Lex was full of excitement pointing things out to Lia even when she was small. Lia learned more about the Earth and animals than most would in school.

She was even bored at school. Her mother often teased her about being a young Sheldon. She cringed at that. She hated the Big Bang Theory. But her mother loved it.

Lex had even picked up the word, "Bazinga." Much to Lia's annoyance. But she loved her mother. When she wasn't as school Lex would drag her to the shooting range, put her in classes of self defense, have her train with all sort of weapons.

"World is more dangerous than you think. We have no rights to it. we simply exist."

Lia had often pondered those words. When she would ask her mother would just smile and play with a scar on her cheek before walking away.

Lia had a pretty amazing life she got to do things others didn't. Travel where others never got to. Her mother loved the world and wanted to share that love. Lia found she loved certain things of the world as well. The beauty behind the ugly.

She was 17 when they took a trip to Africa. She was going go to to a village school there. They never packed, never stayed in a place for long. This wouldn't be different.

She stared out the window of the small plane and swore she saw something shimmering before it was gone. She blinked then tapped the window was the window dirty. "Mom you saw that?"

She looked over hoping her mother had and it wasn't her eyes playing tricks on her. But there Lex was sound asleep next to her. Skeptical she looked back outside. The lush green trees caught her eyes. she could see some birds flying below them. So this...she thought, was Africa.

"Mom, wake up." She poked at Lex on the arm who just rolled her head away. "Mom!" She poked harder making Lex frown as her eyes fluttered open.

"We there already?" Her voice was laced with sleep making Lia chuckle.

"Yes we are here."

Lex looked out the window and smiled. "Beautiful." Lia chuckled at her mother's tired enthusiasm.

Lex stretched as she sat back her back popping. Most wouldn't be able to tell them apart. The only difference's between them is that Lia was lighter skinned with strange yellow eyes. Standing up as soon as they came to a stop Lex grabbed their bags and pulled Lia from her seat who barely had unbuckled.

Lia almost laughed her mother was acting like a kid in a candy shop. It was funny. Lex wanted to be the first off of course that didn't happen. The second they stepped outside. Lex spread her arms taking in the fresh air arms spread.

"Fresh air!" Lia had to agree it beat smelling the sweaty guy who had been in one seat in front of them. Stepping all the way down Lex kept Lia close. Lia understood. Africa may have been beautiful but it was still a deadly place to be.

Lex wasn't known to be trusting to strangers. She looked at her phone. Their ride should have been here by now.

Lia too picked up on this. "We could just rent a car..."

Lex shook her head. "They would have those rigged with trackers. They could hunt us down and do who knows what. We wait for our ride."

Lia frowned stiffening. She suddenly felt like she was being watched and looked around. Nothing was there a small group of men were talking in their language. She picked up on some words but they were too far away.

She felt uneasy. All she caught was woman, young, good fu-

Lex waved her hand. "Over here." Lia looked over seeing an old beat up car approaching. They soon would head over to the small village out towards the west away from civilization. Lia couldn't help the feeling of dread in her stomach as they got in.
