CH 6. Ugly cockroach with wings

Scanning the clock in her room Caroline realised that she had spent slightly too much time in flashback. She needed to get up and get going. But first, she needed to clean up the mess in her room (It was filled with shattered glass pieces) And then take a long relaxing shower and finally bandage up the horrible looking wound on her neck. She will have to find a way to cover it up. She has an enormous amount of scarves in her closet but she wasn't going to wear one when it was 38 degrees outside. She had cheer practise and no way she was going to wear one as it would keep getting in the way of her cheer routine and she didn't want to deal with that today. So she was just going to tell that she had an accident in the kitchen to anyone who asked (That would definitely get Stefan suspicious but who cares).

Quickly Caroline grabbed her phone from the side table where it was charging the whole time, to check if she had any messages. It was a wonder that her phone didn't even move an inch from its place after the morning brawl that took place. She had some messages and few voice notes from Jess and JJ. Going through the voice messages it was clear to her that her friends were very drunk last night. Good for them at least somebody was having fun unlike her. But to be honest the first part of her night was fun (so fun) before Damon had to bite her and ruin it.

Caroline was stunned to see that she even had a message from her mom but then was disappointed because it was just her mother informing her that she couldn't attend the game on Friday because she had to work.

Caroline was so excited for her mom to come and see her do the back extended roll that she practice so hard to perfect. They were even going to get dinner after (cause they haven't had dinner or even lunch together for like a year now) but looks like that was cancelled as well. Another day, another disappointment from her parents.

Caroline immediately replied to Alexis and Liam's good morning text (even though it was afternoon by now) and to Bonnie's Where are you??? text. She noted that she had a miss call from Sam and decided to call her after taking a shower.

Rapidly going through the rest of her messages and to-do list, she placed her phone back on the table and got to cleaning her room.

Getting out of the steaming shower, Caroline hastily draped the towel around her while directly moving to her cupboard.Deciding on a matching pair of crop top and shorts with a pineapple print on them along with a mint sweatshirt to wear over it, she shut her closet.

After changing into her outfit, she moved to the side table picking up her phone dialling Samantha's number. As the call was ringing she put it on the loudspeaker and placed it beside her on the bed as she sat down to put on her shoes.

After the fifth ring, Sam picked up.

"Hey, Care Bear", she heard Sam say.

"Hey, sorry I missed our morning call", Caroline replied while tying her shoelaces. Every day she would talk to Sam and Jess before leaving for school. It was their morning ritual.

"No problem Care, I take it you skipped school today?", Sam asked already knowing the answer to her question.

"Yup, I had the best nap ever", Caroline replied happily as she picked up her phone and moved towards the mirror for final touch-ups.

She had rarely slept in since being in high school. She had a demanding routine every morning which she made sure to follow strictly. It usually starts with her waking up at 5:30 and going for a 20-minute run. Then she would go over all her school work and later have a nice relaxing shower for about 10 minutes. Then she would spend the next couple of minutes talking to Sam and Jess and texting Alex, Noah and Liam. After eating some breakfast that she prepared and packaging herself some lunch (depending on her mood), she would leave her house by 7:10 am while checking her to-do list. After arriving at school, she would get all her committee and extra credit work done in the library. Finally, she would give Jacob his wake up call and talk to him till Bonnie arrives. The only days she would rest would be during the weekends when she would crash at Jess and Sam's apartment which was originally (still is) in Alexis's name. All three of them were roommates before she moved in with Noah. Now only Jess and Sam lived there but the lease of the apartment was still in Alexis's name.

Both Sam and Jess were orphans. Jess parents died in an accident 6 years ago and Sam's in a house fire when she was 5. Thankfully Sam was at her grandma house when it took place but the same couldn't be said about her parents and the rest of her family. Now she only had her grandmother Emma who lived close by.

"Wow, Miss Caroline Forbes skipped school. Who would have thought that I will finally get to witness this day? I almost lost hope", Sam joked.

"Ha, ha, very funny", mocked Caroline. "By the way, I received some very interesting voice notes from Timon and Pumbaa", She disclosed implying towards Jess and Jacob, as she put on her cherry lip balm with one hand while her other hand was holding her phone. After hearing the sound of Sam's chuckle she continued, "Something about expensive Vodka, pink hair and a broken guitar".

"Let's just say that Liam will never get to taste that high-priced Vodka he had saved for special occasions And that Jess had a midnight makeover and her 100 $ guitar didn't survive to see another day", Sam said with amusement apparent in her tone.

"No way", Caroline exclaimed while brushing her hair, not believing that she missed all of that. "All that in one night?".

"Yup, JJ stole the bottle of Vodka from Liam's stash and then he and Jess got so drunk that they decided to have a Lady Gaga karaoke night at 1:00 am", Sam revealed thinking about not their awful singing.

"Then her guitar string broke and Jess chose destroyed the whole guitar in frustration. The neighbours were complaining and I had to call Alex and Noah for damage control. Mrs Nancy almost called the cops on us but thanks to Noah she didn't", Sam still doesn't know how he does it. Mrs Nancy even wished her in the morning with a SMILE. Whatever he did, it was working wonderfully. "I still don't know how he convinced her but I am so grateful that he did".

"While I was calling Liam. JJ helped Jess dye her hair pink.And not any pink HOT pink which I didn't even know we had in the first place. Finally, after Liam took JJ home, by that I mean he dragged him out of the door, Me and Alex got Jess to bed", Sam concluded.

"Oh my God", Caroline cried out trying very hard not to laugh at Sam's eventful night. "I can't believe that I missed all that", she let out finally laughing out loud because she couldn't control it any longer.

Sensing a presence behind, Caroline swiftly turned around and screamed when she noticed DAMON standing just inches away from her.

Damon successful in catching her off guard got hit right in the face by the hairbrush she was holding.

"Ouch", he said in a mocking tone not really seeing that coming.

Hearing all the commotion, Sam questioned worriedly, "Hey Care? What happened?? Is everything okay? What was that???".

"YES", Caroline let out bring her finger to her lips when she noticed Damon was about interrupt, indicating he should shut the hell up while she does damage control.

"Did she just shush me", Damon thought a little offended but neither the less decided to stay silent.

Not knowing what to tell Samantha, Caroline blurted out, "It was...um an um COCKROACH. Yes, an ugly looking cockroach".

"A cockroach? From when did you start getting scared by a cockroach?" Sam asked confused.

"It's super ugly and even has wing okay. It totally caught me off guard", Caroline replied slowly glancing back at Damon looking at his annoyed expression. He obviously didn't like the fact that she has called him a cockroach. It kinda made her want to laugh at his offended look.

"Okay...", Sam mumbled still not entirely believing her. Before she could say anything a high pitched scream interrupted her.

"Man, that was loud. That girl can scream", Damon whispered once again, getting shushed by Caroline.

"Looks like Jess woke up and saw herself in the mirror", Sam chucked. "We're still on for the weekend, right?", she questioned.

"Yup, wouldn't miss it for the world", Caroline answered smiling to herself.

"Okay then, Bye.

Talk to you later", Sam said.

"Bye", responded Caroline hanging up.

Setting her phone on the dresser she turned to Damon and yelled, "What the hell!!! Were you trying to give me a heart attack".
