CH 14. Katherine

"Is that Damon Salvatore?" Elena directed her question to her date as she looked at the original Founder's Day registry. "And Stefan Salvatore?"

"The original Salvatore brothers." Damon cut in walking towards the pair with Caroline by his side before Stefan could voice a cover-up. "Our ancestors."

Stefan and Elena turned around to see Damon and Caroline approaching them with his cocky smirk and her sweet (but definitely fake) smile directed at them. Hand in hand.

"Tragic story, actually", he continued while Caroline turned her head to peek at him as they stood in front of the couple hands clenched together. He sure was a great deceiver. If she hadn't known the truth, she would have also be fooled by him. A pretty damn good fibster as one might put it.

'He's good at lying, that's for sure', She thought as she turned to look at the textbook couple in front of her.

'Wait original Salvatore's that means human Stefan and Damon', Caroline explained in her mind, her attention quickly diverting from Stefan and Elena to the flamed registry behind them grossing over it and trying to mesmerise as much as she can.

"We don't need to bore them with stories of the past," Stefan said, what was for the first time as he stepped towards Elena in a protective stance.

Caroline wanted to roll her eyes at the action. However it might seem otherwise, Damon was not that dumb. He wasn't going to do something stupid like harm Elena, not in public at least (or that's what she hopes for)

"Those would be some long-ass stories," Caroline mumbled to herself more than to the group,

But, her inside joke seemed to have caught the attention of her brunette friend, who stared at her strangely before swivelling her interest back to Stefan. Let's just hope she didn't think much of it.

Now that Caroline thinks about it, 140 - 150 years, that's how long the Salvatore brothers have been vampires for. That would actually make Damon around the age 168 or 169 meaning he might have turned at the age 24 or 25. Since he was alive in 1864 according to the first official founders day registry framed on the wall in front of her as only the people above the age of 16 were allowed to sign the first founder's registry from what she had learned in history class (and yes she was good at math even though it might not seem like it but not many knew that about her). This was a piece of key information. Now she can finally find more about them and maybe even the real reason these two vampire brothers are in her town.

"It's not boring, Stefan," Elena said gazing at Stefan with her Bambi like eyes, her voice unknowingly snapping Caroline out of her thoughts. "I'd love to hear more about your family."

'I wonder if he likes Elena so much is because she gives off such Bambi vibes since he likes to snack on Bambi and Thumper for lunch', she thought, chuckling on her own joked, once again causing Elena to look at her weirdly while Stefan glanced from Elena to Damon, who had one of those fake smiles plastered on his face.

"Well, I'm bored," Caroline exclaimed. Ignoring the look Elena threw her way at her sudden rudeness.

Thinking about the conversation she had with Damon before they got to Elena and Stefan, she recalls the stupid conversation. He wanted her to dance with Stefan, to distract him while he pestered Elena (He didn't say that, she just knew). If this was what he wanted she'd give it to him. 'Let it bite him in the ass later, she thought.

But if the dude steps on her brand new shoes then they're both are going to have it. She doesn't care if they are blood-suckers, creepy with superpowers, these shoes had cost her a months allowance.

"I wanna dance...and Damon, won't dance with me", she continued making sure to sound a tad bit disappointed

"Mm-hm", Damon butt in.

"Can I just...borrow your date?", Caroline asked boldly, directing her question towards Elena who looked stunned by her hardiness.

'Great, now she going to think that I am interested in snatching her boyfriend', she reckoned. The only reason she was interested in Stefan in the first place was because he was fresh meat. But after that "Caroline, you and I are never going to happen" and all that I am obsessed with Elena vibes he gives off, throw that minor attraction right off the window. And not to forget the fact that he was one of those blood-sucking freaks who likes eating bunny's, making matters worse.

'Why do I do these things? Oh, right! To please fake my vampire boyfriend that no one asked for. I just can't wait for all this to be done and finally get rid of his annoying ass', Caroline thought as Elena speculated over a suitable answer for the totally bizarre question that Caroline put forth.

"Oh! Uh-", uttered Elena still not able to form an answer. But before she could proceed Stefan interrupted her.

"I don't really dance," Stefan replied.

"Oh, sure he does. You should see him. Waltz, the jitterbug, the moonwalk, he does it all", Damon said with a smirk. His answer made Caroline want to laugh. Was it bad that she actually wanted to see Stefan moonwalk?

"You wouldn't mind, would you Elena?" Caroline asked, though she pretty much knew the answer.

"It's up to Stefan." Elena sighed after a moment of thought. Her halfhearted reply kinda made Caroline guilty about what she was about to do but she couldn't stop now. What can she say, a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do.

"Well, sorry," Caroline began, releasing Damon's hand in exchange for Stefan's, "But I'm not going to take no for an answer."

Stefan gave a halfhearted smile, allowing the blond to pull him away. Eyes glaring into Damon's with such understanding. 'He knows exactly what just happened. Damon and he are somewhat alike in the same wavelength. Like they say no one knows you better than family.'

Damon and Elena watched as the two exits the room, moving towards the beautifully lit garden outside where other couples were dancing, Caroline looping her arm through Stefan's.

It was hard for Damon to admit, but he kind of missed her warmth beside him. Shrugging the thought off, he turned his full attention to the Katherine look-a-like. One of his reason for torturing Stefan for all his vampire existence.

Surprisingly enough Stefan was an excellent dancer. She doesn't even know why she doubted him in the first place. Of course, he is a good dancer he was born in that era.

One hand was on the small of her back, while the other was holding hers gently in his.

'Is he like afraid he's going to crush my hand...oh, wait! he can crush my hand...he must be about as strong as Damon... Ok maybe not as strong as Damon since he is on that Edward Cullen diet'

"I hope Damon isn't driving you too crazy", He voiced with such sincerity, as he if truly cared how his brother treated her. How sweet.

"Yeah, he's a perfect gentleman", She lied, (Damon is anything but a gentleman) not fully paying attention. She was worried. Not about what Damon would do to her if she were to mess up his plan, but of him being alone with Elena. As much as the distance between them and the dissipating one-sided resented she harboured about Elena being the number one pick for everything, she didn't want to see her friend get hurt. She knows that Damon won't hurt Elena but she was still worried.

"Damon told you to dance with me, didn't he?", Stefan asked knowingly. Though he had hit the mark, she wasn't going to let him know that. They weren't dancing as intimately as a couple would, there was a distance between them, and that she appreciated. It made this whole ordeal a lot less awkward. But she seriously hated Damon for putting her through this situation in the first place. He was relishing in there probably trying to seduce Elena while she had to dance with his brooding brother.

Putting on her best confused and perplexed expression she spoke up, "And why would he do that?"

Just before any of them could say another word, one of the waiters interrupted, "Champagne, sir?"

"Would you like one?", Stefan asked pulled away from the dance, directing the question at Caroline.

"Um..No...", she denied, nevertheless it seemed like Stefan didn't care cause he ignored her refusal acting like as if he hadn't heard her (when they both knew that he did) wordlessly picked up two champagne flutes before saying a thank you to the waiter who bowed in response.

Not seeing any other option she spoke with her fake cheerful voice taking the glass that was directed towards her, "Sure why not? Just tell me if you see my mom". She wasn't in a mood for champagne but looks like she would have to deal with it.

As she was about to take a sip, she noticed Damon and Elena approaching them. Caroline must admit, Damon in a suit ticks a whole lot of boxes in her mind. He looked like he literally appeared straight out of a Vogue magazine.

Shaking her head, she moved away from Stefan who seemed to be watching her every move, turning to greet Damon with a kiss on the right cheek as he and Elena neared them. All this fake dating was sure taking a toll on her. The evening had just started and she was already done.

"What did we miss?", Damon asked, grabbing ahold of Caroline's hand and pulling her towards him. He caught a whiff of her perfume and was surprised it didn't make him want to gag. The girls he usually went with tended to put on too much of everything, but he never really complained, because in his mind none of them would ever measure up to his late and great Katherine. Even as beautiful and charming as Caroline was she wouldn't either. But, he could admit he liked her company on occasions.

"We were...just chatting", Caroline smiled, looking over her shoulder at the young Salvatore, before turning her attention back to her date. As she took a sip of the champagne her face twisted in distaste which caught Damon attention. Vervain! Stefan spiked her drink with vervain. That's why it was so important that she agreed. The audacity. Why did he have to ruin perfectly good champagne?

When Damon raised an eyebrow as if asking, what's wrong? Caroline just shook her head in response indicating that she would tell him later.

While they were busy have their silent conversation, Stefan stared at them unknowingly ignoring his date who was looking at him in confusion. This perplexed him to no end. They looked too comfortable for her to just be his plaything. Looks like things aren't as simple as they appeared to be.

"Drink Damon?", he questioned cutting off their ongoing silent conversation, before making sure to flash a smile at Elena who smiled in return.

"No thanks, I'll pass", Damon refused, recognizing exactly what he was doing, while Caroline continued to sip on the spiked champagne with a knowing look as well.

Seeing how the conversation promptly turned awkward as no one seemed to want to start a conversation, Elena began with a sweet smile, "Stefan, do you have another dance left in you?"

"Absolutely", he replied, drowning the rest of his drink before, placing the empty glass on the table near them as he let her loop her hands around his arm, moving towards the dance floor.

As they watched Stefan and Elena dance, the atmosphere around them seemed to have changed. Damon appeared to be in some kind of deja vu as he looked at the couple with wanting eyes. Though he didn't seem to notice, he was still clenching her hand not willing to let go as much as she tried to shake him off. Caroline decided that it wasn't wise to interrupt him, so she continued to sip on a glass of cola which she had grabbed from the waiter passing by to get rid of the vervain aftertaste.

Damon watched on as Elena and Stefan danced whispering sweet nothings to each other. The scene brings back memories that he didn't want to recollect. It's not that he liked Elena or anything. She was just a copy of his dear Katherine and a bad one at that. A means to an end. She was just so boring in comparison, he doesn't even understand how Stefan actually likes her. Wait now that he thinks about it, they were perfect for each other. They both could brood and be boring together.

Just then Caroline's phone rang, blasting Ke$ha -Tik Tok on full volume. Quickly downing her drink and placing it on the table next to them. She let go of Damon's hand and opened her pearl handbag to take out her phone, diverting Damon attention from the lovey-dovey couple to the blond as he missed her warmth as soon as she let go.

"Hey Care", is the first thing Caroline hears as she picks up the call, causing her to smile in recognition.

"Hey Noah, how's it going?", she replied cheerfully. Even though they kinda have a slight age difference and completely different personalities, she adored Noah nonetheless. He was like the brother she never had.

Damon continues to watch her as she spoke with a smile conversing so happily with some guy. That kind of irritated him and he didn't know why. And another odd thing was the fact that the voice on the other end sounded strangely familiar, but he can't seem to think back to where he had heard it.

"All good here. How are you doing", Noah asked genuinely.

"I'm alright", she replied.

Hearing the music and chatter coming from the background made Noah realise that he might have caught her at the wrong time, so he let out apologetically, "I'm sorry if I bothered you".

"Oh you know that not a problem, you can call me anytime", she dismissed which annoyed Damon even more. This person appeared to be pretty close to her.

Caroline would keep hanging up on him saying that she had no time for his attics and that she was busy and here she is telling whoever this person was to call her anytime. Talk about being impertinent.

"So what up?", he heard Caroline ask as he was still tuning in.

"I wanted to ask you if I should enter you guys in the set-list for this weekend?", Noah asked confusing Damon. What did he mean by set-list?

"Of course without a doubt", answered Caroline right off the bat. She, Jess, Sam and JJ liked to sing at the annual karaoke night that was held every Saturday in thorn garden, Noah restaurant. She would sing, with Jess on the guitar, JJ on the keyboard and Sam on the drums. They were pretty good if she says so herself. They even had a name for their band, Crimson Carnation.

"Great can't wait", Noah replied happily. He loved watching them and they also brought in a lot of good publicity. It was a win-win situation.

"So I won't take any more of your time. See you soon".

"You know it", she responded.

As soon as she hung up Damon asked, "Who was that?"

"No one you need to know about", she conceded, not wanting to give out any more information than needed. Damon just rolled his eyes in response.

"What are you doing?", Caroline yelled as she moved up the stairs rushing after Damon before making sure no one noticed her. She had begun to follow him when she noticed him suspiciously moving up the stairs. Wanting to know what he was up to she bid adieu to Bonnie who seemed all over the place for some unknown reason. Even if she wanted to know what was bothering her friend so much, finding out what Damon was up to was more important.

"I've been looking for you", he lied reaching out to hold her by the arm pulling her towards one of the rooms.

"We can't be here Damon. This area is off-limits", she resorted as he continues to yank her to god knows where. She would get in a lot of trouble if they were to get caught and she can't afford that, not when Carol Lockwood was one of the judges in the Miss Mystic Falls panel. Caught snooping around her house won't give her extra points. Annoyed with his constant pulling she shrieked, "And will you stop manhandling me".

"Don't worry, we'll be out of here in no time", he conceded ignoring her other comment as he pulls her into what looked like Mayor Lockwood's study.

"Okay, Just a minute. Stand right... there", he said concocting her at the entrance as he moved towards the main desk.

"What am I, a guard dog?", she muttered disgruntled. When she didn't get an acknowledgement, she turned around to discover Damon picking up some kind of vintage wooden box moving it to the round table."Uh, you're not supposed to touch"

She watched as Damon once again disregarded her, opening the box and pull out a yellow crystal from a secret compartment. 'So that's the reason he wanted to come here so bad'

"What's that?", she uttered curiously.

"Very important crystal", he replied nonchalantly causing Caroline to scoff at his indifferent response.

"Well, how did you know it was in there?", she pressed on wanting to know more.

"Because I put it there", Damon revealed as he closed the box before taking a good look at the crystal.

"When", she gasped.

"A long time ago", he answered while picking up the wooden box and placing it back in its rightful place. Turning to look at Caroline, he shoved the crystal in the left pocket of his blazer before announcing, "Tonight, I am taking it back thanks to you".

"Happy to help", she muttered sarcastically. When receiving only an eye roll as a response, she questioned, "Well, what's it for?"

"Never you mind", he resorted annoyed with the constant queries, pulling her out of the door with him.

"You can't just steal it", she countered struggling in his arms.

"It's not stealing if it's mine. Come on" Damon persisted, successfully pulling Caroline out with him.

Done with this constant push and pull game, she shouted in anger, "Can you stop being an asshole and quit pushing me around. I can walk perfectly fine on my own".

"Hey", Caroline said with a small smile as she re-pinned her hairstyle noticing Elena presence.

"Hey", Elena responded with a forced smile, placing her clutch on the counter before opening it and taking out the lipstick.

Unable to bear the awkward silence any longer, Caroline questioned trying to make conversation, "So how are things with Stefan"

"Great. Just great", Elena responded though Caroline could see right the lie.

"Really?", she countered.

"Well then my radar must be off because I was getting all sorts of other vibes"

"What is that?", Elena asked noticing that faded bite marks which were now on full display as the concealer seemed to have receded.

"Don't", Caroline cried out trying to get away from Elena's watchful gaze as she moved closer to touch.

"Caroline, what happened?", she questioned.

"Nothing, okay", replied Caroline hoping Elena would just let it go. But when as things been so easy with Elena and her constant need to know everything. "This is not nothing, Did somebody hurt you?".

"No okay, I am telling you it's...Nothing. Just a small accident", she replied wishing Elena would buy it.

"Did Damon hurt you?", Elena asked as she pulled down her ruffled mesh sleeve revealing a purple graze on her left forearm. Okay, that wasn't really Damon fault. Or maybe it was in a way. She had gotten that gash when Damon had once again sneaked into her room at night startling her to fall out of bed causing her to bruise. And this 2 days ago hence it was still pretty much visible.

"No. Of course not", she replied honestly. Aside from the occasional death threats, Damon would not lay a finger on her. But Elena didn't believe her as she continued to look for non-existent prove of abuse.

"Just leave me alone okay Elena? God", Caroline yelled, grabbing all her things and moving out of the touch-up room. She hated that she had to shout at her like this but Elena doesn't know when to stop.

"What was all that about", Damon interrogated as Caroline jerked him to the lit-up backyard so they could have some privacy. She had witnessed the whole Stay away from Caroline or I will go straight to her mom, the sheriff and yanked Damon away from the crowd before gossips would begin to spread making matters worst. She knows that Elena meant good but she unknowingly might have put Caroline in a not good of a situation. She just hopes that Damon doesn't try to kill her or something since she unconsciously might have ruined whatever messed up plan he had.

"Care to explain why sweet little Elena went all warrior Princess on me", he asked sounding a little more pissed than before.

"There nothing to explain. It's pretty obvious. She noticed the faded bite marks as just assumed the worst. It's crazy how her mind immediately went to you. I don't you are making a good impression Damon", she said trying to joke at the end of her rant aiming to lighten the mood. Let's just hope he understands where she was coming from.

After staring at her for a few minutes, Damon replied seemingly unconcerned with the outcome, "Now all the progress I had made went straight to the drains, huh? Eh, at least I don't have to pretend to be the nice guy anymore".

Caroline let out a sigh of relief at his answer. He took this way better than she had expected. She had thought that he would go all psycho mode on her but thank God he didn't.

All of a sudden she looped her arms around Damon's neck causing him to hold her by her waistline, a shocked look passing his face. To anyone who was watching it looked like they were hugging each other which made him even more confused as to why she would do it in the first place.

Leaning in, Caroline whispered, "Stefan here".

The feeling of her breath on his right ear and the sound of her melodious voice brought a million inappropriate though to his head.

"What?", Damon let out not paying attention to what she had just said as his thoughts were elsewhere.

"I said Stefan's here", Caroline repeated, confused with his unusual behaviour.

At her response, Damon extended his senses finally noting Stefan presence, stunned that he hadn't noticed before. But what astonished him even more, was the fact that Caroline a mere human had noticed before him.

"How did you...?"

Before he could complete his obvious sentence Caroline interrupted him, "Not important"

Honestly, she didn't know herself. All she knew is that when Stefan entered the backyard seemingly staying hidden, she immediately felt his presence even though she didn't actually see him.

Remembering something, she once again whispers in his ear, "I forgot to tell you, Stefan had spiked my drink with vervain"

"Ahh, he thinks I will bite you and then be weak enough for him to stuff me into the basement or something", Damon caught on looking a little pissed. Stefan doesn't give up, does he?

"So we will do the exact opposite", Caroline smirked.

"Exactly, it would confuse him even more", Damon exclaimed with a smirk of his own.

Reluctantly, he let go of Caroline's waist as she unhooked her arms from around his neck. As he straightens his suit while Caroline made sure her dress was in order, Damon tuned in his surroundings finally catching a glimpse of Stefan's behind one of the scrubs, who in turn didn't notice.

Bringing his hand to Caroline, he said teasingly with a smirk, "Let's go Miss Forbes. I will drop you home".

"Why sure Mr Salvatore. What a gentleman", Caroline replied with the same tone and a smile on her as she hooked her arm around his while they moved to exit the premises.

However, they didn't leave immediately as Damon pulled Caroline in for a dance just to the see stupefied expression on Stefan's face who was following them closes with a confused Elena who was busy wondering why she was getting ignored by her date.

Turns out that he was a great dancer as well but that didn't stop Caroline from threatening Damon that if he steps on her, he has to take her shopping.

After the song ended, they decided to actually leave this time, but not before introducing Damon to Mayor Lockwood and saying their goodbye to Carol Lockwood who for some reason seemed to be fond of Damon. Which was just weird. Like you have a husband, Ma'am. Now he had a meeting with the mayor tomorrow which was great. He was now one step closer to the council.

After the uneventful drive to Caroline's house, she pecked his right cheek as they notice that Stefan had followed them to her home. Whispering in his ear, requesting, more like ordering him to please stop sneaking into her room one night and let her finally get a good night's sleep for once in the whole week, to which Damon reluctantly agreed. Letting go she moved toward the door saying her goodbye as Damon moved back to his car saying see you later in response, the whole interaction leaving Stefan flabbergasted.

Caroline waited for Damon car to cross her street until she could no longer see it. When she finally felt Stefan's presence leave, probably still following her brother she ran straight up the stairs, tripping on the way to her room, rushing towards the drawings. Unlocking the last drawer she took out William Forbes's journal along with her black and blue supernatural journal as well and as well as some kind of keys while moving back downstairs, not before swapping her pearl handbag for a maroon backpack and her block heels for black sneakers. Walking towards the door she stuffed both the books in her bag, grabbing her car keys and shrugging on her Dads brown trenchcoat that was still hanging wooden rack by the door.

Locking the door, she sat in her car, starting up the engine heading towards the library where she knew she would find answers to the questions in on mind.

Stefan had watched his plan crashed and burned right in front of his eyes. He knew that using Caroline as bait was wrong but he just had to get rid of Damon by hook or by crook. Damon had unravelled too much destruction in this town and he had to be stopped.

But what the hell had just happened 2 hours ago? Stefan had followed Damon and Caroline all the way from the lit-up backyard of the Lockwood mansion to the Forbes resident waiting for Damon to bite down her jugular. But it never occurred. Their dynamics seemed the exact opposite of what Stefan speculated it was. He presumed that Caroline was just Damon's plaything, a means to an end, but he doesn't know what to believe anymore. They looked more like a couple than he and Elena, which was weird since Damon didn't do relationships.

"But that doesn't matter anymore", He uttered to no one in particular as he stuffed the unconscious Damon into the cellular in their basement.

Caroline was seated in her favourite spot by the window in the library with dim light, as she munched out the energy bar that she always carried with her, going over all the newspaper articles and reports that she could find from the late 18th century. The library had a whole cupboard dedicated to all the past families documents that weren't valuable anymore, among other things related to them.

She used to part-time here during the summers as she needs to make some extra cash. Hence the librarian had handed her an extra set of keys enabling her to get into the library and unlock any locked cupboard wanted to. She was supposed to return them earlier but had forgotten. And thank God for that. She just hopes no one takes notice of her. There were about two hours and a half for her mom to return home, just enough time to gather ample information.

Let's recap all the things she had found. The Salvatore Family was one of theFounding Families. The family originally comes from Florence, Italy, as mentioned in her ancestor William Forbes's journal, who was the Sheriff of the newly formed Mystic Falls at that time and also a very close friend of Giuseppe Salvatore.

Giuseppe was the father of Damon and Stefan, who was married to Lillian, their mother. Though William suggests that there might be a third Salvatore, an illegitimate child, as he was definitely cheating on his wife with a maid that worked for him. Looking at the worn-out out portrait she found of the whole family together, she had to admit that they were a good looking family.

He had raised his sons on his own after his wife, Lillian, had died of consumption in the year 1858 or at least that's what it seems to the outside world. In reality, he was just an abusive asshole especially

towards Lillian and Damon in particular.

Even though William might not have wanted to portray his friend in this kind of light, it was pretty apparent by his writings that Giuseppe was seen to be a very controlling, authoritative, stern father particularly with Damon who seemed to have gotten the bad end of the stick.

After his wife passed away, Giuseppe seemed to use alcohol as a coping mechanism which she felt was just an excuse for him to drink as much as he wanted. Thereupon the physical and emotional abuse on Damon seemed to have doubled while simultaneously he had a closer relationship with his youngest son, Stefan. He probably showed Stefan favouritism because he felt that Stefan was a more upstanding, responsible, ambitious, and dutiful son than Damon was. And here she thought that her family issues. The Salvatore's we're way worse. She felt so bad for Damon as she went through Williams entries. And the fact that her ancestor was the Sheriff but he didn't even raise an eyebrow against all that made her so angry.

Damon was born on June 18, 183,9 in Mystic Falls, Virginia according to this copy of the birth certificate she found in one of the piles. William described him as rebellious, carefree, troubled, impulsive, a womaniser and irresponsible and seemed to lack a general sense of direction. Which looked somewhat true from what she reads in the couple of news articles he has stared in. One of the articles even described Damon to be irresponsible and cowardly, including his own father Giuseppe just because he rebelled against the town's and his own father's wish, by leaving the Confederacy on his own terms during the time of the Civil War.

Stefan was born on November 1, 1846, in Mystic Falls, Virginia. According to her ancestor, Stefan was compassionate, kind, honourable, intelligent, responsible, dutiful, and a gentleman then exact opposite of his older brother. In other words, he was definitely seen as the "golden boy" and he had the admiration and respect of the entire town of Mystic Falls and most of all, of his father Giuseppe. And the fact that he aspired to become a doctor definitely gave him some brownie points.

The rest of the information seemed invalid so she decided to skip a few pages of Williams journal only to stop when she came across a new character. Katherine Pierce an orphan girl along with her handmaiden Emily Bennett, was hosted by the Salvatore family as Giuseppe had taken pity on her. She also stars in a few of the gossip columns of these newspapers. But there wasn't much about her except for the fact that she seemed to have a scandalous relationship with both the Salvatore brothers.

After that, there was nothing really valuable except for the narration of William Forbes bad attempt at flirty with someone call Pearl who was their vervain supplier at that time, even though he was married with kids. This is why she skipped his whole journal only reading the how to deal with a vampire part. Even though her ancestor was such a womaniser he had the audacity to doubt his wife for adultery. What an asshole. That's when she quit reading it any more than necessary.

Nonetheless, she was grateful that he jotted down every second of his life seeing how it was now helping her.

Skipping some more pages, she halts when she came across the word Vampire. Oh wow, she had not seen that coming Giuseppe suspected that Katherine was, in fact, a vampire which he had later disclosed to William.

As stated by William, almost all of the elders from the founding families knew about vampires and hated them with an undying passion. Johnathan Gilbert had created this compass that would somehow detect vampires. With the help of that, they succeeded in capturing 27 vampires (includingKatherine Pierce), After the vampires were poisoned with vervain, they were sealed inside of anabandoned church, that was later set on fire. This whole ordeal was covered up as being civilian casualties of theBattle of Willow Creek.

As mentioned in the journal, when Giuseppe witnessed his sons helpingKatherine

escape, he shoots them right in the chest. Omg, how could he do that? They were his own blood, his family.

"Katherine must have feed them her blood. That why they turned", Caroline thought. Giuseppe didn't have a better fate either was he was found dead the next day in the living room of his house by William himself. Probably killed by one of his sons. The obvious answer would have been Damon, but for some reason, she feels that it might have been Stefan, she doesn't know why.

And that's how the scandalous love triangle of a century ended. But that doesn't explain why they were here now? Katherine was dead and gone, wasn't she? Wait! Unless she wasn't actually dead. What if none of the 27 vampires are actually dead, instead are just magically trapped! This might be it. She actually might have cracked the code.

Now the only problem was that she couldn't find any portrait of this Katherine chick. She had found some of the Salvatore's, some of her ancestors, but none of Katherine. The only portrait she found was from first founders day which was a candid of Stefan and her dancing, but all you could see was her backside. This was so weird. It was all most like someone had gotten rid of all information about her.

Bring the portrait of Stefan and Katherine close she sighed, Who are you, Katherine?

A/N: Finally done chapter 14.

What do you think?

Do you like the Daroline dynamics???

It's like 4:00 am right now so there might be a lot of grammatical mistakes. Also, I have my finals beginning by end of this week so updates might get delayed. Okay, I am off to bed.

Reviews would be appreciated!!!
