Story Start!
"Blond hair, blue eyes... very short... apartment with my old plants... expired milk that needs to be thrown out... and a Kakashi punching bag that was recently used..."
Yep.
Somehow, it had happened, and it didn't seem to be a dream either. He was Naruto Uzumaki, and he did not know how it happened. He had lived a great life where he became Hokage and had a family, saved the world countless times, befriended the Tailed Beasts, defeated several alien gods, and done more stuff in his life than so many could ever lay claim to.
He was in his 30s.
In the body he had when he was 12.
During the days in which he had been 12 as well, Naruto looked at himself in the mirror and he saw his body was back to the way it used to be, and he had already looked at the calender and saw it was not long after he had graduated from the academy. His headband was freshly polished, and his old tracksuit was in good condition, having no experienced the many battles he had fought in it beforehand.
*SLAP*
"OW... not a dream either... this is me from when I was a Genin... back during the days when I was a Genin..." Naruto looked at himself in the mirror even more. "... Did I just dream of myself becoming..."
Was his adult life just a vivid dream?
Naruto raised his hand up in front of him, and he focused his chakra, and just like old times a spiral sphere of chakra formed in his hand. He frowned when he saw his Rasengan, meaning his adult life had not been a dream either, but that somehow his memories had gone back in time to his previous self. He didn't know how to explain what happened, since this wasn't time travel, but it wasn't going to another dimension either.
"... Genjutsu?"
Naruto sat down and crossed his legs, before he stopped moving completely. Natural energy entered his body and he balanced it with his chakra, before orange rings appeared around his eyes, and when he opened them up they were yellow with bar pupils.
Sage Mode.
Naruto stood up and tried to sense any hostile chakra around in the nation, chakra that could be a sign that he was in a Genjutsu making him believe he had traveled back in time. He became aware of everything, even the state of his own body. His chakra reserves were about the same from when he had been 12 as well, and the seal on his body was the same as it used to be.
"Kurama?" Naruto asked out loud, looking into the mirror.
-Inside Naruto-
A familiar dungeon.
Familiar jail cell as well that housed the strongest of the 9 Tailed Beasts, the Kyuubi, a massive orange fox with nine tails.
"... Why are you small?"
"So you have your memories too?" Naruto asked as he looked at his old friend, who seemed JUST as confused by what was going on as him. What was more was the fact that Kurama was much smaller than Naruto was used to. "... Ah... you're other half is still with Dad..." Naruto realized as he pounded his fist into his palm.
This was 50% Kurama.
The Kurama that he had as an adult was the 100% completed Kurama, and though Kurama seemed to have his memories of the future, it seemed neither of them were quite complete.
"... I'll think about what happened."
-Outside Naruto-
"Thanks Kurama, I'll leave you alone to try and figure this situation out... until then... today is..." Naruto walked to his calender and looked at what the exact date was. "... I can work with this."
The Bell Test.
Kakashi's bell test, the day he would officially become a fully recognized Genin. If he had really had his memories sent back to the past, then he was going to be able to have a little fun while he was here, if it wasn't permanent. There was so much good he could do, and so many lives he could save, but he seriously doubted that he would be able to convince a lot of people that he was from the future, even if he gave them information that he shouldn't know. It was a few days after he had stolen the Scroll of Secrets, so there was no telling if they believed what else he had managed to steal information was.
"I should hurry, or I'm going to be late."
...
"Heheheh."
-At the Training Grounds-
"YOU'RE LATE NARUTO!"
"Heheheheh, sorry, but I wanted to stop and get some ramen." Naruto scratched his nose with a grin on his face, and he blinked when he saw Sasuke and Sakura glaring at him. He looked at them, seeing them as 12 year olds once more, and for a brief moment a small smile came over his face.
He was hit by a wave of nostalgia.
"I thought I said not to eat."
"We're doing the Bell Test right... the test that the 3rd Hokage did for the Sanin, and that the 4th Hokage did for you right?" Naruto asked as he laid eyes on Kakashi, who was younger as well, but not quite as visibly younger like his friends had been. He saw Kakashi with his left eye covered, and he knew the secret hidden underneath his headband.
Kakashi was stunned for a second.
Naruto just put his hands behind his head and grinned, before he pointed a finger at Kakashi.
"Yeah, and you're Kakashi Hatake, the guy who is famous for being late... guess who did his research... this guy." Naruto pointed to himself. Naruto glanced over at Sasuke and Sakura, only for him to notice they were giving Kakashi shocked looks.
Right, at this age they didn't know that.
Kakashi just gave a smile to Naruto.
"Ah... well then, then lets get to it. The three of you have until noon to get these bells, there are 2 bells and 3 of you, the one who doesn't get a bell doesn't eat. Come at me with whatever weapons you want, including the intent to kill."
"But! You'll be in danger!"
Sakura's shout showed concern for Kakashi.
"Nah, the two of you can't so much as scratch Kakashi-sensei at all. He's a Jonin for a reason, turns out he's really famous... you don't mind if I don't hold back then?" Naruto asked with full confidence in himself.
He had reason to be.
His body was slower and weaker, but he had retained his Sage Mode, Kurama had his memories as well so he had access to that chakra, and what was more was that the years of combat experience he had under his belt now exceeded what Kakashi had. He had experienced battles above what Kakashi had, against opponents that had far more skill. His handicap didn't matter at the moment, his years of training were going to let him do something he had always wished he could have done.
Get a Bell the 1st try.
"You know, real world talk for a second, barking loud means you're weak Mr. Deadlast." Kakashi deadpanned at Naruto.
Naruto just smiled.
"Lets just say that I've been training a lot more than you realize, so go on Kakashi-sensei, say start whenever you want. I'm not the same me from a few days ago who barely passed the academy, I've been doing some serious training."
"Oh, have you... then..."
"BEGIN!"
Sasuke and Sakura rushed off in different directions, hiding themselves away from Kakashi in the blink of an eye. Naruto just stayed standing where he was, and he stared down Kakashi.
"... You know Shinobi are suppose to hide themselves?"
"While Sasuke and Sakura hide, I know hiding won't work. Kakashi of the Sharingan, rival to Might Guy, Student of the 4th Hokage, inventor of the Chidori, and the man who split lightning in half." Naruto stated with a grin as he stretched himself out.
There was a pause.
Kakashi just stared at Naruto, before he pulled a book out of his weapon holder, and looked down at it. Naruto knew Kakashi though, he knew the man was hiding how impressed he was at the moment. He had not been expecting that sort of answer from Naruto.
"Well, at least you did your homework, lets get started when you're ready then."
"Put away the book and use your Sharingan... or you might die."
"I think I'll be fine-"
"RASENGAN!"
Kakashi's eye widened when he saw Naruto charge towards him at full speed with a Rasengan already in hand, and in that second he put away his book. He made a motion to grab Naruto's wrist, but Naruto raised his free hand up.
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
'Rasengan AND he just made Shadow Clones with a single hand!? How much was he holding himself back in the academy... is this really Naruto?!' Kakashi thought when Naruto's clone pulled him back before kicking Kakashi. He raised his guard and blocked the kick, before he saw Naruto move underneath his clone with the Rasengan in hand. He grabbed the clone and throw it, before he jumped back.
Naruto threw several shuriken at him.
The clone he threw ALSO attacked with several kunai, forcing Kakashi to take out a kunai and knock away all of the projectiles. He quickly tossed his kunai at the clone and popped it, before he ran through handsigns.
"Earth Style: Mud Wall!"
He created a barrier between Naruto and himself, jumping back as the Rasengan destroyed his barrier, but bought him a second. He unveiled the Sharingan eye under his headband, and he observed Naruto, who was standing in place and grinning. He looked at Naruto's chakra, and saw traces of the Kyuubi's chakra inside of him.
'This really IS Naruto... there is no faking that seal or that foul chakra... was Naruto secretely training to master these techniques without telling anyone... has the deadlast fool been an act... if so... I would be impressed.' Kakashi cast a Genjutsu on Naruto.
It was broken.
Naruto surged his chakra through his body and broke the Genjutsu just as it was cast on him, and Kakashi smiled to himself. He had underestimated Naruto, but he wasn't too frightened after taking a moment.
"There it is..."
There was a silence between them as they both waited for the other person to attack first.
"SASUKE! SAKURA! Come out of hiding and help me out!"
...
"Figured... guess they don't want to work together... that's fine, they'll come around eventually... so Kakashi-sensei. Well, lets continue." Naruto rushed towards Kakashi.
A swing.
Kakashi's eyes were widened when he saw Naruto clap both of his hands around his kunai, blocking the blade with a grin on his face, and he saw a puff of smoke from behind Naruto as a clone appeared.
'The Ninja Art: Bare-Handed Blade Block... only a few ninja can successfully do that... and another Rasengan!' Kakashi thought as he let go of his kunai, and he quickly ran through handsigns. He forced a circle with his fingers in front of his mouth. He would hold back so he wouldn't hurt Naruto too badly, but he didn't have much choice. "Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"
With that, he jumped back.
The fireball was destroyed by the Rasengan, and the explosion hid Naruto from view for a brief moment. Kakashi wasn't a fool though, he listened for Naruto, and he heard him. He wasn't going to understimate Naruto anymore. There were more puffs of smoke and he saw a small squad of Naruto running at him from the smoke, and he didn't know which Naruto was the real one.
"ULTRA-"
"Above! He had used the smoke to jump up!" Kakashi looked up into the air and saw Naruto high above him, and his eyes widened when he saw a MASSIVE Rasengan. One that was so much bigger than it had any right to be, and he looked down to see the clones were still coming after him, and all of them were wielding the Rasengan as well.
"-BIG BALL RASENGAN!"
Kakashi was fast, he managed to escape in the blink of an eye when Naruto's attack slammed into the ground with enough force to cause an earthquake. The force was enough that the shockwave sent ripples through the forest around them, and he could hear Sakura screaming in shock, and out of the corner of his eye he saw Sasuke jumping to change locations.
2 kunais shot out of the explosion at him.
One of the clones that had thrown weapons, Kakashi ducked down low to the ground, and he saw two MORE kunai hidden underneath the shadows of the kunai. His eyes widened and instead of dodging again, he caught them.
*POOF*
The first 2 kunai were clones.
2 clones rushed at him from the front, and 2 of them started to rush at him from behind, and the real Naruto was coming down at him from above. He dealt with the clones in seconds, throwing 2 kunai to pop the clones before him, kicking both of the clones behind him. Finally, he took a swing at Naruto.
'He's mastered the use of Shadow Clones to a degree I've never seen before... he's been acting like a deadlast for years... and now he's stopped acting...' Kakashi thought as Naruto made a clone to jump off of, with his punch hitting the clone in the stomach. Naruto landed on the ground and started to go through several handsigns.
"Earth Release: Earth style Wall!"
Naruto was hidden from view with a wall formed between them, so Kakashi crossed his fingers, before he stopped.
'I can't divide my chakra right now, I won't win a battle of chakra reserves here... and there is no telling how much he was holding back in the academy... this little genius fooled everyone. He truly inherited his father's talent.' Kakashi saw Naruto stand perfectly still.
No.
No way was that possible, he watched as Naruto changed, as his eyes changed and he entered something that he knew about, but had never actually seen in battle before. In the next second, Naruto vanished in a massive burst of speed. It was only his own insane speed and his sharingan that let him dodge the attack that was coming for him.
"Sage Mode... yep... you told us to come at you with the intent to kill after all. Now, should I JUST use the Rasengan, or should I use the enhanced version where I added an element to it?" Naruto taunted Kakashi.
This was wrong.
Naruto knew what he was doing was stupid, but he TRULY enjoyed the absolute look of shock that appeared on Kakashi's face when Naruto raised his hand above his head, and formed an attack that Kakashi knew shouldn't have existed. The Rasenshuriken, and Kakashi could only watch as Naruto threw it. Naruto tilted the angle of the attack so that Kakashi wasn't at risk of being hit by it, and he made sure that neither Sasuke or Sakura were in danger of getting hit either.
*BOOM*
A mountain in the distance was sliced in half.
Then the mountain BEHIND that mountain exploded.
"Okay, so Kakashi-sensei... should I go a step further than this... should I combine Sage Mode with that chakra inside me... I spent years mastering it... and I can fuse the two together?" Naruto asked with a threatening smile.
Kakashi was stunned into silence.
He actually dropped to his knees in shock after a moment as it sank in.
"Ge... genius..." Kakashi whispered as he looked at Naruto, and he looked at the sliced mountain and destroyed mountain far away. Not only did Naruto hide the fact that he had mastered the Rasengan and Sage Mode, but he had hidden the fact that he had MASTERED how to use the dark chakra that was sealed away inside of him, AND created a technique that nobody had ever been able to make before him.
Stronger.
Naruto was stronger than him, he could see that he didn't have much of a chakra of keeping Naruto from the bells even if he wanted to. He watched as Naruto went back to his Base and left Sage Mode, before he raised his fists up.
Naruto them opened his fists.
The bells dropped out of his fists and onto the grass, with Naruto grinning a goofy smile, placing both of his hands behind his head. Kakashi looked at his waist and saw that at some point in the fight he had lost the bells, and Naruto was just grinning like an idiot, an extremely self-satisfied smile on his face.
"Heheheh." Naruto just chuckled.
He did it.
This was how he had always wished that he could experience this moment, surprising his teacher with how talented he was. He had always wanted Kakashi to see him as a great student from the start, and this was the impression that he had wanted back then. Naruto grabbed the bells off of the ground, before he threw them into the forest.
"Ow."
Then there was the sound of a person catching the bell, with Sakura having gotten hit in the forehead with it, and Sasuke catching it.
"There, you guys can have lunch, I already ate, I figured you two would be hungry." Naruto just grinned as neither of them moved.
The two genin were of course shocked.
THIS was now what they had expected.
"Naruto... I guess you technically pass, helping your teammates... and after that display... I would like to talk with you later, just the two of us. You were holding back quite a lot during the academy it would seem... just who taught you-" Kakashi stopped talking as Naruto grinned.
"Well, lets just say I've had some conversations with some people who knew some people..."
"Ah... that makes sense." Kakashi smiled when he got the hidden meeting. Naruto had learned the Rasengan from somebody who had knew the 4th Hokage, somebody who also knew that it was not a completed jutsu. Somebody who ALSO knew that the 4th Hokage had practiced Senjutsu, and that Naruto was the Kyuubi jinchuriki. "... and did you really... master that?"
"Yep!"
"I see... and you've kept it secret..."
"Heheheh."
Naruto didn't know what was going on, but he was going to use whatever this was as a chance to see what he could do, and the things that he could have fixed if he had just been stronger. There were so many lives lost that he could save, so many deaths that did not have to happen, and he could prevent as many of them as possible.
This was a good chance.
