Hi everyone! Here's the new chapter.
Bare with me at the start there, I'm not all too happy with the first half of it, but well what can ya do. Thank you for the reviews, the follows and for everyone favouriting this story! I'm so happy to know this story is something you enjoy reading! I really appreciate it!
Of course, reviews are always super welcome, i love reading your thoughts about literally anything that is happening. This chapter's question is: What's your favourite monster of the show of literally every monster that ever appeared, not just the big ones? Personally, i love the weeping angels and the vashta nerada, because they're both terrifying and have great potential.
Now on to the chapter!
Love, Maze
Agnes could hardly remember what happened afterwards. Maybe it was because of the adrenaline that had pumped throughout her veins and made her focus on survival only. Or maybe it was the stupid derealization that still didn't seem to want to leave her just, yet.
All the way down and out of the cave until they were back in the Tardis was a blur. She had hardly registered the conversation between the Doctor and Amy or the goodbyes that were then exchanged with River and the other clerics. River had smiled at her and squeezed her shoulder, saying something about looking forward to breakfast with her and the Romans. And then she was gone and the Doctor had pulled her towards the Tardis and inside.
Now she was sitting on the jumping chair, wrapped inside a blanket, probably meant for the shock, not that she needed it of course, and followed the Doctor's movement around the console with her eyes.
She thought that maybe this wasn't how it should be. Maybe there was supposed to be more excitement from her side. Wasn't she meant to go around the Tardis, jump up and down with excitement and ramble about how it was so much bigger on the inside than on the outside?
But instead, she was sitting here like being inside a time and space ship that was dimensional transcendent was the most casual thing. She felt the Doctor's glance on her from time to time, but she decided to ignore it.
The warmth was slowly returning to her body, the blanket helped in that aspect. Maybe wrapped inside it a little bit longer would help her feel more like herself again.
"I want to go home," Amy spoke into the silence. She sat next to Agnes and had stared into the air with a thoughtful expression on her face until then. Now she was looking towards The Doctor, who halted in his movements and Agnes saw his shoulders tense a little.
"Okay."
The shift in the air was noticeable and Amy let out a laugh, getting up to walk towards the Doctor to tell him she just wanted to show him what she was running from. Not because she wanted to leave him.
Agnes already knew what that was of course.
When the Doctor had parked the Tardis in Amy's bedroom he didn't immediately follow the redhead inside. Instead, he knelt down in front of her, looking up at Agnes with a concerned expression. She felt frustrated when her sight didn't clear up.
"Are you holding up?" The Doctor asked, reaching to place his hands on hers.
She considered the question for a second, rolling it over in her mind as she tried to assess the situation at hand.
"You're still blurry," was her only response.
The Doctor nodded. "It'll go away, I promise."
He gave her a reassuring smile and Agnes nodded. "Okay."
"Can we leave you alone for a minute?" he asked, straightening up again as he looked towards Amy who was standing at the door, waiting for him patiently.
Agnes rolled her eyes at him, pulling the blanket tighter around herself.
"I'm not a child, Doctor. I'll be fine."
The Doctor eyed her strangely before nodding and turning to catch up with Amy. Soon enough the both of them have left and Agnes was alone in the Tardis.
Alone in the quiet of a time machine and spaceship. Wow, this was a little too much to process right now.
The Tardis door opened again a few minutes later and a squealing Amy stumbled inside. As her eyes landed on Agnes though her smile vanished. The Doctor followed after her quickly, pulling the door close behind him and looking very much overwhelmed with the situation. He gave Amy a serious look but as he turned and saw Agnes standing and leaning against the console his expression contorted into one of shock.
She had that impression on people, she guessed.
"Did you know she'd do that?" The Timelord asked in a scolding tone, running up the stairs until he stood in front of Agnes, who just stared at him in utter confusion.
"Uh...do what?"
He, a grown man might she add, then proceeded to pull silly faces and make kissy kissy sounds, moving his hands to connect his thumb and the rest of his fingers into a beak form. She looked at him with a blank expression on her face, as he went to gesture between him and Amy and then slowly when he saw Agnes' smile, he stopped.
"Just say kissing, for christ sake," she snorted, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
The Doctor gaped at her as if she had something horrible and unnatural. "So you knew?" He pointed an accusatory finger at her. She shrugged.
"Yeah, so?"
Agnes didn't know what the problem was. He acted as if kissing was the worst thing that could have ever happened to him. In all of time in space that is what he wanted to get hung up on? A lil kiss kiss?
"And you don't care?" The Doctor sounded so confused and he was frowning, too, and Agnes cocked her head at him.
"Doctor, it's just snogging. Don't act as if you've never done that before. I mean, I remember Madame the Pompadour and Queen Liz, even Captain Jack!" she counted on her fingers, the Doctor's cheeks turning a slight shade of pink.
At the mention of Jack Amy looked suddenly very interested in the Doctor's past hookups.
"I...of course i...have you?" he stuttered.
"Sure."
"You're too young!" The Doctor shouted in protest, making Agnes and Amy giggle.
"Now you sound like my granny!"
The Timelord threw his hands in the air, face pulled into an indignant frown and Agnes couldn't help but laugh. He acted like a man child, offended at the thought of kissing, like some little boy. Ridiculous considering he was like a thousand years old.
Amy stepped towards her, then, looking a little sheepish.
"You're not angry?"
Agnes stared at her in confusion. Why would she be angry?
She just sent the redhead a grin.
"Uh, duh. Of course, I am. I think after I've stayed behind with you and protected you from those weeping Angels I'm the one who deserves a kiss."
Amy's face lightened up at that and she snorted, then pulled her into a side hug and gave Agnes a loud smooch on her cheek, making her giggle again.
"Okay, I think I'm going to take a shower now," Amy remarked, patting her shoulder before turning to leave, jumping up the stairs and vanishing through one of the openings in the walls.
Agnes watched her leave, feeling a little bit of the lightheartedness that Amy carried around, leave the air. And the warm feeling in her chest the shared banter had created vanishing, leaving behind what felt like…a hole for the lack of a better word. She felt tired. And a little bit like crying.
The Doctor let out a frustrated puff of air, drawing her attention to him and she saw he was back at the control panel, punching a few buttons and pulling a lever. She pushed away from the railing. The Doctor was standing with his back turned towards her, concentrated on something on the screen of the Tardis.
She hesitated for a second, intertwining and entwining her fingers with one another before she let out a sigh as well. No use in being awkward now. More determined she reached out to lightly poke at The Doctor's shoulder, making him turn around to her. His eyes roamed her face quickly and she saw him softening at the sight of her.
She must look like a mess…
"Eh…," she started, suddenly insecure around him, "Can I...can I have a hug?"
The question was stupid. She knew that. She was being stupid. Hadn't she just told him she wasn't a child? And now she wanted a hug…Wasn't she just being so stupid?
But the Doctor's face lit up at her words and he turned around fully, pulling her into an embrace, quicker than Agnes could react. Arms snuck around her waist and he held her tightly, as Agnes was forced to wrap her arms around his shoulders.
It was nice. Really nice. She felt herself relax as his hand was stroking her back and she dropped her face into his shoulder, hiding herself away. She was such a child.
"I'm scared," she admitted quietly to her own surprise and The Doctor hummed.
"I know, but you're safe here. You're with me and I won't let anything happen to you," he promised and Agnes wanted to believe him.
"The jumping," she started, sinking more into the hug.
"Yeah?"
"You've already met me in your past," she concluded.
It was the only logical explanation after all.
He hummed.
"But you like me."
He snorted in amusement like it was the funniest thing ever.
"Yes, I like you," he teased.
"You don't like River a lot. Not yet. I mean, if I jump around and I know all about you and your life you wouldn't like me a lot either. You don't like people who know your future."
She was confused about that. He hadn't really been extremely rude to River during this adventure particularly, but he was a lot colder towards her than Agnes. He had hugged Agnes and kissed her forehead and he had genuinely smiled at her.
River he had mostly ignored or given suspicious side glances. He didn't trust the woman but for some odd reason, he trusted her...or at least liked her.
"See, Agnes. You're not River. I've known you for a very long time now. A lot longer than River, that is," he pulled back so they could look each other in the face again, looking at her with a soft smile on his features.
"How long?"
"Very long."
Agnes rolled her eyes at the curt answer but nodded nonetheless. No use in arguing with him when she was this tired. With a sigh, she stepped back again and away from the comforting place between the Doctor's arms.
"Mh, didn't think I'd be the kind of companion you'd like sticking along," She awkwardly rubbed her arm.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm not really the nicest person."
He laughed, looking downright amused at her statement. Looking like he somewhat agreed but didn't think of it as anything bad. "Agnes Moore, you don't have to be nice to be utterly amazing."
She blushed a little at his words.
"Maybe I should take a shower, too. I feel all weird."
The Doctor nodded, walking back towards the console to press a few buttons before grabbing her hand and pulling her up the stairs and into the corridors of the Tardis. Agnes let him, only huffing a little in protest.
"I'll show you to your room."
"I have a room?"
The Doctor laughed and glanced back at her.
"Yes, silly, where do you think you sleep?"
"I don't know. In a box labelled 'junk I don't know how to get rid off yet'?" she suggested.
"You're unbelievable."
"I know."
The way through the corridors and towards her room was longer than she'd expected. The Doctor led the way, turning right and left enough times Agnes was sure she wouldn't be able to find her way back towards the control room herself. She hadn't paid much attention, either way, not to mention that she wasn't sure she could trust her memory at the moment. With her current state of mind and all. She really hoped that would go away as soon as The Doctor promised.
"I'll give you a proper tour later. You'll go shower first and then I have to take care of Amy," he told her, pulling her around another corner. How many more were there to follow?
"You mean get Rory?" she asked and the Doctor sent her a smirk.
They've stopped in front of a wooden door, then. It was dark ebony with stars scattered across the wood, drawn with white paint. In the centre of the door were her initials, carved into the wood. Agnes looked at it in surprise. The Doctor didn't wait, pushing the door open and pulling her into the room, which was, by far the most beautiful room Agnes had ever seen.
The walls were painted the same colour as the Tardis was, a dark shade of blue. The floor was laminated with similar material to her dad's office, light birch. There was a huge bed right next to the door, a dozen pillows covering the bedframe and decorated with a light blue bed duvet. It looked so comfortable she want to throw herself on it and never get up again. Reaching out her hand to push down at the mattress told her she was right, it was comfortable. And welcoming.
Looking around further she saw there was a staircase leading up to another level with bookcases covering the wall. A television hung on the wall opposite her bed. And there was a desk at the wall right to her bed. A notebook and a few pencils were the only items placed there. Over the desk hung a shelf with a few trinkets, a Rubik's cube and a chemical's table that made Agnes snort in amusement. At the other end of the room were two doors, one was open and revealed the bathroom the other one was closed. A small closet right next to her bed.
The Doctor pointed towards the second door.
"That's the rest of your closet," he explained and Agnes stared at him with her mouth agape.
"I have a walk-in closet in my TARDIS room?" she asked baffled and the Doctor laughed.
Agnes looked around the room, her room, a space in The Tardis that belonged only to her and she felt her mood shift. "Why are you showing me this room? I'll never want to leave ever again. Wait, is that a painting of Vincent van Gogh?" She gaped as she looked at the wall behind her bed to see starry night hanging there. The Doctor gave her a smile.
"The Tardis made the room a while back. It just appeared one day, shortly after I've met you for the first time. She sometimes adds objects, it depends at what point in your time you use the room. She is very strict about spoilers."
"Well, I bloody love it," Agnes blurted out, rushing towards the dresser, seeing a bunch of footwear right beside it. Pretty much all the shoes she had back at her home plus a few more. When she opened the dresser she saw loads of shirts and hoodies and pants and skirts she either has had back at home or would have wanted to have.
"Fuck me," she breathed out.
"Language," The Doctor warned her.
"Can I marry the Tardis?", she turned towards the Doctor, before remembering she should probably ask the ship itself "Will you marry me?"
A soft mechanical hum sounded through the room and Agnes beamed.
"I take that as a yes."
"So I guess you'll be okay?" the Doctor asked laughing.
Agnes let out a snort, waving him away and with a last chuckle, he closed the door behind himself.
—
After Agnes had taken a shower, removed all the stupid make-up off her face and changed into more comfortable clothing. She was wearing soft fabric light blue tank top, a very oversized zipper hoodie in dark blue, that felt like a blanket was still wrapped around her and some washed-out light blue boyfriend jeans that were cuffed at the end and had holes at the knees. She felt more herself. She'd opened up her hair, too, which was now falling in curls of silver to her shoulders.
The hot water had also helped get rid of that dreamlike feeling and cleared her mind a little. She still didn't feel totally ready to confront the situation at hand but now she was at least able to examine her room even better. She was right about the bed, it was extremely comfortable and when she had let herself fall back on it she had seen that the ceiling was painted with stars and constellations.
She had also gone up the stairs to find the bookshelves were filled to the brink with books on science, astronomy, history, ancient legends and myths and books on her favourite artists and other topics she loved. There was a record player, too and discs of all her favourite artists.
"You're honestly my favourite person, now," she whispered towards the Tardis as she let her fingers dance over the bannister. A soft humming filled the air. Agnes could swear the Tardis sounded a little cocky, but honestly, after the talent in interior design she showed off she had every right to be.
Agnes looked towards the door. She could probably head back to the Doctor and Amy now.
"You think you can lead me back to the control room? That would be really great."
Another hum told her the Tardis could. She grinned widely, crossing the room to grab a pair of black boots to pull on before stepping out of the room.
She turned left remembering that's where the Doctor and she have come from. The rest of the way was more complicated, she often found herself going around the wrong corner only for the Tardis to end up leading her by light because she got frustrated with her. Soon enough she heard the voice of the Doctor again.
"I like the bit when someone says it's bigger on the outside. I always look forward to that."
His voice sounded a little pouty and the girl couldn't hold back her grin. This would be so much fun.
"Oh my god!" Agnes shouted before bursting through the entrance, her eyes widened in feigned shock. All attention was on her immediately, heads turning in her direction and The Doctor, upon her screaming, turned around with wide eyes. Agnes ignored all the panicked glances and suppressed a laugh, jumping down the stairs.
"It's so much bigger on the inside!" she gasped, hitting the Doctor's arm when she had reached him.
At that, the Doctor's expression changed from alarmed to happy. He beamed at her, but Agnes went around him to greet Rory, who was standing there, staring at her as if he's seen a ghost. She leant in, raising her hand to her mouth. "Did you notice? It's bigger...On the inside!"
Rory furrowed his eyebrows, looking at her with utter bewilderment.
"Now I feel like you're making fun of me, Agnes," The Doctor chimed from behind her and the girl snorted in amusement
"I'd never," she gave him an innocent smile.
"Wait...Agnes?" Rory asked from behind her and the girl turned to smile at him, raising her hand in a wave.
"Hi, Rory, what's up?"
She was trying to act casual. Meeting her favourite people? No biggie for her. Just staying cool...Only to see Rory's mouth falling open in a gape before he started sputtering. "You're a child, I- I mean you're so young!"
Agnes pouted. That was honestly the last thing she expected. He was meant to sound happy to see her, not insult her. How rude.
"And didn't you have blue hair?"
Now, that was something.
"Blue hair?" she asked excitedly before she felt the Doctor's hand grab her arm and pull her away from Rory.
"Shush, no spoilers," he warned the blond, but Agnes shook her head violently, pointing a finger at The Doctor and sticking out her tongue from behind his back, hoping Rory got the message that yes, spoilers were allowed. Very much allowed. Please tell her more about her blue hair.
Rory looked even more lost than he did before, glancing in between The Doctor and Agnes, before looking at Amy for help, who just shrugged, arms crossed in front of her chest.
"What...why."
"That is not the Agnes you know. This Agnes has never met you, yet," The Doctor explained, staring the blond down with a very serious expression on his face.
"Okay, now you've lost me," Rory told him, looking towards Amy again who only rolled her eyes.
"She explained it to you, didn't she. The jumping?" she reminded him and Rory nodded.
"Good, great," the Doctor mused, letting go of Agnes to instead go around the control panel again.
"Uh...I guess you don't know me, then. I'm Rory," Rory awkwardly introduced himself very well aware she had already addressed him by his name.
Agnes grinned at him. So he had understood. Smart boy.
"Hello, Rory," she greeted but then turned serious. "I'm not a child."
"You do look very young without the make-up, though," Amy argued, coming around to poke Agnes in the cheek. The teenager sent her a glare, pushing the redhead's shoulder, who only grinned widely, before turning towards her fiance. "So, this date. I'm kind of tired of running down corridors. What do you think, Rory?"
"How about something romantic?"
That something romantic did end up being Venice.
When Agnes stepped outside the Tardis, right behind the Doctor she felt extremely weird. The ground felt solid underneath her feet and she found shaking her legs in an attempt to establish the reality of this scenario. Venice was warm, there was a slight breeze but it was warm enough so she didn't need a jacket. The salty smell of the sea hit her nose and she wrinkled it. She didn't think she remembered being at the sea in a long time so the smell was something extremely new to her and she felt her nose scrunching up a little. The Doctor was ranting about Venice in 1580 next to her. Trailing off about it like a lovesick historian. The monologue was familiar to her and when she looked around even the people were. It was fascinating really, the atmosphere was more lighthearted than she thought it would be, people were walking and talking, all dressed in old middle age fashion.
Amy and Rory were listening to the Doctor, clearly excited about everything around them. While Agnes was so absorbed into everything around, she didn't bother paying attention. If the dream vision had affected everything she had seen, felt and heard earlier, with it now gone she felt almost overwhelmed by everything. All the colours and sounds and all those smells. The Doctor had to grab her hand so she wouldn't just stay behind in front of the Tardis, just kinda managing to snap Agnes out of it.
"Oh, that reminds me. 1580. That's all right. Casanova doesn't get born for a hundred and forty-five years. Don't want to run into him. I owe him a chicken," she heard the Doctor say and despite it all Agnes just laughed.
It just blurted out of her, bubbling laughter that resulted in a fit of giggles when Rory asked the Doctor "You owe Casanova a chicken?" sounding the most confused she has heard him until now.
The Doctor smiled at her from the side and shrugged.
"Long story. We had a bet."
At that nonchalant answer, Agnes' laughter only got worse and she shook her head, raising her hand to wipe at her eye.
"Do you know how easy it is to get a chicken? Why don't you just go back and give this poor man his bird?" she questioned.
The Doctor grinned at her, already opening his mouth probably to crack some form of joke when there was suddenly a man in front of them stopping them from walking any further.
"Woah, woah, woah, woah," the man raises his hand, looking between the four of them with a frown "Papers if you please. Proof of residency, current bill of medical inspection."
The Doctor, unconcerned, pulled a black envelope out of his pocket, opened it and showed it to the man, sending his companions a smug grin. Agnes recognized the black envelope as the psychic paper almost immediately.
"There you go, fellow. All to your satisfaction, I think you'll find."
The man snatched it out of the Doctor's hand, skipping over whatever he saw written on it quickly before his eyes widened in panic.
"I am so sorry, Your Holiness. I didn't realize," the man bowed before them.
The Doctor blessed him and Agnes had to force herself to hold back a snort. It might be the hardest thing she'd ever had to do. Not only because of the gesture but also because she couldn't grasp the idea that the man saw The Doctor in his tweed and bowtie and actually believed him to be royalty of some sort. The Doctor...Royalty...
"No worries. You were just doing your job," The Doctor said, before halting "Sorry, what exactly is your job?"
"Checking for Aliens," the man told him leading Amy and The Doctor to exchange amused glances while Agnes tries her best to look as serious as possible while the man's eyes glanced towards her, nodding solemnly "Visitors from foreign lands that might bring the plague with them."
Amy frowned at the man's words, looking to the Doctor with an annoyed look.
"Oh, that's nice. See where you bring us? The plague?" she complained, leaning around Agnes to hit The Doctor on his arm.
The official, who seemed to fear his words had upset Amy, bowed down to her deeply.
"Don't worry, Viscountess," he reassured her. Amy gave him an understanding nod which almost made Agnes lose it all, "No, we're under quarantine here. No one comes in, no one goes out, and all because of the grace and wisdom of our patron, Signora Rosanna Calvierri."
Agnes frowned, swiftly remembering the history lesson they've had on the black plague. All she remembered was that it was around somewhere in the 14th century, not in the 16th.
"Wait, I thought the plague died out years ago," she wondered out loud, feeling the official's eyes shift toward her with interest. "Or so I heard," she added, trying to sound more eloquent and royal than before.
The Doctor sent her a smile.
"Not out there," the man exclaimed, pointing behind them towards the sea dramatically, "No, Seniora Clavierri has seen it with her own eyes. Streets are piled high with bodies, she said."
The Doctor was intrigued now, Agnes could tell.
"Did she now?" he asked and sent Agnes a questioning look before signalling her to follow behind.
They passed the officials, whose attention was now pulled towards his new target and quickly made their way through the streets. Amy and Rory following close behind.
"You don't happen to know anything about this, do you?" The Doctor asked, eyes roaming around looking for anything to catch his interest. Agnes took the time to look around on her own, but other than The Doctor she was focused on the architecture around her and the people, ignoring his question.
"I've been to Venice before," she told him.
The Doctor fell back into step with her, looking down at Agnes with a big smile on his face.
"Oh? You haven't told me."
"Yeah, with my parents. I was very little. I only remember feeding the pigeons. There aren't that many around," she told him, nonchalantly, not seeing the way the Doctor looked at her sadly. "Yeah, no, there aren't."
Something seemed to have caught his eye as he quickly snatched her hand and pulled her towards the canal, his eyes fixated on something that was happening on the other side. Agnes saw an iron gate swing open, girls in white dresses, holding white parasols walked out two by two, their faces covered by heavy veils.
Amy and Rory who had caught up to them walked to stand beside them. Amy leaned over the wall to have a better look at what was happening and Agnes followed her example.
"The Calvierri girls," she heard some woman whisper in astonishment and Agnes felt a shiver run down her spine.
Those girls were giving her bad vibes even from this far away. Sure, she already knew what was behind them but she was sure even without knowing, the scenery in front of them alone would have given away that something weird was going on behind the walls.
They saw a man running up to the girls when they were about to pull their veils off, pushing through the girls and looking frantically around. He was screaming but from this side, Agnes couldn't hear what he said, she only knew that man was looking for his daughter. He seemed to have found her, as he stopped in front of a girl, who then proceeded to try to back away from him. Then the man got pushed away by one of the girl's surrounding them. Quite a hard push, as the man landed on the ground.
Agnes frowned. She glanced towards the Doctor curious about his reaction to the scene when she found the place beside her empty.
Of course.
When she looked up, searching the crowd around them she spot his head of hair right before he turned a corner. Before she could think it through she had run after him, not ready to be without the Doctor yet. After all, hadn't he told her she was safe because he was with her? Why was he leaving her behind then?
Agnes pushed through the people, turning into the same alley she thought she saw The Doctor going into but there were only a few people in sight and none of them was the Timelord she was looking for. Agnes let out a huff, continuing forward but even at the next corner, there was no sight of the Doctor.
Great. The girl decided that it was best to return to Amy and Rory then because some way or another The Doctor would certainly return later. When she arrived at the same place they've all watched the girls there was no one in sight. No Amy and no Rory.
Great.
Now she was lost in Venice all on her own.
Agnes huffed, turning to walk back the way she saw the Doctor disappear in. At least she had some idea about the general direction he went in. She didn't really have a choice but try to find him herself. After turning random corners for a while and not spotting the bright blue of his bowtie she became more and more hopeless.
Returning to the Tardis was also not an option anymore because she had no idea how to get back there. Everything just looked the same, honestly. So Agnes decided that if she was lost she'd at least make the best of it. The Doctor would find her again when he noticed she was missing from their group, so there was no reason to panic, right?
Instead of panicking, she strolled around the streets of Venice, letting her eyes roam over the people and surroundings. It was quite beautiful here in a very old fashioned way. Some people were eyeing her weirdly when she strode by, she could only guess because of her ripped jeans (maybe she should have changed into a dress or a skirt when noticing they've landed in 1588) but she just shot them a smile and continued on down the streets.
She was just walking down a very abandoned alley when a voice ripped her out of her thoughts.
"What peculiar clothing for a seniorita from around here."
Agnes turned around, eyes landing on the only other person besides her in the alley. A guy around her age, maybe older than her, who upon her stare gave her a sly smirk. He wore pompous clothing, at least she thought it was during that time, even though he looked quite ridiculous in it.
Something about his face was familiar to her but Agnes didn't know why.
"Well, I'm not from around here," she countered easily.
The man cocked his head to his side as he examined her appearance, taking a few steps closer to her, so he was standing almost right in front of her. Agnes narrowed her eyes at the stranger and she took a cautious step backwards. Why did she know him?
"Is that so?" he asked, his tone hiding something behind it that made the hairs on her arms stand up.
Agnes eyed him suspiciously. "I'm a traveller. From far away, actually." And the man looked absolutely delighted, taking another step towards her as his grin widened. "How fascinating."
"Yeah, extremely," she deadpanned.
"I happen to have travelled here, too, from far away," he told her, his voice charming.
He gestured his hand vaguely in the air, taking another step towards as he did so. Her instincts told her to run but Agnes was too intrigued now to leave before she knew where she knew him from. And why he had this look on his face...
"Yeah?" she asked, trying to sound interested "Where did you come from?"
The man's grin turned even slier when he noticed he had managed to gain her full attention.
He looked down at her, his eyes shining with something she could only describe as hunger and it was just then and only early enough that Agnes realized who he was, for her to dodge out to the left when he exposed his fangs and lashed towards her.
Without thinking she threw her leg up and kicked at him, his knee specifically, before jolting around and running off. He grunted behind her and then hissed before the sound of fast steps followed her. Her feet were hitting the floor with loud thuds as she bolted through the tight alley, arms held up in front of her so she wasn't catching on on anything that could hold her back. She heard the steps behind her grow closer, the guy, now she knew it was that creepy vampire son of the main chick, following close behind her.
She came bolting around the corner, hand reaching out to push herself off the next wall she would have stumbled into because of the high speed. People were screaming in surprise at her sudden arrival and ducking out of the way when she dodged past them. Looking behind her she saw that the man had stopped, just at the entrance of the alley, eyes narrowed down at her, still, she didn't stop.
It was only three streets down when her colliding with another body made her finally end her sprint. A scream escaped her lips, her head spinning around to catch a glimpse of that new danger towards her when arms caught her. Before she could raise her arm to punch whoever the person was she ran into her eyes fell on a familiar quiff of brown hair.
"Agnes!" the familiar voice of the Doctor greeted her.
The girl let out the biggest of relieved sighs, before throwing herself into his arms.
"Are you okay? What happened? Why were you running?" the Doctor questioned frantically, grasping at her shoulders to pull her away at a plausible distance to eye her.
Agnes saw Amy and Rory behind the Doctor, looking at her with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine..." she started but before she could tell him what happened he was already interrupting her again.
"What were you thinking? Walking off like that? Do you have any idea what could have happened?"
Agnes gaped at him.
"Says the right person, it was you who ran awa..."
"No excuses. you stick with me, alright? That's a rule now. Unless I say so you do not separate from me or..."
Agnes slapped his arm, calling his name in annoyance.
"What?" he asked loudly, rubbing his arm with a pout.
"I was almost harassed by some bloody lunatic and you're here scolding me," she complained.
The Doctor's face paled and he again grasped her shoulders turning her around to inspect her, comically moving his body left, right, up and down when he did so, shaking Agnes around. The girl grunted, not all too happy being thrown around like a rag doll.
"What lunatic? Did he hurt you?" Amy chimed in from behind the Doctor, stepping around so she could have a better look at the girl as well
Agnes let out a groan, swatting away the Doctor's arms impatiently.
"I am fine!" she told them, "It was just this vampire dude trying to get a bite and suck me dry. I kicked him and ran off, so everything is just dandy."
"You mean that guy? Really pompous outfit?" Amy questioned.
Agnes nodded.
"Yeah, that same guy that you and Rory saw sucking out that flower girl."
Rory frowned at Agnes.
"How do you know about that?"
Agnes didn't have to answer as the Doctor took it upon himself. He pointed an accusatory finger at her.
"Aha! So you do know this."
She frowned at him.
"Yeah, never denied that," she shrugged.
The Doctor eyed her, before grabbing her hand and pulling her away.
"Doctor," Amy shouted.
"I'll be right back."
The Doctor pulled Agnes through the streets of Venice, guiding her around corner and corner and the girl stumbled after him, glaring at the back of his head. "What are you doing?"
"Bringing you back to the Tardis," was his simple answer.
Agnes gaped at him, harshly pulling her arm out of his grip. "What? Why!" The Doctor grabbed her wrist this time and continued to pull her forward, not disturbed by her anger. "Because there are vampires in Venice and I can't worry about them and you."
"You don't have to..."
"You've already got lost and attacked by a vampire all in the matter of a few hours. You're still new to this and you've still not processed what is happening to you well enough to understand the lethality of this situation," he continued on.
They've now arrived in front of the Tardis, The Doctor's hand already reaching out for the handle when Agnes pulled him back. He looked at her expectantly.
"I didn't get lost. I saw you walking off and followed you but your Timelord legs were too fast for me. And I didn't get attacked by a vampire I almost did. Didn't you listen when I told you I've kicked him in his stupid knee and managed to get away?" she defended herself in hope to convince The Doctor to take her with him but when she stared into his eyes she saw there was pretty much no hope for that happening.
"Agnes, this is your first time with me. You've been here for a few hours tops. You're incredibly young," she pouted at his words "and at this age, you're stupidly stupidly reckless. I can't worry about you and deal with the situation at hand."
He opened the door and pulled her inside and up the stairs until they were at the control panel.
"That's not fair. You act like I'm a child who has to be watched. I am not!" she tried again.
"Yes, you are. Now be a good girl and do as you're told. You must be tired, just go to sleep. Amy, Rory and I will be back in a few hours," he promised, leaning forward to kiss her forehead but she pulled away from his grasp.
"I remember most of the episode, I could help, you know."
He rolled his eyes at her.
"Just stay here. Don't try anything and I know you're thinking about it. The Tardis won't let you leave, I'll lock the door."
And with a last glance towards her, he rushed back towards the door and pulled it close. She heard the sound of his sonic whirring and then it was quiet again.
Agnes stared after him, anger and frustration seeping into her at being the only one having to stay behind while everyone was having fun. Tears blurred her vision and she harshly wiped at her eyes.
"Bloody asshole," she cursed before letting herself fall back on the jumping chair.
If he actually thought she'd sleep like he to her to he didn't know her at all.
