Ch 8. Psychotic Genie

"I need you to get me into the council", Damon ordered

"Okay, done", she agreed with a nod.

Before she could say anything Damon interrupted, "I am not done yet. I also need you to get me into your friend circle".

"My friend circle?", Caroline repeated not understanding what he meant. "Which one and why would you even want that?

"You don't need to know that", Damon replied sternly. "And what do you mean by which one?".

"Well, I do have two separate friend groups. One more cooler than the other", she thought.

Not wanting him to know that she hastily diverted the topic as realisation struck her, "Oh wait, I know why".

"Do you, now?", Damon question wanting to see what she comes up with.

"Yup", she cheerfully replied knowing that she was going to be precise."You want to get into my circle for one major reason".

"And what's that?", he asked curiously.

"To bother Stefan obviously", Caroline replied smugly knowing she hit right on the nail with the surprise crossing his features.

"How did you...?", Damon questioned. He wasn't that obvious, was he? Caroline undoubtedly got one of the motives right. Yes, he did want to bother Stefan but he also was incredibly curious about Elena. Like, why the hell does she look so identical to Katherine. If it wasn't for the completely opposite personality (and the hair) and the fact that she was human, he wouldn't believe it.

"It's kinda obvious", Caroline said. "Stefan didn't even mention siblings when asked. Which implies that you both have a shaky relationship right now", she revealed like it was the most apparent thing in the world.

"So while you proceed with your mission, you can annoy him in the process, it's like hitting two birds with one stone", said Caroline sipping her coffee.

"I'm impressed, Blondie", Damon announced. "You're way smarter than you look".

"Thanks, I know", she replied. One thing Caroline was proud of was her ability to notice the smallest details. Taking psychology instead of history definitely helped with that. And as an additional bonus, she got to see less of Mr Tanner (God he was so annoying).

"Okay, so what else?", she asked recalling his requests (more like orders).

"Well, you just need to do whatever I say, whenever I ask you too", ordered Damon. "And of course, you can't utter a single word about this to anyone else because you wouldn't like the consequences", he concluded as the threat in his voice got replaced with a cocky tone.

"If your requests are within reason, then maybe", Caroline disclosed not even hesitating in the slightest by the frightening look he sent her way.

"This is not up for discussion Blondie", warned Damon with his no-nonsense tone loud and clear

'How dare he try to order me around!. I am Caroline Freaking Forbes and I ain't no doormat', Caroline thought aggravated by his barbaric demands. She wasn't going to carve easily, never has and she wasn't planning to.

"I am not your toy Damon, to dance at your every command", Caroline answered back with a similar no-nonsense tone equivalent to Damon's. "I will my best try to assist as much as I can but don't you dare think that I will follow your every order".

To say that Damon was astounded was an understatement. One of the main reasons he chose her was because she seemed the easiest to push around (And the fact she is very hot was just a cherry on top). Apparently, his intuition was way off. The girl had a fire in her. This development had only made things more interesting.

"You do not pay me, so don't you dare think that you are the boss of me", she said angrily pulling Damon out of his thoughts.

"Wait, that doesn't sound half as bad. You might as well pay for all the stupid shit I know you are about to put me through", Caroline announced her mood doing a complete 180. This thought made her realize that this deal was kinda one-sided. She would have to do all this work for nothing in return. That did not sit well with her at all.

At the thought, an idea popped in her head and she spoke up, "I will try my best to do your bidding no questions asked, in exchange you owe me a favour".

"What do I look like to you, a Genie who grants wishes or in your case, favours", Damon asked irritated.

"Yup, a psychotic version of my one of my favourite Disney character, who likes to grant death wishes", Caroline said sarcastically.

"What kind of favour?", Damon asked ignoring her jab.

After thinking about it for a few minutes, Caroline said, "It can be anything, you will have to grant me a single favour whenever I ask".

"But you have to fulfil it at all cost. No backing down", she revealed firmly. "Do we have an agreement?", she asked nervously. It was a dangerous game that she was playing, making deals with the devil. It could go horribly wrong. But there was no backing down now.

That didn't sound half as bad to Damon. What could she, a 17-year-old high schooler even ask of him, surely nothing he can't accomplish. So he smirked at her and uttered in agreement, "Okay, you have a deal".

"Great", exclaimed Caroline happily. Quickly changing to a business-like tone, she announced, "Now let's get the first task of getting you in the council out of the way, shall we".

Saying that Caroline turned towards the table and opened her journal while Damon stared at her, curious about what she was going to do next. She quickly began flipping the pages when she abruptly stopped. Repositioning the bookmark, she once again faced Damon while plopping the journal on her lap.

"Okay, how much do you already know about the council?", she questioned glancing back from the book to Damon.

"Not much, only a few facts here and there", answered Damon not wanting to reveal much. He wanted to see if she was creditable or if he was just wasting his time.

"Well as you know the councilthink they are some kind of superheroes who think that they have to protect mystic falls from the danger that is vampires", said Caroline with a bitter tone.

"You don't agree with them?", asked Damon surprised by her hostility.

"No, I think it's stupid", confessed Caroline. "Like sure, everything is going pretty promising for them right now but what happens when it doesn't. They tend to forget that they are human going to fight against beings who might as well be considered immortals", she added with distaste. "It's idiotic and is putting not only them but also the whole town at risk".

Damon agreed. The town council was undoubtedly filled with a bunch of brainless idiots if they think they can overpower vampires especially a vampire as old as him.

"And also most of them are pretty useless as all the vampire hunting job falls on my mom and her deputies shoulders, sometimes even my dad when he is in town", disclosed Caroline mockingly with a hint of anger. That's one of the main reasons her mom doesn't have time for her because she is playing Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

"Speaking of my mother, to get you into the council we will first need to convince my mom", she revealed remembering what they were talking about in the first place. "And by convinced I mean impress. And trust me that won't be easy".

"Okay, and how would we accomplish that?", inquired Damon interested in what was brewing in her head.

"It won't be easy, since the council is a very tight nit group. You're lucky that you are already a part of the founding families or else it who have made this task a whole lot harder", said Caroline with a sigh of relief.

"Enough of all this chit chat Blondie and tell me how to do it", Damon let out with annoyed at her for dragging this out.

Noting that his patience is running on a thin thread, Caroline spoke up, "Call your uncle Zach and say that you are going to deliver the next batch of vervain to my mom today."

This seems to get Damon attention and he began listening to her carefully.

"Normally this transmit takes place on the weekend but since my mom ran out of her vervain supply she will ask for it earlier", said Caroline after rereading her mom's vervain delivery schedule jotted down on the opened page of her journal. And yes, she did have every single detail of mom's records regarding the council written down.

This journal harbours a lot of this town's secrets, that's why the first few pages were filled with gibberish so that if anyone was to find it, they would just think that it was some random book and nothing noteworthy. But it also came with a lock so she was well off.

"And how do you know that she ran out of it", asked Damon sceptically. He could see her eyes shifting from the book in her lap back to him.

"Because I stole the rest of her stash duh", Caroline replied like it was the most obvious thing.

Damon was not expecting that answer. It made him slightly snicker.

Not noticing his amusement, she continued, "So ask your uncle Zach to swap places with you". Suddenly, realising something Caroline asked, "Wait since you're a vampire then Zach cannot be your uncle so how are you even related".

"He's my great, great, great, great... nephew, you get the gist", Damon answered back with a smirk.

'That means that I hooked up with someone who is 10 times my age. Good going Caroline", she thought a tiny bit revolted with the fact. "Well at least he is hot", she shrugged.

"Like I was saying, meet my mom to deliver her the vervain. If you have her on your side, persuading the rest of the council should be easy", Caroline disclosed with unwavering confidence.

"And how do I do that?", he inquired.

"Cook up some sob story, I am sure you can do that", she replied shrugging her shoulders. "But make it as believable as you can and match your story with Stefan's so that no one gets suspicious".

"Okay, I can do that", Damon agreed with a nod. "Seems pretty easy".

"Will you look at that, it's already time for cheer practice", Caroline said glancing at the clock, eating the last bite of her sandwich and finishing the rest of her coffee.

That made Damon realise that she was eating the whole time and he didn't even notice. Seeing her glancing at the disregarded plate by his side, a thought occurred in his mind and his lips stretched to a teasing smirk.

"Are you going to eat that", Caroline asked pointing to the sandwich she had handed him. What she was still hungry OK. She has a big appetite so don't judge.

"Yup", Damon let out cheerfully. Taking a huge bite of the sandwich he looked back at her earnings a scoff from her when she realised what he was doing.

Standing up and settling her journal back to its original place, she moved to wash her hands.

"This is good, what did you put in it?", he asked not expecting the taste and kinda surprised by the fact that she didn't spike it vervain.

"Thanks, I just some leftovers from yesterday dinner", Caroline replied swiftly drying her hands, still somewhat annoyed.

She hastily moved back to her room and picked up her bag along with her headphones and settling it around her neck while hanging the bag on her shoulders. Soon after making some final touch-ups in the mirror, she collected the empty plates she moved out of the room heading downstairs.

Damon's smirk had widened at her visible annoyance. That had just made her more irritated while he sat there confused with where she was rushing to, still munching on the delicious sandwich.

Realising that Damon was not following her, Caroline stopped gliding down the stairs and turned around calling out, "Are you coming? You need to drop me at cheer practice. I am already pretty late".

Hearing what she had said, Damon quickly stood up and followed her out of the room, stuffing the last piece of the sandwich in his mouth while quickly dusting his hands.
