Alright, so now we have Brick.
I must admit, of the three Ruffs I probably relate to him most, and yet in my opinion he's the toughest one to analyze. In the show, he may be the leader but he's just as loudmouthed as Butch and can be just as short sighted as Boomer. He's openly cocky, brash, and certainly doesn't lack confidence in who he is and what he does.
So I went a little deeper. Won't say more than that but I hope it does him justice. At least for right now before major character development later on.
Enjoy everyone!
Chapter 4. Brick
The Bludgeoner
It wasn't easy being the leader of the Rowdyruff Boys. Actually, the term 'babysitter' was more descript. Of course his title was well deserved: Boomer could out eat, burp, fart, or spit any one of them. Butch enjoyed incinerating or destroying anything that moved. But not one of his brothers could out scrap him, not even on a good day. Perks of being the oldest. A blessing and a curse of the only Ruff bestowed with any kind of common sense.
Leaders were often laden with such burdens. No one understood the pressure they were under or the other nautical nonsense they had to put up with. Especially in his case.
Take Boomer for example. The baby blondie who'd probably starve to death in a grocery store if he was ever locked inside one. He had no frame of reference for anything that went on outside of that simple naive golden head of his. Though he rarely questioned his orders, his little brother had a tendency to get lost in daydreams and whatever flying object happened to pass them by. He was too sensitive for his own good. That's why Brick considered it his duty to toughen him up. He'd learned quickly the world tended to snap up the weak without regard for mercy or age. Being eight didn't mean the people cared one bit. Leave that to the suckers who obsessed over helpless animals.
Butch...ugh Butch. It took a lot of self control to not punch the kid's lights out sometimes. Brash, reckless, impulsive, and without any measure of discipline or focus, his middle brother tended to cause the most headaches. Aside from the occasional whining, Boomer usually followed his command. Butch looked for any excuse to defy or ignore such commands. One time, he even became cocky enough to challenge for the mantle of 'leader' though that ended almost as soon as it began. It was important to reassert that authority from time to time and with good reason. Butch needed to learn to keep his mouth shut.
The main reason he was able to keep the title of 'leader' was through a combination of fear, dominance, and the threat of his explosive temper. Yes, he could get angry sometimes. Somebody sue him. It wasn't like they could. His main element, aside from a puppy dog tail, was fire; a destructive force, a powerful concoction of gold, orange, red, and blue that possessed the ability to destroy anything in its path if left unchecked. That's how his brothers described his rage: an out of control inferno capable of wiping out entire cities.
(Pfft, it was lucky he wasn't interested in destroying the city anymore)
And boy did he have a lot of rage. It stemmed from multiple things, chief among them his brothers' idiocy. Being able to summon fire probably added to it somewhere in his natural DNA. But there was one thing, one key aspect of his personality that really sparked all of that hot blooded fury.
Ambition.
Brick had that in spades. It's why he drove himself to be better than everyone around him. Better than the stupid city, better than the mayor, better than the other villains, better than his own brothers even…
And especially better than those goody two shoes, sunshine, know-it-all Powerpuff Girls.
The blue one was a ditz, too obsessed with stuffed animals and cutesy things to care about much else, even if she did have one of the most earth shattering screams alive. The green one? A fighter with a mean right hook but she was like Butch: bold, arrogant, and never planned anything in advance. All muscle, no brain.
Steam practically came out of his ears when he thought of their commander and leader. The pink one.
Brick despised her with every fiber of his Chemical X enhanced body. From the abnormally large red bow, to that girly pink dress, right down to the stainless white tights, and prissy Mary Janes. But above all, her attitude made him want to vomit. A snotty, stuck up, little miss perfect, overachiever. He knew the type. Always turning her nose at everyone who wasn't as picturesque and amazing as she was.
It honestly made him want to break something, preferably a used car.
But, being far more logical and intelligent than either of his idiot brothers, the smallest of seeds, the tiniest of voices spoke to him in ways he did not care to hear but acknowledged nonetheless. The fact of the matter was, she was a good leader. He'd studied the Powerpuff Girls multiple times in their tactics and strategies. Minus a handful of times they bickered, they worked well together and had a contingency plan for every monster or villain that stepped foot in Townsville. Even them.
Which made Blossom Utonium's success against him and his brothers all the more infuriating. They were designed to be stronger than the girls. They should have wiped them out at least three times! And yet the scales remained even. Neither were able to gain the upper hand and he could see the smug little smirk that played around the corners of pinky's mouth.
Do you ever think Brick?
Screw her! He'd show them! He'd show them all! He didn't need to destroy the Powerpuff Girls to make his point. Everyone in that dumb city looked down on them as nothing more than dogs...toilet trash conceptualized inside of a dirty, rusting prison.
If that's the way they want to play it...I'll give it to them. Rowdyruff style!
The truth was, he didn't want to blow the girls up, he wanted to show them up. And one day those sissies would reap what they sowed! The Rowdyruffs were beholden to no one. He had to remind his brothers that daily and made sure it stayed ingrained in their thick skulls. To keep them in line.
Eerie, high feminine pitched laughter echoed in his head.
No one. Not even you...Him
Alright, that's it for our red head as of now. But now the story is about to kick into another level. Tune in next week!
