Differences in Taste, Part 6

Seven blinked, staring up at the ceiling of Sickbay. She sat up, one hand flying to her throbbing head. "Why am I here?"

The Doctor was scanning her with a tricorder. And he looked like he was trying not to laugh. "I'm glad you're awake. You, ah… you took quite a blow to the head."

Seven squinted and opened her mouth to say something cutting before she noticed Janeway standing near the door, not even bothering to hide a smirk.

The Doctor continued, still trying not to laugh. "In fact you knocked yourself out cold."

At that, Janeway snorted.

The Doctor snapped the tricorder closed, then turned to Janeway. "Captain, I believe she'll be just fine."

Janeway cleared her throat, apparently trying to get herself back under control. "Very well. I should head to the bridge." She quickly spun on her heel and left, Sickbay doors closing behind her.

A very loud, unashamed burst of laughter made its way through the closed Sickbay doors before Janeway's footsteps faded down the hall.

The Doctor turned back to Seven. At least now he had the decency to try to suppress his grin. Not that he was being successful. "The Captain told me the two of you were arguing. Do you mind telling me what about?"

Seven bristled and hopped off the biobed. "The Captain has developed a taste for white chocolate mochas. She believes I am to blame for that."

"Really? I thought she was adamant about being a 'black coffee purist'."

"As did I. It makes no sense that she would blame me when I myself only starting drinking them a few weeks ago, right after-" Seven cut herself short, realization dawning.

The Doctor raised an eyebrow. "Right after?"

Seven glared at him. "Right after we were captured by Captain Ranik and his crew. When you convinced me I should enjoy indulgently sweet foods and beverages." She took a threatening step toward him.

"Oh! Ah…" The Doctor's grin instantly turned nervous and he raised his hands placatingly. He started to back away. "Now, now, let's not make any hasty decisions! Maybe I should run more scans- that blow to your head might be affecting your cognitive processes, eh heh…"
