a/n bad situations and poor choices ahead! Things should start moving again!
The ice with which he wrapped his heart in was allowed to melt slowly over time.
When he would return to the shiro he had to return to being the cold, cruel Lord.
As Inuyasha grew, he began to resent having to remain at the hut while Sesshoumaru was able to leave and travel. Although he knew it was for his safety, he wanted to be with his brother.
After a summertime visit, he did just that. He waited a day, then followed after his brother. Sesshoumaru had taught him all about tracking and how to follow scents and he did just that.
Right to the gates of the shiro.
Sesshoumaru was in his study when a rapid distressed knocking began on the shoji.
"Enter"
"My Lord, there is a hanyo here! He… he looks like your great sire!"
Sesshoumarus stomach dropped. He hoped it was not Inuyasha. Those in the shiro would not understand. They would try to kill him.
He left the study, trying not to run in his concern for his brother. Fighting the fear he felt as he knew others would be able to scent it.
As soon as he stepped out of the shiro all his fears came true. Several youki of all types were holding down his half brother, he could hear their threats and knew they weren't idle. He could see the blades at Inuyasha's throat and scent the copper of his blood.
Inuyasha looked up towards him, their eyes meeting.
He knew he could not show weakness in front of these youki, they would cut down Inuyasha without mercy just to hurt him. Any attachment to another being would have them harmed or killed just to get to him.
There would be only one way to keep his brother safe.
"What are you doing here half breed?" His voice wavering on the last words. He hoped that those holding his brother believed it in anger, and not the fear and sadness of what he had to do to protect him. He hoped they believed this act, and that Inuyasha would forgive him.
"Sesshoumaru, get these youki off me!" Inuyasha yelled uncertainly, trying to heave them off.
"You are not welcome at this ones shiro." Sesshoumarus hands fisted, his claws pricking his skin. His heart hurting seemly more than when he found his father with the woman he loved. "You will leave at once, and never return to the West."
Inuyasha's fight left him. Sesshoumaru could only see Izayoi in the look Inuyasha gave him.
'Please' Sesshoumaru pleaded in his mind, turning away so none would see the pain on his face 'please know I'm trying to protect you'
The other youki pulled him to his feet, dragging his shocked body from the grounds. Sesshoumaru could scent the tears in his brother's eyes at the betrayal.
He knew he could not go after Inuyasha right then. It would show weakness and put his brother in greater danger. He had to wait and so he retreated to his study.
The next day the perfect opportunity presented itself as leaves of all shapes and sizes blew into the shiro grounds. An unnatural wind brought hundreds of them into the shiro, indicating the magnolias need to converse with him.
"This one must speak with Bokuseno." He told his head of house, spinning a particularly large leaf in his fingers, voice void of all emotion.
Within the glade of trees, protected from prying eyes by Bokuseno's barrier, Sesshoumaru dropped to his knees. He cried out his pain for what he had done to his brother, for yet another lost to him.
