Another chapter up. Really not planning anything in this fic yet, and instead making it up as I go, or according to whatever review I might get. Until then I will just use this story as a way to let out my creativity. My "Not like the Others" fic, is my main story as of now, that I will pour energy into. Thus, this will not be updated as frequently, unless it gains sudden traction from you. Enjoy!

Chapter 3: A Pairing

Ah, New Bark Town. Much more of a small country town than in the games. Absolutely beautiful little village with small roads almost chaining it all together. Very atypical to any place in my previous world. That much I know. And we are on our way to The Daycare. Which really wasn't in Newbark town in the games, so I am curious to see how it looks. Lyra is skipping along now too, with her Chikorita almost whistling along behind her. Such a joyful person, this Lyra.

Our 5-hour trip from Cherrygrove wasn't even that bad. We just talked about a lot of important and essential world information and really seemed to hit it off. She is so sweet. And helpful in allowing me to understand the world I have been placed in. No doubt I will own all of it eventually with my enormous knowledge of Pokémon that even eclipses Lyra´s.

Which is why I didn't even catch a Pokémon on the route. Well, that and I forgot to beg for a Pokéball at the Mart, so I wouldn't want to ask Lyra for one….

Either way the Pokémon there are nothing but weak and skittish, and while im sure I could make it work, I might aswell just wait to get a Totodile or a Cyndaquil from Professor Elm. Afterall my knowledge and determination should impress him so much that he willingly gift one to me. So far, I have spent my time caring and nursing for my Eevee. I call her Eve, as I learned her to be a female. All she really do is suckling on the bottle, and making small, cute sounds. Clearly a sign of being nervous. Both me and Lyra were good at petting and soothing her though, and while she was hesitant to the touch at first, she is now used to it after our walk. Clutching onto my chest while being kept warm by her green blanket, that I hold in my arms.

Poor thing, would never have found a trainer, being this fragile. No one would want to train her. Even if they force evolved her, it would take forever for her to be able to do any of the moves. Lyra even speculated in force evolution via Evolution Stones being cruelty, but I don't know nearly enough about this world to chime in on this. I thought I could find myself relatively out of the morality debate as I come from another world, and all I should care about in this one, is climbing the ladder. However, Eve have already turned that on its head, by being a sweety that I feel a fatherly responsibility towards. I probably used to be a good guy; I conclude.

I feel the same way towards Lyra already. Girl is just so innocent and happy; I can't help but feeling like she needs to be protected. I am willing to bet that she would already now put her life in my hands, despite of the fact that we have only known each other for half-a-day. I already get why her father was trying to keep her from traveling, I doubt she has the stomach for it. Sure, so far everyone have been nice, but we have also barely started. Really has me wondering if Team Rocket is gonna be a problem in this world. I hope not, I just want to be focusing on my Pokémon training. Gonna be hard with that perfect ass bouncing around in overalls infront of me... Lyra...Not the Chikorita.

Going straight to the daycare, I greet her parents. They look way too old to be her parents, but what do I know. They are sweet, and come off as some old-fashioned religious people to me. Wait, do religion even exist in this world?

Her mother give us some food, that I eat way too fast, all while participating in conversation about Pokémon. Mostly about the Eevee that is slowly consuming its own food on the floor. A mix of berries and Dog food? By the looks of it. While we get some potato dish. I try my best to come off as a nice guy, by praising it to no end and just agreeing with her parents in every random topic. Lyra overtakes much of the conversation anyway with her bubbly personality. Talking about me with much favor and enthusiasm.

Feels good.

Her father attempt to grab hold of Eve, so she can be put into the day-care, where Lyras mother will tend to her. However, the small creature slaloms away, while whining all scared. She reaches me and jumps up my leg for protection in clear panic, having everyone in the house fawn over her cuteness. I oblige her by taking her into my arms once more and put my cheek into her for comfort. Much like you would a dog-puppy in the real-world. I guess this is the real-world now….

"Eve, its okay, they will take care of you honey, I promise", I coo to her as she nuzzles my neck and purrs back as to disagree.

Her parents suggests that I sleep with Eve for the night, and then we slowly integrate her into the daycare tomorrow. I am well-fed and feel good about myself, so I thank them for the hospitality and take to the guest-bed. They give me some spare clothes too, how nice of them. Guess im gonna sleep here for the night, and then tomorrow I will go about persuading Elm into giving me a starter. However, just before I switch the light off and lay down with Eve, Lyra catches me in the hallway, looking very sheepish with her legs crossed. Hot Pyjama outfit on her too, full of stars. Symbolizes her personality perfectly.

"Hi, I just… Wanted to thank you for today... It has truly been the best day ive had in a long time… Not that everything is about me or anything, but-"

"Hey, I feel you. Best day I can remember having too… Extremely nice meeting you, Lyra, you are the sweetest person I have come across. Tomorrow we will take off, I just have to talk to Elm first"

I cut her off, as she is very capable of babbling for minutes at a time, and she seems extremely happy by my retort. I mean it too, she is a very nice girl, albeit a bit naïve in her outlook on things. A bit too trusting too, but so is her parents apparently. I am guessing she didn't have too many friends growing up, given how quickly she grew fond of me. I haven't really done anything out of the ordinary.

She blushes at my statement though, and surprisingly hugs me, before looking deep into my eyes with a crooked smile.

"Thank you, for everything… See you tomorrow!"

Hurrying out that last bit, she turns on her heels and goes to her room. What a girl.

"Now, Eve, let's get some sleep little one", I hum out to the small Eevee, before kissing her soft head. She sigh out in contempt, before dozing off. Eventful day for her too.

Rest of the night is just me thinking everything over, while Eve curls up into my neck and almost snores the rest of the night away. Eventually I do fall asleep though, only to be awaken up by Lyras mother knocking on my door telling me breakfast is ready.

I gently wake up Eve who slowly opens her eyes and roll unto her back, refusing to get up. I can't help but adore the display and decide on just wrapping her up in her blanket and carrying her with me downstairs. After getting dressed of course, can't just walk down there in my all-natural state, that would be a touch too forward.

We reach the nicely made table, to see a very sleepy Lyra, barely able to keep open her eyes, but still lighting up a bit at the sight of me. She looks so cute.

Getting through the usual morning routine of eating and getting ready, I thank her parents for everything. I am about to leave Eve, but she refuses it, so for now her parents decided on giving me a custom backpack in which to put all of Eves food. They say that I can always bring her to them at a later time.

Lyra summon her own Eevee, called Lucky, and we watch Lucky try to engage in playtime with Eve who would rather just stay in my arms. I hope she becomes are bit more active later on, but for now I think it is the best decision to just have her stay with me while she hopefully becomes bigger and sturdier. But seems like she is my Eevee for now. Great. Won't be able to battle though, so there goes that idea.

Me and Lyra, accompanied by Lucky and her Chikorita, named Trisha for some reason, go over to the Pokémon professors house.

Man these nicknames are gonna be tough, I already know it.

Carrying Eve is no problem for me right now, and she loves it in my arms, curled up into a ball while Lyras team leads the way.

We knock on the door, only to see a very skinny, stereotypical professor open up with a cocked eyebrow, clearly surprised to have visitors. Looks like I imagined him to, just a bit younger maybe, and arbitrarily more of a receding hair-line too.

"Yeah…. Oh Lyra! So good to see you again! And… You! Oh my"

Okay so he remembers the both of us great start.

Lyra gives him a hug, taking him off-guard, but I do believe it's just her thing. I however introduce myself as Nick Gold, once again having him show quite a few wrinkles on his forehead. He still invites us in for discussion though. Curious to know what I have discovered about my past, while I am eager to just thank him for treating me and showcasing my knowledge. I lie through my teeth about my origin, and while Lyra ate it up, he seems way more suspicious, and keeps eyeing me deep in thought.

However, this teatime wraps up with him believing that I am some street kid from Goldenrod who crashed on my bike and got Amnesia. Atleast he seems to accept that explanation. So, this is when Lyra decides to take over by bragging about her cool Chikorita and making the case for me to have one of the starters. I talk about my knowledge too to make the case, but Lyra is most favorable to me by talking about how I am doing with Eve, who Elm looks at with pure affection aswell, clearly impressed by me taking care of such an unfortunate member of its species.

"Maybe I would have contemplated giving you one of them….Gold… But both of them were stolen last night"

What? So! It is like the games. Only he took both of them. Which of course makes more sense than only stealing one. I am willing to bet it's a red-haired boy too, but no reason to reveal my knowledge about this. Instead I let Elm show both me and Lyra the footage he have from his camera, that shows a red-haired boy steal both PokéBalls. But on the footage, he first grabs hold of the ball, but it wont budge, so he summons a Golbat that rips apart the system, setting off the alarm, but also allowing him to grab both PokéBalls. The windows close down to imprison him, but the boy commands the Golbat to fire a Hyper Beam through the window before he escapes. Well I guess that explains the mess in this room.

"Professor, that is terrible news! Can't you find the boy?"

Elm then proceeds to explain that the boy is notoriously known as a criminal independent entity, known only as Silver. Okay, nice so he gets the name from the game. Of course it makes Elm look very weird at me, over the fact that I claim to be named Gold. I can see how it would seem weird, but could be purely curcumstancial. Heart of the matter is that the authority is out looking for this boy, but as consequence I get no starter…Bummer.

I just hope I don't run into Silver anytime soon…. A Golbat with Hyper Beam, and now Totodile and Cyndaquil, holy shit he is gonna be beefed up compared to the games.

"I don't mean to be inconsiderate Professor, but do you have anything else? Anything at all? A Pikachu or something would absolutely do", I ask him a bit cheeky, as I remind myself of Ash and Pickachu, even imagining something similar for myself.

Elm just watch me acutely instead. He looks suspicious somehow.

"No... Gold… Even if I did have some, I would have you spend time proving to me that you deserve to have one. Lyra have been proven this her whole life… You… Well, I don't know who you are. A couple of days ago, you didn't even know who you are…", He tells me honestly.

I understand him completely, I mean in his eyes I did just have Amnesia a couple of days ago, its natural of him to be suspicious of me.

"Okay, that's completely fair Professor", I nod to him, before turning my back to walk with Lyra, who looks worried between the two of us. Not understanding the reservation Elm is displaying towards me.

"Wait, don't you need a Pokéball for that Eevee?"

Elm stops me to ask, pointing at Eve who is sleeping in my arms. I don't know if this is a test, but I have full intent of treating it as such.

"I won't need it Professor, Eevee is too weak to battle any time soon, perhaps never. I will simply do my best to take care of her", I say with a serious tone, and unfaltering eye contact.

My reply have Lyra swooning, but more importantly Elm turns a smile upwards and nods.

"Nice to know, but if things turn dangerous for you and Lyra, it would be helpful to have a Pokéball for Eevee, so if you could hand me Eevee for a second please?"

Good point there, having me oblige instantly. However, Eve refuses contact with Elm and crawls further up my body to get away, thus Elm politely asks me to place her on the machine next to him. I do so, and with Elm placing a Pokéball next to it, he takes but a second to register her into the Pokéball, and hand it to me, though Eve is still out so I have to scoop her up aswell.

"Congratulations Gold, you are now officially a Pokémon trainer. Only thing left, is to set up your PokéDex and information"

Now, setting up my PokéDex info proved quite a challenge as I had to lie about a lot of things, and though I told everyone I was from Goldenrod, I had Elm set it to Newbark, earning me looks from both him and Lyra. Also it was clear how the Professor barely ever set up people information, as most if not everyone already had been registered while they were kids. I however am new in this world, but I couldn't tell anyone that. It's too strange.

Lyra is weirded out by my information too, but doesn't say anything, only lay her hand sweetly on my shoulder once we are done. A supporting gesture. I receive PokéBalls, and then we are off to a great adventure. Or so I thought, but once again Elm stops us.

"Oh Lyra! I almost forgot, now that you are here you might as well take this egg. You see, it contains a Togepi. A future Fairy and Flying Pokémon, but it needs to be walked with in order to hatch. We don't really know which region it comes from, and I have been tasked with having a young and bright person evolve it, so we learn more about it. This very important task, now sits with you my dear"

Nice, Lyra gets a Togepi…. I would have liked that, even if we have to spend time hatching it first. Now, Lyra already told me that they know of the other regions and stuff, so I did kind of imagine that the Professor already knew about Togepi. Having me wonder if he would still have us deliver it to Mr. Pokémon like in the game, but seems we skip that in this world. Truly a lot of differences to both the Animé and the Games. Great.

She is of course full of jubilations and can't hide her emotion from being chosen to carry the egg. Unbeknownst to her I am already planning on a way to weasel that Egg over to my side. A Togepi is a great Pokémon and one I often used in my playthroughs, so I am gonna do what I can to have it attach itself to me once it pops out of that egg. For now I just congratulate her though, and then we are ready to take off. Short goodbye to Elm, and that should do it for Newbark Town.

"Okay! Gold, I guess we are really on our own now! This is so exciting, what should we do first?", Lyra babbles into my ear before we even step our foot into the route.

"Walk till we see anything we wanna catch?" I reason to her big smiling face, who looks almost confused before nodding and then running infront of me, with Lucky and Trisha giggling behind her. Well Pokémon giggling, so just small, cute sounds, while I cling on to sweet little Eve, looking at them with wide eyes.

No running with her in my arms, not that I feel like doing so anyway.

She was rather subdued back when we walked here the first time, but she also just met me. Now we have been acquaintances for a day and are embarking on this journey together. Guess she is letting loose now.

"Hey Gold, Hey! Look here! What about this Rattata? It looks bigger than the usual Rattatas? Don't ya want it? You need a Pokémon now that you are a Pokémon trainer, so you wanna catch it, huh?"

Fuck this is gonna be a long journey….

Thanks for reading! Updates will be slow, as this story aint a priority for me, though if I suddenly get a good idea, I will use it. Feel free to share you own ideas with me, and I will think about it. Review, Fave, Follow.
