When Kyoko woke up in a classroom with next to no memory of who she was and what her talent was, she knew something was wrong and tried to investigate.
She was told to go to the gymnasium, not finding any meaningful clues for now, so she decided to go there.
She met quite the colorful cast of people, her fellow Super High Schoolers it seemed.
As she began thinking of what was happening and what did they need to do, the last of her supposed classmates arrived…
…
She could tell something was off.
Not of him no, he was so foolishly open she could read him like a book. It's just that she had the feeling she met him before...not just that, but she felt something intense for him, as if she wanted to love and care for him with a passion.
But that didn't make sense, right?
As she noticed him staring she could see something as well…
He was having those same thoughts.
"Hey...have we met before?" He asked with a confused face, she could see he was having the same confusion over his thoughts about a person he never met yet sparked feelings he never had before.
"No," she answered bluntly.
"Yeah, it was probably my imagination...what's your name?"
"Kyoko Kirigiri"
"That's a nice name, my name is Makoto Naegi, I'm the Super High School Level Lucky Student, what's your talent?"
"Why should I tell you?" That and she didn't remember it.
"Oh, ok, sorry" He apologized to her.
Next he was taken away by Sayaka Maizono...there was a horrendous feeling in her when that happened that made her want to rip her vocal cords open before she rejected it.
What was wrong with her?
Then, a black and white bear showed up...
After being told they are trapped here and that they have to kill someone to escape, there was an uneasy feeling among all of the students.
Kyoko investigated a way to get out of here and solve the mysteries in this mysterious situation, there was a lot that didn't make sense right now.
Sayaka apparently decided to be Makoto's assistant, she didn't know why this bothered so much, over people she never even met.
Not just her, Junko Enoshima also brought uneasy feelings in her, not just because she was obviously hiding something, but also because she has seen the way she looks at Makoto…The same way Sayaka does it.
Kyoko wanted to get people out of here...yet she wanted to see both of them dead.
And what do you know, she got her wish...
Seeing Sayaka dead on shower was oddly soothing.
Seeing Junko being impaled to death was satisfying.
She couldn't tell why.
She already cracked the case of Sayaka's murder, she wanted to use Makoto to frame him of murder but failed and got killed by her original victim:Leon Kuwata.
She supposed she redeemed herself by leaving a final clue as to who the culprit was, maybe she thought of Makoto in her final moments? She could respect that.
Of course she didn't reveal the case right away, she guided Makoto when it was needed and was pleasantly surprised when he proved his innocence and revealed the true culprit.
He had the potential to be a detective…
Detective...that word resonated with her…
After the case was over and Leon was executed, she must admit he was probably the first person she wasn't glad that was dead, the previous two brought her disturbingly good feelings.
She went to visit him in his room to help him move past their deaths, it would do him no good to be brought down by them all the time and she felt he was vital to them getting out of here...sadness didn't suit him either.
"I can't just simply forget about them...I carry them with me for the rest of my k
existence...and I will get everyone I can out of here!" He shouted with determination.
After being pleasantly surprised once again, she left with some final words.
"I have high expectations for you"
There was a reason she had those feelings for him after all, right?
The Dead keep piling up.
Chihiro Fujisaki, Mondo Owada, Kiyotaka Ishimaru, Hifumi Yamada and just now Celestia Ludenberg/Taeko Yasuhiro have perished.
"I'm not mad that you were not telling me, I'm worried about you! Something could have happened and…"
She was genuinely surprised he felt that way about her...he was so kind...so caring…
But he was also smart...and determined, as the investigations and trials have proven…
The feelings she had for him grew and grew.
...she felt bad for what she was about to do…
She hated herself whenever she used him as bait for the mastermind.
She had to, else how could she uncover the mysteries and get them out of here?
A dark corner of her mind asked her why the others were even worth getting out, he was the only one that mattered despite his lack of talent aside from Luck.
But she shoved them out, he wouldn't approve anyways.
She supposed it would be hypocritical getting mad at him for keeping a secret while she kept many from him...but she couldn't help it.
It's...as if her view of him was shattered…
Before he reconstructed it.
She was surprised at the amount of things he had to go through, she wasn't helping.
It all culminated in using him as a living sacrifice to keep herself alive.
She considered joining him after all was over until he was saved at the last second.
It was good though, thanks to it she put the Mastermind in a corner, just a little more...
"It's ok, i'm not mad, I forgive you"
He was surprised at the wide eyed stare she gave him, did he do something wrong or?
She grabbed his hand with her gloved hands and stared at him intensely.
"Kyoko, are you alright?"
"..." She didn't answer and just kept clasping his hand.
"Kyoko?"
"I love you "
"What?!"
"Nothing...Let's get out of here"
He just followed and ignored that for now.
Ever since her memories came back, alongside her talent and the reason she came here, there was resentment towards her father for abandoning her.
She had come to Hope's Peak to cut all ties with him, she was glad that she met Makoto along the way.
So now that learnt that he is dead and that he still cared for her...didn't really sit well with her.
She was now in the room that was unlocked when Makoto had the idea that her name was the password (isn't he just precious? He believed in her father when she didn't), in a room with a photo of her when she was a child with her father when he was still around...and the remains of her father in a gift box.
She was going to crush every single one of the Masterminds bones when she got the chance, she supposed she could share with Byakuya, he was full on "i'm gonna kill the mastermind" mode.
Speaking of him, he was getting a bit too close to Makoto for her liking, she didn't know if Makoto...or Byakuya swung that way but she better make sure it doesn't become a problem…
As she remained in that room to gather her thoughts, she was inspecting the place to find something else and pass the time...until she found a letter...various letters in fact, from her father...addressed to her.
She decided to read one of them
Kyoko.
I had the feeling I would need to write this letter in case I didn't get to talk to you in person and I wasn't around anymore.
So...I see you're getting close to one of your classmates:This Class Lucky Student, Makoto Naegi.
And I saw it in your eyes, it's love you have for him...perhaps far more love than normal for another person.
I see how you get immensely jealous when he talks to other people, girls in particular, how you look at those that are too close to him with hatred.
I know you're obsessed with him and look, I know I don't deserve to tell you what to do after what happened...but please, listen.
Don't do something hasty, don't do something that you might regret...I know him and I know he wouldn't approve.
You don't have to worry, I saw it in him...He loves you too.
How would I know? Well, your mother was a lot like you.
It probably would sound messed up to other people, but it didn't matter to her and it ended up not mattering to me...we loved each other.
And I can see that you two will be happy together...so don't worry too much.
With love, your father.
…
Wordlessly, she started reading the other letters...
As they unveiled the Mastermind and took in all the truths she threw at them, one thing was clear.
Despair was taking hold of them.
And why wouldn't? They just learned that the world outside is in ruins, that they have been friends who have been killing each other...that getting out, the goal they worked so hard for, has been all for naught and they actually sealed themselves on purpose to survive.
How ironic.
The Mastermind:Junko Enoshima, gave them two choices.
If one of them chose Despair, they can stay here for the rest of their lives, but Makoto will be executed.
If they choose Hope, Junko Enoshima will die, the door will open and the air purifier shut off, meaning they will be forced to survive in the ruined world of outside.
She...she was tempted to choose Despair, maybe it's what her father would have wanted...keep her safe.
But then, she heard him, her shining light and the person she loves with all her heart.
"I refused to lose to you!"
Makoto, with his determination ever so high and Hope ever unyielding, started convincing the others that they shouldn't lose Hope now.
"It's staying here until you die, even living at all? We can go out there and despite how scary and difficult it might be, we can live for real!"
"I know the path ahead seems hard, it's gonna be hard and there's no denying that, but we aren't just living for our sakes, we are living for everyone that died along the way"
"The Togami family is the strongest family in the world right? They wouldn't fall into Despair and neither should you! Because you still carry the Togami name and they will live on within you!"
"Byakuya wouldn't fall into Despair...besides, do you even want to stay here in school? I get the feeling you aren't the type to like School"
And with his arguments and motivating words shot as if they were bullets from a Handcannon, each of the survivors snapped from their Despair and got back into action. It was clear what they were gonna vote for next.
Seeing Makoto giving Hope to each of the survivors and how Junko's plans were falling apart in front of her...she understood.
She understood Makoto's True Talent aside from Luck…
The Super High School Level Hope.
He was getting ready to convince her that she shouldn't fall into Despair, he didn't need to now of course. She knew full well her father wouldn't want her to sacrifice Makoto to remain here.
But as she locked eyes with him, she just stared...and he stared back.
It seemed that, just for a bit, they understood the feelings they had for each other.
"...Alright, I guess I don't need to say anything" He said with a smile.
She smiled and as he got to his final shouting match with Junko.
"You know Makoto? I believed that regardless of your Luck, the real reason you came to this academy was to defeat the Super High School Level Despair...so the title of Super High School Level Hope suits you, don't you think?"
"Well, I don't believe Hope is necessary a talent in an of itself, I'm just someone who's determined...and more Gun-Ho than others"
And after that he proceeded to Verbally and metaphorically fill Junko with Holes.
After all was over and they were about to leave the academy, she decided to take Makoto away to some place else to finally let out her feelings.
"What do you want to tell me Kyoko?" He asked innocently.
"...I love you"
"Really?!"
"Not just that...my love for you is...far bigger than you thinking off"
"Aww, well-"
"As in Obsessive love, the one that wants to kidnap you and keep you all to myself and do all sorts of things for you" She wasn't very good at this, ok?
"...Oh"
She was beginning to think she screwed everything up until he just smiled at her.
"Well...I love you too"
"Even after all I said?"
"Yeah...is it weird that I got a little excited after that?"
"Really?" She asked amused.
"Well yeah...I don't know, the idea that I'm loved by someone to that extent...makes me really happy, I don't know why though" He said sheepishly.
But Kyoko understood.
"Is it because you have so much love to share for everyone and feeling that you aren't that special means the idea that someone gives even a tenth of that love back makes you happy?"
"Huh? I don't think it's that much"
"Yes it is, you are filled with so much love it's unreal" She said staring at him with a loving look.
"Did your eyes have hearts on them?" Asked Makoto.
"Makoto, I just want you to know...you're a wonderful person and I can't thank you enough for everything you did for me and the others. When I first met you I already had those feelings for you...I believe they managed to remain despite the memory loss, you not only validated those feelings but it's possible that you increased them. I want you to know that...I love you, I adore you and I will repeat that until the end of days...because there's no way I can say it enough times to convey how much I love you" She said as she let out the feelings she was keeping inside.
Makoto was simply speechless the first time since she met him, it was a sharp contrast from how he was at the class trial.
She could tell why though...he was happy.
Happy that someone loved him back, loved him back so much despite him not thinking he deserved it, loved him back after giving out so much love for everyone.
And he accepted her, despite telling him how crazy and Obsessive she was for him, he wasn't repulsed, he understood.
She took out her gloves and clasped his hands with her burned hands, she brought his hands close to kiss them.
Then to her surprise, he clasped her scarred hands with love and kissed them.
She broke out a smile…
She...she will do anything for him...anything.
And she didn't have to worry about it, because she knew him, she knew that he would never abuse or use her.
"I love you...I love you so much" He said back to her.
Their future was filled with Hope…and lots of love.
