I don't own Home Alone
Enjoy!
Having a police uniform with him at all times had proven to be an easy escape for Robert from the corrections facility. After his encounter with Ray, his first instinct had been to follow Harry's wife to Cook's County Jail. Even though Ray had been the only one to go in and out of the facility, Robert had feared that the other policemen would know that he was an impersonator. However, his costume and stance had been convincing enough that Robert felt he could do it again when the time was right. And he had gotten what he had came for. Just like his instincts had told him, Harry's wife had paid a visit due to the names on the 'Visitor's' list. His only dismay was that he wasn't able to catch her in time, but what use would she have now? He had been patient with her, unlike Ray, and had at least given her a form of respect during the last couple of months, but she had gone too far with her actions. A part of him wondered why a woman would still want to help her husband who had proven to be a liar, a cheat, and worst of all, a thief? Thievery was something that Robert had frowned upon during those years when they were a trio back in New York but Harry had shown his greed after that heist. When someone works hard to get towards a goal and another gets in the way, then they would feel cheated. That was how Robert felt when Harry took both his and Ray's share and ran away with it. He had waited far too patiently for this moment and now that it was almost his, he was willing to do anything that he would to get what was rightfully his.
Getting out of his car, Robert made his over to a small diner that was filled with many customers. This diner had proven to be quite the, if Robert would think about it, cozy joint with good food and coffee. He wasn't feeling too hungry at the moment but a cup of coffee would help in waking him up a little more. He let a couple walk by him as he entered inside. He found it rather amusing how people in this town were unaware of who he was and Robert wanted to keep it that way after he got out of Chicago. He sat by a booth and looked at the menu.
"What can I get you?" a young waitress, that was in her late teen years, asked in a bored tone of voice while lazily chewing a wad of gum.
Kids these days Robert thought as he looked at her in annoyance. "Coffee's good," he said to her, "that'll be all." The last thing he needed was more questions to be asked, let alone having to hear that exasperating chewing sound. Once she poured the coffee in a white mug, Robert held it close to him and inspected a nearby newspaper that another customer was reading next to him, though nothing of interest caught his eye. Then again, he wasn't from Chicago.
The bell rang when the door opened and a family that had at least six kids walked into the diner and Robert frowned when he heard their loud voices. So much for peace and quiet he thought to himself and took another sip of his coffee. Robert looked over his shoulder and almost let out a whistle. With a family as large as that, they would have to have at least two houses to fit them all. However, Robert was not aware of their financial status and nor did he care about that.
"Alright everyone pick out what you want," he heard the mother say to her children as they all looked at the menus.
It was a temporary moment of peace before the table went up in an uproar once more. Looking over his shoulder once more, Robert took one good look at the red haired woman who wore a very nice looking outfit, bracelets, a wedding ring, and was that a real Rolex watch? Damn, this family was probably loaded given the accessories that the mother wore. It was nice to contemplate about it, but Robert was not willing to put himself at risk.
Ding.
The bell rang as the door swung open to the diner again and a woman that clung onto her jacket as she walked inside. Her shoes stopped shuffling against the floor as she stopped and looked at who was sitting at the booth. Clinging tightly at the front of her jacket, she took a step back, her eyes not leaving the man that was sitting at the booth.
"Can I help you?" one of the waitresses asked the woman with a smile upon her lips.
She really wanted some help, but not the type where it would put the life of others in danger. "N-no," she shook her head as she took another step back, "I got the wrong place." With those words, she quickly hurried outside and hoped that she wasn't being spotted.
Taking the last sip of his coffee, Robert threw a couple of bills on the table. Times like these, even after committing a murder, he was feeling generous. As he turned around to head out the door, he collided with one of those kids that was heading back to the table. A blond haired little boy who said 'excuse me' before heading back to his parents. Robert only shook his head and headed out of the diner.
"Got back in time for the food," the blond kid said as he began to wolf down the french fries that he had ordered.
"Kevin take it easy!" Kate said to him, "you don't want an upset stomach."
Kevin knew that he should have taken his time in consuming those delicious fries, but he had been so hungry that he just couldn't wait. Lunchtime hadn't been served at the McCallister house this afternoon due to this celebration that his sisters had asked for after finishing school. Every year the family came to this dinner to celebrate the end of a successful school year and an enjoyable summer. In a way, it made Kevin happy to see his family members getting along with one another. He smiled when he saw both Becky and Linnie splitting a hamburger with one another, after they had been cold with one another for weeks, and that Megan was doing better. Buzz hadn't picked on him ever since the car ride to Megan's soccer game during the school year, and Jeff hadn't teased him as of late, though Kevin knew those moments with Jeff were rare unlike Buzz.
As the rest of the family continued to eat their food, Megan ate the last of her french fries and spoke up. "Guys," she spoke up, "me and Linnie were thinking where we should go for our next Christmas vacation."
"Oh yeah?" Peter McCallister inquired and looked at his daughters. The Christmas vacation for this year had been on the back of his mind but he had been too busy with work that he had forgotten about it. "Where were you guys thinking about?"
An excited smile came upon Linnie's lips as she looked at Megan and then at the rest of the family. "Florida!"
"What?" Kevin asked as if he hadn't heard her properly. "Florida for Christmas?
"Think about it Kevin," Megan jumped in, "it will be warm, we can go to the beach, play volleyball, and best of all we can go to Disneyland!"
Kevin looked at Linnie and Megan and then over to Becky who remained silent throughout the whole conversation. "But there's no snow in Florida and no Christmas trees. How will it be Christmas without a Christmas tree over there?"
"What is it with you and Christmas trees?" Buzz asked as Kevin turned his attention on his older brother, "its just a dumb plastic tree that you decorate once in a year and throw it back in the attic."
"That's not what I did last year jerk face," Kevin shot back at his brother with a glare upon his eyes.
"Hey, hey!" Kate scolded Kevin for those use of words, "Kevin I don't want to hear those words coming out of your mouth again."
"He started it mom!" Kevin retorted.
"And I'm putting an end to it," Kate replied, "both of you mind your manners, understood?" she said as she looked at Buzz, who rolled his eyes, and Kevin, who only let out a sigh and leaned against the back of the booth with his arm folded across his chest.
Megan and Linnie looked at each other in silence and both knew what they were thinking. Linnie couldn't believe that after being excited about a family trip, it would turn into an argument and the excitement would be ruined because of a silly debacle.
"If you guys don't like then we won't go to Florida," Megan suddenly spoke up.
Linnie rolled her eyes at her sister's response. Whenever something didn't go as planned, Megan would change her mind at that moment and that only made the situation worse. She turned her attention to her other sister and asked, "what do you think about the trip, Becky? You haven't said anything about it."
"I don't care where we go as long as we're not left home alone again," her sister said before taking a sip of her soda.
"No one is going to be left home alone," Peter interjected before Kate did. He could sense that his wife was getting very vexed between Buzz's and Kevin's argument, Megan's attitude, and Becky's constant reminder that her and Kevin were left home alone. "I think Florida is a good idea for a trip. We could away from the cold weather for a couple of days at least."
"That's one of the reasons why we thought about it," Linnie said, "I would rather be doing something during the week of Christmas than staying indoors. Also, Disneyland will be fun too...for all of us."
"We'll think about it," Kate, who had calmed down, smiled to her daughter. "I mean, not think about it but definitely consider it."
"All in favor say 'aye,'" Buzz said and raised his hand within the group followed by Jeff, Linnie, and Megan.
It took a moment for Becky to think about it. Kevin did have a point but at the same time, she could really use a change of scenery especially what had happened last year. Slowly, she raised her hand in the air.
"I say 'no,'" Kevin shook his head and refused to raise his hand.
"Five 'yes' and one 'no'. Florida it is," Buzz said as if he was going to be the one ordering the plane tickets.
It had taken a moment for Amy to catch her breath after running out of the diner. Out of all the places, why did he have to be there? A part of her feared that he had seen her, but if he had, he would have grabbed her. I'm getting too paranoid about this Amy thought as she leaned her head against the steering wheel of the car and closed her eyes. Having no other place to go, the car was her temporary home before this was resolved...if it was ever going to be resolved. However, she couldn't keep her car parked by the diner for days. People would think that there was something suspicious about it. If her memory served her correct, there was an abandoned building right across from town where she could stay. She didn't know if anyone else lurked about those corners.
Only one way to find out.
Turning on the engine of the car, she proceeded to drive out of the driveway of the diner and over to her destination where she hoped she would be at peace until the 19th of September.
