Part Fourteen

Note: If you haven't seen the movie Escape Room just a warning of not real spoilers but more of how I felt about the movie.

The first week of school went surprisingly well for Xander. Larry didn't even so much as look at Xander. If Xander was lucky he'd have some peace even for just awhile. Not one single person asked Xander what happened to his arm. The plaster was a blank canvas except for a small heart that Spike drew on Xander's palm. Now most people would think it was the saddest cast ever but to Xander it was the best.

Spike had a harder time than Xander. He honestly deserved an Oscar for his performance of being Larry's friend. Every time he saw Larry, Spike wanted to punch him in the face. While he was able to keep his cool he was asked a few times why his face was so red. Xander praised him for being able to hold back. Praised him for not punching the guy take assaulted him. Spike felt like throwing up.

It was finally Friday and both Xander and Spike were excited for their rendezvous. Spike was going to meet Xander at the backdoor just before midnight. Xander headed to the mall after school while Spike went home to pace like a caged tiger counting down until he could see Xander. He showered and changed is clothes multiple times. Was it weird that Spike was nervous? It wasn't like it was their first date. They knew practically everything about each other. Hell they all but lived together!

Spike eventually decided to just head over. The fresh air would help.

As soon as Xander locked the door behind the last customer he dashed across the entire cinema to get Spike. He pushed over the door and instantly had Spike clinging to him like an octopus. "I missed you too."

Spike buried his face into the crook of Xander's neck. He smelt of popcorn. "You smell delicious." His breathe tickling Xander's skin.

With a laugh Xander pulled away. "Thanks. Come on." He took Spike's hand and guided him to the counter where all the goodies were. Xander lead him around it so he was now behind the counter. "This is where I work."

Never having been behind the counter before Spike took a look. It was nothing impressive to Spike but how could he not love it? This was Xander's safe place before he came along. He ran his hand over the drink dispenser and popcorn maker. He saw there were a couple containers or nachos left over and could smell the cheese. There were also a couple hot dogs being kept warm.

Xander let him explore while he printed them out their tickets. It wasn't really necessary but Xander wanted them to have something physical to remember this. After grabbing the tickets he turned around to find Spike staring at him. "What?"

"That was hot," Spike answered.

"You are so weird," Xander commented as he handed Spike his ticket. "Let's grab some goodies then I'll get you sorted in the theater before going up to turn Escape Room on."

After getting their snacks they headed over to auditorium three and took the middle seats in the prime seating. Might as well take advantage of everything, right? Xander made sure Spike was settled in before dashing out of the auditorium. He bounded up the stairs to the projector room, hit a few switches, turned the lights down and was gone. The trailers would give him some time to get himself comfy before the movie started.

Spike had never been in a theater by himself before. It was kind of creepy. He looked around for moving shadows.

"Isn't this great?" Xander said plopping down beside Spike startling him.

"Bloody hell, Xan!" Spike jumped almost dumping the extra buttery popcorn. "Don't do that! It's creepy in here enough without you scaring me."

Xander bit his lip to stop from laughing at Spike. He never saw him jumpy before. So instead he leaned in and kissed the side of Spike's mouth. "Sorry, baby."

Spike's eyes widened. Xander never used pet names before. It was always Spike. "Baby?"

"Oh…" Xander blushed. "That was weird, wasn't it? I'm s-"

"Don't you dare apologize. I like it. I want to be called baby more often." Spike stuck his chin out leaving no room for doubt.

Xander took a sip of his orange soda because his mouth went dry. "Okay… baby." He was rewarded with a beaming smile and even though the only light they had was coming from the movie screen Xander could see Spike's eyes were shining. He would have started calling him baby sooner if he had known how happy it made him.

Escape Room was not a great movie. Xander had heard that but he liked to judge movies for himself. Both he and Spike had thought that the movie really was a game for a good part of the movie because all the deaths happened off screen except when it got closer to the end. How could they make a horror movie without letting the audience see some of the characters actually die? And they left it open for a sequel.

Even though the movie was bad it was the best night of Xander's life. Spike refused to let go of Xander's hand and moving his right had to try to reach the popcorn was near impossible Spike ended up hand feeding him. Rather than interrupting the movie to ask for more snacks Xander would lift up their arms and kiss the back of Spike's hand. How Spike was able to balance the popcorn on his lap without spilling it was a mystery to Xander.

They sat there for a while after the credits ended neither wanting to go back to the apartment yet.

"Thanks for this, Xan," Spike said. Both of them really needed this. "Once we're in L.A we're going to go out every weekend. Make up for all the times we had to stay hidden away."

"Don't hate on our hideaway! When you first said we'd be safe there I didn't believe you. I didn't think I'd ever really be safe, but you were right. If we were locked away in the apartment for the rest of our lives I would be happy."

Spike ran his thumb over Xander's bottom lip. "You're a soppy git."

"And you love it." Xander playfully bit Spike's thumb.

Spike dove in for a kiss. He loved when Xander was flirty.

Xander placed his hand on the nape of Spike's neck. Making out in theater seats wasn't the comfiest thing in the world but he'd never complain about a make out session with Spike. After twenty minutes he pulled away. "You head back home. I'll clean up and lock up before following you."

"Xan, it's after two in the morning. Come home with me now."

"Sorry, baby. I promised Bill that I'd have it all cleaned up before he came in." Xander stood up and stretched. "Now go. The sooner you leave the sooner I can leave."

"Or... we could go home together. Sunnydale is dead by this time anyways." Spike stood and wrapped his arms around Xander's waist. "Please?"

Xander nodded. "But only if we stick to the alleys."

Spike grabbed their garbage. "Let's getting cleaning."
