Danny sat in the living room, enjoying a tuna melt in front of the crackling fire with the three things that mattered most in his life. While he loved Vicky and had been looking forward to giving his growing girls the mother they needed, he knew DJ was right. With the help of Joey, Jesse, and now Becky, his girls already had everything they needed. But did he?
The doorbell interrupted Danny's train of thought. "I'll get it," cried Michelle, and Stephanie was right behind her. "Ask who it is first, Michelle," Danny instructed.
"Who is it?" Michelle asked. "Vicky!" came the reply from the other side. Danny stood frozen for a moment, mouth agape, before sending the girls upstairs and letting Vicky in.
"Vicky, what are you doing here?" Danny asked.
"Danny, can we talk?" she asked. Danny nodded and motioned for her to sit down on the sofa. "Danny, I - " she started.
"You look worried, is everything alright?" Danny asked. She may have just broken his heart, but Danny cared about Vicky and wanted to be there to support her in any way that he could.
"Danny, I turned down the job in New York," Vicky responded. Danny opened his mouth to respond, but she cut him off. "Before you say anything, let me finish. I am not giving up my dream for you. Well, I might be, but after we talked I thought about you and the girls and what it would be like to finally move in here and get married and start our family together. And I realized that sometimes dreams change. As I said, I do love you and I know we could do long-distance again if we had to, but that's not what I want anymore, Danny. And besides, I think it would get exhausting going back and forth between New York and California for the next nine months. I mean with the time difference and everything, I don't - "
"Vicky, wait!" Danny cut her off again. "You said to start our family? And nine months? Vicky…"
"Danny, I'm pregnant." Vicky's voice broke and a smile crept across her face. Danny jumped up from the couch. "Pregnant?!" he shouted. "How? When? Who?!"
"Danny!" Vicky admonished, standing up after him.
"I- I'm sorry, Vick," Danny sputtered, "I'm just a little in shock here, I mean, I - we, we're… pregnant." Suddenly, Danny's eyes glazed over and collapsed back on the couch. "Oh my God, Danny!" Vicky cried.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the kitchen door, the three Tanner girls were listening intently.
"What are they talking about? Are they getting back together?" Michelle asked.
"I can't really tell. It sounds like they're yelling," DJ responded. Then Joey came downstairs. "Hey, girls. What's going on?" he asked.
"Vicky's here," Stephanie replied, "We thought she might be asking Dad to get back together, but we just heard Dad yelling, so I don't know." Joey hesitated for a moment. He knew he should tell the girls to mind their business and give their father some privacy, but at this point, the whole family was too invested. "Let me hear," he finally said, motioning for the girls to give him some room. As he did so, Jesse and Rebecca came downstairs, with their arms around each other.
"Did you guys make up?" DJ asked her aunt and uncle.
"We sure did," Becky replied, "After so many years together, these arguments just keep getting resolved faster. You learn what's really important: your love for each other." Becky smiled.
"Have mercy!" her husband replied, pulling her in for what clearly was not their first makeout session that evening.
"Hate to interrupt your make-up makeout, but we've got a situation here," said Stephanie, "Vicky just came over, and DJ heard Dad yelling at her." Concerned, Jesse and Becky moved closer to the door to listen. "What are they saying now?" Jesse asked.
"I can't tell. It sounds like Vicky might be crying! Joey responded. Everyone pushed their way closer to the door.
Back in the living room, Danny had regained his composure (and consciousness) and was talking to Vicky on the couch.
"I'm sorry, Vicky. I was just in shock. I don't how, I mean I do know how it happened, but…" Vicky nodded. "Danny, I know exactly how you feel. I'm still in shock. I mean, I had been feeling a little off the past couple of days, but I figured I was just anxious about my meeting with the network. Then, when I called my mom to tell her that we broke up, I mentioned it to her and she said I needed to take a pregnancy test. So I did, and now here we are."
"Wow. Vicky, don't get me wrong. I am happy about this. So happy. The happiest man alive, in fact, but there are already nine people and a golden retriever living in this house. Plus you, that makes ten people. I mean, where are we going to put a baby?"
"Oh, Danny, I'm sure we'll figure it out. By the time the baby actually gets here, DJ will be off at college, so we'll have an extra bedroom. And besides, the baby can stay in our room for a while anyway. Look, it may not be the most conventional family structure in the world, but if the Tanner family has taught me anything, it's that there's always room for one more." Danny smiled. "Oh, you know I love to hear that, but what about us? We have a wedding to plan, and then there's jour job. Where are you going to work? That was your dream job! What about the Barbara Walters doll?!" Danny exclaimed. Vicky reached over and gently touched Danny's arm. "Danny, calm down! You're getting hysterical again." Danny's face softened and he took a deep breath. "As for my job, when I turned down the New York position and told them I wanted to stay in San Francisco, they were so desperate to keep me that they offered me a new job as a field reporter on the West Coast! I'll still have to do some traveling, but the network is going to fly me back and forth. Sure, It's not a national anchor job, but for you, and the girls, and, now this little guy," she said, gesturing to her stomach, "it's worth it. I love you, Danny."
"I love you, too," Danny replied, leaning in for a kiss. "Vicky, that's great and all, but I'm a traditional guy. I feel like we should be married before we have a baby."
"You know, my mother felt the exact same way, but I told her and now I'm telling you, Danny, I don't care about having a giant wedding with all the fanfare. After all that we've been through I would be okay with running down to the courthouse tomorrow! What matters to me is that we put all of this long distance, back and forth nonsense behind us. You were right, Danny. It's time for us to settle down and start our lives together." Danny smiled. "It makes me so happy to hear you say that. You know, I never wanted you to have to choose between me and your career. I would have supported you no matter what. I just thought that with us being engaged, you find something a little closer to home. That's all."
"Danny, I understand completely. I guess I just got used to us being long-distance so I didn't think it would be that big of a deal. I'm sorry, Danny. I should have talked to you about it first."
"Well, Vicky, you're here now so that's all water under the bridge. All that matters to me now is you, the girls, and our baby."
"BABY?!" several voices shouted from the other side of the kitchen door. Danny and Vicky laughed.
"Well, I guess we don't have to worry about telling everyone," Vicky said.
"Alright, you eavesdroppers. Get in here!" Danny called. Jesse, Becky, Joey, and the girls swarmed into the living room and embraced the happy couple with a chorus of various congratulations.
"Are you guys really gonna have a baby?" Stephanie asked.
"That's right," Vicky responded, "Next September, you girls are gonna have a new brother or sister."
"Daddy, does this mean that you and Vicky are still getting married?" Michelle asked.
"Yes, Sweetie. Hey, Vicky, I just had a great idea. Is your mom still planning on coming into town next weekend?" asked Danny.
"Yes, she is. Why?" Vicky asked her fiancee.
"Why don't we all go up to Lake Tahoe? We could get married at the - "
"Oh, God, please don't say it," Jesse groaned.
"FABULOUS Ali Baba Hotel Wedding Chapel!" he finished. The adults groaned, remembering their last trip several years prior.
"Danny, are you sure you wanna do that? You don't think the place is bad luck or something?" Jesse asked.
"Why not?" Danny replied, "Vicky and I talked about it. We're ready to get married and we don't want a huge wedding. Most of the people I love already live in my house, and we can bring our parents with us. How about it, Vicky? What do you say? Will you marry me next weekend in Lake Tahoe?"
"Well, my mother is going to hate it, but I am giving her her first grandchild so she can't stay mad at me for too long! Why not? Let's do it!" Vicky exclaimed. The family cheered. Danny pumped his fists in the air and then pulled his bride in for yet another kiss.
After several minutes, the excited chatter had died down and Danny broke the silence. "Boy, all this celebrating has made me hungry. Anyone else?" the family responded with a chorus of various "Me toos".
"I could make pizza!" Vicky suggested. The suggestion was met with a lukewarm response from the Tanners.
"Uh, Vicky…" Stephanie stuttered. Vicky glanced around the room, noting the nervous looks on the girls' faces. "Oh, don't worry. I learned my lesson! No more goat cheese. Just plain old pepperoni pizza. And besides, I'm already starting to have morning sickness. I don't think even I would be able to stomach a goat cheese pizza at this point!" Vicky chuckled and made her way into the kitchen. The girls sighed with relief.
Danny Tanner sat back and smiled as he watched his fiancee walk into the kitchen. Vicky was here to stay, and she was having their baby. Surrounded by his whole family eating pizza that night, Danny Tanner felt like a very lucky man.
