Adelaide laid the baby in Mrs Bennet chest and watched as the mother instantly wrapped her arms around the bundle.

"It's a beautiful girl." She said to the stunned parents.

Fanny knew not what to say. Before she could organize her thoughts, the room was a flurry of activity. They called back the midwife and the nurses and they all exclaimed at the miracle before their eyes. Half an hour later, mother and baby were clean and ready for a rest and all occupants of the rooms were dismissed. Now that they were alone again, Thomas and Fanny looked at Adelaide in wonder at what they witnessed that night.

Tired as she was, Fanny could not rest before knowing what happened. "Who are you? What was in that tea you gave me?"

Thomas was silent this whole time, trying to understand. He imagined there was a reason the mysterious old woman appeared on his door on this exact night. "Ma'am, I think we need explanations about what happened in this room tonight."

Adelaide simply smiled. "I do not have long. But I will tell you a story. Hundreds and hundreds years ago, before mankind was full of wicked intentions, the Heavens lived in harmony with the Earth. As a result, when men needed help, the Heavens extended their blessings. It was a time of peace, no pain, no sorrow. But then men started to develop traits that made Heaven withdraw their blessings. Greed, pride, violence. A few decided that they didn't wanted to be at the mercy of the Heavens. They wanted to control the power on their own. Soon most of the Earth was corrupted. To avoid allowing men control of a power that would destroy many, the Heavens left the Earth to their own devices. But the suffering of people with pure hearts made the Heavens change this decision. A Star was put in the sky and is the only thing one that can be seen no matter where you are in the globe. The Star can see the real intentions in a person's heart, and give the necessary help to the deserving. But soon these people started to be targeted. And received a blessing from the Star became dangerous. The Star then designated guardians. They should guarantee that whoever was found deserving by the Star remained secure, and secret. To do that they received a flower, a special flower that didn't needed water or earth to survive, but instead was sustained by the power of the Star. The flower should be used to heal, and the guardians should keep their flowers safe. Only a handful of them was placed around the globe. You see, Heavens never lost faith in mankind, and hopped that with time they would find their way back to what they were before greed and malice corrupted them. But time proved that in many ways, mankind cannot be trusted."

Adelaide fell silent and had a grave look in her eyes. Thomas was afraid to ask what happened in the end of her tale, although he suspected. It was his brave Fanny who broke the silence with a question.

"What happened with the flowers?" She asked in a whisper, enthralled by the story.

Adelaide closed her eyes, as if in pain. "A hunt started. People started to talk about a tale of a magical flowers that cured. It was enough to have the worst sort of people hunting guardians. So many died. Not even one revealed the local of their flower. It was no use. The flower was just a symbol. They had no effect it the person trying to use it was not found deserving by the Star." Adelaide released a breath, shaking her head in despair. "The ones hunting the flowers became obsessed. It was clear it had to stop. That's why through the centuries the few remaining guardians released their flowers to...the Chosen Ones. There would be flowers no more, but a person chosen by the Star to held the healing powers and bestow then on the ones that the Star found deserving. That Chosen One would have their lifetime to spread love, goodness, mercy, and help those who needed. After their deaths, the power would return to it's source. After the last Chosen One's death, the Star will no longer exist. Heavens will find another way to help those who beg with a pure heart. A way that won't cause as much sorrow..."

She finished with a sad smile. Fanny looked at the sleeping baby in her arms and, understanding what Adelaide was saying about her daughter, worried.

Thomas could not believe what The woman was saying. He asked again in a trembling voice. ""Ma'am, why have you come to our door tonight?"

"The Star saw, It tell's me. You and your wife have pure hearts. You can be trusted with the last flower. Your daughter, she is a gift, a blessing. And she is the last Chosen One. Teach her well, give her morals and principles. Teach her more than hou to use her healing powers, teach her the power of love, compassion and forgiveness. Keep her safe."

Fanny looked up with tears in her eyes. "How?! If our daughter is to carry such a burden, how can we keep her safe? How can we guarantee that she will not be...hunted!? How can we protect her? They will try to hurt my baby. I didn't asked for this. Why us?"

Adelaide caressed her hair. "True, you didn't asked for this. But there's no family more capable than yours. Because you know how to love. You are, and will be, an amazing mother Francine Bennet. I have to go. My time here is over."

Adelaide looked one last time at the sleeping baby and turned to the door. But before she could open it, Thomas came out of his stupor. "Wait! How are we going to do this? How can we protect her?"

Adelaide simply smiled and said "In exact two weeks from now, go to London. When the clock struck two in the afternoon, be in Vauxhall Gardens, in front of the big oak in the south of the Garden. A man, dressed as a member of the peerage will walk to you. He will remark that it's a pleasant day to find flowers. You will say that you most special flowers are at home. He will help you. The Protectors always help."

After that, Adelaide opened the door and left. After a few seconds Thomas recovered enough to go after her and escort her to the door, but she was not in the corridor. He made his way to the entrance hall, but didn't found her, it was almost like she... disappeared.

Thomas came back to the Mistress chambers and looked in the scared eyes of his wife. "Oh Thomas, what are we going to do?"

"We will do as she said, we will protect our daughter." Thomas said with more confidence than he felt.

For the rest of the night, Thomas held his wife and daughter. They made an agreement to never speak about what happened that night to anyone until the had more information. Fanny, still exhausted, though not nearly as she should be after the day she had the healing powers of the flower, soon fell asleep. Thomas never left them. That's how the doctor found them three hours later. Mr Hill received him and brought the disheveled doctor to his master in the chambers. Thomas gently woke Fanny and after an examination from the doctor, he declared the happy outcome a miracle.

"I say Mrs Bennet, God smiled to you today! Your life, and the life of your daughter is a miracle. As the weather kept away until now, I am happy you had experienced midwifes to help you. It's a very healthy and beautiful girl you have here. What shall you name her?"

Thomas and Fanny looked to each other before revealing the name of their choosing, and it sounded more fitting than ever after the days events.

"Elizabeth Fleur Bennet."
