1. Air...No, Groundborne
Wilhelm Sardelle had been doing a good job with his bombing and surveillance missions lately. Ever since the Battle of Moscow, the Nazis were pushing the Soviets into Siberia. Here, it was Wilhelm's job to pick off any stragglers. His on-plane radio was able to pick up most signals, so he kept communication with his unit.
"This is Kolibiri 23 Luftwaffe...spotting no hostiles, over." He reported on his radio. He was 10,000 feet in the air as of now, but the clear sky allowed him to see to the ground with ease. He only saw (besides dirt, rock, and forest) were a few Soviet tanks, destroyed.
"Affirmative 23, keep surveillance over the east mini-range, 1 klick from your location." Base commanded back to him. He checked his side's, looking out the windows, looking for air traffic. But alas, none came. At least he wasn't going mad. The hum of the planes engines rattling and buzzing with the rush of the wind kept him concentrated, and relaxed.
"Roger that." He answered. looking diligently forward. The brown, green, and greys of the Ural Mountains were absolutely stunning. Back in Hanover, he only saw the concrete and wood of the buildings, and . But out here -- he was free. He felt good, in all sense of the word.
His blind mental praise of the Ural's natural beauty came to an abrupt hault, as an odd spaceship flew passed him, barely missing his own aircraft. It disappeared beyond his vision fast, and he maneuvered the plane to turn in it's direction.
"Kolibri 23 Luftwaffe, I think I got an enemy craft, engaging." He reported to Base, readying his fingers on the triggers of his plane machine guns.
"Affirmative, 23. Do as needed." Base cut off, and he pursued the aircraft. He wasn't fair behind, and when he got a good look at it, felt a bit scared, but curious. It was shaped like an odd oval, with two rectangles at each end. It was two massive wings to twirl in the air easily, with massive engines to make it go up to mach 40 speeds. He picked up that it didn't look like it was damaged at all, but was heading for the ground. He spotted massive cannon's of some sort beating his machine guns by a long spot, so he didn't dare fire apon them. Finally, two massive landing peices stretched out from it's bottom, and landed the aircraft perfectly, crushing a couple dozen trees in it's place.
"What in God's name...?" He wondered, as he circled around it. He decided to do, in hindsight, a stupid decision. He had a morbid curiosity to see if his guns could do anything do that beast of an aircraft, and so, aimed his guns to the ship. He fired 4 rounds, two from the left, two from the right. They barely even dented the surface. But it did activate it's defense system. He saw 3 bright beams of light lean together to form one -- aiming right at his aircraft. He was too mesmerized and perplexed to even think about dodging. He noticed a bright blue ball of...something launch out of a top-mounted cannon, and the projectile followed the laser line. His plane was far too slow to dodge it.
The ball of energy hit the back of his plane, making it spin uncontrollably and head for the ground at alarming speed.
"BASE, BASE! KOLIBRI 23, JUST GOT HIT WITH AN ARTILLERY PEICE!" Wilhelm screamed into the radio, as he tumbled toward a group of trees.
"BRACE FOR IMPACT!" He thought to himself, as he tucked his head in between his legs and put his hands to his exposed neck, protecting it. The plane spiraled down, as the radio garbled out nothing but static. As the back of his plane burned, the left wing hit a tree, and spun even faster, the right wing then hitting a tree. The cockpit crashed down to the ground, and hit the ground. It didn't explode, but digged into it, creating a path of bare ground. Because he protected himself, he was still conscious, and set up. The fast woodlands and mountains of the Ural Mountains surrounded him. Wilhelm grit his teeth, and balled his fists, burrowing his brows, ready to scream.
To Be Continued
Hey everyone! It's...been...a while. And I apologise for that. But (fortunatley) I prioritise my life over fanfiction writing, but I won't leave you guys hanging without something to tide you over! I'm sorry for the short chapter length in advance, but it's what was needed to start the story.
(I hope you guys noticed the new way I write)
