Asuka's Whopper Day
A/N: Welp this is my first authors notes and my first waff one shot. I hope you enjoy it. I still need to fix dialogue, and I hope with time I get better at it. Aslo thanks to GUM, and SheriffJohnStone for beta reading my oneshot. Anyways without further ado, lets get waffy.
Shinji and Asuka walked the streets of Tokyo-3. Its streets were as busy as ever. To anyone else living in this city felt like a nightmare, but to Asuka and Shinji, they had been through worse, nothing they couldn't handle.
"So have you thought of a place to eat Baka Shinji?", Asuka snickered to Shinji, still in their school uniforms.
"Uhm ahh, you were serious?", Shinji said while smiling sheepishly which granted him a bonk to the head.
"YOU THOUGHT I WAS JOKING BAKA SHINJI! YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE ME OUT. HOW CAN YOU BE SO DENSE", Asuka thundered while stomping the floor.
Shinji defeatedly kept pace with her, though she quickly overtook him. He looked everywhere, trying to find someplace to eat. I don't have a lot of money, those budget cuts Misato spoke of took a lot of our pilot money. I need to settle for something cheap.
Asuka looked at the oblivious Shinji in anger, though it wasn't hateful. He was looking everywhere for a place to grab a bite. Do I have to do everything myself, can't even ask me out. God how hopeless you are. You better take us, uh, I mean me somewhere nice. She kept looking at him until he looked at her as if a lightbulb turned on inside his head and soon, they sprinted towards the location he had envisioned. I hope you like it; I really hope.
"WHATTTT', Asuka screamed at Shinji. She had hoped for a fine dining restaurant, like the ones where adults go to. The ones with fancy napkins and the utensils that are perfectly aligned. Instead, what stood before Asuka was Shinji Ikari's version of fine dining.
"Out of all the places you could have chosen, A BURGER KING?"
"Sorry Asuka, I don't have a lot of cash due to the cuts Misato talked about. I would have gone somewhere nicer, but my account is almost empty." Shinji checked his phone to look for coupons to use in the BK, while Asuka looked at him, her face turning red.
Dammit he knows its empty, good thing he isn't the smartest. He will never know I wasted-
"Ah, here we go, how about this Asuka?". Shinji showed her a combo for only 888,61 yen, it had two whoppers, two large sodas, and two small fries.
"Whatever Baka Shinji, get me something to eat", Asuka said.
Both pilots entered the BK; there was hardly any line, and most tables were empty. Asuka headed towards one of the tables with a lack of care, she wanted the day to be over. All I wanted from you was something nice, how hard do I have to berate you, so you understand.
"Hey Asuka, didn't think I'd catch you here", a sweet voice said from behind Asuka. She turned around and saw it was her classmate Hikari Horaki. She was wearing a BK uniform, she had a black hat, with a shirt which half looked like a whopper and the other was black, she also wore black pants and shoes. "Huh, I didn't know you worked Hikari?". Asuka felt relieved to see a friendly face other than Shinji.
"Yeah, I got this job to get some extra cash for things I want, what about you?"
"Oh, I stopped by, told the Baka to take me to eat, and brought me here. Can you believe it? I would have rather gone out to a fancy restaurant than come to this shit hole." Asuka did not feel impressed with Shinji's stunt. She wanted someplace where she could be with him; she wanted to understand her feelings towards him. She wanted to know him better but instead, it's as if he wasn't even trying at all to learn about her.
"Well, Asuka that sucks but hey I have a proposition. My sister is trying to hook her friend up and I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date with him, you know get to know him and that. Please Asuka, do me this favor she is really annoying me", Hikari appealed to Asuka, she almost went on her knees to beg.
Asuka looked at her friend while she pleaded, she had a concerned look, she didn't want to give Shinji the wrong idea, but she wanted to see if Shinji reacted to the date. Maybe he can develop some understanding of 'dropping hints' before I drop him myself. "Fine I'll do it, better than anything going on here at the moment", Asuka replied while looking at Shinji ordering the food. He looked nervous as always, even when ordering. Her classmate looked at Shinji as well and began to smirk at Asuka, which prompted Asuka to go on the offensive.
"Don't get any funny thoughts, we finished school and came here, that's all".
"Didn't you just say you wanted him to take you somewhere nice". Hikari giggled as Asuka's face became redder.
"Oh well maybe I won't go to your little date you told me about", Asuka replied sarcastically to Hikari which prompted her to stop and laugh a bit because Asuka couldn't take a joke. As far as everyone knew, nobody truly knew what she felt for the Third Child. After having to synchronize with him and being saved by him two days ago when she went into that volcano to retrieve an Angel, she began to feel different towards him.
"Oh, hi Hikari" Shinji greeted her as he sat down with the food.
"Hey Shinji, well it looks like you two got your food, I'll leave you to it. Remember what I told you Asuka, bye" she said as she waved and went back to the kitchen.
"What was that about", Shinji wondered as he removed the wrapper of the burger, Asuka followed suit and replied to Shinji's comment. "Oh that, nothing much, just going on a date with some hot dude on Friday." She smirked as she carefully selected her word hoping to have Shinji react.
"Oh ok, that's nice I guess", Shinji replied as he bit into his burger.
Asuka played with her food hoping Shinji gave her something else, other than that half-ass reply.
"That's it?", Asuka grumbled, looking at Shinji drink his soda. "I am going on a date and all you say is 'ok cool'".
"Sorry, did you want me to say something else", he replied with confusion.
"God your hopeless Third Child, let's just eat. Hopefully, my date takes me somewhere nice and special." She looked at Shinji and he gave no reaction, he kept eating as if nothing had happened. Asuka became mad for a second but let it go, it wasn't worth her time, her interest was beginning to fade.
Shinji was on his cello practicing; his cello was picking up dust. He played with passion though he always played the same thing, same tone, same notes, no changes. Sometimes I wish I could play differently, learn something new, experience something new, I always say that, but I never follow through.
CLAP
CLAP
CLAP
Shinji turned around to see who was clapping, only to find Asuka standing behind him in the green dress that she had bought specifically for her 'hot date'. "Wow Shinji I didn't know you played the cello", Asuka said with much amazement at his skill.
"Oh well it's not much, I used to play the cello when I was five and practiced though I've never improved on it".
"If you don't improve your skill then why do you keep playing?", Asuka asked him.
"Because nobody told me to stop".
"Well, it looks like you should reconsider that Baka Shinji, girls like boys who play music". She left the room to change her clothes, she had hoped Shinji would get the hint but even with the talent he had, he was still as dense as ever. "Asuka I've noticed something, weren't you on your date?".
Finally. "Yeah, but I dumped him at the carnival. He didn't take me anywhere to eat, the guy really thought he could buy me with that".
"Maybe he didn't have any money", Shinji tried to defend the boy she was with, which made her a bit mad.
"You idiot the guy was loaded in cash, not rich but he had money, he was just a cheap stake." Asuka disappeared into the bathroom leaving Shinji all alone, he continued playing his cello. After some minutes he got bored and decided to listen to music on his SDAT while reading something. An hour had passed and Asuka emerged in her yellow shirt and blue shorts, she sat in a chair next to the table with a magazine, she began to mock read it, she was looking at Shinji, she was blushing a bit from having to hide such feelings from him, but she wanted for him to do the moves not her, she wanted this to be like the movies. She closed her magazine and laid her head on the wooden table. She continued to look at Shinji while tapping the table with her finger.
"Hey, Shinji, do you want to kis-"
"Ah, Asuka, I forgot to tell you."
"You idiot, I was about to say something, at least have the decency to wait", Asuka grumbled at him.
"Sorry Asuka, I didn't mean to, I-"
"Just get over it and spit it out". Shinji nodded, "Well I wanted to know if you… wanted to go out again." Shinji was extremely nervous about asking such a question even more so to a girl like Asuka. However, her reaction was different to what Shinji expected, she was blushing, trying to avoid eye contact with him and hiding with her magazine.
"Uhm, I didn't think you'd ask... oh well Uhm, sure Shinji, but where will we go?", Asuka was genuinely surprised that he had taken initiative, surprised was an underestimation she was in shock that the boy that was as dense as rock had just asked her out.
"Oh well remember that place you wanted to go to on Wednesday? Well, I was able to scoop out two reservations", he said while rubbing the back of his head.
He did what, my God Shinji. Is this happening, the idiot is no longer just an idiot, he is a cute baka." Sure, let's go, that's all you had to say", Asuka replied while looking at Shinji with a smile.
The next day rolled around, and after countless hours of listening to old stories of the Second Impact from their headteacher and going through synch rates at NERV; Shinji and Asuka were able to go on date. They walked down the same streets they had been on Wednesday only this time Shinji had made a change that had Asuka wanting to know about him and even wanting to stay by him.
"Huh, what do you mean our names are not there?", Shinji replied confused to the young adult who was behind the counter of the fancy restaurant Asuka wanted. "I booked with three days of advance; I don't understand"
The man replied with an annoying voice. "Look kid if it's not here then you can't get in, besides don't you kids have better places to be than a restaurant like this."
Shinji began to look sad that he had failed such a simple task and began to think Asuka would berate him. Little did he know, her anger was brewing. Nobody talks to my baka like that only I can do such a thing, you bastard.
"Hey asshole, I'll have you know my partner here is a pilot and so am I, we defend this stupid city from the Angels, and this is your way of repaying us? He even made reservations, but that's ok I suggest you roll up that list and shove it up to your ass. Come on Shinji, these bastards aren't worth our money". Asuka took Shinji's hand and pulled him away, still upset and not wanting to talk, he began to walk away slowly as the man looked dumbfounded at the girl's aggressive remark.
"Shinji are you ok", Asuka worried.
'Yeah. I am sorry Asuka that I couldn't get you to where you wanted.", Shinji replied with sadness, he felt upset at failing such a simple task.
"Look Shinji stop worrying, maybe your dumb brain forgot but that's ok, we were just going to waste a lot of money on something that's trash."
"No, but…"
"But what?"
Asuka looked at Shinji and realized he was looking down at his hand. She began to look down and saw that she still held his hand, she began to blush. She tried to let go of his hand to prevent this date from turning into a disaster.
"No don't", Shinji exclaimed, this made Asuka jump a bit. "Uhm sorry, I meant to say you don't have to remove it, keep it there."
Asuka was no longer surprised, she had accepted her new baka. "I wasn't planning on removing it either way". She smirked at Shinji which made him gulp a bit. She caressed his hand with the one holding it, she brushed her finger through his soft hand, it felt like an incredibly soft pillow. She raised her head, which lead to her gaze connecting with his as both looked into each other eyes. Asuka began to close in.
"I knew a place we could go to", Shinji broke in.
"Dammit, Shinji don't interrupt me". Asuka was about to have herself a beautiful moment with her Baka but that's his thing, always barging in on the worst times possible. "Where is this place?"
Asuka and Shinji laughed as both talked while sitting on different ends of the table. Shinji's quick thinking saved what could have been a disastrous date. He brought her to the only other place he could think of as romantic enough or more so good enough to please her. When the first entered the restaurant, Hikari gave herself a nice fright; Asuka and Shinji together and smiling. They had ordered the usual combo: two whoppers, two large fries, and two large sodas.
When the pilots sat down, Asuka noticed her bag had something else in it: it was a crown, and it had a note.
I THINK HE WOULD LIKE THIS ON YOU.
-LOVE HIKARI
Asuka placed the BK crown usually for kids on her head, and Shinji started laughing like he hadn't laughed before, but it wasn't mocking her it was of genuine happiness at seeing her in such a cute way. After Shinji and Asuka stopped laughing, they began to eat. After the pilots finished, they said goodbye to Hikari and went back to the apartment. On the way home, they held hands, not knowing what to think of it other than safety, but deep down both knew it meant something else.
"Shinji…", Asuka uttered. Shinji looked at her, he saw her cute crown while still wearing her school uniform, his eyes meet hers and they stare at each other before Asuka broke the ice.
"Come here, idiot". Asuka moved towards Shinji, letting go of his hand and placing both hands on his shoulders, she embraced his lips. For a minute Asuka felt in heaven, she wanted him to do such a move, though his stand with the hand holding made her consider the fact she liked him, and he liked her, if not already obvious by the quick kiss.
Shinji's eyes widened when Asuka kissed him, he felt a sensation of joy for what was a split second of paradise.
"Well, there you go Shinji, hoped you liked it otherwise this will be your last". Asuka looked at him waiting for a review of her first kiss.
"I-I-I- "
"' I liked it' is what you are trying to say Baka Shinji. You're welcome", she smiled at Shinji, looking proud of her first kiss. Shinji began to look at her, he slowly approached. Asuka began to get ready for her moment. The happiest moment of both their lives, a queen kissed by her beautiful and cute but stupid king.
