"Can you please not be difficult today? I have something very important to do tomorrow and I don't want to be here all night hunting you down"
"You won't have to worry about that once I have your head in my wall"
Lucky Phantom AKA Makoto Naegi sighed as he continued the fight against Skulker, he's been doing this routine for 3 years and while he knows better than to get cocky he's pretty sure it's gonna end up the same.
He quickly blasted any missile Skulker shot at him with Ecto-Blasts, luckily for him they were fighting high in the sky so he didn't have to worry about civilians getting hurt or property damage, he would like his reputation to not be soiled again thank you very much.
Deciding he didn't want the hassle, he muttered a "sorry" as he shot the missile launcher in Skulker's shoulders, creating a big green and purple explosion that blew Skulker's suit into smithereens.
Acting quickly, he dashed to where the ghost once was and trapped whatever remains there was of the suit in a Ecto-Shield, he looked inside to see if what he was looking for was there.
"This is not over yet, Ghost Child!" A squeaky voice yelled.
Makoto sighed in relief upon seeing the tiny blob ghost glaring and yelling at him, he trapped Skulker there like he was aiming for.
"I'm sorry for that, but I'm not in the mood to fight today, it's bad enough I have to find a portal to send you back into the Ghost Zone" Lucky Phantom said, he always said sorry whenever he had to beat up ghosts, it was more of a habit at this point given he knew a simply sorry won't make up for that...but what can he do at this point?
Shrinking the dome to the size of a basketball, the ghost teen began looking around for a natural forming portal, his luck kicked in as he gasped and a misty-like vines escaped from his mouth, which meant either a ghost was near or there was a portal formed nearby.
He found it in the chimney of a house, kind of a funny place to appear in but who was he to complain?
"See ya later and again, Sorry for the beat down and blowing up your suit...again" Said Lucky Phantom as he dropped the ecto energy dome in the portal, which closed a little after, he was lucky to get it in time it seemed.
"It would be much easier if I had a permanent portal to throw them in or a place to keep them sealed until I found a portal...but beggars can't be choosers" He muttered as he flew away.
The Ghost flew through the suburbs until he found the house he was looking for and flew there, becoming Intangible to phase into it.
Then he arrived in a room. His room. He gave himself a look into the mirror.
He had white spiky hair with an ahoge and glowing purple eyes. His skin was pale and he had multiple scars across his body, as if he was stabbed all over the place, he had a white glow all around his body like any ghost. His clothes were torn and would always be like that given that it was the clothes he died on, but it could be discerned that he was wearing a purple purple hoodie with a cyan drawing of a gas mask on the hood and cyan lines on the zipper, sleeves and low part of it, a white blazer with dark blue buttons and white pants, finally he had cyan sneakers.
Suddenly a blue-white ring formed in his mid-section and it split in two rings with one going upwards and the other downwards. Once they finished they disappeared leaving the same teen but the glow was gone and his colors were inverted:Brown Hair, normal green eyes, green hoodie with red gas mask drawing and red lines, black blazer with golden buttons and black pants and red sneakers. The only difference in clothing from his previous form was that they were intact and he had red gloves.
"Well, tomorrow's the day...my first day at Hope's Peak Academy" he said with a sigh.
Normally anyone would be excited:Hope's Peak was famous for being the academy for the elite of the elite:the Super High School Level Students. Being at the top of their respective fields, everyone who studies there is said to be set for life.
He didn't feel he excelled at anything in his double life, as Makoto Naegi he was an average teenager...well was before the day of his Half-Death, then he became an average teenager who's life became a mess academically, socially and family wise. As Lucky Phantom he could be doing a better job at the whole Ghost Fighter and Super Hero thing, certainly not Elite of the elite or Super High Schooler material.
Though he wasn't picked by either of those things given his Ghost Life was a secret and he wants to keep it that way...no he was picked as the Super High School Level Luckster. It's kinda funny because of his ghost name, he picked both because he was lucky of not dying completely that day and of the irony of someone dying so young being considered lucky...then again he was both really lucky and really unlucky, his luck was a mess he didn't bother to understand.
Still, he didn't see how luck was a talent that could be worked on. Hope's Peak was meant to scout people with those Ultimate Talents and polish them, how can you train luck?
He sighed, maybe he'll understand when he actually arrives there.
The other problem was he knew he was gonna do terrible there.
Not because he was dumb, his grades had been slightly above average Pre-Half Death, not much to write home about but still not bad...no the reason is that Ghost Fighting messed up with his studies, arriving late, leaving in the middle of class, not getting homework done, no time to study, racking up detention or sick day cause he was busy recovering, etc.
Granted, it was not as bad as his first year in this life...nothing will be worse than that, he managed to get a slightly consistent school life after all this time, not excellent but as long as his luck wasn't going crazy he could get average grades and graduate at the end...but he didn't know if that would be accepted in a prestigious school like Hope's Peak.
Frankly he didn't know what he wanted to do with his life, he was so average before he became a Halfa that he didn't see himself doing anything grandiose, he was considering becoming a full time hero, it seemed to be the only thing he was unique at.
There was also the possibility of his identity being found out, he didn't know if he could hide it as well as he could now given the people of Hope's Peak are likely smarter than the ones he's used to (not disrespect to anyone he's known of course). He did research on his classmates, given that they're all famous he could find quite a bit.
And those were only his classmates, there were some that he couldn't find anything about...there was also the whole school.
He put his hands in his face in frustration, would they even tolerate him going out in the middle of class or arriving late a lot? This was gonna be difficult.
He could reject the invitation, he tried that at first! But his family raised a fuzz cause he was rejecting the only chance he had to have something good in his life and not disappoint them (not that they ever used those words...but he knew deep down they meant that), even the headmaster himself came to convince him to get into Hope's Peak because studying luck was THAT important it seems.
He groaned in annoyance.
If there was anything good about all of this, aside from the fact that if he miraculously managed to graduate he would guarantee success for his human life is that he could... reinvent himself in a new place.
Nobody would know him there, no friends of his are there, he didn't have anyone to disappoint, nobody would look at him with sadness cause he was pushing them out of his life cause they aren't in there and they never gonna be, they wouldn't think a thing about the Naegi he's been for 3 years because that's the only Naegi they will know.
It sucks, because he does want to have friends and help people as Makoto Naegi but he can't, he'll just have to be without friends...but it's better than losing them, that hurts more than never having them in the first place.
He yawned, it was time to sleep, he spent a long time hunting Skulker (even with his Ghost Stamina) and tomorrow was an important day, he changed clothes and just went to sleep.
Makoto nodded as he prepared, he had put foundation in his face to hide his scars. He didn't need to put it anywhere else since he rarely wears anything that doesn't cover everything but his neck and face, he did put the hood up out of habit since he has done it since his death.
He phased the foundation back into the walls, it was quite the useful ability because nobody except him could find them there and if they miraculously did they couldn't track him back to him. He did it with stuff like medical supplies he needed to treat the wounds from his fights.
He looked himself at the mirror, looking like this he could pretend he was fully alive and not...well Half-Alive. But he knew better.
He shaked the negative thoughts away and stared back at the mirror with Determination.
"You can do this, you did it for 3 years, you're not a newbie at this, you been in worse situations than this, you will go on and succeed"
He smiled at himself in the mirror, feeling motivated and optimistic in his chances. He went out with his head held high.
He encountered his family in the living room.
"Hey son!" Said his dad.
"Hello sweetie," Said his mom.
"Hey…" Muttered his sister.
His family with the exception of Komaru was smiling, although he could see that despite them being smiling, his parents weren't exactly happy.
He couldn't blame them, who could be happy about a son and brother who skips classes, struggles at school for what seems like "laziness", comes home with unexplained injuries and worst of all lies constantly and pushes you out of your life?
He knew that they all still worried and cared for him...and that they were disappointed, but even still he couldn't tell them...let's just say certain events convinced him it was a bad idea.
"Hey" he said, not sure what to say either.
"So, are you ready for your first day at Hope's Peak?" Asked his dad.
"Honestly? I don't know, it's really intimidating going to such a prestigious school, I feel I don't fit in" Makoto said truthfully.
"You don't fit anywhere anymore anyways" Muttered Komaru in a low voice, his parents didn't hear and while he did he said nothing.
"I know you'll do great sweetie, just be your...just do your best" His mom cut herself off upon saying be yourself, he knew why so he didn't point it out.
"I'm gonna try to do my best! It's a once in a lifetime chance and while I thought I didn't deserve it at first...I still don't, but I'm gonna make the most of this opportunity, others didn't get the chance so I have to do it for them as well" He said with Determination.
He could see his family smiling, genuine smiles, even Komaru had a little smile. Probably because this is the closest he's ever been to the Makoto they liked.
"That's the spirit son!" Said his dad.
Breakfast was over fast, he didn't need to eat or drink as much and his family was used to that. In no time he was out the door saying goodbye to his parents and was now on the sidewalk saying goodbye to Komaru.
"So, we'll be seeing each other later it seems" He said with an awkward smile.
"...I rarely see you anyways, so it doesn't make a difference to me" She said, not even bothering to mask the bitterness in her voice.
Makoto sighed, of all people his sister was the most affected by his change of behavior. She loved and admired her older brother with all her heart and then he pushed her out of his life without saying why...she was in the right to be like this to him.
He hoped he could fix their relationship one day…
"Watch out for Ghost Attacks" He said to her.
"I just take a page from your book and run away like a coward…"
Once the awkward goodbye was over, Makoto went to find a secluded place and changed into Ghost Form to fly to Hope's Peak while invisible.
While on the way he made a mental list of things to watch out for that might give his identity away.
His body was cold...like really unnaturally cold, Ghosts were cold to the touch, generally all of them including Halfas were dead body cold, hence why he wears gloves aside from hiding the stab marks there. If he avoids skin contact with people he should be fine.
His heartbeat was low too, he still has one compared to his Ghost Form lack of one, but he doubts it would be a problem unless he's forced to go to the infantry to get health checks.
Someone sees underneath his clothes and finds the stab marks that he gained since his Half-Death. He doubts it will be a problem but he should put foundation just in case.
His eyes glowing purple when he gets angry, he must close his eyes whenever he does that, easier said than done.
Whenever he blushes it's green rather than red because of his ectoplasm, he doubts it will happen but he should suppress it or just cover his face quickly, once again it's easier said than done.
His ectoplasm is a little bit visible on his blood, that might be a big problem, he has dodged going to the hospital for a while, maybe he should lie and say there's a bit of ectoplasm in him from being around so many ghosts, still he should just avoid getting his blood sampled, if it ever gets spill, well he can makes excuses during fights but not if they see it with their own eyes.
Still, it shouldn't get to that point.
Once he got close enough, he found a secluded spot and changed back to human and walked the rest of the way there.
Looking up he found himself looking at Hope's Peak Academy.
"Well, here I go" He said to himself while looking around, seeing the various people around him.
"I wonder which ones will be my Classmates?" He Muttered.
He was inside the school building until he collided with someone.
"Ouch"
"Oh I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!" He said immediately, he wasn't bothered by the impact given he's been hit by worse.
"It's ok, I know it was an accident...wait...is that you Makoto?"
And then Makoto instantly became as still as a statue, because in no way did this person recognize him...right?
She was a blue haired girl with blue eyes and a school uniform. He recognized her as Sayaka Maizono, famous pop star and the Super High School Level Idol.
"...Hi, you recognize me?" A bit awkward but he wasn't exactly thinking clearly.
"Yes, we went to the same middle school together, don't you remember?"
He did, who wouldn't remember that?...well he did since it was around that time he became a Ghost. But he was surprised she recognized him.
"Well of course I did, you stood out to me"
"How did you know what I was thinking!?"
"I'm Psychic"
Makoto was doing his best not to panic right now.
"I'm kidding! I just have very good intuition"
He was sure he nearly had a heart attack and died again, she didn't know how scary that joke was.
"Why is it scary?"
"Because Psychics scare me, I'm entitled to have privacy in my head, am I not?" He answered quickly and to be fair to him, it's a valid thing to say.
"True, good thing I'm not a psychic, right?"
...He was a Half Ghost and he was the town hero:Lucky Phantom.
The idol seemed to give him a confused expression, which confirmed that she did not find out. Seems her good intuition can't help when the truth is too outlandish to believe.
"Right, how did you recognize me anyways, I thought I was too average to notice" Also he was starting to act suspicious during that time frame.
"Well, one day you went to help a crane stuck in the pool when no one else did, that's something that I remembered even to this day!"
"Oh, that's what I did? I didn't think it was a big deal, that's why I didn't remember it" He didn't make a mental list of all the people he saved as Lucky Phantom after all.
"Well it was to me, I wanted to know you more...But then we graduated we went on separate paths"
Makoto nodded, the crane thing probably occurred late in their last year of Middle School and he was already a Half-Ghost by then but the changes he went through weren't as drastic and noticed by everyone.
Luckily (hah) for him, he and Sayaka didn't interact at all, which means she wouldn't see his behavior as weird since she would have no point of reference...He hoped at least.
"Well, I hope you have a good time at Hope's Peak" He said, making sure he didn't use the words 'let's be friends'.
"Of course I will, you're gonna be part of my class!" She said excitedly.
"Oh?...oh yeah, I forgot, I checked to see who would be my classmates after"
"You seem like you forget a lot"
His memory was often pretty good if he said so himself, but managing two lives didn't do him any favors.
"Oh, what's your talent? You still haven't told me"
"It's not really a talent, I'm the Super High School Level Lucky Student, my luck isn't even that great aside from winning the raffle" Well that and half-dying rather than dying completely.
"Well I think you do deserve to be in this school, I just know it…"
"Your intuition tells you that?" He asked with a smile.
She giggled and said "Good one"
Then she looked thoughtful. "Luck…"
"What of it?"
"...Nothing, just thinking of something else" As she said that, she was giving Makoto a look as if she was trying to analyze him or something, which made him a bit uncomfortable.
"Um…"
"... Oh, sorry, Didn't mean to make you uncomfortable" She quickly apologized.
"It's no problem, don't worry about it"
And after their encounter the two went to their classroom to meet their other classmates, Makoto was wondering something.
'Did she make the connection? When she mentioned Luck she seemed to stare me as if she was making the comparisons...I'm probably shouldn't imagine things like that, she's my classmate not someone I should be overly paranoid off all the time, even with my secret'
As he kept thinking in his head he was interrupted by Sayaka.
"We're here"
"Oh? Yeah sorry, I spaced out"
"That's ok Makoto, you look cute like that"
He immediately brought his hands to his face to hide his blush because Sayaka would notice something wrong with his face lit up green, she just laughed.
"You're fun to tease, you know that?"
"Ha ha" He replied sarcastically.
The two entered their classroom.
'...I fight ghosts of all kinds and colors and they would still stand out' He thought upon seeing the colorful cast of people in front of him.
He wasn't sure what to expect with Super High Schoolers, but he supposed this made sense, it did make him feel his normality (Ghost life notwithstanding) stand out.
A girl with brown hair, tan skin and blue eyes approached them. She was wearing a white tank top, a red jacket and blue shorts.
"Hi, my name is Aoi Asahina, but you can call me Hina, I'm the Super High School Level Swimmer," The girl introduced herself.
"Nice to meet you," Makoto said.
"You seem like a friendly person," Sayaka added.
"Thank you!" She said smiling.
Next up was a small girl with orange hair and eyes, she was wearing a green vest and skirt, she seemed shy.
"Hi...My name is Chihiro Fujisaki, I'm The Super High School Level Programmer" She introduced herself timidly.
"That sounds cool," Said Makoto.
"Aww you're adorable!" Said Sayaka.
The little girl just blushed and smiled.
Next up was a red eyed guy with black hair, he was wearing a white uniform and pants, he looked intense.
"I'm Kyotaka Ishimada! Super High School Level Moral Compass! Let our School experience be a productive one!" He introduced himself.
"Nice to meet you" Makoto introduced himself awkwardly knowing full well this guy was going to hate him, if his year at Hope's Peak is anything like his previous High School.
"Let's Hope so," Said Sayaka, a bit awkward at his introduction.
"Name's Mondo Oowada, Super High School Level Gang Leader, nice to fucking meet ya" A tall guy with orange hair on a Pompadour, violet eyes who was wearing a big black jacket introduced himself.
"The pleasure is mine as well" Said Makoto, he couldn't help but think this guy reminded him of a ghost he fought.
"Same to you, only without the swear" , Sayaka said in her piece.
"Swearing is forbidden in the school environment!" Shouted Taka.
"Fuck you I do what I want!" Yelled back Mondo.
Ignoring those two fighting, a fat kid with black hair and glasses introduced himself.
"I'm Hifumi Yamada, Super High School Level Fanfic Writer, I'm also know as "The Alpha and The Omega" In the world of fanfiction"
"Interesting" Said Makoto, though the word fanfiction reminded him that people actually write fanfics about his alter ego, he ended up reading some of them...it was an interesting experience to say the least.
"Maybe I should read some of your stuff!" Said Sayaka.
"Yo! Name's Leon Kuwata! Super High School Level Baseball Star! Though I don't really like the sport...Nice to meet you!" A spiky orange haired, blue eyed guy with a rockstar appearance introduced himself.
"You seem really nice!" Said Makoto, though I'm not liking the sport caught him by surprise.
"Why do you look like a rockstar?" Asked Sayaka.
"Oh, it's because I'm going to become one, it's my new dream!"
Sayaka glared at him and he didn't understand why.
Next came a bizarre haired guy that looked a few years older than the rest of them.
"My name is Yasuhiro Hagakure, but you can call me Hiro, I'm the Super High School Level Clairvoyant. Take it easy, I know I will!" He introduced himself.
"You look older than the rest of us," Mentioned Makoto, though the guy's talent worried him, he could find his secret through it.
"Oh, it's because I've been held back a couple of years, I'm actually 22!"
Makoto could notice he seemed slightly uncomfortable around him, he wondered if he could tell to some extent.
"Well it's nice to have another psychic around!" Joked Sayaka.
"Wow really! You're a psychic as well?"
"Nope, just really good intuition"
She looked at Makoto and gave him a wink, the Half-Ghost just smiled back.
"I'm Celestia Ludenberg, Super High School Level Gambler, nice to meet you" Greeted them a Red Eyed Gothic Lolita.
"Nice to meet you Celestia" Makoto knew plain as day that name was fake, but he decided not to call it out because he'll be a gigantic hypocrite even if none of them knew of it.
"Please call me Celes, I hope we get to know each other better" She said in a way Makoto knew it was a lie, but he didn't mind.
He knew that he didn't want to get too close to any of them either, despite how much he wanted to.
"Ok Celes, I hope we can be friends" Sayaka probably knew the name was fake as well, but she knew better not to prod.
Celestia smiled with a hand to her mouth.
"N-not that you care anyways, b-but i'm Toko Fukawa, Super High School Level W-writing Prodigy" Introduced a girl with brown braided hair, grey eyes and glasses.
"Nice to meet you!" Said Makoto, he got a weird feeling from the girl for some reason, it was like she too was hiding an alter ego.
"Y-you lie! You probably have never s-seen such a disgusting creature in your life!" The girl suddenly yelled as if she was being attacked.
"N-no! That's not it!" The girl wasn't even comparable to some of the ghosts and people he's seen, she was pretty, at least to him.
Though he did notice she smelled really bad, Ghost Enhanced Senses only made that worse.
"Y-yeah! We don't think you're disgusting at all" Sayaka supported him.
"S-sure you don't, it doesn't m-matter cause I'm used to it" The girl seemed to have serious inferiority complex issues.
Makoto sighed and moved on to the next.
A tall muscular white haired girl approached them next.
"I'm Sakura Oogami, Super High School Level Martial Artist" She introduced herself.
Makoto felt bad that he thought she was a boy at first.
"Hey" She said to grab his attention.
Then she seemed to close her hands to his body and he instinctively jumped back.
He was a bit nervous that she was going to be mad but she wasn't.
"I'm sorry if you thought I was going to attack you, I was just checking your muscular quality to see if you were fit to be my sparring partner" She Answered calmly.
"Oh, sorry about my reaction, i'm just not comfortable with being touched" It wasn't a lie either, though it was more of something that developed over time. Ever since becoming an Halfa most contact he had was someone trying to harm him, plus he also had to be careful with human touch cause it could blow his cover, his body temperature was abnormally low for a human and while he wears a lot of clothing he still wanted to be careful.
"Understandable, sorry for the trouble" Said Sakura wisely.
"Though I still think I wouldn't be fit to be your training partner anyways, my muscular quality is not that above average" Ghost Fighting did help him in that regard, though muscles don't matter much to Ghosts when you can simply nullify gravity to fly and increase your strength.
Though not being fit to be her training partner can be considered a lie.
"I'm a bit athletic but i'm not fit to be your training partner either" Said Sayaka raising her hands awkwardly with a smile.
Sakura just smiled and nodded at the two.
Next a gyaru with blonde pigtails and blue eyes appeared before them.
"My name is Junko Fucking Enoshima! Super High School Level Fashionista! You're gonna remember that name!" The girl suddenly greeted them as if she was a rockstar.
"Hehe, nice to meet you too" Makoto introduced himself awkwardly.
"Be grateful you can be in our presence, peasant" Suddenly she spoke in a queen-like personality, complete with a crown at the top of her head.
"I feel we're gonna have an interesting school life together" Sayaka sweatdroped.
"Oh and this pig-slut over there is my ugly ass twin sister, Mukuro Ikusaba, Super High School Level Soldier" She suddenly spoke in a normal-ish personality as she pulled a black haired blue eyed girl with freckles who looked a bit embarrassed but still stoic.
"Hi" She said, and she seemed a bit awkward.
"You shouldn't speak to your sister like that, but anyways, hi, nice to meet you" Said Makoto to Mukuro, smiling at her.
Mukuro looked a bit shocked and awkwardly returned the gesture.
"Yeah, hope we can be friends!" Said Sayaka excitedly, making Mukuro even more shocked.
"Ugh, such hope makes me wanna barf, whatever" And Junko let go of Mukuro and went to another part of the classroom.
"...Nice to meet you two too" Said the Soldier after a bit of silence.
"Does your sister always treat you like this?" Asked Sayaka.
"Well, she does, but I do love her and she loves me too," Mukuro blushed a bit while saying that.
"Is she your little sister?" Asked Makoto.
"Yeah, i'm the older twin"
"Cool, I also have a little sister, though we're not twins" And suddenly at the mention of his sister his mood temporarily plummets and his smile disappears upon remembering how much their relationship deteriorated.
He noticed the other two staring at him worried so he quickly put his mood back up.
"Don't worry about me, just thinking about personal things" He says dismissively in a way that says not to worry and it's personal so he doesn't want to tell.
The two seemingly accept that for now.
Moving on they see a tall blond guy wearing glasses.
"My name is Byakuya Togami, Super High School Level Affluent Progeny" He said just like that, it seemed that he didn't want to even talk with them anymore.
"Nice to Meet you" Said Makoto although he could see this guy wasn't up to making friends...then again neither was he so it made his school life easier.
Though he wasn't gonna be as cold as this guy was shaping up to be.
"Hi" Sayaka said, although he could see she didn't seem fond of him.
"What else are you expecting? I already introduced myself so get out of my sight" And with that he turned his head in the other direction as if they were just peasants and he was a king.
Which was fitting, but still rude.
Finally, there was a girl extremely fond of purple, purple jacket, purple eyes, long flowing lavender hair.
It was also the one person Makoto couldn't find much of.
"My name is Kyoko Kirigiri, Super High School Level Detective" She was calm but also distant.
"Nice to meet you" Makoto was nervous because of the Detective Part, he hoped she wouldn't be able to find out his secret identity, though on the bright side she didn't seem to be the type to want to make friends which made things easier for him.
It was sad to think how that has become a positive for him.
Strangely, the girl had a blank expression as she looked at him, it felt like she was looking directly at his soul.
It was unnerving...and she reminded him of another ghost he fought.
"I-i hope we can become friends" Said Sayaka a bit awkwardly.
The detective didn't respond, just looked at the side without much Caring.
'That seems to be all of them...they do have the eccentric aura befitting of Super High Schoolers...I wish I could become friends with them, but I know it's for the best if I don't, not like I can anyways' Thought Makoto upon recollecting his thoughts about them.
"Oh! I forgot we didn't introduce ourselves, my name is Sayaka Maizono! Super High School Level Pop Idol! Let's all become friends!" Sayaka introduced herself.
Then the expectation fell on him.
"I'm Makoto Naegi, Super High School Level Lucky Student"
'And Ghost Superhero Lucky Phantom' He added on his mind.
"Lucky Student?" Asked Chihiro.
"I basically won a raffle among all the people in the world and that got me accepted here, yeah it's not much of a talent and it isn't that good either, I didn't want to come in the first place but they insisted I came here to research luck…" He shrugged, it honestly felt embarrassing being in the same room as them despite not being excepcional in any way in both of his lives.
He kinda expected to be laughed at or ridiculed, but everyone else shrugged or flat out didn't care.
"Eh, I don't think it really matters to me whether your talent isn't that good or not, I just hope we have a great time together" Said Hina with everyone else either agreeing or not caring.
Makoto allowed himself a smile at that, though he did know that either way he wasn't gonna get close to any of them.
A part of him felt guilty about that, but it was what it was...
After the starting ceremony, Makoto and his class returned to their classroom to wait for their teacher.
He was surprised that apparently Hope's Peak was prepared for Ghost Attacks, there were Ecto-Weapons and Ghost Alarms around the school, among other things...lucky (Ha!) His human form didn't trigger them.
The Ghost Teen mostly kept to himself, answering questions when people asked him things about himself which he gave believable answers...not truthful ones obviously, but believable ones that won't incite prodding.
He believes that he should be average enough to not kickstart intrigue on others, just an average boy in the world of elites because of luck.
Even Sayaka will probably get bored of him at one point and move on to people that do matter, he was sure once the novelty of "childhood intrigue" wore off he could be alone for the rest of his school life.
Just like always.
A frown formed in his face at the thought of it, it's how it should be but he still didn't like it.
"Hey, are you ok?"
Makoto turned his head around to meet Chihiro speaking to him.
"Yeah, I am," He answered casually.
"Oh...it's just you look really lonely" She spoke shyly.
"Eh? Nah, I'm just like this, I like solitude" Well it was more like he had to be solitary.
"Oh o-ok, I understand, it just seems really weird because you look like the kind of person who loves to make friends, I-i'm sorry if it seems i'm going by stereotypes"
Well, she wasn't wrong, he was that kind of person once…
"It's no problem, i'm not offended...and don't feel bad about talking to me, just because i'm more of a loner doesn't mean i'm gonna eat you for speaking to me"
"Thanks! You seem like a really nice person," She said happily.
"Thanks, you're a really, really nice personal yourself"
She blushed a bit and went to talk to someone else, she was still smiling.
Makoto found that a little weird, but paid no mind to it.
"She may be onto something there"
Makoto was a little jumpy when he heard Kyoko's voice right next to him.
"What?" He asked.
But the detective just stared at him in neutral expression and then walked away.
"...ok?" Was all Makoto's reaction.
Mercifully, the teacher did appear.
She began to explain how classes worked in Hope's Peak, Makoto had half his mind to tune it out until she said it.
"Attending classes is not required and you won't get an absence for not coming. All it is required for you is to develop your talents and take a practical exam each year in early September which will decide if you keep studying here or not. Also while it isn't obligatory to attend classes it would be ideal for you to develop bonds"
Makoto just stared...and stared, blinked and kept staring.
'...This is real right? I'm not dreaming, right? This isn't too good to be true, right?'
He heard the cheers of victory from Leon and Hiro, it was really hard not to join them.
This single handedly solved almost every issue he had with his previous school clashing with his Ghost Hunting Life, he could go out and spend his time fighting back against Ghost without worrying of arriving late or taking too long to come back.
And he just has to prepare for September in advance only 3 times for it to go smoothly.
A smile adorned his face.
'Huh, guess i'm truly the Super High School Level Luckster and the Lucky Phantom'
