Makoto yawned as he walked through the halls of Hope's Peak, being the Headmaster of this place was exhausting, Jin Kirigiri has his eternal respect for managing this place.
Granted, it wasn't just that, he was also helping his friends and sister with whatever they needed, it's almost like his youth...which wasn't so long ago, given he was 20.
They needed help a lot, his sister especially...most likely cause she hasn't seen him in a while.
The Future Foundation also needed his talent as the Super High School Level Hope, not as much as before but there was still some Despair in the world…
So yeah he was a bit tired.
He just chose to put his hood up while he walked to his office...yes he was wearing a hoodie as the headmaster of Hope's Peak? So what? After all he's done he should be allowed to do something as simple as wearing the clothes he wants...wearing suits only as a member of Future Foundation was annoying, he was missing the coziness of a Hoodie.
But regardless of all that, Makoto finally arrived at his office...only to be met with the Vice-Principal of his school and close friend:Kyoko Kirigiri.
"Welcome Headmaster" She said, maybe he was too tired to notice but was there something different in her tone?
"Hey Kyoko, what-" he yawned "Are you doing here?"
"I came to check on you, we need to make sure the Headmaster is at top capacity while managing the school right?"
"Oh...don't worry about it then, I'm at full capacity like always, I'll give it my 110% to manage this school" He said with another yawn.
"...Yeah, right" Was all Kyoko said, he was sure there was something different in her tone, and her eyes bore into him but strangely it wasn't in a bad way. Call it naivety if you wish but he couldn't detect any hatred in her stare.
"...Makoto, take a seat" She gestured to his chair.
He was curious as to why she asked that, but he trusted his friend and sat on it. She looked at him, ruffled his hair with her hand...then walked to the door and proceeded to lock it.
"Huh? Kyoko?"
"Makoto...we need to talk"
"What do we need to talk about?" The Hopeful Luckster asked, he was sure he hadn't done anything bad, right? His memory was pretty good and he hadn't done anything wrong...right? Maybe he was a little tired to remember right.
"Makoto, you been stressed and tired lately, very tired and stressed"
"What? Kyoko I been a little tired yes, and this job is a bit stressful yes...but it's nothing I can't handle or something worrisome"
The detective just sighed. "Makoto, you have pretty bad bags under your eyes, you're yawning a lot and nearly falling asleep all the time. I fear if this keeps up you might die of overexhaustion" She said in an annoyed tone.
"Kyoko it's ok, I just been doing work and helping my friends, it's nothing out of the ordinary-" He yawned once again "-I'll be fine"
"Ugh, can you stop being a selfless idiot for once in your life and stop? Do you know how much it hurts to watch seeing you like this?!" She said in a rare show of burning rage.
Makoto was at a loss for words while Kyoko just pinched the bridge of her nose frustrated with herself.
"I'm sorry Makoto, It seems it was out of line from my end...I just been worried"
"It's ok Kyoko, i'm sorry for making you feel this way...But I can't stop"
"Makoto...hadn't you done enough already?" She asked.
"What?" This shocked the headmaster, to him the idea of doing enough was alien to him, he always wished he could do more for others at any given time.
"Makoto, you already done so much already for everyone:From what I gathered from your sister you helped your family a lot in your youth, you did a lot for your friends before Hope's peak, you told me of the worst day of your life according to you and how you tried to help everyone despite the bad luck you suffered that day. You did so much for our class at Hope's peak before the tragedy, you were our class representative and you ran around just helping our classmates, you tried to lift everyone 's spirit up during the tragedy. You did so much in trying to stop the killing game, you sacrificed yourself for me when I threw your life away like that, you were one of the main reasons we defeated Junko. Then after I gave you your 'Super High School Level Hope' title you did everything you could to live up to it, you believed and helped the Remnants when no one else did and risked your lives for them. You tried to help everyone during the Final Killing Game, you were subjected to the Despair Video and now you're the Headmaster of Hope's Peak...And you're still trying to help everyone around you while running yourself ragged" She said in quick fire succession as she looked at him with arms folded.
"Huh...Well" Makoto was at a loss for words...again.
"Makoto, you're 20 years old and you constantly describe yourself as a normal person...I don't agree but that's neither here nor there. The point is you already did enough, I didn't go through all the things you went through during all this time, this is too much for a 'normal person' like yourself, you are hurting yourself and eventually…" She looked to the side in shame, remembering how she almost got him killed in the Class 78 Killing Game.
"...Kyoko…"
"Makoto... just stop, I don't want to see you hurt yourself like this"
"...I'm sorry Kyoko, but I just can't, there's stuff I still need to do, I can't just stop…"
Kyoko just stared...and stared, her expression was blank…
"Ok"
"Huh? Really? Just like that?" The Headmaster was shocked about this, after all that he expected to argue more.
"I know for a fact that getting into arguments with you is a losing battle, but I don't want you to go around like that, so let me bring you some coffee...is that fine?" She said in her usual tone with a smile.
"Sure Kyoko! That is fine" He said, he was glad this discussion didn't go south.
"That's great, wait for me here, i'll go fetch you some coffee" And with that she walked out of the room.
Makoto breathed in relief as he waited for Kyoko to return, he would take care of some papers in the meantime…
And then he noticed a phone nearby.
It wasn't his, so he assumed it must be Kyoko's…
…
He knew this was wrong, but Kyoko's suspicious behavior didn't leave his mind. So he chose to look at it.
It was password locked of course…
…
He chose to input his own birthday.
And the phone was unlocked.
He figured to try it after Kyoko's strange behavior seemed to be focused on him, it sounded a little egotistical, yes but it did work, he muttered a quick thank you to his trademark luck and began to look at it.
He opened the chat and noticed that last time Kyoko was talking with...Class 77-B, AKA formerly Super High School Level Despair.
As he began looking at it he noticed that...they were coming up with a plan to kidnap him!
"What?" He muttered in shock.
"What are you doing with my phone?"
Makoto nearly jumped out of his seat upon hearing Kyoko's voice behind him.
"Huuuuhhhh"
"Give me my phone back" She said coldly.
She yanked the phone from his hands and looked at it…
"You saw it...you saw my conversations" A creepy smile formed in her face.
Makoto immediately tried to make a break for it but Kyoko pinned him to the table.
"Makoto, Makoto, Makoto, you should know that you can't overpower or outrun me...especially with how tired you are" She said with glee.
"Why are you doing this?" Makoto asked, trying to break free.
"I knew you were gonna be too stubborn to accept help, so I plan this out...for your own good"
"Let me go!" He struggled to get free.
"Why? So you can keep slowly killing yourself? I'm sorry Makoto but I can't allow you to do that. You're too precious for me to lose"
Makoto kept struggling to get free but he just couldn't. He was too tired for that, his office was soundproof so nobody could hear him either.
Kyoko then showed him something...a pill.
"It's a sleeping pill, it will make you finally take a break and easier to transport you to where I wanna take you. Don't worry about the school, or your friends and family...don't worry about anything else, i'll have taken care of things, now... just worry about being happy" She said. "Open your mouth for me"
Makoto wouldn't lie what she said was...tempting, he did feel tired...really tired and stressed. While she was acting crazy she was having his well-being in mind...but he couldn't…
"...Are you still resisting? Why are you doing this?..." She looked genuinely hurt by it.
"..." He didn't have anything to say, he just needed to be out there doing, helping, anything…
"...I'm kinda over it, if you aren't willingly gonna rest, then I…"
She put the pill between her teeth...and then kissed Makoto to his surprise, passing it to his mouth.
She separated and put a hand on his mouth.
"Swallow," She said in a whisper.
Makoto had a look of understanding before willingly swallowing the pill, his tired green eyes looking like finally about to close to rest.
"Good" Was all Kyoko said before sitting on a chair and dragging Makoto along with her, holding him with her as she waited for him to fully fall asleep. The Super High School Level Hope/Luck was still looking at her with eyes open in an attempt to be defiant, Kyoko just stroked his hair to help him fall asleep quicker.
"Still defiant to the end, it is to be expected of you...I don't want to do this...but you leave me no choice, you will keep destroying yourself and not do anything about it, nor the others either...I was like that for a time, but after I used you and you still forgave me, I understand better now...You helped me out of my self-destructive ways, worried for me and now i'll do the same for you...whether you like it or not...because I love you, so, so much…" Said the Super High School Level Detective
She then brought him up for a proper kiss.
"Sweet Dreams" And with that Makoto finally fell asleep in her arms.
Kyoko grabbed her phone and informed Class 77-B (+Hajime) that Makoto was now asleep and the plan was still on-going.
She was glad they understood, after all Makoto had chosen to help them even when they refused his help, now it was time to help him despite his protests.
Kyoko looked at her sleeping beauty. She wasn't gonna let her friends and his sister work him to the bone like they were doing.
She had already done enough damage herself. Using him as a sacrificial lamb, give him that stupid title that only put incredible pressure on him, not telling him about her forbidden action and bring him strife and pain...sure she had her reasons at the time and things might have gone south if she didn't do it...but she still had done him wrong and it was time to fix that.
She kissed the top of his head and carried him away...
