Summary: Asuka has been going back in time over and over again trying to change the course of events, but the more times she failed the more she changed…. (AU) (Shinji x Asuka).

Wife of Obsession: Echoes of the Dark Descent

It all started at Asuka's second time experiencing her first meeting with Shinji. Nothing much to talk about: she kept her dress from being blown by the wind, the constant angry expression when she so much as looked at Shinji, and Shinji stayed with his friends instead of going with her to Unit 02. She was determined to avoid the boy that she thought she hated with all her being.

Israfel's arrival proved that this would be impossible. Any and all attempts Asuka pulled to get away from Shinji was denied. She would Not be defenseless to the third child again. Her next plan of attack was to keep insulting and threatening Shinji whenever possible to keep him down and harmless.

"If you try to touch me, I will painfully torture you until you die!"

"Your food tastes worse than the slop they feed to pigs!"

"The only reason people keep you around is that you can pilot Unit 01! Without that no one would want anything to do with you!"

Her attacks were made to assault at any confidence in anything about himself and his relationships that he was a phycological mess before Bardeil even showed up. Part of this was that Asuka started to physically abuse Shinji after he rescued her ungrateful butt from having a volcano as a tome.

"I just saved your life before anyone could react to what was going on and the got lectured since apparently saving you was disobeying my orders! Why can't you be nice to me? What did I ever do to you?"

That set her off and her new habit of hitting Shinji started out with a punch to the gut and a slap to the face. At first, she kept it to small displays of violence that was easy to cover up and make up an excuse if anyone asked about an injury Shinji had, but as time went on and as her mental state worsened, Asuka would increase the severity of her abuse.

"WHY ARE YOU CRYING?! YOU HAVE NOTHING TO CRY ABOUT YOU WEAK PERVERT WIMP! HOW ABOUT I GIVE SOMETHING TO CRY ABOUT!"

Shinji had his left eye stabbed out with a pair of chopsticks that was on the countertop. Shinji said he accidentally stabbed his eye out and Misato was far to obsessed with uncovering Kaji's murder to pay attention to the abuse her surrogate son was suffering. Of course no one else at NERV cared enough about what was going on to separate them. She sometimes wondered if it had to do with her status as an Eva pilot that kept her from being acted against or if people were really that blind to what was going on.

Then Arael came and gave her the mind rape treatment again. What little restraint she had before was thrown out the window after that angel finish defiling her mind. She needed release from her torment and what she did next would forever mark her with shame and guilt.

"Pants down."

Those two words she said after she kick the boy awake would be when she had taken him for herself. Misato was out and Pen Pen was with Hikari's family, no one would save Shinji. It felt good at first, but when she came down from the high from the moment, she was horrified at what she had done. She had done something was worse than what Shinji did back in the first timeline.

Asuka raped Shinji.

She still remembered the terrified eye that looked back at her, begging for some compassion and mercy that would not come for him. Before that look would just enrage her, but now she was sick to her stomach at what she had done. She did not hug or comfort the boy she was using for her own pleasure. Shinji was too terrified of the red demon to put up any form of resistance, he was too badly abused to even think about resisting his tormentor.

Everything played out as it had before, only this time Shinji was too afraid of her to even be in the same room as her unconscious body. When she died again at the hands of the Mass Production Evangelions Asuka thought Shinji did not come to her aid because the boy hated her for all of the torment that she had put him though for a crime that he did not commit in this timeline.

Imagine her surprise when she had seen that the boy still loved her. Why?! She could not understand, the boy was so terrified that he did not seek her out in Instrumentality this second time around. She had to know no matter what, so she used her brief moment in the dying timeline to get a good look into Shinji and find out why.

The time looper got her answer in the form of watching everything from Shinji's point of view in both of her runs though the war. Shinji was awestruck with her at first sight and was smitten from there onward. Love at first site for an innocent boy dragged into a war he wanted no part of.

He didn't do it for the glory, lust, or the stupid plans of his father and SELEE. He just wanted companionship, to not feel alone. Love.

She saw the scenes of Shinji's upbringing and his decline into a broken wreck. Everything came at her so fast that a lot of details were left out, like Rei being Shinji's sister. At the time she had determined that she had seen enough but will later on decide that she needs to know everything. Shinji, her Shinji, was her soul mate. The one who that she was actually looking for but instead she screwed everything up.

Asuka had been so wrapped up in her so called "righteous vengeance" to make her Shinji pay that she didn't do anything this time. In fact she just made things worse, she could have changed the outcome or warned Kaji and Misato about Gendo and SELEE, but instead she made the only male pilot so traumatized that he cannot help them even if he wanted to stop the plots. Shinji's love for her was so great that when she started abusing him it twisted into a form of Stockholm Syndrome.

When Asuka had found herself on the Over the Rainbow for a third time, she had over a dozen emotions and thoughts hit her at once. She was back at her starting point again? Why would a screw up like her be given another chance after she royal ruined her last one? Her final moments in Instrumentality were of her wishing to do things right with Shinji, to take him as hers and become a loving couple that they should have been instead of her being the abusive harpy tormenting her lover over something that was not his fault.

None of that mattered now! She was back! Back with Shinji! Her Shinji before she ruined him! She ran to the landing pad to again reunited with the love that she was to blind to see. This time she would do things right!

Happy Halloween! Since Halloween was coming up, I figure I would try timing the new chapter release with the 31st of October. Of course I end up finishing it on the day that I plan to upload it. I thought to myself that at time travel furious at you and bent on revenge would be scary enough for Halloween, especially with how far our soon to be Yandere took things with our shy hedgehog. I want to make clear that I do not hate Asuka or want her to be some unredeemable villain, but with all that has happened she is mentally broken. Will Asuka be able to redeem herself? Maybe.

I will do another chapter like this with other timeline and try to use other ways to bring flashes of the past into current events. Like when things go downhill Asuka will have flashbacks and nightmares. I feel that this timeline is starting to hog the spotlight a little too much, so I will try to turn down the reference to this timeline in favor of other timelines and the "present" timeline.

I'm planning a twist on the Israfel battle that I am not sure if I want it on the second battle or if I do it with their one encounter taking the angel out on their first try. Let me know what you think in the reviews.
