Wife of Obsession: Dark Reflections
Gendo Ikari was a man that was used to being feared by those around him. Never would he have thought that he would find himself afraid of one of the Eva pilots, much less a girl that was obsessed with his son.
The Scenario had been played out perfectly all these years and SEELE are none the wiser. Sure, they more than likely suspected his betrayal, but he was too important to get rid as of right now. Everything was in motion and soon he will be reunited with his beloved wife.
It was on the Over the Rainbow that anomalies started appearing, when the second child displayed odd behaviors toward the third child. Her psychological profile indicated that she had a deep seat narcissism that should have caused conflict between the two pilots. That narcissism was suspiciously removed from her interactions with Shinji, she displayed gentleness and patience with the boy during their interactions that should not have been there.
Another oddity was that those around them were dismissing strange events that were so evidently out of place. When she proposed that the three pilots moved in with the two guardians no one gave it so much as a second thought. Gendo refused the request and left it without any room for discussion. Whatever it is that the girl is doing that is affecting his subordinates he did not want influencing Rei. The commander of NERV ordered her to not engage with the second child and to observe people's reactions to her, but to remain discreet about it.
Then the girl in question came into his office and asked for some time to discuss something of importance. Gendo almost dismissed the girl at first but saw an opportunity to see what was causing her weird behavior. What the girl revealed shocked him to the core and left a feeling of dread in the man.
Flashback
"I know about SEELE and your plan on betraying them to reunite with your wife. I will offer you my assistance on one condition that if you violate you be begging for your death." Asuka ended with glare and loaded it with so much killing intent that he would have died on the spot if possible. Gendo had went for his gun to defend himself, but an invisible forcefield materialized and prevented him from getting the firearm. An A.T. field! The gun floated in the air and was bent into a circle, rendering it useless. Shock and disbelief were plastered all over the older Ikari's face while Asuka had vicious smirk accompanied by cold, calculating eyes.
"What do you want?" This was not part of the scenario.
"What I want is should be easy for you to give me. After all you had no problem throwing him away after his mother was sucked into Unit 01." The biting remark from Asuka was obviously referring to Shinji, but what could the girl possibly want with his son? And how did she know all of this information? As if sensing that he was going to question her Asuka started to speak.
"I have been in a seemingly endless loop of going back from Third Impact to the day I meet Shinji. In between these resets I would spend some time in Instrumentality before starting again and you know what I saw when I looked into him? I saw that he genuinely loved me, not some hormonal perverted lust from boys that just wanted to get into my pants. He actually loves me!"
Asuka shouted that last part before giggling in a manner that creped out the cold commando. Not that he would let it show how much the second child was making him uncomfortable. Then the girl collected herself before continuing with her explanation. "I know how to pull your wife out of Unit 01, but we will need to wait until the angles are no longer a threat. I can use Unit 02 to repel SEELE's forces afterwards, until then you will have to keep them off of our backs."
The commando was frozen in shock at what the girl had just said. She could get Yui out of the Eva! The commander was about to probe her for evidence to her claims, but he was then hit with images that it took him a few seconds to understand what they were. Memories of the future… Yui! She was pulled out!
"I accept." It was a true testament to his mask of indifference to not show the inner storm that was raging in the NERV commander. Asuka smiled at his immediate responds and then left out the door.
End Flashback
When Gendo had time to process what had transpired the man went from excitement and joy from reuniting with Yui to dread and horror at what the implications were. Not only does his scenario fail, but SEELE comes out as the winners of the game despite having a time traveler against them. Did SEELE know more than they should? Gendo suddenly found himself double guessing everything. Somewhere along the line his thoughts drifted to his son and the female pilot that was obsessed with him.
Gendo had sold his son out to an insane girl who coveted his affections. The difference between the girl's personality and what her profile said about her was because she was a time traveler. Why Shinji? What was it that she experienced that caused her to cling to his son? If events played out like they were supposed to in her first timeline, then the second would come to hate and push away the third. Did the constant time looping have something to do with it? Instrumentality?
The father that abandoned his son all those years ago could not help but hope that he was making the right decision. Looking at that girl and hearing that she was willing to side with him out of an obsession for his son was like looking though a dark mirror and seeing his dark reflection. Was that what he looked like? Was that what others would see him as if they knew about his ambitions? Would Yui see him like that? Shinji? He could only hope that the deal he struck with the devil would be worth it, because he did not think that he could win against what the second child had become.
To say that Asuka was drained after the meeting with her father-in-law would be an understatement. The meeting and moving into the apartment that Misato and Shinji were living in were all within the same day that they had arrived at Tokyo-3.
The meeting with Gendo dredged up a lot of bad memories and insecurities that she had preferred to keep in buried so far deep within her that she would forget about them.
The first loop was her second chance and she wasted it to torment her mate. She continued to lie to herself about her feeling and took everything out on him. Unbeknownst to her at the time, her lasting out had a very contradictory set of effects on her. If she were to point out a positive out of her abuse, it would be that venting her anger was flushing her hatred out of her system.
Regretfully, she did not stop abusing Shinji, the torment just got darker. The red-haired demon of hate went from hitting and verbal attacks to stealing his warmth and isolating him from others. Maybe even back then she was still clinging to him, but her self-deception twisted everything into something wrong, something dark.
Going though Instrumentality a second time was an extremely mixed bag for Asuka. On one hand the joy she felt when she saw that Shinji would love her no matter what is something she would never imagine. Then the crushing reality of what she did came down on her like an exploding N2 mine. The guilt of her actions weighed on her as if Unit 02 was crushing her. She wanted to desperately take back everything that she did to her Shinji, but it was to late. Worse, there was no way to try and make up for it, she is the only one that remembers since all of that technically did not happen with the events taking place in a dead timeline.
Asuka started again with the goal to stop the eventual tragedy and this time to claim Shinji with the caring gentleness the boy deserved. Things did not go as she wanted however, she overcompensated from being a vengeful tormentor to a clingy yandere stalker that would kill any girl that she saw as a threat. Gendo had witnessed her murdering Rei in the third timeline and used it to manipulate her to his will. She was in the ironic situation where she learned almost everything from Gendo's side of the scenario but could not do anything as he would separate her from Shinji.
Thank all that is holy when she found out that the next loop her father-in-law did not retain any memories from that loop. She spent later loops learning and plotting for the final loop in which she will break this never-ending cycle and be with her beloved Shinji forever. Especially now that she figured out a way to acquire the power of the angles.
Speaking of which, when she acquired said powers the German pilot discovered that the changes followed into the next loop. Was her constant looping somehow related to Third Impact or the angles? She did not know, all she cared about was her dear husband.
Coming back to her original train of thought, all of this plotting and manipulation made her feel like a monster. Was she any better than Gendo? They were both willing to do horrible things for their soul mates. Gendo crossed the line long before she met the man and she crossed it when she murdered her sister-in-law. Yes, she had abused Shinji in a previous timeline before that, but she always had the terrible feeling of guilt that made its unwanted presence known to her. Guilt that she would always ignore until it was too late. That suffocating sense of guilt was completely and utterly silent when she had murdered Rei. She did not feel guilty over the terrible things she did and would do again if she could be with her beloved Shinji and keep him for herself.
"Asuka are you okay? You have been quiet this entire car ride." Kaji asked with concern evident in his voice. They were finally headed to their new hope with Shinji and Misato to rest after the long day.
"Yes, just tired." Asuka replied, then looked like she was thinking about something for a few seconds before saying "Kaji, I'm sorry for making things awkward between the two of us. After mama died, my father abandoned me, and you were the only guy that got though to me and did not judge and push me away. I thought that you were the only guy that would never leave me and would always care about me. I guess my bad relationship with my dad twisted my perception on father-daughter relationships, so I tricked myself into think my feelings for you were romantic instead of see that you were like a dad to me."
To say Kaji was surprised was an understatement. "No need to apologize kiddo, you had a rough deal in life. I cannot fully express how happy I am to hear that Asuka. What brought this up?"
"I was more curious about the third than I let on. When I looked him up, I saw how similar his life was like to mine and made me rethink a lot of things. Whenever I am with him, I feel happy and at peace, like I am with someone who is like me and understands me." Asuka was of course referring to their similar pasts, leaving out the time travel shenanigans and her romantic feelings for obvious reasons."
"I am glad, Shinji looks like a good kid. I hope everything works out between the two of you."
"Thanks Kaji."
After a while of driving the two finally made it to the apartment building and made their way to their new home.

I was unsure if I wanted to have Asuka make the deal with Gendo in this, but eventually I decided to go for it. She will still make him pay, but I will for now leave the speculation to what will happen to you fine people.
It is official, Asuka has supper powers! I went full Scar Tissue levels of darkness with the abuse Shinji received from our female time looper in the first loop. I was originally unsure if this would be going too far or if this would fit with the dark mental insanity that is infecting Asuka's mind in this Fanfic. In the end, I think that Asuka going to far with "punishing Shinji for his wrong doings" (remember this is not the Shinji that did THAT in the hospital room) before her realization would be something that makes her fall a bit more believable.
Asuka being a time traveler is not a new concept: History Rhymes In Love by BeyondtheDarkside101, Unbroken by Donderkind, and No by Hououza all came before Wife of Obsession (WoO). WoO however is the only Fanfic that I know of that tries to take the idea of a Yandere Asuka seriously. Why? Is it because that everyone sees it as a contradiction (Thank you Ron the True Fan for the review)? The fact that I smashed these two ideas together probably adds to the crazy.
I know that some of the things that Asuka was mulling over in this chapter was basically what Kyoko was going over in the last chapter, but I thought it might be good to add a bit to it and give Asuka's perspective of the events that her mother went over. Cheap way of adding extra content, I know, but I felt that Gendo's section was a bit too short, so I added more of Asuka's ramblings and added the scene between Asuka and Kaji to get her dead crush on the man out of the way.
Next chapter will absolutely be more than ramblings from mentally unstable people. Let's just say that a certain guest's review gave me some ideas for the next chapter.
BeyondtheDarkside101-thank you for the reviews and the offer to proofreading. I had multiple comments on my grammar mistakes, and I think that some of then are things that I am not aware of being mistakes, so they slip though my radar whenever I reread them.
Unfortunately, when I tried using the Private messaging system the character count cut off the chapter in the middle. I am still trying to learn things about this website so when I learn how to send it out for proof reading that is what I will start doing after I finish the chapters.
