"Hello? Hikari? Yes, this is Asuka. Look, I'm not feeling well today, you know? Can you tell Kodama to cancel the date? Why? What an inconvenient question Hikari. I'm having problems that every woman has... Hey, hey... no need to shout. Yes, that's right. Of course. As you know, I'm practically an adult, so it's natural that I have these problems. Anyway, I'm sorry. We'll talk later, okay? See you later."
Before her friend could recover from her shock, Asuka hung up the phone after telling her second lie of the day as she started to take off her horrible green dress.
Although she had told Misato and Shinji that she was going out on a date, in truth the girl never had the slightest intention of complying with her friend's request. After all, why waste time on a date with a stupid boy? Even more when she knew that she was only interested in one man - she thought, as she looked at the door of the room that bore the sign 'Shin-chan Lovely's Suite'. And, of course, that man was Kaji! Who else could it be?
But knowing that Kaji and Misato were going to a party together that day, she decided that she would not spend the day at home alone. Maybe the best thing to do was to look for some activity at Nerv to get her mind away from her problems. Maybe a swim to relax? Yes, that would do it.
However, after spending several minutes looking for the striped red and white bikini she had bought and worn the day before the mission to Mount Asama, the girl began to get impatient. Where could it be? She was sure that she had packed it when they returned from their trip, so this could only mean one thing.
"That pervert!"
Asuka stormed down inside Shinji's room, in angry, trying to look for her bikini under the boy's bed and inside of the boy's drawer. She would find it and hit that idiot so hard that…
Yet as she was looking for it, her fingers brushed on something hard. Frowning, she let his fingers move along this object, which had no place among this drawer. She realized it was a book, or at least a notebook of some kind, with a plastic blue cover on which the words 'Tokyo Diary' had been written. Shinji's handwriting, Asuka knew at once.
"Heh, so the idiot has a cute little diary? That's just pathetic. I wonder what kind of perverted and sick thoughts he wrote down here. Unbelievable. This guy is really hopeless and disgusting."
She stared at the book for some moments and, in a sudden movement pulled the notebook out, suddenly losing any interest in finding her bikini and to enjoy a day at the pool.
Back in her room, Asuka sat on the floor, legs crossed in front of her, her new treasure draped in her lap. Taking a deep breath, she dipped her head and flipped the cover open.
The first page was crammed full of handwriting so she realized that she would need a dictionary to aid her. It was also a great way of cover herself. She could always pretend that she was doing that only to improve her kanji and not because she was interested in her dull roommate personal life.
As she got herself prepared, with both the dictionary and the diary in hand, she started to read the diary.
And, just like her roommate personality, the diary was plain and dumb. Each day had just a paragraph or two, depicting the events in a boring way. Some stuff about his father. Then, Misato. The stooges. Wondergirl. Bo-oring!
She was about to give up reading it until he saw a page that had many more words written, almost the full page. And the title of the page started with her name: Asuka Langley Sohryu.
That page described the events of the day that they meet each other in the Over the Rainbow. It contained a detailed description of the events of that day, but no single note about her behavior or his impressions about her. It was frustrating! Until she noticed that, at the end of the page, one small phrase was written: "Well, I don't know if I should do that, but I guess that from now on I will use this diary to write about her."
Several emotions flashed in the girl's head. Embarrassment, proud, contentment and also anger. Lots of anger. So, the boy really wrote perverted things about her in this diary? How dared he….
A part of her knew that what she was about to do was wrong. Really wrong. But a stronger part of her convinced the girl to go on and resume reading it.
Several hours has passed by as the girl was laying on her bed, with the diary on top of her. After reading all the content of the blue booklet, she almost had passed down with embarrassment and was a little scared about a very weird feeling grew inside her.
She took the booklet again in her hands and read that passage again from the start.
"I know I'm an idiot and maybe a masochist. I know that she doesn't like me at all. Heck, she even made clear that there is a whole epic wall – some kind of Bible stuff - that will block every single attempt of getting closer to her. But since she started to live with us, I already know how I feel about it. I don't know if I should be happy or sad. I'm not stupid. I can tell when someone has an effect on me, and … well, I guess she does things to me. Things I can't explain. And it's a surprisingly good feeling. So, from now on, I'm going to list in this diary my deepest desires. Every little thing that I dream to do with Asuka, even if I know that it's pointless and that she would call me a pervert and a wimp, or maybe worse, if she somehow knew about those thoughts…"
She dropped the diary again, on the other side of her bed. She still couldn't believe in what she had read.
"That's what Shinji truly think about me? And he wants me…. us… to do those kind of things?"
Her thoughts were interrupted by a nice melody that started to come from the living room. Somebody had just arrived in the apartment. And it was probably… him. The girl panicked. What she was gonna do?
As Shinji stopped playing the cello, he heard the sound of someone clapping. It was Asuka, wearing small blue shorts and an over-sized yellow shirt.
"Not bad at all. I didn't know you could do stuff like that."
"I can only play this well because I started when I was five...I don't have much talent."
"Don't they say, persistence is a virtue? I think that you should try to be bolder. Good things can happen if you are willing to make the leap of faith, you know. Maybe to cross a whole epic wall, you know, some kind of Bible stuff, that is blocking every single attempt of getting closer."
What the hell she was doing? She'd just read this passage in his diary, and choose to use the same words that he used in an actual dialogue. Thankfully, the boy was a doormat and probably won't even make the association that…
"You read my diary, didn't you?" Shinji dropped his cello and got up, looking at the girl's eyes. There was no anger in his tone. If anything, he had a hint of embarrassment.
She had fucked up. The truth was obvious even to Stupid-Shinji.
Asuka decided it was better to own up to what she'd done. "Hey, I didn't mean to. I was just trying to find some stuff of mine and … I sort of … read it a bit."
"A bit?" Shinji raised a thin eyebrow.
"All of it."
"If you read it then you know…." - he said quietly.
"What you want, yes." - she completed the phrase for him.
Silence again, thick and heavy in the living room
Shinji was at the verge of crying, his face covered in shame and embarrassment. He made the motion of run towards his room, but Asuka quickly took a firm grasp on his arm.
"Hey…I'm…. I'm sorry… for reading your diary."
The boy couldn't help but chuckle, in an ironic way, obviously feeling hurt.
"It's a little late for that, don't you agree?"
The girl, however, looked at him with a stoic face.
"You're not joking, right? I mean, about what you've written there."
Shinji didn't respond, but softly made a confirmation sign with his head. He was not joking. And she knew that she could believe in him.
"Ok…. so, let's do it."
"W-what?" – the boy turned around to face her, in obviously disbelief.
"I said, let's do it. I… I mean… if that's what you want, I guess I… can… no, I want do that too."
They both blushed and looked away from each other, until Shinji broke the silence.
"You mean… you want to do…"
"All of it."
They looked at each other, trembling in anticipation, as Asuka grabbed the boy by the arm, guiding him towards her room and closing the door.
Later that night, Kaji struggled to open the apartment door and place a passed out Misato Katsuragi in her bed. True, the man tried to ask Shinji and Asuka for help, but the children had not answered the doorbell or his calls.
So, he decided to check on the children. Strangely, Shinji wasn't in his bedroom. It only could mean that... No. He had to check that out. They are still kids, for God's sake!
Kaji was a man that already saw to many weird and nasty things on his life, including am embryonary form of Adam, the primordial Angel of the Ancestral Race. But even all of his life experience wasn't able to prevent him of being shocked by what he saw as he quietly opened the door of Asuka's bedroom.
Asuka and Shinji were sharing the same bed.
With their clothes on.
Cuddling.
And Shinji was the little spoon.

Well, that is it.
This was just a funny idea for a fic that is an homage to the famous lemon series "Asuka's Diary of Perversion" written by the great Rommel (available on the Archive of Our Own website). Also inspired by the brilliant minds of the Asushin SubReddit and Discord that like to subvert some tropes and expectations in amazing ways.
I won't turn this into a series to develop it further, but can you imagine what were the other lewd desires that Shinji had written in his diary?
I will give some insights of what is written there (it's canon): 1) Hold hands with Asuka. In public. 2) Make her give him a sloppy wet kiss… on his cheek 3) Make her allow him to wash and braid her hair 4) Ask her to clean up his ears 5) Go to the movies together and share the same popcorn bag, gently brushing their fingers together when they would try to get some popcorn.
That's all, folks. Gonna get back for writing the next chapters of the ongoing series. Expect lot's of angst in both of them next time :)
Thank you for reading.
