Babysitting, Part 1
The Doctor was playing with actions figures.
At least he was doing so while trying to entertain Naomi and the Borg kids.
He seemed to be taking it very seriously. He spoke dramatically. "One emitter to rule them all, one emitter to find them. One emitter to bring them all, and photons and forcefields bind them."
Icheb frowned. "This sounds suspiciously familiar…"
The Doctor smiled, attention still focused on the action figures. "I assure you it's quite original. It's from my new holonovel, Photons Be Free." He pretended one of the plastic figures was carrying the mobile emitter. "Cast it into the fire! Isildur!!" He lowered his voice ominously, speaking for the other figure, "No…"
Naomi whispered to Mezoti, "See? I told you he was weird…"
Mezoti whisperd back, "I think he enjoys playing with actions figures more than we do."
The Doctor continued, "The emitter found a new master. A twenty-forth century hologram…"
Azan turned to Rebi, "Wasn't Seven going to-"
Rebi finished his question, "-meet us here soon?"
The door opened.
There was a notable pause before Seven spoke. "…Doctor."
The Doctor didn't look up, still miming heroic actions with the plastic figures. "Yes?"
"You are supposed to be watching the children, not playing with their toys."
The Doctor finally looked up. He raised his eyes to the ceiling and sighed dramatically. "I'm encouraging creative expression, Seven. It's vital for their development as individuals."
