Wolfie: I do not own anything related to Yu-Gi-Oh, just my oc and all alterations I make to the plot to add her in. I'm sorry the last chapter was so long, I guess I got carried away with the details. And yes I am continuing onto this chapter with what should've been in chapter 26 but I didn't think you'd appreciate another 10,000+ chapter like chapter 8 ended up being. Anyways please read, review, and I hope you like this book so far.
Chapter 27: Double Trouble Duel: Part 1
"What a jerk." Tea commented as her, Yuki, Yugi, and Bakura watched as Bandit Keith and his flunkies disappeared down the dark cave tunnel.
"Yeah..." Yuki muttered in agreement, that guy honestly makes Seto seem like a big cuddly teddy bear in comparison.
"Guys, look. I'm really sorry." Joey said as he walked over to them after collecting all of his stuff from the duel arena. "I didn't mean to drag you all into this mess." He said as it was his fault that they had to come looking for him instead of finding a duel for Yuki.
"Next time, don't be in such a big hurry to run off on your own." Tristan chastised slightly causing Joey to close his eyes and laugh sheepishly as he scratched at the back of his head.
"Nah, it's fine, man. We all know it wasn't your fault, Joey." Yuki said reassuringly with a smile, after all it's not like he willingly came into this cave.
"Yeah. I mean, as long as he won the duel, we can forgive him." Tristan said with a wink, there was no way they could stay mad at Joey for something like this.
"Even though we had to come looking for you in a cave." Yugi added as he was munching on a candy bar that he had pulled out of his backpack.
"I admit you had us worried at first." Tea said, though that was probably not something Joey wanted to hear after just barely winning the duel.
"But you really came through this time." Bakura said as an add-on to what Tea said as both of them were smiling.
"I got lucky, that's all." Joey said dismissively with a closed eyed grin whilst rubbing at the underside of his nose with the back of his pointer finger.
"Don't sell yourself short like that. It wasn't luck, Joey." Yuki said causing Joey to open his eyes and look at her as he hummed in question. "It was your determination, your trust in your cards, and the promise you made to your little sister. That's what helped you win this duel." She explained, sure maybe luck had a hand in it when it came to getting the right cards when he needed them but then it was only a miniscule bit of help.
"Hee hee hee hee." Joey laughed happily with another closed eyed grin before looking down at his star chips. 'I only need 2 more star chips. Hang in there, Serenity.' He thought with a small smile as he had won four more star chips from Bonz, giving him 8 in total.
"So, now can we get out of this creepy pit?" Tea asked, technically though it was a cave and not a pit but either way it still gave her the heebie-jeebies.
"You bet." Tristan said as it was high time they left the cave and found a duel for Yuki so she can get more star chips.
"Nothing's gonna stop us now!" Joey said as they all started to walk back up the tunnel to the entrance with him at the head of the group.
As they got close to the cave entrance they all stopped and either gasped or exclaimed something happily upon seeing the sunlight that was pooling in from outside. That meant there was still hours to burn and enough time to get the remaining star chips they needed to enter the castle. The entire group began to run towards the daylight, panting as they ran as they inched closer and closer to the wilderness outside. Though from outside there was a rumbling and they all stopped in shock as something began to block not only the sunlight but the entrance as well! Outside the cave stood Bandit Keith supervising with his arms crossed as Bonz, Sid, and Zygor pushed a very large and very real boulder infront of the cave entrance. The blonde sunglasses wearing male laughing maniacally about how they'd be stuck in their for life. Bonz, Sid, and Zygor grunting and pushing as soon the boulder was pushed into place, completely blocking the entrance with no chance of anything getting out. Then to make matter's worse for the other three completely exhausted males he told them they had to have a little talk, but it wasn't a normal talk.
Much to Bonz and Sid's shock they watch as Zygor got pummeled into a pulp by Bandit Keith and got his star chips taken. The blonde sunglasses wearing male infuriated about how the shorter male had lost as he was the one to be pummeled into a pulp for his star chips. And Sid, in hopes of not getting hurt himself, just sobbed and willingly handed over all of his star chips. Making Bandit Keith very happy that he now has ten star chips, despite this not being the way that he wanted to get them as he walked away. Leaving behind a winded and disoriented Bonz and Zygor whilst Sid was just laying on the ground for his own protection. Not wanting to become Bandit Keith's next victim, not after seeing what he did to Bonz and Zygor to get their star chips. He felt much safer on the ground and out of the way as he heard Zygor whimpering about how he hates it when Bandit Keith gets like this. Back inside the cave Joey and the other's were now pushing against the boulder from the inside, trying to get it to move but it wouldn't budge.
"This thing weighs a ton! I can't even get it to budge." Joey said as they all still continued to try and push the boulder out of the way.
"Or maybe it's cause you're just not strong enough?" Yuki suggested as she stood in between Joey and Tristan as they pushed on the boulder.
"Push harder! Come on!" Tristan encouraged as only five of them were pushing on the boulder as Yugi sat behind them, watching them and eating a bag of chips.
"Are we really trapped in here?" Tea asked over all of their grunting and groaning that was caused by trying to make the boulder move.
After a while of pushing on the boulder Bakura and Tea gave up trying as all it was doing was hurting their limbs. The two of them watching alongside Yugi as Yuki, Joey, and Tristan wouldn't give up on trying to move the boulder just yet though. They were sweating and putting their bodies through unnecessary strain yet they still continued to try and move the boulder. As far as they knew this was the only way in and out of the cave, and they weren't about to stay trapped in here forever. Yuki has to save her Grandpa from Pegasus and Joey has to get the prize money to save his sister's eyesight. Which means they can't afford to stay trapped in a cave, not when they are so close to achieving their goal of getting into the castle. They had come too far and had worked too hard to have something like this stop them, but Bakura and Tea were worried they'd hurt themselves if they didn't stop. After all if the boulder won't move then they should stop wasting time with trying to move it and should look for another way out, right?
"This thing ain't budgin', boys and girls." Joey said as he stopped pushing with his shoulder in order to turn towards the three people in their group that weren't helping push. "Looks like we're trapped." He stated as Yuki and Tristan followed his lead as they stopped pushing as well.
"Come on. There's got to be another way out of this place." Tristan said since this seemed to be a man-made island, which means this had to be a man made cave with multiple exits and entrances.
"But these tunnels run everywhere. We could be lost down here forever!" Tea exclaimed as she was not in the mood to get lost in some dark cave that's full of skeletons and boobytraps.
"Forever?" Tristan asked only for them to watch in shock as Bakura held up his Millenium Ring as he turned and began to walk back the way they just came from.
"Huh? Bakura?" Tea asked in confusion as the albino male continued to silently walk down the tunnel.
"Hey! Bakura? What gives?" Joey asked as Bakura turned to the right as he stopped walking, standing infront of a branching off tunnel.
"It seems my Millennium Ring is tugging me in this direction." Bakura explained as the other's walked over to stand with him infront of the branching off tunnel.
"Why?" Tea asked whilst Joey just hummed in question but none of them really questioned Bakura about the whole magical ring thing.
"Well, Yuki and I think that my Millennium Ring can detect other Millennium Items and that it's been honing in on Pegasus's Millennium Eye." Bakura explained whilst walking down the branching off tunnel as the other's silently followed behind him.
"Which means that his ring could be leading us right to the castle." Yuki said as an add on to Bakura's explanation about what his Millennium Ring was doing.
Once again without them knowing it Pegasus was watching them on a big screen from the comfort of his dining room. The silver haired male laughing and taking a sip of his wine as he heard Joey's comment about wanting to get his hands on him. Pegasus referring to the live feed as a show that he loves before switching to "dungeon TV". The video feed switching to a forlorn Mokuba sitting in a tiny cell, shackles on his ankles that led to shirt chains attached to the wall he was leaning against. Pegasus, being the sadistic man that he is, couldn't help but laugh at the pitiful sight that was Mokuba Kaiba all alone in a dungeon cell. And despite how sad the youngest Kaiba sibling was as he sat in that dungeon cell, he was still hopeful that his brother would come for him like always. The small ravenette pulling out a Duel Monsters card locket from inside his shirt and opened it, staring sadly at the picture of his brother when he was younger. Mokuba knows his brother, and him being locked up won't stop Seto from defeating Pegasus as he groaned and held the locket close to his chest.
Back inside the cave as he group followed the Millennium Ring they noticed how the tunnel turned from a cave to a corridor made of blocks of stone. Almost like they were walking through an underground stone maze as Joey was impatient, asking if they were getting anywhere. To make things worse it seemed like they had been walking forever and everything looked the same now it was hard to tell if they were making progress or not. Tea's immediate conclusion to the fact that things seemed to be man made was that someone was living down here. As they turned a corner there was a light at the end of the hallway whilst Joey assumed that whoever lived down here had to be mole people. After all they've never heard of a normal person choosing to live underground on an island owned by Maximillion Pegasus of all people. Yuki also noticed the many corridors that were branching off from this one hallway, which means there are an infinite amount of ways to go. However the ring was still leading the way as Bakura quickly ran down a corridor that was to the right of them.
"Follow me. The ring is pulling me this way." Bakura said as he ran causing the others to quickly try and catch up with him.
"Well, tell it to pull slower." Joey said as him and the other's were barely able to follow Bakura as he turned down another corridor.
"Bakura, what's wrong?" Yuki asked as they had followed Bakura down another corridor and had seen him stop at an opening to a room. "Why'd you stop?" She asked as her and Joey came to a stop next to the albino male as the middle spike on his ring was pointing towards the room infront of them.
All of them gasping in shock though as they got a good look at the room, seeing that it was a large room. In the middle of it was a large dueling arena with four terminals that had a set of steps leading to it. Behind it was what looked like a window with intricate designs and a door on either side, one with a blue symbol on it and the other with a green one. It was obviously an arena designed for tag team duels and the doors were probably the only ways out aside from going back the way they came. Out of nowhere two voices began to speak some sort of monologue that they must've practiced over and over for an occasion like this one. Two bald men, one in orange and one in green, flipping in to view and doing Kung Fu moves and sorta fighting one another. Flipping and spinning in the air as they spoke whilst the group of six watches them with deadpan expressions on their faces. Continuing to watch as the two men, who were obviously twins, landed on the ground and Kung Fu posed side by side. The two of them having a symbol on their forehead that matched the one on the doors as they said they were the brothers ParaDox.
"Employed by Pegasus as eliminators..." Para said, revealing that they were the same as Panik.
"...To take all your star chip indicators." Dox continued as Yuki's eyes widened slightly as this meant they were going to duel her.
"You gotta duel these goons, Yuki?" Joey asked also assuming that Yuki would have to duel these guys just like she did.
"And if by some crazy fluke you manage to win..." Para stated with a smirk before trailing off just like he had before.
"...Why, then, a puzzling new test shall begin." Dox said, finishing his brother's sentence yet again as he had an identical smirk on his face.
"For over my shoulder, you see a door." Para said as he was talking about the door with the blue symbol on it. "And over my brother's, you'll see..." He trailed off in order to let Dox finish the sentence about the other door for him.
"...One door more." Dox said as he was talking about the door with the green symbol on it.
"The test? A choice..." Para stated as he pulled yet another Kung Fu pose with the hand that held his dueling glove.
"...That you must make." Dox said as he did the same pose with his opposite hand that did not hold a dueling glove.
"Which of these doors will you take?" Para and Dox asked at the same time as they did a set of poses that ended with them both pointing at their doors with two fingers.
"Huh?" Joey hummed in confusion, not only would there have to be a duel but a test as well?
"One door leads to an endless maze..." Para revealed as this made the group of six focus their attention on the two doors.
"...Where you will wander all your days." Dox declared which meant they'd be stuck down here forever if they chose the wrong door.
"The other door's the path you need." Para said as the group was still focused on the two doors for now.
"Choose correctly and be freed." Dox said cryptically, after all how free would they be if they chose the correct door.
"But which door leads out..." Para said as Yuki and the others slowly turned their attention back to him and his brother.
"...And which leads to woe?" Dox asked as him and his brother had changed to be in a different Kung Fu-looking pose by now.
"That's for you to guess..." Para said as him and his brother continued to have identical creepy smirks on their faces.
"...And for the brother's ParaDox to know." Dox finished as by now the group had figured out what the cryptic sentence finishing brother's were telling them.
"So even if Yuki wins this match, we could still end up lost in those caves forever?" Tea asked in frustration, a frown on her face and her eyebrows furrowed in frustration.
"Against us, one mere duelist would be creamed." Para said making it all the more obvious that this was not a two against one duel.
"So you must duel as a team." Dox stated as him and his brother saw two dueling gloves which means there were two eligible duelists standing before them.
"Two on two?" Bakura asked just to clarify if that is what Para and Dox were talking about.
"Like a tag team?" Joey asked, wondering if it would be like tag teaming in wrestling where one partner fights and then taps the other in when they need a break
"I never heard of anyone dueling like that." Tristan admitted since this would be the first time in the history of tournaments that he's heard of a tag team duel.
"Who cares if you've never heard of it." Yugi said before sticking his tongue out at Tristan when said male looked at him in annoyance.
"Yugi be nice." Yuki scolded as her little brother mumbled an apology to her but didn't say anything to Tristan. "I haven't either, but their not giving us much of a choice here." She said as her eyes narrowed as her Millennium Puzzle glowed, transforming her into Yami Yuki in a bright flash of light. "Tag team it is then." Yami Yuki said with a smile, exuding power and grace as she took a step towards the two brothers. "And Joey, I'd be honored if you would duel with me." She said as said blonde had come to stand next to her with a smile on his face as well.
"You got it, Yu." Joey said and even though he was the only duelist here with star chips he was still happy that Yami Yuki chose him to duel with her. "All right, youse brothers ParaDox. Me and Yuki are gonna clean your clocks." He said as the four of them went to their designated parts of the duel arena.
"Prepare to be puzzled." Para stated as he stood opposite Joey on the red side of the duel arena.
"Prepare to be fooled." Dox said as he stood opposite of Yami Yuki also on the red side of the field.
"Prepare to be baffled, for on this field we rule." Para and Dox said together once again much to the annoyance of Joey.
"I'm gonna baffle the two of them if they don't stop rhyming." Joey said with an annoyed scowl on his face, all of this rhyming was hurting his brain.
"Enough of your quips." Para said with a laugh, obviously finding what Joey said to be funny.
"Yes, time to wager star chips." Dox stated as it was time to stop wasting and get the duel started.
"I'll throw down two." Joey said with a scoff as he put down two of his star chips.
"And four more, to make a total of six." Yami Yuki said as she expertly held up four star chips in the spaces between her fingers.
"Agreed." Para and Dox said at the same time as one put down two star chips whilst the other put down four.
"Welp, this is it Joey. If we win this then we'll both have ten star chips, and then we can enter the castle and whoop Pegasus's ass." Yami Yuki said as she looked at Joey out of the corner of her eyes as she spoke.
"Right." Joey said in agreement, confident that if they watched each other's backs then they'd win no problem.
"Ha ha ha! You fool! That's why Pegasus pays my brother and me..." Para said with a laugh, finding it amusing that they thought they could win when they don't know what's in store for them.
"...To keep you from achieving victory." Dox said as he knew Pegasus would not pay him and his brother if they couldn't do their job's correctly.
"Ok, guys. Teamwork from here on out." Tea said although that much was obvious to the two duelists that she was talking to.
"Right! We'll be the team, you do the work." Tristan said only to have Yugi kick him in the shin after he said that.
"That's not what teamwork is, idiot." Yugi said before Yami Yuki looked at them over her shoulder with a stare that stopped the argument before it even started. "Go big sis!... And you too Joey!" He said having gotten over the stare much faster that Tristan had, waving around a Yuki and Joey banner he pulled from somewhere...
"Good luck!" Bakura said as it seemed like the appropriate thing to say, seeing as this is their first tag team duel.
"Quiet, fools. Time to duel." Para and Dox said as they would never get the duel started if there kept being interruptions from the unwanted audience.
"First turn honors are mine. Labyrinth Wall." Dox said as he did wild and probably unnecessary hand gestures as he chose the card he wished to play, obviously never hearing of ladies first.
'Huh? Why'd he decide to play that card? It doesn't have any attack points.' Yami Yuki thought as she watched the card be put in play as Dox chuckled and his smirk grew wider as the arena floor glowed brightly.
"What's that?" Bakura asked as he was the first to notice that the dueling arena floor waa changing.
"What what's what?" Yugi asked as he hadn't really noticed it yet but Tea and Tristan did.
"Look, the floor!" Tristan exclaimed as Yugi finally noticed that something was coming up from the floor. "Something's coming out of it!" He said as him and the others watched as a single stone wall started to rise up from the floor. "Strike that. A whole bunch of things are coming out of it." Tristan said as more stone walls appeared until they formed an entire stone maze.
"A maze? Seriously?" Yami Yuki asked, it's his first move and Dox actually decides to build a maze?
"Quite right, and unless you can navigate it correctly, you'll be lost in its passageways forever." Dox said, basically saying the same threat that him and his brother used about what'll happen if they chose the wrong door to go through.
"Now! No more questions. No more stalls. Make your move, the labyrinth calls." Para and Dox said together as they did another pose with their hands.
Meanwhile Seto was walking down a dirt path through the forest, briefcase in hand and the tail of his trenchcoat flowing behind him. As he walked he thought about how he was going to make Pegasus pay for all of the pain and suffering he put him and his brother through. Still deep in thought the cobalt eyed male stopped walking and held up his Duel Monsters card locket that was identical to Mokuba's. Opening it to reveal the picture of his little brother when they were younger and had been playing chess together at the orphanage. During those days he didn't have to worry about his little brother being kidnapped, those had been much simpler and happier times. With one final look at the picture of a younger Mokuba, Seto shut the locket and let it hang down around his mid chest once again as he continued to walk. Soon Pegasus will know that nothing will stop him from getting his little brother back... Back inside the cave Yami Yuki and Joey had yet to make any kind of move. Which was making Para a very impatient man, because it's not like him and his brother are getting paid by the hour here.
"Make your move! Go!" Para ordered, showing just how impatient he was becoming.
"Now! Now! Go!" Dox said, also becoming impatient as him and his brother's voices began to overlap.
"Hold your horses already! We don't even know how this tag team thing works." Joey said, after all he doesn't know if Yami Yuki and him share a turn or have seperate ones, or if he can only attack Para and Yami Yuki can only attack Dox.
"It's simple. We all start with 2,00 life points like any duel." Dox began to explain, starting with the simplest thing first which is life points.
Para: 2,000 Dox: 2,000 Joey: 2,000 Yuki: 2,000
"However, if just one duelist loses those 2,000 points, then his or her teammate loses with them." Dox said, managing to achieve a level of political correctness that Pegasus obviously could not at the beginning of the tournament.
'Man. Yuki's puttin' a lot of faith in me. I can't let her down.' Joey thought as he looked at Yami Yuki, knowing that she was counting on him to help her win.
"The players on each team will alternate turns with every passing round. It is simple. I will play, then Yuki, then my brother, then Joey, then back to me." Para explained, even though technically his brother had been the one to go first when he played Labyrinth Wall. "Now, as for the actual game play in the labyrinth arena, it, too, is quite simple. All monsters you summon during this match will act like pieces on a game board. As for moving, each monster can move the number of spaces equal to its power level." He said which meant the monsters could only move as many spaces as they have power level stars. "And while your game pieces are moving, ours will be moving, too." Para said with a small laugh as this wouldn't be a normal "find your way through the maze" challenge.
'Ugh, he probably got some creepy mental image and that's why he laughed. Sick bastard...' Yami Yuki thought as she scrunched up her nose in annoyance and in the back of her mind she heard a deep chuckle that she knew belonged to Yami.
"Finally, if you somehow manage to get past our creatures and find your way through the maze, your reward will be a choice of two doors." Para said as Yami Yuki and Joey noticed that there were little mock doors on Para and Dox's terminals that have the same symbols as the real ones.
"Hmm." Yami Yuki hummed slightly as she frowned, seems these two were very obsessed with choices involving doors.
"Select the correct door, and find the path to freedom and fresh air." Dox said but that was just him refrazing what he had said about the doors before the duel started.
"Select the wrong door, and find only despair." Para said as he also was just refrazing what had been previously said about the doors.
"Aah! I've had just about enough of all your lame-brain rhymin'." Joey snapped with a yell of frustration as he vigorously shook his head from side to side. "And what do ya mean, one door leads to despair? That's not fair." He said, managing to make a rhyme of his own ever if it was on accident as the brothers ParaDox grinned.
"Ok, then." Para and Dox said at the same time, obviously taking great pleasure in doing this.
"We'll give you a clue." Para stated as he held up a singular finger as he spoke. "While everything one of us tells you shall be true..." He said as he put down his hand, obviously not going to say anything more about this.
"...The other will speak nothing but lies to you." Dox said and despite the fact that this was a clue it left the group of six with even more questions than answers.
'Truth and lies? What the actual fuck are these two Looney Tunes talking about?' Yami Yuki thought curiously as her eyebrows furrowed slightly, but the change was barely noticeable.
"So you see, it is quite simple." Para said even though he knew that this would be the exact opposite of simple.
"To learn which of the two doors is the right door..." Dox stated, him and his brother obviously having decided to give more context to what they were talking about.
"...You have only to ask, nothing more." Para concluded with a laugh, making it seem like the only way to know the truth is to ask for it.
"Now hold on just a damn minute there." Yami Yuki suddenly said causing Para to hum in question as to why she suddenly spoke. "What if you two are being total snakes in the grass and are lying to me right now?" She asked curiously as she gazed at the two brothers that stood before her.
"No, I never lie." Dox said before Para could say anything as Yami Yuki simply hums at this.
"Don't be fooled! My door is most certainly the door that will guarantee you're freed." Para promised even though Yami Yuki didn't mention anything about the doors in her question about if they were both lying.
"Liar! Mine is the door that'll grant safe passage, if they'd only heed." Dox said, now he was also talking about his door even though that's not what Yami Yuki asked about.
'Wait a sec. This sounds like an old riddle I know. Sure, the liar, the truth teller, the choosing between two directions... But how'd the rest of it go?' Joey thought as he closed his eyes and pressed a finger to his forehead, trying to make himself remember the rest of the riddle. "Hey, Yuki, I think I know this riddle." He said causing the heterochromic eyed female to glance at him, giving him her attention for the moment. "It starts with a fork in the road. Check this out. There's this kid trying to get to the village of truth-tellers. Thing is, there's a village of liars right next to it. The kid doesn't know which way to go, so he asks a villager for directions." Joey said as Yami Yuki listened and tried to pick apart the rambling that is coming from her friend.
'This seems like an awfully long story for a riddle...' Yami Yuki though, not wanting to say anything because she knows Joey is just trying to help.
"But he doesn't know if this villager's from Truthville or Liarsberg." Joey said as he continued to try and explain the riddle to Yami Yuki. "So, the villager guy says he'll answer one question, and that's the riddle. What should the kid ask to get to Truthville?" He asked but it was a rhetorical question and the blonde male obviously didn't expect an answer. "So, the kid asks the guy to take him to his own village. Cause a truthful guy would have to take him to the village of truth, on account of being truthful, and a lair would have to take him to the village of truth, too, cause that'd be lyin'." Joey reasoned because a liar would say the same thing a truth teller would to cover up their own truth. "So, first we gotta find out which one of you tells the truth." He deduced now that he finished explaining the riddle to Yami Yuki and the others.
"Then proceed." Dox stated as him and his brother had been surprisingly patient with Joey and his long story.
"In fact, we'll allow you each one question." Para said, having decided that it would be fun to take inspiration from the riddle that had just been explained.
"Ok, like the kid in the riddle asked the guy to show him his village, all I have to do is ask you to show me your door." Joey said with a smile as he pointed his finger, feeling like he was on a roll with the riddle and finding out the truth. "So both of ya, show me the door that your guardin'." He said as he pointed at both of the brother's whilst Yami Yuki turned her head in order to have a better view of her friend. 'Ha! Now the truthful guy'll have to point to his own door, and they liar will have to point to the other guy's door.' Joey thought with a grin, watching as Para and Dox both raised a finger before silently pointing at Dox's fake door on his dueling terminal. "Bingo!" He exclaimed with a giddy laugh as the others were shocked whilst the bearer of the Millennium Puzzle was uncertain of this answer. "Worked like a charm." Joey celebrated as he smirked, happy to have figured that out all on his own. "Para's the lair, Dox tells the truth. Now Yuki just has to ask Dox which door leads out of here and we're set." He said but said female honestly had different plans.
'That seemed a little too easy for my liking.' Yami Yuki thought as she crossed her arms slightly, there was just something about this whole thing that seemed fishy to her.
"Yo, Yu. How about a little somethin' for the effort, here?" Joey asked as he looked at Yami Yuki when he noticed she wasn't backing him up by asking the question he suggested.
"I hate to disappoint you and cut your celebration short, Joey, but I don't think we're out of the woods with this riddle just yet." Yami Yuki explained, not wanting this to end with Joey thinking he did something wrong and that they were still stuck because of him. "In fact, I think we're being led down the wrong path ourselves, so to speak." She said as she looked at the brother's ParaDox as they continued to point at the fake door on Dox's duel terminal.
"But I told ya, Yu. I heard this one before." Joey protested, there was no way he could be wrong about this!
"True, your riddle does have details that are similar to the ones of our current situation, but there are key differences as well." Yami Yuki said as this was not entirely like the riddle that Joey had spent the past five minutes explaining to them. "And trust me on this, Joey, those key differences change everything about the nature of this problem." She said since this wouldn't be as straightforward and easy as the blonde male thought it would be.
"Huh?" Joey hummed in question, not quite understanding what Yami Yuki was talking about just yet.
"In the riddle you spoke of there was only one villager at the crossroads to question, but with our situation, we have two, Para and Dox." Yami Yuki said as that was the first of the key differences that discredited Joey's previous plan of finding the truth via questions. "Now, both of these shady bald headed weirdo's have told us the exact same thing. One of them will speak nothing but the absolute truth, and the other one will speak nothing but lies." She said as she deliberately called them shady to make it clear she doesn't trust what they say at all. "However there's quite the apparent problem with this already." Yami Yuki stated as it was clearly time to debunk this once and for all.
"Ugh." Para and Dox both groaned in annoyance, they had liked it better when she was silent and was allowing her friend to believe them...
"Because if they were, as they had said, one truth-teller and the other a lying liar, the one who lies could never admit it. After all, if he did that then he'd be telling the truth." Yami Yuki said as her eyes narrowed as she spoke, she was onto Para and Dox's little charade. "Which means the only way the both of them could make that statement is if they were both lying. And that, Joey, means we can't trust Para, Dox, or that riddle of theirs." She explained as the moral of this is that things in life don't come easy, they can't just ask someone and expect to get a truthful answer.
"Wow. My brain hurts." Joey uttered, and here he thought he did good by figuring out that riddle and by getting an answer out of Para and Dox.
"Don't worry too much about it, Joey. That riddle was just their way of trying to throw us off course. Let's get this duel started now, we can worry about the door dilemma later." Yami Yuki said with a smile, glad to have gotten that situation dealt with and out of the way.
"Nice call, Yu. I do all my best problem solving on the field anyways." Joey said as a way to hopefully play off the fact that if it weren't for Yami Yuki he might've made a big mistake because of that riddle.
"Now, let's kick their asses and win this duel." Yami Yuki stated as it was high time these brother's ParaDox were defeated an down six star chips. 'I'll have to be careful about my movements. I've never played a duel ona labyrinth field...' She thought as she chose a card, holding it up as she looked at it for a moment. "I'll go first, by playing my Beaver Warrior." Yami Yuki said as a small rat sized version of her Beaver Warrior appeared on the field with 1,200 attack and 1,500 defense points.
"A good choice. A rat for a maze." Para commented with an amused tone, enjoying the fact that the first monster played was basically a rat.
"But his time's running out. This is the last of his days." Dox stated, already threatening the destruction of Yami Yuki's monsters when all he's played himself is the Labyrinth Wall.
"Well we'll just see about that, won't we? Beaver, four spaces forward into the maze, one for each level point you have." Yami Yuki said as her Beaver Warrior obeyed and walked forward, stopping on the fourth space where he was only two spaces away from the maze entrance.
"Ha ha ha ha! Four spaces, and you're already in too far." Dox declared with a laugh as if that was a bad move for Yami Yuki to make when there are no other monsters on the field yet.
"Now it's my turn, and I am merging Shadow Ghoul into the Labyrinth Wall itself by means of Polymerization." Para said as he played those cards, Yami Yuki watching and wondering as she saw a shadow quickly moving along the walls of the labyrinth.
"What the fuck?!" Yami Yuki exclaimed as the shadow was quickly closing in on her Beaver Warrior, revealing itself to be Shadow Ghoul as it emerged from the wall above Beaver Warrior.
"Wall Shadow, Reaping Claw Slash!" Para shouted as Shadow Ghoul now Wall Shadow, slashed Beaver Warrior with its claws.
"Shit!/Unh!" Yami Yuki yelled and Joey groaned at the same time as they watched Beaver Warrior exploded into pixels as it was destroyed.
"Good-bye, Beaver Warrior." Para stated with another pose as he closed his eyes and audibly exhaled.
"Oh, it came out of the wall, and now it's going back, where our guys can't get at it." Tea said, watching as the Wall Shadow sunk back into the wall since its attack was over as Yami Yuki lost 400 life points.
Para: 2,000 Dox: 2,000 Joey: 2,000 Yuki: 1,600
"Very lethal. Fucking annoying, but lethal." Yami Yuki grumbled since it was annoying that the Wall Shadow was able to move through the entire maze and attack her Bevare Warrior.
"They're cheatin'! It moved too many spaces!" Joey yelled since the brothers made it clear before that the monsters could only move the amount of spaces equal to their power level.
"On the contrary. The Wall Shadow didn't move any spaces. It moved on the wall." Para stated with a smirk, revealing the loophole that allowed this to happen.
"That's right, and the wall doesn't have any spaces." Dox added causing Joey to growl in complete and utter annoyance.
'Fuck, this is not good. Our monsters are restricted to walking along the spaces in the maze, whilst their Wall Shadow can move via the maze walls.' Yami Yuki thought as she had a poker face on to hide how frustrated this was making her feel. 'Which means he can strike our monsters when we least expect it.' She thought as this will make things increasingly harder for her and Joey until they can get rid of the Wall Shadow.
"So, now you know our strategy is unleashing a monster that you cannot see." Para said at a sort of slow pace, like he was dumbing it down so that they could understand it better.
"You fools! You won't know when the Wall Shadow is about to land a blow." Dox said, feeling confident that their Wall Shadow will help him and his brother completely crush Yami Yuki and Joey.
"We'll see about that." Joey retorted, him and Yami Yuki weren't beaten just yet. "Axe Raider in attack mode!" He exclaimed with a small grin as he placed the card down on a space on his dueling terminal. "And I'll also place one other card face down on the field." Joey said as he placed a card face down below his other card just as his Axe Raider appeared on the field with a grunt. "But since I can't see your shifty, little monster, I can't attack it, so I won't advance at all this turn. I'll just keep Axe Raider as far away from the wall and your sneaky weasel as possible, and I'll still be ready to attack at any moment, right?" He asked with a smile whilst looking to Yami Yuki for clarification as to if that was a good move to make.
"Right. That's a great move, Joey." Yami Yuki complimented as she returned Joey's smile. "As long as you keep Axe Raider far away from the wall, you can avoid being attacked by that sneaky pain in the ass Wall Shadow." She explained, glad that he was being smart about this instead of trying to enter the maze like she had.
'So far, so good. I haven't cost us any life points.' Joey thought, maybe if he keeps doing moves like this then they'll be able to win.
Tea had to agree with Yami Yuki on the fact that the move Joey made was a good move, but part of her was doubtful that he could keep this up. Bakura and Yugi tried to reassure her that he'd win with the older Muto sibling as his partner, however Tristan chimed in with his own doubts after that. Explaining that since it is a tag team match that Para and Dox could chose to just go after the weaker duelist. The weaker of the two of them being Joey because unlike Yami Yuki he was still trying to get the hang of all of this. That had been Tea's guess but she got no confirmation or denial, after all they all knew that it was true. They all knew that Joey was the weakest and that's why for most of his duels he has needed help from Yuki. The commentary from the peanut gallery behind them did nothing to distract the four duelists from said duel. Nor did it delay the fact that it was now Dox's turn now that Joey had finished up his own turn not to long ago.
"My turn, and I lay this card face down. Jirai Gumo." Dox spoke as he pulled a card from his hand and placed it on a space on his dueling terminal face down. 'Heh heh heh heh. Any opposing monster that steps on the space with Jirai Gumo's symbol will instantly fall victim to its fatal surprise. Ha ha ha ha!' He thought with a laugh before choosing yet another card from hi shand. "I'll also lay the Labyrinth Tank in attack mode and move it forward seven spaces." Dox said, playing the card as a menacing looking tank with many drills of varying sizes on the front appears and enters the maze.
"Good job, brother." Para praised in response to this move as Dox laughs with a grin on his face. "THat should help trap them within our maze." He said because with the Labyrinth Tank they were virtually unstoppable.
"Thank you, brother." Dox said, the praise only further inflating his ego towards the fact that he was certain they'd win.
"It's my turn now." Yami Yuki stated as she drew a card, looking at it before she glanced at Joey as he did the same for her. "I play the Celtic Guardian in attack mode!" She declared whilst playing the card as her blonde elf swordsman appeared with a snarl. "Move four spaces into the maze." Yami Yuki ordered as her Celtic Guardian obediently walked four spaces into the maze.
That choice immediately had Bakura concerned since the Celtic Guardian wasn't as strong as the Wall Shadow. Which means that he will be wiped out the second that Yami Yuki's turn is over and it will be Para's turn again. Now the two brother's seem to insist on looking like dramatic lunatics because once again they were jumping and flipping around. Completely ignoring the fact that they were in the middle of a duel as they just jumped and flipped all over the place. Yelling and making sounds that people usually only hear in those flashy over exaggerated Kung Fu movies. Which was honestly really annoying to Yami Yuki because she came here to win a duel and get to Pegasus's castle. Not to watch two bald guys in orange and green jump around all over the place like their in the middle of a Kung Fu movie. Not only was it annoying but it was just adding to the fact that they were prolonging the duel and making it much longer than it needs to be. It honestly took a tremendous amount of restraint for Yami Yuki to keep herself from running over and giving them both swift kicks to their crotches. Cause she was that annoyed at what they were doing right now.
"You fool! Did you not learn anything?" Para asked with an amused smirk, this was where Yami Yuki had failed the first time. "Wall Shadow, attack Celtic Guardian now!" He ordered as a shadow speedily moved across the labyrinth walls with a snarl, getting dangerously close to Celtic Guardian.
