The accident

A/N: Alright guys, how you all doing? Hopefully good. Anyways, I got this while talking in the Asushin discord server and decided to make it into short one-shot. I also did it because tomorrow I am leaving for Florida to go on vacation to celebrate my 21st bday. It's going to be amazing. I want to thank LionEl_johnson14 and YourBlandestNightmare for beta reading and helping me with typos, you guys are the best. Also, thanks to the Asushin Discord server for helping me develop this idea. Anyways without further ado, lets get waffy.

It was a quiet morning in the Katsuragi apartment, at first. It wasn't always like this, most of the time there would be shouts and quacks coming from the room. It was a rare occasion to have peace and tranquility, especially for Asuka. She had come home from school early. When she arrived, she noticed neither Misato nor Shinji were there, so she had the apartment all to herself.

She walked back and forth, looking for something to do. Usually she would mess with Shinji, play video games, or tease him by calling him Baka; but it felt like the day was going to be longer without him.

She groaned as she fell forward onto the bed. She didn't have anything to do. Hikari had asked her if she wanted to go out shopping, but she had refused. She told her she would be doing synch test later that day. That was a lie. She wanted to come home early to talk with Shinji, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Dammit, baka Shinji. I take a day off for him, only for him, and the idiot goes off with his friends to do God knows what. When he gets home, I am goin-

Asuka's thoughts were cut short when her phone began to ring. She got out of bed and picked it up as quickly as she could. She was confused to say the least. She had expected a call from Kaji, asking her on a date or to marry her. She had even expected Misato, probably asking where she was or telling her something about work. The last thing she expected was Shinji to call her. She didn't waste any time and answered the call.

"What do you want, idiot?" Asuka grumbled into her phone.

She waited for a response, but only heard ruffling. As she was about to ask again, only this time yelling; she heard a voice, though very distant.

"So…Shinji, what do you…about Asuka?" a familiar voice said.

"Is…Red Devil…problems?" When Asuka heard the words Red Devil, she quickly knew it was Toji and Kensuke. Those two morons were talking about her, but she quickly realized that they were asking Shinji. She laid down on her bed and kept listening to the call. She had theorized that Shinji had accidentally butt dialed her. Nevertheless, this was a chance she would never get again.

"Guys, I already told you to not call her that. She doesn't like being called that," Shinji said, very direct but with a bit of shyness, "and what do I think of her? Well…"

Shinji pondered on the question, leaving Asuka in suspense. She hugged her pillow and began to get nervous. What will this idiot say? Oh God, what if he says he likes my body. God knows if he has jerked off to it, that pervert. Or worse, what if he says he hates me? I will certainly beat him up. I have done nothing but give him my attention every day. I-

"I…like her"

Asuka's heart stopped, and she gripped the pillow even harder. She was stunned by his response. She returned back to the real world once she heard Kensuke and Toji react appropriately. Screaming like morons, as if Shinji had admitted to murdering someone.

"How can you like that woman? She is insufferable, annoying, and toxic." Kensuke said.

"Yeah Shin-man, don't you think you have a bit of Stockholm syndrome by living with her?" Toji added.

"Guys, I am serious, and stop saying mean stuff about her… I do like her. Even if she is hard to work with… she gets me." Shinji said, a bit angry, but finished with calmness as he went on about why he liked the red head.

"She is a person that, from what I know, has gone through a lot. Even if I don't know her life and problems, what I do know is that she needs someone by her side. I know she is mean, she has questioned me and told me several times that 'I am an idiot;' but what if I told you guys that's what I need. For someone to call me out for the dumb stuff I do. I don't know if it's love, but I certainly appreciate her company, probably more than she thinks."

Asuka couldn't believe what she heard. She was listening to Shinji, the kid who was an idiot and as dense as a rock, being so confident and direct with his emotions towards her. She felt her face heat up from the words, and her heartbeat went faster every second. She probably was never supposed to hear 'this version of Shinji'.

She grabbed her pillow and hugged it very hard, a tear falling from her eye as she looked at her phone screen. She looked at the photo she picked for Shinji's profile. It was a secret one she had taken when he put on her red plug suit. She smiled and sighed. I guess we will talk, baka Shinji.

Asuka heard a ruffle from the phone, as she began to hear murmurs from the other side.

"Yo, Shinji, who the hell is mommy Asuka?"

Asukas face turned so red, both of anger and embarrassment. "WHAT?"

She hung up and went to the bathroom, leaving her phone in her bedroom. The words of the contact could be seen: My Baka. As she looked around, she found herself in the mirror. She gave herself a look and smiled. "Huh, mommy Asuka. You really are an idiot, Shinji. He is going to have to come up with something better if he wants my company."
