A/N: Sam and Miguel are still going to break up, but it's not going to be the exact same as it was in Season 1. Anyway, this chapter is going to cover what happens immediately after the Quiver Kickback (because it wasn't in the last chapter) and there'll be a slight jump from there to the day before Christmas. Apologies for the delay in updating/uploading the chapter and the relatively short length of it compared to the previous chapter.
Disclaimer: I don't own Cobra Kai or anything from third parties that I might reference.
Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence
Jason woke up with a hangover and feeling like he'd swallowed sandpaper.
He walked into the bathroom and took a shower before brushing his teeth and getting dressed.
Jason walks downstairs and sees Demetri, who has started vacuuming food crumbs.
"Good morning. How's your hangover?" Demetri looks over at him.
Jason walks over to the fridge. "It could be worse."
He took a soda out of the fridge and drank it.
"That's why I don't drink. To avoid getting a hangover." Demetri says.
Jason rolls his eyes. "Whatever. So, are you going to join Cobra Kai again?"
"Absolutely not." Demetri replies.
Jason sighs. "Seriously? Sensei didn't kick your ass that badly! He just flipped you over."
"Which was humiliating enough." Demetri retorts.
Jason rolls his eyes. "You make it sound more embarrassing than it was."
"I'm still not going to be joining Cobra Kai again. Unless…." Demetri starts.
Jason raises an eyebrow. "Unless Sensei changes his methods or something happens that makes you reconsider?"
"Maybe I will reconsider. But not now." Demetri answers.
Jason shrugs. "Fair enough."
Demetri looks up and sees Miguel and Hawk walking down the stairs. Hawk's hair looked a lot flatter than it did yesterday.
Miguel and Hawk both have hangovers, but Miguel seemed to have less of one.
"Did you guys start cleaning up without us?" Miguel asks.
Jason nods. "Yep."
"Sorry. I'm still a little bit hungover, so…." Miguel starts.
Jason waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it."
"You sure?" Miguel asks.
Jason laughs. "Of course! It was your first party, so it's not like you were going to be 100% after it."
"You're probably right. It was a good party, though." Miguel replies.
Jason nods. "It was. Congrats on getting together with Sam by the way."
"Thanks. So, you and Aisha are a thing now. I wasn't sure when you guys would get together or even if you would." Miguel says.
Jason thinks about it. "You're welcome."
"And we're not the only people who have girlfriends." Miguel remarks.
Jason grins. "That's true. Congrats, Hawk!"
"Thanks?" Hawk looks slightly confused.
"As riveting as this conversation is, we're not going to get this place clean by lollygagging alone." Demetri interjects.
Miguel, Jason and Hawk all exchange glances.
Jason nods. "You're right. We wouldn't get anything done if we just stood around talking. Right?"
"Yeah. I guess we should get to it." Hawk agrees.
Miguel and Hawk each get trash bags and start helping Jason and Demetri clean up.
It takes about an hour for them to clean up.
Fortunately, they don't have to clean the upstairs part of the house because everybody at the Quiver Kickback was in the downstairs part of the house.
They carry the trash bags outside and leave them on the curb.
Jason drives Miguel, Hawk and Demetri home separately because he's not sure if four people can fit in his car or not.
….
The days between the day after the Quiver Kickback and Christmas Eve pass by relatively quickly.
Everybody in Cobra Kai, including Sensei, knew that Jason and Aisha were in a relationship.
Jason was planning to go on a date with Aisha sometime between Christmas and New Year's Eve. They were texting back and forth as well as calling each other before and after training, which was something relatively new to both of them. Even if Jason had been in relationships before.
He woke up and got out of bed.
Jason went to go and take a shower before getting dressed.
He dried himself after his shower and put on a Trivium t-shirt, boxer shorts, black jeans and a studded belt buckle along with black socks. He'd also put on a leather jacket even though he probably didn't really need it.
Jason walked downstairs after grabbing his wallet, phone and keys.
He went into the kitchen and started making breakfast.
Jason made chocolate chip pancakes and cooked sausages and bacon along with sunny side up eggs.
He put his food on two separate plates and carried them into the dining room before grabbing a knife and fork along with a bottle of maple syrup.
Jason sits down and starts eating.
He quickly works his way through the sunny side up eggs, bacon and sausages on one plate before pouring maple syrup over the pancakes on the other plate.
Jason cuts into one of the pancakes and puts a piece in his mouth before chewing it.
He finishes the rest of the pancakes and then brings both plates and cutlery into the kitchen, cleaning them before putting them in the dishwasher.
Jason grabs a beer from the fridge and sits down.
He remembers that he had bought a bottle of Laphroaig as a gift for Sensei, along with a few gifts that weren't alcohol. The gifts that weren't alcohol were kept in the living room while the bottle of Laphroaig was kept in the fridge.
Jason opens the bottle of beer and turns on the TV.
He flicks through the different channels before settling on something that was suitably Christmassy.
Jason took a long sip of beer as he sat back in the sofa.
He finishes his beer as he watches TV.
Jason is about to get up and grab another beer when he hears the doorbell ring a few times followed by loud knocking.
He turned off the TV and got up to open the door.
Sensei is standing on the other side of the door looking in.
"Nice house, Kreese. Merry Christmas, by the way." Sensei says.
Jason nods. "Thanks, Sensei. I wasn't sure whether or not I'd get you gifts or whatever, so I just went ahead and bought some stuff."
"I hope you didn't get me socks and underwear, Kreese." Sensei answers.
Jason shakes his head. "Nah, I got you some good stuff."
"Like what?" Sensei asks.
Jason ushers Sensei into the house and closes the door behind him. "High quality booze and some other stuff."
They walk into the living room.
Sensei sits down on the sofa and watches as Jason gets some of the gifts that he'd gotten for him and hands them to him.
"Thanks. Didn't you say you had one more gift?" Sensei wonders.
Jason smiled. "I did. I'll just go get it."
He walks into the kitchen and takes the bottle of Laphroaig out of the fridge.
Jason walks back into the living room and hands the bottle of Laphroaig to Sensei, who looks at it with awe.
"How much did that set you back, Kreese?" Sensei alternates between looking at the bottle of Laphroaig and Jason.
Jason scratched his head. "A couple hundred dollars. At least."
"Well, I hope it's as good as the price tag suggests." Sensei remarks.
Jason smiles. "It's high-quality stuff. But that's just what I was told."
"I'll just have to take your word for it, Kreese." Sensei retorts.
Jason shrugs. "Whatever."
"Don't get smart, Kreese." Sensei warns.
Jason nods. "Alright."
"Good. There's somewhere that I want you to see. Plus, it's not as if we were just going to be hanging around here all day. As nice as this house is." Sensei says.
Jason looks a little surprised. "So, where are we going? Besides your apartment, I mean? Seeing as I'm spending today with you and all."
"We're going somewhere that holds a lot of memories for me." Sensei answers.
Jason doesn't really know what to say to that, so he lapses into silence.
He watches as Sensei takes his gifts, including the bottle of Laphroaig, and walks out the door.
Sensei puts the gifts that Jason got him in the back of his car before getting in the driver's seat.
Jason locks up before walking outside and getting in Sensei's car.
He gets in on the passenger's side.
Sensei quite literally puts his foot on the gas as they drive off.
….
The Pontiac Firebird pulled up across from a cube-shaped building.
Sensei stops the car and gets out.
Jason looks out the window and sees a sign in front of the building that says "All Valley Sports Arena."
"Well? Are you getting out or not, Kreese?" Sensei asks.
Jason gets out of the car. "Okay. I'm just not sure why we've stopped here."
"This is the All Valley Sports Arena. It's the place where some of the best moments in my life happened, as well as some of the worst moments. But that's a long story." Sensei replies.
Jason's eyes widen. "Whoa. That's some heavy shit."
"I never knew my real father, but I did have a rich stepdad who was a real piece of shit. He bullied me emotionally and physically, made me feel like I was nothing. Like I was less than nothing." Sensei began.
Jason wasn't sure what to say.
He had no idea that Sensei was bullied as a child, and by his stepdad of all people.
Jason finally did manage to say something. "I'm really sorry, Sensei. I had no idea…"
"Don't worry about it, Kreese. Anyway, I first saw Cobra Kai and your grandfather when I was biking around the Valley when I was about twelve. My stepdad laughed at the idea of me doing karate, but I went and started taking karate lessons anyway. Joining Cobra Kai was like becoming part of a family. Kreese treated me more like a son than my stepdad ever did. He was tough on me, but he made me tough. I even met some of my best friends because I was in Cobra Kai." Sensei continues.
Jason couldn't help but think that Sensei meeting his best friends as a result of being in Cobra Kai was similar to how he became friends with Miguel and Hawk.
He decided to keep quiet and let Sensei keep on telling the story.
Sensei kept talking. "I lost in the semi-finals of my first All Valley back in '81 to a third- generation black belt called Vidal. I did manage to win the All Valley in '82 and '83, though. And I didn't lose a single point in '83, which was my junior year."
"So, what happened after that?" Jason asks.
There's a brief pause before Sensei continues. "LaRusso shows up and tries to make a move on my girl, yeah we had broken up by then but I still didn't appreciate it. We had a couple run-ins. Like when he sprayed water on me during Halloween. My friends and I chased him down and I was just about to hit him with a huge kick when this old guy shows up out of nowhere and rescues him. He beats up me and my friends and it turns out that he's LaRusso's Sensei or whatever."
"LaRusso's Sensei makes a deal with your grandfather to settle things at the 1984 All Valley. LaRusso got to the semi-finals before your grandfather told Bobby, one of my best friends, to injure LaRusso. Bobby gets disqualified and LaRusso gets to the finals. LaRusso's Sensei manages to somehow fix LaRusso up so LaRusso can fight. Everything is all tied up before Kreese forces me to go for his injured leg. LaRusso hit me with an illegal kick to get the win, though." Kreese continues telling the story.
Jason looks shocked. "So, my grandfather told Bobby to injure LaRusso and he told you to go for his injured leg? And then what?"
"I'm getting to that, Kreese. Your grandfather snaps my second-place trophy into pieces and then tried to kill me."
Jason wasn't expecting that at all. "Wait, what?! He tried to kill you?"
"He put me in a chokehold. I wasn't sure if he was actually going to through with it and I can safely say that I've never been more terrified of anything else in my life. If LaRusso's Sensei hadn't stepped in when he did, I probably would have died." Sensei finishes his story.
Jason wondered if Kreese would have tried to choke him out after the fight with Kyler and his crew on Halloween.
He lets out a deep breath. "You weren't kidding about it being a long story."
"Don't get smart with me, Kreese." Sensei has a wry smile on his face.
Jason nods. "Okay."
"You're a good kid. It might seem that I'm tough on you sometimes, but that's only because you've got real potential. And I'm not just saying that because you're a Kreese. I really do mean that." Sensei says.
Jason is taken aback by the compliment. "Thanks? I guess?"
"Don't mention it." Sensei replies.
They walk back to the car.
Jason gets in the passenger seat while Sensei gets in the driver's seat.
He can't help but replay Sensei's story in his head and wonders if he should tell him that Kreese is still alive.
But he quickly decides against it.
….
Sensei had the radio on full blast. He even has the windows down so people in other cars and on the street can listen to it.
They pull up outside an old school looking diner.
Sensei stops the car and gets out.
Jason gets out of the car and looks around.
Even though he had been to an old school sort of diner with Kreese months ago, he still couldn't believe that those places still existed.
"Are you going to stand around like one of those living statue weirdos or are you going to get a move on?" Sensei asks.
Jason nods. "I'll get a move on, Sensei."
"Good." Sensei walks into the diner.
Jason follows close behind him.
They walk in the diner and make their way over to an empty booth.
A waitress walks over with two menus after they sat down.
They both order burgers, fries and sodas.
The waitress who walked over with the menus brings them sodas with ice and places the glasses on the table.
"I guess a toast is in order." Sensei takes his glass and holds it in front of him.
Jason looks a little confused. "A toast for what?"
"For proving me wrong. I didn't think that you and Diaz would become the Cobras that you are today, but you did. And that's something worth celebrating." Sensei answers.
Jason grins. "Thanks. Merry Christmas, by the way."
They clink their glasses together and take a drink.
"Merry Christmas, Kreese." Sensei smiles.
They talk until their food arrives.
This particular conversation was much lighter than their conversation at the All Valley Sports Arena.
Which was very much a good thing.
….
The drive from the diner to Sensei's apartment was pretty uneventful.
Sensei parks the Pontiac Firebird outside his apartment and gets out.
Jason gets out of the Pontiac Firebird and takes the gifts he bought Johnny out of the car, including the bottle of Laphroaig.
Sensei opens the door of his apartment and walks into it.
Jason walks into the apartment as well, taking care to close the door behind him.
"Welcome to my humble abode." Sensei says.
Jason nods. "Cool."
"Thanks for the gifts, by the way. Speaking of gifts, there's something that I want to give you." Sensei replies.
Jason looks surprised. "Really?"
"Yeah. I'll just go and get it." Sensei answers.
Jason waits as Sensei walks into a different room in the apartment and comes back with a red leather jacket.
There's a brief moment where Sensei hands Jason the red leather jacket.
Jason looks at the jacket with an awestruck expression on his face. "Thanks, Sensei."
"You're welcome, Kreese." Sensei smiles.
Jason puts the red leather jacket on before taking it off again.
He grins. "And it's a great fit, too."
"You want a beer?" Sensei asks.
Jason nods. "A beer would be great."
Sensei walks over to the fridge and takes out a six pack, or something similar to a six pack, of Coors Banquets.
Jason watches as Sensei walks over and puts the six pack of Coors Banquets on a table before taking one.
"Have you ever seen Iron Eagle?" Sensei twists the cap of the Coors Banquet in his hand.
Jason looks slightly confused. "Iron what? Is that an actual movie?"
"How do you not know what Iron Eagle is, Kreese? And, yes, it is an actual movie. It's one of the greatest movies of all time." Sensei answers.
Jason is kind of sceptical. "If it's so great, how come I've never heard of it?"
"It's an underappreciated classic. That's why." Sensei replies.
Jason takes a long sip of his Coors Banquet. "Sure."
"You don't have to take my word for it, Kreese. Just watch the movie." Sensei says.
Jason nods. "I guess I will."
"That's the spirit, Kreese." Sensei gets up to turn on the widescreen TV that's mounted to the wall.
Jason watches as Sensei sets up the TV to start playing Iron Eagle.
If Jason had to guess, Sensei must have watched the movie a few times at the very least.
Sensei walks back to where he's sitting as Iron Eagle starts.
They each get comfortable and watch the movie in a comfortable silence that was punctuated by snippets of conversation at various intervals.
Today was definitely a good day. And it was the first good Christmas Eve that Jason had in a while.
