her brown eyes met his emerald ones and there was silence for a brief moment before she nodded. "Y-ya your right we can do this, and Master Roubaul will be with us." She said as she seemed to relax.
Roubaul watched this and smiled. "Well then, let's be on our way, we have a lot to do and we're burning daylight." He said as he made his way to the door, his two young charges followed close behind him.
The trio made their way down the road to the point Shin had originally come out of and they entered the forest.
As they walked through the woods Roubaul begin to describe the different plants they would be gathering. "First we should gather some of the herbs the kitchen uses as spices for the meals, after that we will go deeper into the forest to get some medical plants." He explained as he knelt down and picked up a small plant and showed it to his two charges. "This is one of the herbs I need you two to gather." He said as before putting it in one of their bags. "There should be more around here if you look carefully."
Shin and Wendy nodded and after taking a close look at the plant he gave them they spread out checking out other trees and brushes. "I found some!" Wendy called out after a minute or two of searching. She ran over to Roubaul and showed him the plant for confirmation.
Roubaul took a quick look at the plant and smiled at her. "Very good my dear, you found the correct herb." He said with a smile. Wendy returned his smile and put the plant in her pack before continuing her search.
It wasn't too long before Shin also came back with the same plant and before they knew it they had found enough to move onto their next target.
As they walked deeper into the woods the two Dragonslayers started to sniff the air. Roubaul took notice of this but did not say anything as they neared their destination. Once they arrived the two ran ahead and looked at a small patch of leaves with some multi-colored flowers intermixed. "Hey master this plant smells really nice. Can we take it too?" "Shin asked eagerly and Wendy nodded energetically in agreement.
Roubaul walked over to them and looked down at the plant and a big smile grew on his face. "Well it happens to be exactly what we are looking for so of course we will be taking it,'' he said and the two kids cheered in excitement.
The gathering of the medical herb went by quickly with the help of the two's sense of smell attracting them to the flowers of the plant and soon their bags were full.
"Good, that should be plenty for now." Roubaul said with a smile as he looked through the contents of their bags. "We should head back before the sun gets down, we don't want to get lost in these woods." The two nodded in agreement and quickly followed their Guildmaster back the way they came through the dense forest.
Before long they had returned to the guild, Roubaul took the pouches full of herbs from them but left them each a flower since they seemed to enjoy the scent of it. Soon their guild mates returned and the two happily informed them all about their first mission for the guild and received congratulations from their comrades.
Several weeks later
Shin stared up at the night sky, his bright emerald eyes watching the moon as it glowed brightly in the cloudless night.
It had been about a month since their first mission for the guild and they had gotten into a rhythm of training and missions. On a personal note he could honestly say he loved it here. While he was used to living along with his mom in the forest everyone in the guild was so friendly, Wendy most of all. He spent most of his time with her training together. She might not be able to use her Roar at a reasonable time yet but she was definitely on her way and her healing skills were getting better and better.
As for himself his own attacks were starting to slowly get stronger as his Claw and Talon attacks were doing more damage then before as was his wing attack. But both of them were stuck with what they already knew since they had no Dragon to train them.
He looked at the ground and shivered slightly despite the warm night air and the moon light shining down on him. "It still does not feel the same." He muttered before he turned around and walked back inside the guild hall. All the candles were unlight and the hall was silent as everyone had already gone to sleep. He made his way back to the bunk room and his and Wendy's bed.
He slowed his walk as he entered the room so as not to wake her and crept over to the bed. Wendy was already deep asleep from what he could tell and he quietly crawled into bed next to her, closing his eyes as his exhaustion started to finally take over.
The next morning the light of the sun stirred him awake. As he tried to get up he felt something hold onto him, and a quick sniff of the air told him who it was. "Mmm Wendy...are you up?" He muttered as he opened his eyes and glanced a bit down. She had snuggled up against him just as she had every morning she had gotten her was Wendy her eyes still closed and her breath still rhythmic indicating that she was still asleep.
Shin sighed as she slowly wiggled free of her arms and got out of bed he then hurriedly got dressed, in case Wendy woke up, and made his way out of the room back into the guild hall.
As he walked into the hall he was greeted with the sight of the rest of the small guild going about their morning, serving or eating breakfast before going out on a mission. After he looked around for a few moments he found an empty table and took a seat as he waited for Wendy to get up.
A few of his guild mates greeted him as they passed by and he returned the greeting. After a while Wendy exited the guild dorm and made her way over to his table. "Morning Shin." She muttered as she rubbed her half opened eyes.
Shin smiled at her. "Morning Wendy did you sleep wel- " whatever he was about to say was cut off as his eyes widened and he turned his head to the doorway. Standing there was a figure in a clock that covered that whole body and a hood up that covered their face. But what really shocked him was her scent.
Wendy looked between him and the Stranger confused. "Shin? Are you ok?" She asked worriedly as she stood up and walked over to him and gently shook his shoulder.
After a few moments one of their guildmates walks up to the Stranger. "Excuse me but can we help you?" He asked.
The person glanced at him and proceeded to ignore him and walk into the room directly towards Shin and Wendy. Other members of the guild stand up and start to move towards this intruder when a voice calls out to them. "Do not interfere." Roubaul called out as he watched this person with interest.
The cloaked figure made it to the table and Wendy put herself between her and the frozen Shin. "I will not let you hurt my friend!" She yelled as she started to charge up her Dragon roar, taking a deep breath as she readied herself.
The figure quickly dashed forward putting a hand over her mouth as her hood came down revealing a woman with porcelain white skin, long lavender hair that slid down her back. Her eye color seemed to match her hair. "Careful, you could hurt your guildmates if you roar like that in here." She whispered to Wendy causing her eyes to widen and she glanced behind the Stranger taking note of just how many of her guild mates were standing behind this woman.
"Now if you would be so kind as to step aside." She said in a gentle voice that kinda reminded Wendy of how her mother would talk to her.
She nodded and the woman removed her hand from Wendy's mouth. Wendy stepped to the side but kept her eyes on the woman as she approached Shin. The Stranger knelt right beside him, looking him directly in the eyes, this continued for a few moments as Shin seemed to try and speak but could not form words but the silence came to an end when the woman hugged him. "I missed you my Little Moon." She said with a smile as she hugged him tightly.
Finally Shin's voice returned to him and he responded with four simple words. "I missed you too, mom."
