The fight between Azog and Thorin was a short one, Thorin was easily thrown to the side and knocked unconscious. Azog turned to his orcs, ordering them to bring him Thorin's head.
"No!" Liliana cried out. She couldn't let Thorin die, not when they had come so far. Struggling a bit, she managed to get herself off of the tree, and she jumped in front on Thorin's unconscious body, her sword pointed out, her body in a defensive position.
A moment later Bilbo was beside her, and he looked up at her, giving her a small smile. Liliana knew that he was afraid, she could see it in his eyes.
An orc rushed for them, and Liliana was about to swing her sword, but then Bilbo ran forward, ramming his sword into the orc, killing it.
Liliana faced Azog, pointing her sword at him. "You're next, Defiler."
"Kill them," Azog ordered, a sneer on his lips.
As the rest of the orcs started to advance upon Liliana and Bilbo, a few of the dwarves that had managed to get themselves off of the trees rushed into the fight.
Amidst the sound of swords clashing, Liliana heard loud caws. Eagles? But what were they doing here? The sound of the eagles arriving caused Liliana to lose focus, and the otc that she had been fighting seized the opportunity, his sword piercing her side.
"Liliana!" Bilbo cried out as the woman stumbled back, clutching her side which had started to bleed profusely. Liliana fell to her knees, breathing heavily. Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion, she could see the dwarves around her fighting, could see the panic on Bilbo's face as he watched her fall. She vaguely heard another caw, and she felt something wrapping around her body, picking her up off of the ground. The eagles had come to rescue the dwarves, they were being plucked up off the ground, and Liliana could hear Azog shouting in rage as Thorin was once more out of his grasp.
Liliana wasn't exactly sure how long they had flown for, but she knew that it had been a while. The eagles dropped the group on a large rock before flying away, and Bilbo quickly dashed to Liliana's side. "Liliana!"
Liliana groaned, rolling onto her back. "I'm alright," she grunted, although she quite clearly was not alright.
Oin came rushing up next, and he lifted Liliana's shirt to reveal the injury. "I don't have anything that I can use to patch her up." He said to Gandalf. "My pack was lost when we were dangling over the cliff.
"I'm alright." Liliana insisted. "What about Thorin? Is he alright?"
"He should be coming to momentarily," Gandalf explained to her. "I used some reviving magic on him, so he should be waking up any moment now.
And wake up he did. About two minutes later Thorin became conscious once more. "The halfling?" He demanded, and Liliana was surprised to note that there was some concern in the dwarven king's voice.
"Bilbo is alright, he's safe," Gandalf assured Thorin.
Thorin stood up, a look of anger on his face as he stared Bilbo down. "What were you doing?! You nearly got yourself killed, you and the half-breed both!" He walked closer to Bilbo. "Did I not say that you would be a burden on us?"
Then, to everyone's surprise, Thorin wrapped Bilbo in a tight hug. "Never have I been so wrong in all my life." He whispered, and Liliana chuckled a bit at the look of shock that was on Bilbo's face before she winced in pain, clutching at her side once more.
Thorin pulled away from Bilbo, and he went over to Liliana next. "I had always thought that you were just a filthy half-breed." He murmured, his gaze going down to Liliana's injured side. "A woman that should have never been born, a woman that came from two races born to hate each other. But you have proven to be so much more than that. You are a warrior and an extremely selfless woman that cares more about those around her than herself. I have not met someone like you in some time, and I daresay that we would not have made it this far had it not been for you. Please forgive me for my prejudices against you."
Liliana sighed softly. "Thorin, you are an incredibly stubborn man, to the point that sometimes you are not willing to listen to reason. But...you are also incredibly brave, and you hold family more important than anything else. I do not blame you for the prejudices you carried against me, had I been in your shoes and the roles had been reversed, then I might have seen things your way as well. Consider yourself forgiven. Besides…" She gestured to her side. "I might not have much longer to live, so what's the point in holding a grudge?"
"You're going to live," Thorin said firmly. "Your wound may not be as bad as you think that it is. You are going to live, of that, I am certain of. You are a strong woman, you can fight this, you can heal."
"We need to get off of this rock." Gandalf interrupted. "Azog's plans may have been foiled for the moment, but it won't be long before he finds us once more. "
Liliana nodded her head as Thorin helped her to stand up. They had barely escaped with their lives, and there was no telling what might happen the next time that Azog would come upon them.
