Makoto Naegi was excited.
Today his girlfriend was going to visit him at Hope's Peak.
Ever since he was accepted at Hope's Peak, the two lost their school time to keep in contact. This was not a problem for them though, being neighbors with a pretty close bond to each other allowed their relationship to keep afloat just as well as before.
He wanted to introduce her to his friends and introduce them to her, he hoped this went smoothly and they got along, although he didn't feel he had much to fear. While she hadn't been exactly a people's person at the time aside from her and his family, she changed...besides his classmates were good people...at least he believed that they were good people.
"Hello Makoto...you seem excited today"
That voice made Makoto jump back in a fright, but he calmed down upon seeing it was Kyoko.
"Oh hi Kyoko, how are you doing?" He asked with a friendly smile.
"It's fine, much better than I'm here with you," She said with a smile of her own.
"Hehe, i'm glad" He said sheepishly.
"You still haven't told me what got you so excited though" She asked curiously.
"Oh, my girlfriend is visiting me at Hope's Peak!"
And just like that any good mood or friendly atmosphere related to Kyoko vanished, replaced by a cold, hateful environment that Makoto couldn't help but feel uncomfortable in.
"Um...Kyoko?"
"Oh yeah, your girlfriend" She said trying to hide the venom of her voice with her usual neutral tone.
"Yeah, we finally got to arrange a visit! I wanted her to met you all"
"...I suppose I am curious to see what's she's like"
Makoto didn't know why her tone gave him bad vibes, as if she was just throwing it out there to find something positive from the meeting.
However, those musings were cut short when a sudden but familiar feeling overtook him, he smiled.
"Cutie…" A feminine voice said.
"Don't you know how to treat your guests?...take my hand"
Without hesitation Makoto did it, taking the hand of the mysterious person...and a whole lot of ketchup poured out from it.
"I thought I'll go for a classic today, won't you agree?" She said with a smirk and a relaxed tone.
Makoto looked at his ketchup covered hand with a smile and then to the girl in question.
She was a red eyed girl with brown hair and rosy cheeks. She was wearing a green unzipped hoodie with the hood up (Makoto had also put his hood up for the occasion), a white T-shirt underneath it, she was wearing red gloves and red boots as well as black pants, finally she had a heart locket hanging from her neck.
"Hello there Mirror" The girl said.
"Hi Chara" Makoto responded, smiling.
"How are you doing today?"
"I'm doing pretty good, it's even better than you are here. I can't wait for you to meet my classmates!" He answered with glee.
"Neither can I Partner"
"In fact, there's one right now, this is Kyoko Kirigiri, Super High School Level Detective" He said pointing to the purple girl.
Chara frowned for a split second noticing the bad vibes she got from her but disappeared and she had her smile plastered back in her face.
"Greetings, name's Chara, Chara Dreemurr. Nice to meet you" She held out her hands.
She could notice the girl hesitation to grab her hand, already having an idea why but she kept playing dumb.
"Don't worry, I only used the ketchup prank for Makoto so don't worry about getting your gloves dirty" She gave her a look to signal her to co-operate.
"...Kyoko Kirigiri, nice to meet you. Makoto has talked a lot about you...when we found out you exist" She said while shaking her hand, squeezing it a little hard in signs of hatred.
"Sorry for that" Said the Luckster.
"It's fine, I don't think you having a girlfriend is something that would come up or you should say immediately, so relax Mirror" She said with a shrug.
"Though it might be signs that person isn't as important to them"
"Kyoko!" Makoto shouted a little angry.
"It's ok, me and Makoto's relationship is stable, we are a calm bunch so we don't need to shout it to the heavens that we love each other...besides I'm sure Makoto rejected or ignored any advances other girls made towards him, am I right?"
Chara swore the death glare she sent her way was priceless.
"...You are right"
"See? Me and my reflection don't have anything to worry about in regards to being taken away by other people"
Kyoko closed her eyes and mentally counted up to 10 to calm down.
"What's with you and calling him things like Mirror and Reflection?"
"Well, we look, dress and sometimes act rather similar, so we call each other names like Mirror, Reflection...I remember the first time Chara called me Mirror" Makoto reminisced with a blush on his face.
"Hello there pretty Mirror, how did you trip without a mark on you, it be a shame to see someone like you hurt...that's the first time I flirted with him, his reaction was so cute"
"Yeah well when I said you were cute later that same day you were heating up in frozen snow"
"Hehe...you got me" Now it was her turn to blush.
Kyoko was doing her best to calm herself down by imagining Chara's horrifying death and Makoto being hers, it was immensely effective.
"Well I'm glad you two are happy…" She lied.
"Aww, thanks" Chara added, disguising her mockery.
"It's really nice of you Kyoko" Makoto added genuinely, although he could see that something wasn't right with Kyoko.
The Detective remained silent.
"Anyways, let's go meet the others, we don't want to waste time" Said Makoto trying to change the subject.
"I follow your lead Partner" Chara said casually.
"...I have nothing to do, so I can tag along," Kyoko added, mostly to learn from Chara so she could either do horrible things to her or steal Makoto from her.
"Well Partner, your classmates are certainly eccentric characters...but they're mostly good people" Said the Red Eyed Girl.
"Yeah, they can be a handful sometimes, but they are my friends…" Said the green eyed boy.
Kyoko didn't say anything, right now she was collecting everything she learnt about Chara.
She's the adopted daughter of the Dreemurr family, comprised of Toriel and Asgore Dreemurr, she had a little brother named Asriel who is the biological son of her parents and she had a big sister named Undyne who's also adopted but is old enough to live on her own.
Her parents were former students from Hope's Peak. Toriel is the Former Super High School Level Police Officer (albeit she's still part of the Police Department), though she jokingly said her true talent is the Super High School Level Smother (Makoto laughed at her joke and she wanted to shot her in the face) and Asgore is the Former Super High School Level Scientist, though Chara said he is also an immensely skilled gardener and botanist, she's even learning from him. Undyne also has her own TV Show and her brother Asriel wants to follow in his mom's footsteps.
She's very skilled with knives, even having her own personalized black knife with red ivy patterns. Makoto said he helped her paint it, she made a mental note to approach her with caution.
She likes Chocolate, a lot. She knows quite a few chocolate based recipes, she explained her family all have some food or drink they're skilled at making (Her mother's was pie, her father's was tea, she didn't say what her older sister was and her younger brother was cookies).
She's quite fond of pranks, jokes and puns that made Makoto laugh quite a bit. She was convinced he only did that because he was (erroneously) in love with her because just hearing her talk made her ears bleed.
She and Makoto had the tendency to do what they call "Check"; Basically they point to an object or person and do a snarky commentary/observation of it. She hated to admit she found the cactus one funny ("Ah the cactus, the tsundere of all plants").
She and Makoto met when they were 12 year old during winter. Apparently Makoto was playing around in the snow and got lost, he was walking feeling someone was following when a figure appeared behind me telling him to shake his hand...and when he did ketchup bursted from it, and introduction and a bit of flirting later Makoto joined her and Asriel in a roleplay they were making, then he met their parents, he introduced his sister and family to them...and two years after that they confessed becoming boyfriend and girlfriend...or partners as they call it.
However the biggest and most important piece of info she collected was that this girl was perceptive, intelligent, sharp and most of all...determined.
In a way and as much as she despised admitting it...similar to Makoto, only with not his optimism and less naivety.
Aside from figuring out her feelings for Makoto the second they meet each other. The hoodie girl was constantly analyzing her and Makoto's classmates, figuring out who was dangerous, rotten and flat out not someone she wanted to associate with. So far Sayaka, Celeste, Mukuro, Byakuya, Yasuhiro, and especially Junko gave her the worst reactions.
It was clear she wasn't someone to take lightly, she should keep her guard up at all times while dealing with her.
"Well Makoto, it's been nice meeting your friends, but I want to go home now. I'm a bit tired and Asriel is probably missing me already" Said Chara.
"No problems Chara, let me inform them that you are leaving, also do you wanna play with me, Komaru and Asriel when I go home today?"
"You got it!" She said pointing a finger gun at him and winking.
"Ok, see you later!...My reflection" Said the Luckster as he left his other half with the Detective.
There was only silence between the two, only sounds were of people around them and the environment.
"...He's truly one of a kind" Started Chara.
This made Kyoko snap her attention towards her.
"When I was little I didn't really trust humans with the exception of my family, before I met them, everyone was a piece of shit" Her tone got bitter
"Even after I met them I was still wary of people outside of my family...then I met him...I never met someone so kind, so full of life, so full of love, so determined, so caring...well, you get the idea. I never knew someone like him with the exception of my family" She started smiling more and her voice got happier.
"He always tried to make me happy, to make me realize not everyone was scummy, always said that I was better that what I thought I was, always believed on me...even after all this time he's still that same kind person, that's no easy feat"
"Why are you telling me all this? Just reminding me of how great of a person Makoto is and shove it in my face the fact that you are dating him?" Asked Kyoko annoyed.
"Just wanted you to know how much he means to me, that's all...Believe or not buddy but you're not the only one that cares about him a lot" Chara spoke in an amused tone.
Kyoko just did her patented Kirigiri stare...which did not deter her in the slightest.
"I know that you're probably thinking of kidnapping him...or killing me...or try to manipulate him to make him fall in love with you, not the first time someone tried any of that crap"
Kyoko's stare lessened.
"Just wanted you to know, if you tried any of those things and succeeded...then I still won, because you had to force your way into his heart, to replace me…"
Kyoko's stare turned into one of anger and pure hatred, clenched her fists so hard that if she wasn't wearing gloves she definitely would have started bleeding from them, her teeth were gritting in full display.
"I mean, even if an apocalyptic event happened that claimed my life while you and Mirror had to be locked in a bunker for the rest of your lives together, that would still be an unfair advantage that you had over me...so it wouldn't be fair wouldn't you say?" She shrugged with a big smile on her face.
She wasn't afraid of a crazy little detective girl who wants to take her beloved partner from her.
"Just know...if you try to hurt him or even say...try to kill him because you can't stand the thought of him being with someone else...you won't just have a bad time, I will send you to hell were you belong after making you suffer"
Suddenly she glared back at her with all the intensity and rage of a demon, nobody was gonna hurt her mirror while she was around...she will protect him and her family until her final breath.
"Same to you" Said the Detective, she wasn't gonna let this girl potentially hurt her beloved Luckster, she wouldn't rest until he was safe with her.
The glaring showdown was in a stand still until they heard a voice.
"Hey Chara, already informed them that you can leave. Sorry for the wait, got caught up in some problems...stupid luck" Came the voice of Makoto.
His voice was soothing for both the girls who calmed down upon hearing him.
"Well, it's been fun talking to you" Said Chara casually, her voice regained the jovial tone from usual.
"Likewise" Kyoko regained her neutral tone.
"Well, see ya...oh and keep a eye on Fashion girl...she's a tad cuco cuco"
"I'll take your advice"
Chara finally left the detective behind to say goodbye to Makoto.
"What were you two talking about?"
"Eh, nothing much, about your classmates"
"Oh ok…"
"Is something wrong?"
"Look, I know Kyoko can be a little...cold and a bit aggressive, especially to girls I talk to...but I know she's good person"
"Yeah I noticed…"
"Hey don't worry about it, she might be my friend but you're the only I love...the only one who can have that place in my soul, someday she will realize it too and move one"
"...Thanks...Partner...I know that you do...but it makes me feel even better when you say it"
"Hey, when I feel down you do the same... it's how relationships work after all"
"Heh...see you later, Mirror"
And with that she wrapped her arms around and kissed him, Makoto was a little throw off before he did the same and kissed her back. The two separated but still hugged each other, even rubbing their foreheads together…
"Heh, we're going to kill it in that cuddle competition" Said Chara.
"Your parents always wanted us to continue the dreemurr winning streak" Said Makoto, remembering that Asgore and Toriel always ended up in 1st place during it and now they were participating in it.
Chara finally gave a final wave as she walked off.
Makoto smiled and shouted. "See you later, Mirror!"
Chara Is based on her Storyshift Preboot version and is the same girl referenced in the 1st and 3rd oneshot.
