CH 5. Compelling Secret

Slowly waking up for the best nap she has gotten in a while, Caroline arose stretching her limps. Seeing the state of her room and the dried up blood on her neck, she realised the all the bizarre things that happened were not just a bad dream. She did in fact meet a vampire who was planning to make her his compelled plaything. Hugging her knees, she thought about everything that had occurred.

Touching her left ankle where she had a tattoo she exclaimed,

"I can't believe it actually worked. I wasn't so sure that it would, but it actually worked".

Caroline had just turned 15 when her dad gifted her a summer vacation to London. It was an apology for skipping her 15th birthday party. At that time she thought that it was going to be just her dad and herself and they were going to finally get to spend some quality time together but that was wishful thinking. Not that she didn't like her dad's boyfriend Steven, he was cool but it was a lot awkward with her constantly being the third will. It was a surprise that Steven daughter didn't tag along. Steven had said that she had some type of camp that she had signed up for and couldn't back out at the last minute. It honestly would have been a whole lot better if she had come. At least Caroline would've gotten some company (She got along well with his daughter as they both could relate to their similar situation with their dads).

After the whole vampire incident in the alley, Caroline was determined to snoop in her dad's hotel room when he and Steven were out on a dinner date to get some answers. She had then found out that she wasn't meant to be here with them in the first place, she was just brought along with them because her dad had once again forgotten her birthday and was she last-minute addition to their couples vacation because he didn't really have a gift for her and had no other option. That stung but she was used to it. It wasn't the first time her dad messed up and she would have to let it go like she always did. She wasn't her parents first priority and she was okay with that (not really but that's what she likes telling herself).

While she was going through his stuff, she found a really old looking journal, some weird looking hunting gadgets (which she later found out were vampire-killing tools) and clear sealed bags filled with some sort of powder. Her first thought was that her father had been taking drugs but she was pretty sure that there wasn't any sort of purple colour drug out there.

So she decided to keep one of those packs with her for further inspection.

As soon as she saw words like vampires, sun, burning, mind control, stack, while flipping through the journal in her hand she decided that she needs this book to get a better idea about who the hell or what the hell she had encountered in the alley yesterday. But she couldn't just steal it, seeing that it was in that awful-looking bag her dad carried everywhere. It had a lock and if something was to go missing she would be the first one in the line of suspicion as was the only one who knew the password (she was the one who helped him set it up in the first place password).

Putting everything in their respective places, she rushed downstairs (before making sure she locked the door properly of course. She didn't want an actual robbery to take place) to the ground floor where she knew was the library. She had noticed a printer in there the other day while she was exploring the resort.

Yes, she going was to make a copy of the journal for herself. Was this idea really stupid and extremely risky? Yes, yes it was. But that was a risk she was willing to take. She didn't like being kept in the dark and had to know what was going on or she would just go crazy.

As she entered the library, she quickly ran over to the printer getting a curious look from the librarian. She immediately got to printing out each and every page while constantly checking the time. It took about 30 minutes to get the whole book copied. She quickly gathered all the prints making sure that they were in proper order when she noticed that the librarian was giving her a stink eye for hoarding the printer for so long. Not really caring she quickly rushed back to the hotel room. When she noticed that her dad and Steven has still not returned she let out a sigh of relief. Immediately she put back the journal in its rightful place and ran back to her room.

After she returned from their trip Caroline did the same thing with her mom's journal where she knew her mom wrote all about her job. That's how she found out about vampires and the council that both her parents were a part of.

Getting out of memory lane, Caroline once again looked at the small bird's tattoo around her ankle and sighed proudly at the incredible idea she had gotten at that time.

Caroline had to find a way to protect herself. With her parents and the council thinking that they are some kind of superheroes who had to protect the town from the danger called vampire, she was in a constant line of risk. What if a vampire kills her because her parents failed to kill them, as revenge? What if they compel her to forget her whole life and move to Alaska or something? She just couldn't take the chance. Though her parents and the council were ignoring dangers from their line of work doesn't mean she would as well.

Caroline had to do something about the vervain problem. She couldn't keep on stealing her mother's stash as her mom would have gotten suspicious eventually. And she hated having to drink it every day as it tasted worst than the kale juice she used to drink.

One day while she was worried about what she should do, out of nowhere she came up with the most unusual idea. What if she got a tattoo artist to somehow mix vervain in their tattoo pigments, that way she would have vervain with her all the time literally stuck to her skin. There was a chance that it could work but there was a chance of it failing miserably. Going back and forth with the notion, she finally decided to just go for it. But there was one problem, the legal age to get a tattoo in Virginia was 18. One could get a tattoo below this age but only when their legal guardian is present with them. That was not an option. First of all, her mom would never agree and secondly, she would never be able to get to the vervain mixing part.

Confused about how she was going to do it, Caroline all of a sudden remember that the goth girl in their school had a lot of tattoos. When she befriended her the very next day everyone was stunned cause Caroline would never be seen (more like want to be seen) with that kind of crowd.

After talking to her for a few days she discovered that Kate was the sweetest girl irrespective of how she looked and that Caroline was a little too judgemental (maybe more than a little).

Through Kate, she was able to find that sketchy looking tattoo place and finally got the tattoo. She wanted it to be hidden from the public eye, so she decided to get it on her left ankle. Which made sense because she mainly owned boots and shoes that would cover her ankles slightly. The tattoo she had chosen was a cute birds design which kinda had gotten a purple tint for the vervain.

When she thinks about that day, she still gets second-hand embarrassment. She had asked the tattoo artist if he could mix the (vervain) powder in his tattoo pigment. When question why and what was that powder, Caroline not knowing what to say blunted out that it was her dead grandmother's ashes and she wants it to be tattooed on her so that she can always feel like her grandmother was with her (don't judge her she was desperate).

The tattoo artist didn't believe her one bit. When she offered to double the pay, he immediately agreed saying that he had had the worst. But all that was worth it. As she could now never be compelled by any vampire ever. She hadn't laugh at Damon because she was making fun of him but from happiness, because it had worked and she still could not believe it.

After all that Caroline, decided that she was going to learn how to fight. It probably wouldn't work against a vampire as they have super strength but at least would learn how to defend herself. So shortly after the tattoo incident, she started to search for self-defence classes in the neighbouring towns. That's when she first met Alexis.

Alexis Diya Copper, Alex for short is the owner and manager of the new all-women gym in McKinley, the town where her dream college Whitmore was located. She is also the trainer of the self-defence class Caroline had signed up for. That's where she also met Samantha Addison and Jessica Kim who were taking the same class. All four of them instantly hit it off and now are Caroline's closest friends other than Bonnie.

Through them, she met Noah, Liam and Jacob as well. Noah Duncan is the owner of the throne garden which was like the mystic grill but better. He has also been Alex's boyfriend for 9 years now. He is a year older than her making him 26 and her 25. Liam and Jacob Jones are brothers who are the complete opposite of each other. Liam is two years older than Jacob. He is in college working as a part-time bartender in the throne garden. He's charming and a total flirt. And gives the best advice. Where else JJ was a total dork who gives a sarcastic reply every time.

Caroline, Jess, Sam and JJ are the same age and get along so well that one would say that they have known each other their whole life. Alex and Noah are like the parents of the group always trying to always protect them. Jess looks like an angel but she is anything but that. She has the craziest ideas in the group and absolutely no chill. Sam was nothing like Jess. She was always calm and relaxed. But if she ever got angry consider it hell on earth.

They are a bunch of weirdos but they are her weirdos and she wouldn't give them up for the world.

A/N: So that the end of chapter 5. This was the longest chapter I had written till now. I hope you all enjoy the long update.

Now you all know what Caroline did after returning from the life-changing trip and how she managed the situation.

Do you think I portrayed her well in this situation?

I feel like Caroline would plan agreed of time since she was a control freak who hated losing control. She is an over-thinker and that's why she would all have the need to be prepared for anything which of course worked quite well for her

And finally, you guys got to meet my OC characters. What do you think?

I felt the need that Caroline needed better friends. I adored the friendships in the TVD universe. But let's be honest season one friendships were not that great yet.

I don't think Caroline had any real friends except Bonnie in season one. Her friendship with Elena was superficial and not strong because of all the insecurities and jealousy issues at that time. Even her friendship with Bonnie was not that great as it was obvious that if Bonnie was asked to choose between them she would definitely choose Elena.

So that why I wanted her to have friends who would always choose her and help her grow as a person. And that's where my OC's come in.

In all of the drama that was mystic fall, they are a breath of fresh air for Caroline.

And I have decided to completely rewrite Caroline's storyline through everything else that is supposed to happen in mystic fall will remain the same. So look forward to that.

How did you like the tattoo idea??? Did you see that coming???

Also, I have posted the face claim for all my OC, so go check that out.

Please vote and review and tell me your opinions.

Until next time
