Summary: Asuka has been going back in time over and over again trying to change the course of events, but the more times she failed the more she changed…. (AU) (Shinji x Asuka).

Wife of Obsession: Kyoko's Horror

Never in her life would Kyoko Zeppelin Sohryu think that she would look at her daughter and gasp in horror at what she had become. When Asuka entered Unit 02 to fight the angle with Shinji she felt that something was wrong with her daughter. She was flooded with her daughter's memories and it came at her with the force of an avalanche. By the time she woke up the teens had already left the Eva, leave her alone to ponder on what she had learned.

Asuka was a time traveler, her first timeline was a disaster beyond imagine. What she went through had caused her to harbor a hatred for the younger Ikari for actions and indecisions that he had not yet commit. Watching her daughter mentally and physically abuse an innocent boy was gut wrenching.

Don't get her wrong, Kyoko was appalled at what Shinji had done in the end of the first timeline. That's the thing of it all, that was all localized to the end of one timeline. In addition to Shinji's defense, the boy was not in his right state of mind and was manipulated into events that played out. He did not have any genuine ill will; he was just so broken that he was not fit for anything.

While understandable why her daughter wanted to exact righteous vengeance on the poor boy, the events that followed were not any way excusable. Revenge is not the answer! While it is easy for her to say that considering that those events did not happen to her, the evidence is how that timeline played out to be worse than the first.

Shinji still fell in love with her baby girl in the second timeline causing Kyoko to question just how broken Shinji was. Apparently being witness to Asuka having a nightmare about her mother and concluding that they might be more alike than either of them thought was enough to draw the boy in. Then again, it seemed like it was love at first sight for Shinji, but Kyoko was very limited on what she got from Shinji's perspective as of right now. Either way Shinji had latched on to Asuka hoping that if he was nice and apologetic, she would start to be nicer to him.

Unfortunately, she did not become nicer to Shinji until she started on her second retry. In fact, as time went by Asuka became progressively worse in her abuse. Being smart enough to hide evidence of her abuse is not something she was proud of. Then again, Shinji would cover for her and make up excuses, so she was not sure how much of the hiding was Asuka and how much had Shinji helped her out.

Experiencing Instrumentality for the second time made Asuka reflect on her abusive behavior and showed her that Shinji loved her. The love for her despite the hate that she spat at him made rethink her relationship with Shinji. She was not sure, but what she gathered Asuka would always spend some time in Instrumentality before she would get sent back. Every time Asuka would learn about the people and the events that played out.

The third timeline was where Asuka took the final plunge into obsession. The problem was that Asuka was still mentally unstable and went from hating him with a passion to loving him within a blink of an eye. The sudden shift made the mother think that Asuka never hated the boy, she just felt betrayed and hurt by him and wanted revenge for his wrong doings. When she learned that Shinji loved her, the revelation was the little push she needed to finally accept her feelings for the male pilot of Unit 01.

As bad luck would have it, Asuka having a subtlety of an erupting volcano and a constant need to be around her crush was a dangerous combination that scared the younger Ikari. Everyone in that timeline saw how Asuka was extremely clingy with Shinji and that she would not let any female near him except for Misato and Hikari. Everyone in their social circle that cared enough to confront them tried to get Asuka to back off a bit and give the poor boy some breathing room. There efforts were in vain as before anyone could take any action Asuka had killed Rei.

Rei was confused by Asuka's strange behave and would not have thought much of it, but she saw how much her daughters stalking was scaring Shinji. Rei went to confront Asuka on her behavior, unfortunately Rei made the mistake of going alone. Asuka was enraged and saw the first child as a threat to relationship with Shinji. For some reason the information that she acquired ends there, right after her daughter commits a murder to keep the boy all to herself.

It seems like Asuka went through so many resets that even though Kyoko was knocked out for some time her mind did not have enough time to process everything. Why she know the chronological she did not know, probably because Asuka herself knows the order somehow and because of that she will know the order of all of the events when she learns everything.

Now that she thought about the strangeness of it all, why was it easy for Asuka to play everyone like she had? The girl was definitely not subtle about what she was doing, bordering on not caring if they would see through her. Why did Shinji develop a family sense of Rei? As far as she knows he did not have that in the previous timelines. When did Asuka find out that Rei was a clone of Yui Ikari? Did Asuka do something that in the previous loop that are affecting events as they are now? Looks like she will have to wait until she has the missing information.

The question remains, why did she become so fixated on the male Eva pilot known as Shinji Ikari? She became heartbroken when she found her sad conclusion. They were two sad, abandoned kids that were afraid and starved of the love they so desperately craved. Shinji's true and honest love for Asuka became like a drug for her poor love starved daughter. Both of them were cared for by others, but it could not fill the void in their souls that being with each other did. It did not matter how much pain they went through or how last minute the realization, they needed love like an alcoholic needed their alcohol.

Kyoko wept in despair, she contributed to breaking her daughter. She helped those monster hurt her baby girl and now she became a love staved monster that will do anything to get the boy of her desires. She could only pray that things get better.

This one was kind of quick. I came up with this in response to a review I got from Wicked.A about some of the opportunities that I block myself off from happening and how it seemed a bit strange how things progressed in the second chapter. I wanted to also reveal some of what happened in the previous loops to lead Asuka down the dark path. I was thinking of how the mothers in the Evas and I was thinking if what would happen if Kyoko saw into her insane daughter's head. I figured that I could use this to turn some accidental oddities into an actual thing. Is it good or a bad attempt at filling holes. There is more to come, I might have some chapters where I look into a single characters head to see how they are processing things as a way of trying to fill some holes or give incite to events that I did not create so well.

I hate love triangles, squares, pentagons, what have you, but I understand why they are used in some cases. I think my main problem is the drama that stems from love triangles, although I will tolerate it if the love triangle has a good purpose and not a complete waste of time loaded with pointless drama.

As for Rei, I don't see her being romantic with Shinji, considering that she is related to him. Any romance would be killed of the moment it is revealed that they are blood related. I have seen a few Fanfics where Shinji already has a sixth sense of Rei being his sister/cousin but I pondered on the review and I thought that this new direction with something more than it seems is what I want to work with.

As much as I like giving shout outs, I think I am going to give it a rest for right now. What are you thoughts on this so far?
