Better than Breakfast

Disclaimer: I don't own Downton Abbey.

So apparently, my muse decided it needed some fluff after all the angst I've been writing, because this scene sorted of popped into my head. :)

Hope you enjoy.

Cora woke to Robert's soft kisses on her cheek.

That wasn't unusual; he generally woke and climbed out of bed earlier than she did, and he often gave her a kiss within her haze of sleep. But today, he peppered her cheeks with warm kisses over and over again. And with each kiss, Cora's energy grew until her hand reached behind his neck to hold his head in place.

Chuckling deeply, Robert responded by increasing the pressure of his lips. She moaned at the delightful surprise. Her husband wasn't one for spontaneous gestures. But sometimes he could be rather romantic. Today was apparently such an occasion, especially as he began covering her neck with warm kisses.

"Oh, Robert," she couldn't help but sigh. In return he climbed onto of her, his blue eyes showing all of his love as he gazed at her. "You're supposed to be in your dressing room, and then the breakfast room," she said, although her hands held firmly on his back contradicted that statement.

"I'd rather have you," he said, his eyes still gazing into hers, but his voice betrayed a teasing element. With that, he sucked on her neck, and Cora lost herself in the sensation.

Suddenly she felt his hands reaching under her nightgown, although his lips kept her quite distracted. It took some work, but with Cora's eventual help, the silky garment was discarded.

Grinning even wider, he stared at her naked form, and stroked her breasts. "You're so beautiful," Robert said after a moment. She smiled in return, feeling blessed that he still found her so attractive since she'd had three children. His face then leaned closer to her chest, kissing both of her breasts. "Oh, darling," he said with a sigh.

Cora's heart swelled at the sentiment and pressed her hands to his chest. "It is your turn," she said, finding the buttons to his nightshirt. She met his blue eyes again, seeking confirmation, and he nodded eagerly.

So, Cora removed his shirt, revealing the familiar chest and dark hairs. Her hands played with his chest hairs without thinking, and Robert kissed her fingers in response.

She felt deliciously warm the more he touched and kissed her, as he knew all her soft spots. Robert's lips brushed under her ears, his fingers caressed her stomach and just below her hips until she let out a loud moan.

Cora then removed his night trousers, enjoying the feel of his bottom and legs beneath her hands. With that, she welcomed Robert's weight onto her again as he kissed her deeply. Her hands squeezed his back, holding him in place, again.

At some point, his hands reached between them to caress her breasts again, but they still kissed.

Eventually, it was time for their joining, but still they kissed. Softly, deeply, on the mouth, and on both of their cheeks.

"That was wonderful, Robert," she said when they finished. Slowly, she replaced her nightgown, so not to be caught naked by her lady's maid.

"Better than breakfast," he said with another wide grin as he rebuttoned his nightshirt.

She nodded with a giggle, enjoying the playful side that only appeared in her presence. "I still think you should eat something, though. You don't want to walk Isis on an empty stomach."

Robert didn't answer right away, probably weighing the benefit of eating breakfast late, versus causing gossip around the house. "At least I can depend on Bates not to say anything," he said, his voice showing the typical pride he had in his valet.

"Darling, it was worth it," she said, reminding him of what he'd already said. In response, he leaned over and gave her a warm kiss.

"Better than breakfast," he said again before he left the room.

Cora leaned against the headboard, sighing in contentment. He was right. That was better than breakfast.
