Part Eight
After Xander announced he was glued to his seat Ms. Fletcher had the entire class leave the room not before some of the students took pictures, while she called the janitor in. Mr. Jones came in with his mop. "You faking this, boy, just to get out of class?" he asked as he poked Xander in his side with the end of the mop.
Xander jumped in surprise the chair coming with him.
Mr. Jones chuckled. "I haven't seen this prank in a few years. It's an oldie but a goody."
"Do you have anything that will un-glue me?" Xander asked trying not to snap. This was embarrassing enough, he didn't need the extra harassment.
"Nothing," Mr. Jones replied. "We'll have to do it the old fashioned way."
Xander has a bad feeling about this.He watched as Mr. Jones took a pair of scissors off of Ms. Fletcher's desk. "Hope you're not too attached of these clothes." He chuckled at his own joke.
"Wait!" Xander yelled holding his hands up. "Can you at least go to my locker first and get me my gym bag?"
"I have to get permission from Principal Snyder to do that and he ain't here today."
Was he being punked right now? "What am I supposed to do than?"
Mr, Jones started cutting the jeans on the left leg. "Run to your locker like a bat out of hell in your skivvies."
"You can't be serious. You have to do something," Xander said desperately. He had healing bruises on his stomach and back. A few more days and they'd be gone but they were still noticeable.
"I am," Mr. Jones replied. He paused as he concentrated with the scissors on the waist of the jeans. "I'm cutting off your clothes and freeing you like the hero I am. Then I'm going to go clean the johns in the locker rooms."
Xander didn't say another word.
After everyone was kicked out of the classroom Spike grabbed Larry by the arm and dragged him into an empty room. "That was too bloody far!"
Larry just laughed. "It was hilarious, dude! Besides Harris needs to be knocked down a peg. He thinks he's better than us."
That comment threw Spike for a loop. "In what world does Xander Harris think he's better than anyone? If you haven't noticed he doesn't have any friends." And it was true, he didn't have any friends. He did happen to have one drop dead gorgeous boyfriend.
"Believe me, I've known Harris longer than you. Now, lets go watch the show." Larry opened the door.
"What show?" Spike asked as he followed Larry. The hallway was crowded, people were pushing trying to get closer to the door. "What the bloody hell is going on?"
Larry unlocked his phone and opened up the camera putting it on video. "The janitor has to cut Harris's clothes off. His gym clothes are in his locker."
"Xander is going to have to come out in his knickers?" Spike asked. He saw more phones being pulled out. There had to be something he could do. He felt his lighter dig into his thigh. He'd quit smoking after his parents had caught him but he kept his zippo. He had a stupid idea.
"This is going to be the best day of my life," Larry told him. Xander always changed in into his gym clothes in a change room. What was he hiding under his clothes? He was about to find out.
Spike doubled over groaning gaining everyone's attention.
Harmony was by his side instantly. "What's wrong? Are you dying?"
"I don't know," Spike whimpered. "I think I need to go to the nurse." He stood up a little his hands on his side. "Show me the video after, will you? I don't want to miss it."
"Trust me, everyone will be seeing it," Larry promised.
It took Spike a minute to convince Harmony not to come with him. He made his way down the hall towards the nurses office before turning right near the janitors closet where there was a fire alarm. There was an entrance door near by so Spike's story would be believable. Now he just needed the entire school to evacuate before Xander left the classroom. He pulled out his phone and texted Xander hoping he had his phone near him. Get ready! He waited about fifteen seconds after he sent the message he covered his fingers with his shirt and pulled the fire alarm.
Girls started screaming from the loud ringing.
Spike still slightly bent over headed towards the exit along with others. He looked down the hall and saw the crowd diminishing. He saw Larry trying to say behind but the cheerleaders and other football players were forcing him out. Spike hoped he had done enough.
Xander's phone dinged with a notification. It was on the table beside him but could make out the two words. He had no idea what that meant. Get ready for what?
Just as Mr. Jones finished the last cut freeing Xander the fire alarm starting blaring. "Jesus Christ! It's finally happening. The school is burning down! My herbs! I need to save my herbs!" Mr. Jones left Xander sitting there as he all but ripped the door off the hinges to save his precious weed.
"What did you do, Spike?" Xander whispered to himself. With a deep breath stood up, his clothes still on the chair. He grabbed his phone and backpack before slowly making his way to the door. The hallway was empty. He ran down the hall, unlocked his locker and threw on his gym clothes in record time. Spike for the save.
Spike the genius is was went to the nurses office after they were allowed back into the school and laid down until lunch bell rang, then claimed to feel all better.
"You're not dead!" Was the first thing Harmony said when she saw Spike carrying his tray to their regular table.
"Not dead," Spike confirmed. "I had Chinese food that I left in my fridge from last weekend. I probably shouldn't have eaten it for breakfast." He sat down beside her. "So, any word on the fire alarm being pulled?"
Larry stabbed his food angrily, still upset that he didn't get to see Xander in his underwear. He wanted to know if he were boxers or briefs. "If I ever find out the asshole who pulled that alarm they are dead."
Spike wasn't worried. He could take Larry down easily. His eyes fell on Xander who was sitting at his regular table alone. He had his head rest on his left hand while he stared at his food. He then watch Xander bend over a grab his phone from his bag. A few seconds later Spike's phone was buzzing. He pulled his own phone out not surprised to see that Xander texted him.
'Thanks for the save today.'
'Wish I could have done more.'
'You did what you could while staying out of trouble. That's all I need. Sleepover tonight?'
It sometimes drove Spike crazy when Xander never complained about him never doing anything more. That he was so focused on how things were for Spike instead of himself.'These idiots are talking about going to the movies. I should probably go. I can meet you at my place when it's done.'
'Nah, I'll just go home. I should see if my parents noticed I was gone. Have fun.'
'Sleepover this weekend? There is a CSI marathon on.'
'I'll come over after my shift at the theater.'
"Who are you talking too?" Larry asked as he tried to grab Spike's phone from his hands but Spike was too fast.
Spike turned off his phone and stuck it in his pocket. "I'm making plans with your mum this weekend. It's none of your bloody business."
"Come on. Girlfriend? Boyfriend?" Larry pushed.
The entire table became interested in the questioning.
With a roll of his eyes Spike answered, "I'm texting my ex-boyfriendfrom London. We're still friends. Are you happy now?"
"Yes," Harmony replied before whispering something in Cordelia's ear making the girl roll her eyes. Harmony then leaned against Spike. "So there is no one you're interested in? Specifically this very school."
Spike had to fight from looking at Xander. "I am too busy trying to focus on graduating. Then I am off to L.A."
Harmony pouted. Why didn't Spike like her? She was pretty. She straightened her back becoming confident. Before graduation Spike would ask her out and she'd be living the life in L.A spending Spike's money. Spike would be the perfect sugar daddy. Harmony leaned her head against Spike's shoulder.
Xander got up to throw his garbage away. He had to stop any reaction he felt when he saw Harmony cozy up against Spike. At least Spike didn't look like he was happy about it but couldn't cause a scene. Spike liked him not Harmony. That was what was going to get Xander through all the other stuff.
