CH 12. Game night

Caroline let out a huge yawn as she parades around in her cheer uniform through the hallways of her school making the last adjustments before the game. Damon wouldn't leave her alone last night and only left in the morning. He kinda annoyed the sleep out her when he wasn't ready to leave till the sun peeked though, which now seemed to hit her right in the face as she kept on yawning. Irritating pig not letting her get her beauty sleep.

Elena had just quit the cheer squad and she wasn't going to lie, she kind of expected it. Elena has been detached from everything lately and she doesn't blame her given the situation. And wait did she mention that Elena was now wearing a vervain necklace. How did she knows that you ask? Vervain has a distinctive smell and her suspicion was confirmed when she noticed where more like what it was coming from. Stefan must have given it to protect Elena from mind control and future dangers. Which in their case was Damon.

Puff, what an amateur. Like that's going to help in the long run. At least make Elena consume it instead of wearing it, that would be so much safer. Does he think Damon or any other vampire for that matter won't just snatch it out of her neck? Maybe he needs to take some pointers for Caroline. She used to spike Elena and Bonnie's coffee whenever there were vampire threats in town. She did the same thing with Jessica and Samantha's apartment. Though she does theirs every weekend as she doesn't know when they have vampire threats like she does Mystic Falls. That's where all the vervain stolen from her mom would go.

But looks like Caroline wasn't going to be able to do that with Elena now, as she literally has a vampire boyfriend. She couldn't let Stefan find out as it could be lead back to her and make him find out about the fact that she was very aware of bloodsuckers in her town. And that he was one of them.

Anyways, now she was going over the routine one more time making last-minute correction if needed. There was a huge chance that they would lose the game yet again as they haven't won a single match since Mr Tanner became couch and she low-key thinks that maybe that's his fault but what would she know, she knew nothing about American football. But Mr Tanner does seem to be a whole lot confident this time around, good for him.

Even though they might not have a better team, they certainly have a better cheer squad and she definitely likes to take credit for the fact that they did.

After everything seemed perfect she along with the entire squad following behind her, everyone except for Bonnie (who was already there) moved towards the field where Mr Tanner was going to give his speech which he would give before each and every game.

To say that Caroline was bored would be an understatement as she stood there letting out fake cheers and wiggling her pom-poms around at Mr Tanner ridiculous words. Sure the beginning of the speech did get her hyped like the others but it slowly turned into such a one-sided oration. The man was literally discouraging and disrespecting the whole team except Stefan, and who he portrayed as the saviour of Mystic high. Stefan didn't seem to notice as he was staring at Elena the whole time. But the sour look on Tyler as well as some of the other members of the team faces indicated that this wasn't going to end well.

Regardless, Caroline wasn't going to stay back to watch the drama unfold. She had decided to get the hell out of here after the cheerleading ended not even bothering to stay back to watch the game. Since her mom had cancelled on her, she had no other reason to hang around. She was going to take a long bath and watch a movie till she fell asleep and that was her plan.

After that awful speech ended, they finally welcome the other team and both the cheer teams did their respective performances (her set routine was ten times better btw). Now Caroline was having a nice chat with Bonnie while simultaneously packing up her stuff ready to leave, only stopping when she noticed something.

"Hey, Tikki it's all wobbly can you stand straight, please", Caroline yelled out moving forward leaving Bonnie behind when she saw Tikki, one of the members of her squad responsible for holding their teams banner totally slacking off causing the Go Timberwolves solan to lurch. "Can someone please help Tikki?...Anyone?...No?".

When she was finally able to straighten the slogan and concomitantly informing them that there won't be any cheer practice tomorrow as she had to help plan the founder's party which was scheduled in 2 days. When she turned back around moving towards Bonnie, she noticed that Bonnie and Elena were having what looked like a serious conversation by the stressed look on Elena complexion.

"What was that about?", asked Caroline as she reached up to Bonnie watching Elena leave.

The sound of Caroline's voice startled Bonnie as she didn't expect it, causing her to slightly flinch. Quickly regaining her posture she turned around facing Caroline as she answered calmly, "Nothing just Elena being Elena". Though Caroline looked like didn't believe her one bit.

Noting the bag on Caroline's shoulder she questioned in disbelief, "You're leaving?! Already? The match hasn't even started yet".

"Yeah, I decided to call it a day.

I won't even understand any part of the game, so why waste my time staying back", Caroline replied gaining a subtle nod from Bonnie as she as well had close to zero knowledge about football or any other sports for that matter.

"The cheering part of the evening is over and my job is done. So I am just going to order takeout and chill at home", Caroline concluded moving her bag from one shoulder to another.

"But did you not have dinner plans with your mom?" Bonnie question once again, not knowing that she had hit a nerve.

"No, she cancelled yet again", Caroline said with distaste as she tried to mask the disappointment and the sadness she was feeling at the reminder of her mother's absence.

Though it didn't work at all as Bonnie noticed it immediately. Slowly stroking Caroline's left arm in sympathy she consoled, "I'm sorry Caroline, I know how much you were looking forward to it all week".

"Don't worry about it. I am so used to it by now. At least I get to go home early and finally get some me-time", Caroline retorted with a smile, try to sound as cheerful as possible. She was in no mood to talk about her feelings with anyone even Bonnie. She just wanted to go home and forget about everything happening around her.

Before Bonnie could say anything Aimee Bradley interrupted their conversation running towards them from across the field calling out for Caroline the whole time resulting in huddling everyone's attention on them, which annoyed Caroline to no end.

When Aimee finally got to them, Bonnie looked at Caroline in question as if asking, what is going on? And she just shrugged in response as she was just as clueless as Bonnie. She and Aimee we're not that close, actually not close at all. The girl along with her friend Sarah seems to hate Caroline and her friends. And she didn't even know why. Okay, maybe she did know a little but that not the point. Presently the question that why was Aimee, a girl she has barely talked to the whole school year was chanting Caroline's name with so much cheerfulness like she was God or something.

"What up Aimee?", Caroline asked curiously offering her water bottle to Aimee who was still panting as she was pretty much out of breath.

Taking a huge sip, Aimee answered happily, "Your boyfriend is here".

"Her boyfriend?".

"My boyfriend?" Both Caroline and Bonnie said at the same time looking at each other with total confusion.

"Tall, dark, handsome, totally has a bad boy vibe to him and very yummy looking. You know the guy who dropped you off in his cool car this morning ", Aimee explained dreamily making Caroline and Bonnie look at her like she had grown a second head.

Yummy looking??? Who even says that. Though Caroline got where Aimee was coming from but she was never going to admit that out loud for the sake of her sanity.

Noting Bonnie's look of question Caroline remember that topic at hand and answered Aimee firmly, who was still in her dreamland, "He's NOT my boyfriend". That was directed more towards Bonnie than Aimee. Though she hopes that this stops the rumour mill that was going around about her and her new older boyfriend. People are not as subtle as they think.

"Anyway, I absolutely have no time for this so I am going to leave. Bye Bon. Text me if there is any drama worth knowing", Caroline said hugging Bonnie, walking off quickly before Bonnie could bombard her with questions.

That made Aimee snap out of whatever daydream she was still having cause she immediately rushed after Caroline yelling behind her, "You can't leave!".

"Yes, I can. I am doing it right now", Caroline countered as she continued walking not wanting to deal with Aimee Freaking Bradley any longer.

"No, you can't. He is waiting for you in the parking lot", Aimee countered.

"Then he can keep waiting cause I don't care", retorted Caroline speeding up towards her car which was parked in the backside of the school so there was no way she would cross paths with Damon.

"No, you don't get it, you have to go see him. You have to. Please you have to", Aimee pleaded, making Caroline stop in her tracks.

"Why? Why is it so important that I see him, Aimee?", Caroline asked although she pretty much knew why.

"I..I...I don't know?", Aimee answered confused at her own behaviour.

That's when it clicked, that asshole Damon had compelled Aimee. How dare he? Caroline so badly wanted to punch him in the face but she knew she couldn't take the risk of angering a murderous vampire none the less it didn't make her want to hit him any less.

"Okay, I will go meet him", Caroline assured her simultaneously patting her shoulder. Turning Aimed around while taking a few steps back Caroline said, "Move along now, bye".

Caroline waited till Aimee furthered the distance, who was still very much confused with what just happened as she moved towards her usual group of friends, before turning around as she began to walk towards the parking lot wondering what the hell did that jackass what now.

When Caroline finally reached the parking lot the first thing she witnessed was Elena slapping Damon. Omg, someone is going to die today cause Damon doesn't look like he takes rejection well. But she wasn't going to lie about the fact that it was very satisfying to watch him get hit when that was all she wanted to do since yesterday. Damon must have done something pretty bad for Sweet little Elena to slap him and she high key wanted to know what it was. What can she say, she had a streak for drama and what she had just viewed was tea worth spilling.

When she watched Elena say something to Damon before storming off. Caroline stood there not sure if she should approach him as he looked pretty pissed off.

"Are you going to say something or just stand there and waste my time?", Damon voiced out. He had noticed her presence as soon as she had gotten there and that she had seen half of that fiasco that took place with Elena but on the bright side at least she didn't get to see him trying to kiss Elena. If you think about it, he had gotten rejected twice since he arrived in Mystic Falls, the first time being yesterday with Caroline and the second time being you know what. That wasn't doing any good for his massive ego.

Damon comment was enough to give Caroline the boost she needed as she moved to stand in front of him and let out, "Why did you call for me?". She had originally planned to give him the piece of her mind about compelling her classmates but she doesn't think that it was the time for that, at least not when he was giving out such murderous vibes.

"I need you to do something for me", Damon said getting right to the point. "I met the Sheriff today".

"How did it go? Did the plan work?", She asked recalling the plan they had discussed the previous night.

"Yeah, it worked like a charm. Making Zach sing my praises and back up my story in front of the sheriff undoubtedly made her trust me more", he answered with a crooked smirk.

"Great", said Caroline. She knew that her plan was to work as she definitely knew her mom in and out.

"So what do you need me to do?", she asked.

"I learned about an interesting fact from the sheriff today, the council members are planning to cancel the founder's party", Damon said. He couldn't let that happen cause that would just delay his plan. So he went to the first person he knew could help him, Caroline.

"What?! Why?", yelled out Caroline. She can't let that happen others wise all her month's efforts of dealing with Mrs Lockwood would go to waste.

"Something about there being too many deaths going around", he answered.

"Yeah and who's fault is that", Caroline muttered although Damon chooses to ignore her jab.

"I want you to get the founders party back on by hook or by crock", He ordered. This was the reason he had compelled that chick to get Blondie her.

"Ok, I will see into it", she answered swiftly

"Just like that? Ain't you going to question why?", Damon asked surprised by her instant agreement.

"Nope, it would be a waste of time since I know you won't answer", Caroline replied with a like it was obvious.

"Oh, and before I forget, Stefan gave Elena vervain", she knows she shouldn't be telling him this but she felt like it was better if he knew.

"That information would have been much more valuable if I known it before I made a fool out of myself", he mumbled.

"Did you say something?", she asked not sure if he did or if she was just imagining it.

"No blondie now move along", Damon replied as he watched Caroline nod slight before leaving the parking lot.

Caroline was longing on her bed in her comfortable pyjamas with a bowl of popcorn in her lap as she watched Orphan on her laptop. Recently she had been super into horror movies. Jess was the main reason for that since she was loved horror movies and would gather all of them to watch them together. They didn't scare Caroline all the much now since she knows the real horrors that exist in the world but that didn't mean that they didn't scare her at all.

As she was completely engrossed in the movie, she didn't notice Damon leaning over her. Getting a wicked idea, he leaned down and whispered in her ears making his upcoming words as low and seductive as he could manage, "What you doing?".

"What the fuck?!", Caroline yelled scared out of her mind as the bowl of butter popcorn landed on Damon, spilling the contains all over him.

"When will you stop sneaking into my room, are you trying to give a heart attack?", she shouted clenching her chest trying her very best to calm down.

"You got to stop hitting me with stuff each time I come into your room, Blondie", Damon said ignoring her previous comment removing the pink bowl that had landed on the top of his head and dusting off all the popcorn from his hair, leather jacket and jeans.

"Then how about you learn to knock first", Caroline sassed.

"Now where's the fun in that", Damon amused. Not going to lie, he was kinda enjoying this weird batter they had going on. He liked that she spoke her mind and didn't even shutter once while doing it.

"So we're you able to get the founders party back on", he asked remembering why he was here in the first place.

"Yup, it's back on", she answered. "Though it's been postponed for a week since the council has to deal with all the slaughter that happening, because of, we all know who".

"How did you do it so quickly?", He asked stunned that she could get it done so fast. A part of him thought that she was going to fail and he would have to do everything by himself.

"I have my ways, Damon", Caroline answered as she moved to her closet and got the cleaning supplies out to clean up the mess they had made with the popcorn. While she cleaned simultaneously pushing Damon around as she swept the popcorn and threw it in the dust bin, she thought about how she had manipulated Mayor Lockwood into agreeing with her when she went over to get his signature on the permission slip for the car wash after talking to Damon. She had subtly put the idea in his head that if he cancelled the founder's party he would have to answer the townspeople and actually admit that there was a problem to began with and finally take some responsibility. Which worked in her favour since he didn't want to do any of that.

Laying back on her bed after she was done clearing out her room and her hands, she voiced out the question that has been on her mind since Damon go here, "Is that blood?".

"Ah, that would be the delicious Mr Tanner", Damon said with a smirk as he swapped his finger over his lips as he licked the remaining blood off his thumb.

"Oh, okay", she said as she placed the laptop back on her lap before realising what he meant, "Wait what?!",

"You killed Mr Tanner?!", Caroline yelled exasperated by his nonchalant attitude.

"Yup", he confirmed his smirk widening.

"You don't seem all that sad Blondie. I take that he wasn't a favourite", he asked.

"No, it's very sad and he didn't deserve it, no one does", she answered softly. "I know that it's very shallow of me but I can't help but think that we all can finally a better teacher now that he is gone".

"Nonetheless, I do wish he didn't have to die for that to happen", she concluded. It would have been better if he was just fired instead of being killed. No one deserves that not even Mr Tanner. She can't let Damon keep murdering the people she knew and grew up with. She had to do something.

"Hey, can you like tone done the killing. Mystic falls already has a small population and it will be reduced to half by the time you are done with it", Caroline requested hoping he would agree. "At least stop till you get into the council".

"I will think about it", Damon answered. Quickly diverting the topic he asked as he watched Caroline resume the movie she was watching, "So, What you watching?",

"A movie".

"I can see that. What movie?", he questioned.

"Orphan", Caroline answered with her eyes glued to the laptop screen.

"Orphan? What's that?".

"It's a horror movie that came out recently. It's pretty good so far", Caroline answered looking at his still curious expression she elaborated, "It's about a couple, who recently lost their baby, adopts a nine-year-old girl who is not nearly as innocent as she appears".

"Sounds interesting. Scoot over", he said laying down next to her, getting comfortable like he owned the freaking place.

"Hey, don't you have anything better to do than to annoy me?", she asked aggravated when he tried to snatch the chips packet that she had just opened

"Nope, now move", Damon replied with his signature smirk.

"At least remove your shoes".

"Where were you, Damon?", Stefan voice out slight startling Damon as he didn't expect Stefan to be when he walked into the parlour.

"That's none of your business Stefan", he answered moving towards the liquor cabinet and taking a huge sip out of the already opened scotch bottle.

He had fun with Caroline and the movie was pretty good as the little girl (turns out she was not little) slightly creeped him out as well. And Caroline silly comments throughout the movie was a cherry on top. After the movie was done, Caroline kicked him out saying that she needs her beauty sleep and he has bothered her enough for the day.

"When will all this killing stop?", Stefan raised a question after a few minutes of silence when he noticed the new bloodstains on Damon's John Varvatost-shirt that wasn't there before thinking that he killed someone again. But Damon hadn't. He did munch on a couple he found making out in the alley on his way back here but he didn't kill them. However annoying and a buzz kill it was Damon agreed with Caroline, he needed to lay off the homicide for a bit at least till he got Katherine out of the tomb. And then they could paint the town red together.

"Whenever I feel like it. Now buzz off and go bothered innocent little Elena", he retorted nonchalantly mockingly waving his hand hoping Stefan would take the hint and buzz off

"Stay away from her Damon", Stefan warned sternly.

"Okay, mom", mocked Damon as he moved past him.

"Wait!", Stefan yelled out stopping Damon in his tracks.

"Now what Stefan?", Damon asked annoyed

"Why do you smell like butter?", he asked confused

"Shut up".
