Act and Potency
Tom swung around in his chair to face his commanding officers. "Y'know, there's a lot of wasted potential on this ship."
Chakotay let out a longsuffering sigh and raised an eyebrow. "What are you thinking of this time, Tom?"
"We just keep replicating regular shuttle crafts whenever we lose one."
Chakotay waited, but Tom didn't elaborate. And Kathryn was still only halfway through her first cup of coffee for the day, not yet fully alert. He sighed again. "Your point?"
Tom grinned. "We could be replicating taco trucks!"
Chakotay facepalmed. "Tom, that's not-"
"I second that idea!" said Harry from his station.
"Third!" said B'Elanna from hers.
Chakotay glanced at Kathryn. "Guys, we're not-"
"Fourth!" said Ayala from his spot next to Tuvok.
Chakotay glanced at Kathryn again, who was slowly taking another sip. "Guys-"
This time Tuvok spoke. "Intriguing. I am also in favor of Mr. Paris' idea."
"As am I," said Seven from her spot behind him.
There! Kathryn had finished her first cup. Chakotay grinned. Victory was at hand. "Kathryn? A little help here?"
Kathryn cleared her throat before standing authoritatively. "Alright, people," she said. "I'm the captain, so I hereby make an executive decision!"
The bridge waited in anticipation.
Chakotay grinned.
Kathryn smiled. "We're getting a taco truck."
Chakotay sighed and collapsed back in his chair, defeated, while the bridge crew cheered in childish delight.
