A/N: What do you guys think Kohaku will do? Do you think he will stay with the pack or do you think he will leave? Lets see what happens.
Enjoy!
Izumi drew in a sharp breath feeling a weight on her. Cracking open her lids she could smell her pack around her. Taking a deep breath she stopped wincing in pain.
Her torso hurt tremendously with the pain making it hard to breathe. Feeling a shift behind her she felt Sesshomaru nuzzle her with his snout. It was then she realized she was in her natural form.
Thinking back she remembered Rin talking with her. Closing her eyes she saw Rin walk outside with Hisashi in her arms, that was when she had smelt it…the boar demon.
It had charged Rin. She screamed and turned as Izumi hadn't even thought twice getting between the demon and Rin.
It had struck her, impaled her, and tossed her off to the side. She didn't remember anything else after that.
"Are you well?" Sesshomaru asked having transformed. Izumi did as well glancing back at him.
"I think I will be." She replied. Taking a stifled breath she placed her hand to her bandages. "It will just take some time. Rin and Hisashi, were not injured?"
"No." Glancing at Rin as she leaned against him asleep he closed his eyes. "This attack has left us in a precarious state."
"How so?"
"Kohaku is set on returning to the demon slayer village. Rin has been able to stall him thus far but feels as if she has failed in regards to the pups."
"And you?"
"This Sesshomaru apologizes to you, Lady Izumi. Your concerns for our pups safety were valid and I fell victim once again to my own hubris." He said.
"Kohaku and Rin are still so very young, they lack experience in matters. As I am the alpha they would have taken your warnings more seriously if this one had heeded them."
"These things, they happen. I will continue to put myself between them and harms way. I'll survive, they may not." Izumi stated.
"When our mates awake fully we will discuss the future of this pack." Sesshomaru replied.
"Agreed." Closing her eyes Izumi felt Kohakus hand resting on her hip. Taking it she squeezed gently.
Once Rin and Kohaku had woken up Rin cried hugging Izumi. She sobbed begging her forgiveness and asking her repeatedly if she had done a good job taking care of Hisashi.
Izumi assured her the best way she could her voice coming out soft as it still hurt to breathe. Sitting up Rin affixed her robe over her as Izumi shivered with a chill despite the warmth in the room.
Kohaku had asked if she were alright. She reassured him with a small smile holding onto his hand and not letting go. At the commotion Hisashi woke whimpering and yipping as she picked her son up to nuzzle him.
Rin held Hotaru tightly, Kohaku appeared as if he were ready to run away, and Sesshomaru sat beside Izumi on her futon.
"What happened is a reminder to all of us of the threats that are very real and prevalent no matter how strong or prosperous we are." Sesshomaru began. "Izumi, as I said before, your injuries are the result of my own ineptitude and this one apologizes."
"I don't hold anything against you or anyone else in our pack. I'm glad that everyone else is safe." She replied.
"Izumi, Kohaku wants to leave our pack." Rin blurted out with a fresh bout of tears threatening.
"I know." While Izumi still held his hand tightly he had his back turned to them. "Please, sit husband."
"Lady Izumi, please know that I will always love you." His voice was low and sounded not like him. Wrenching his hand from hers he walked out of the room.
"I-Kohaku!" Izumi called after him. Placing Hisashi down she stood holding her side.
"Izu! You're not well enough to stand." Rin said quickly standing as well.
"Kohaku!" She called again moving as fast she could out of the room holding onto the door frame to propel herself forward down to hall. He had already left.
Rushing for the door she flung it open to see him making his way briskly to the woods. "Kohaku!"
Turning he saw her fall to her knees shuddering as her legs gave out on her.
"Izumi." He whispered out running to her side. "You need to go back inside."
Clutching her torso she wrapped her arm around him as he knelt beside him. She panted in pain and began to weep.
"Don't leave me Kohaku." She managed out. "If not for me than our children. You promised, you said you would be here…don't go."
"My lady, I am not a good mate for you. Twice now you have been seriously injured and I have been unable to protect you." He replied.
"I would do it again, I will if I have to." She said. Backing up from him slowly she placed her forehead to his. His scar that he had sustained the year prior had healed appearing to be a Star burst between his eyes.
Kissing at it she hummed out. "They won't hurt you again."
"I can't stand to see you hurt Izu. It just…I see you…I keep seeing you on the ground, bleeding." Burying his face into her shoulder he shuddered. "Every time I close my eyes it changes. I see Sango dying at that mansion that haunts my nightmares, it's my fault. It's always my fault."
"Sweet boy." Izumi held him to her. "Help me protect our own. Help me to make sure that no one harms our pups the way that you were."
"I can't. I can't protect anyone. I'm not…"
"Just stay here, with me. It will be easier to stay than to leave." Izumi coddled him to her. "It's the darkness you told me about that takes over you. It's making you think things that aren't true."
Kohaku breathed deeply finally wrapping his arms gently around her waist.
"Lady Izumi." The soldier, Nen, said as he had been witness to the entire scene.
"Please bring Lord Kohaku to my chambers." She requested weakly.
"Yes, my lady." Nen moved to the deck grasping Kohaku up by an arm and swinging it over his shoulder. Without another word spoken he brought him inside.
Taking heavy breaths Izumi winced. Feeling an arm around her waist and draw her arm around shoulders she saw it was Sesshomaru.
"Thank you." Receiving a nod from Sesshomaru he assisted her into the house.
