AN: Last installment guys, my first fanfiction is officially finished! I'm so excited!

REVIEWS:

Muffineater (Chapter 18): Yes, my own version is in the works. Unfortunately for you, I've decided to not post something until I've completely finished it, so you'll have to wait a while. Sorry, but it's a precaution in case my ending changes something nearer the beginning.

Muffineater (Chapter 26): I probably don't need to tell you that last chapter wasn't the end, but I'm going to anyway. Thank you for loving the story :)

Tim2060: I can't believe it either, especially since it was the first writing I'd done in about four years. Thank you for the correction and suggestion. Yes, that would be a great idea, but everything else I've written so far doesn't exactly work. (Either set when Stoick is still alive, and he dies pretty much straight after this story, as you'll see in the epilogue; or Toothless doesn't talk) I'll think about it.

EPILOGUE

The sun was shining over a deep blue sea, uninterrupted for miles. Well, almost. Strong black wings carried Toothless and his rider at terrific speeds, leaving a trench on the surface of sea just below them. The membranes were taut, rippling slightly in the wind, and Hiccup steered him left, straight through a pack of wild Thunderdrums.

They weaved through the dragons, curving from side to side, never more than five meters above the surface of the sea at any time. The alpha, who was leading the pack, leapt out of the water just in front of them, and Hiccup collapsed the tailfin as Toothless ducked under its wing, sending them into a tight spin.

"Higher!" Hiccup's Thoughts screamed in delight, and Toothless gladly aimed for the skies. They shot through the clouds, ducking and spinning, but always heading higher, and Toothless roared in exhilaration. They reached the top layer of clouds, and he let their momentum carry them upside down through a breathless moment of weightlessness, before plummeting downwards, a wide smile on his face. A long time before they got close to the sea, he spread his wings, and they glided towards the clouds again.

Toothless tucked in his wings and spun vertically upwards, until gravity took hold and they tipped over backwards, his wings limply forced upwards by the air rushing past them. When he deemed they'd fallen far enough, he pointed his face straight downwards and pulled in his wings, spinning until they were the right way up again. They swooped through the clouds, and Hiccup let go of the saddle as Toothless spun through an upside down curve.

There was a herd of Timberjacks waiting for them as they emerged from the clouds, and there was too much adrenaline pumping through his veins to not call out to them.

'Isn't it a wonderful day?'

'It is indeed, young ones,' A large female replied, and Toothless started to follow the herd, until he heard a creaking protest of joints, which made his heart sink.

'Not this again,' he moaned to Hiccup. Didn't you have enough danger a month ago?'

"You don't know this will end terribly, bud," Hiccup Thought , patting his head. "While we couldn't fly, I completely redid the Dragonfly. The problem was, I couldn't control the wings properly, so I've attached them to my wrists and ankles this time. And, to stabilize myself, I've got a fin on my back."

'Face it Hiccup, humans aren't supposed to fly on their own.'

"Well, I've never been very good at doing what I'm supposed to."

Hiccup reached down and pulled a switch to move the tailfin into gliding position, then flipped a lever to lock it into place. He unclipped his newly designed flight suit from the saddle, and sat up straight on Toothless' back.

"Ready?"

'No,' Toothless grumbled, but Hiccup didn't listen. He leant sideways suddenly, and slid right out of the saddle, plummeting headfirst with his hands by his sides.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!" The yell of excitement faded as Hiccup fell further away, then Toothless curved downwards. It was harder to maneuver with his tailfin locked in one position, but falling didn't require much talent.

He spun a few times, angling his wings so that he caught up to Hiccup, and they circled each other a few times.

"Whoooo! Yeah!" Hiccup whooped in excitement, and Toothless enjoyed it despite himself. There was something magical about the rush of air all around them, the knowledge that there was nothing to catch them if they fell, and the certainty that it was all going to be alright in the end. He let his tongue poke out of his mouth and tasted the fresh, salty, invigorating air.

The clouds parted beneath them, and Hiccup reached down—up?—to leather loops on his ankles. He pushed his hands through them, gripped them, and opened his arms. Leather wings stretched from his wrists to his ankles, caught the air, and a moment later, Toothless spread his own wings. They glided side by side, Hiccup slightly ahead of Toothless, wobbling unsteadily in the air. His prosthetic didn't help, and the unequal weight of his legs made it difficult to stay perfectly horizontal.

Then he reached in and stabbed a button on his chest, which made a fin, like the one on a killer whale's back, spring upright and stabilize him. He peered backwards over his shoulder at Toothless, who tilted his head.

'Fine, you win. This is pretty cool.'

Due to the smaller surface area of Hiccup's wings, he was gliding at a steeper angle than Toothless, who dipped to stay level with him. Toothless pulled fire into his mouth, and shot a plasma blast just below Hiccup, the resulting thermal pushing Hiccup higher.

They drifted into a thick patch of cloud, and Hiccup yelled, "This is amazing!"

A tall sea stack appeared out of the mist in front of them, and his voice became panicked.

"No longer amazing!" He ducked his head under his chest and yelled, "TOOTHLESS!"

'I KNEW THIS WAS A BAD IDEA!" Toothless roared, and tried to catch Hiccup.

Actively flying was a lot more complex than simply gliding, and with an unresponsive tailfin, he was just too slow.

"Oh no! OOH NOO!" Hiccup screamed in panic, and Toothless fired his strongest blast at the rock standing in front of them. The plasma blast ripped a hole through the side of the sea stack, as he caught up with Hiccup and wrapped him in his wings, protecting him from the hot fire and shrapnel. They fell uncontrollably downwards, slammed into the top of a small island, and rolled down the hill, crushing bushes and snapping branches as they went. Hiccup grunted with every impact, then they rolled to a stop and lay there, panting from adrenaline and terror in a small clearing on the edge of the island.

Hiccup switched his flying prosthetic to his walking one and stood up. Toothless got to his feet, and shook his head. That had been a bad landing; he was bruised all over. Thankfully Hiccup seemed unharmed, and it was nothing compared to the crash on the Crystal Islands.

Crack! Rumble! Toothless looked behind to see where the noise was coming from, and saw the sea stack he had blasted collapse into the sea, releasing a cloud of dust. Whoops.

'I told you this was a bad idea,' Toothless grumbled, and Hiccup started putting his wings away.

"We—we gotta work on your solo gliding there, bud. That locked-up tail makes for some pretty sloppy rescue maneuvers, hey?"

THE END

AN: So, I promised you a list of my completed writing that I'm willing to post, and here it is:

1) My Real One was Red – A oneshot about 5 to 6k words. Finding a way to grow Toothless' tail back, Hiccup grasps it with both hands. Unfortunately, Toothless absolutely hates the new fin. The problem is: he doesn't dare tell Hiccup.

2) Koo-Keys – Another oneshot about 5k words long. It's not fun having a stomach ache. It's even worse when you know you could have avoided it if you'd listened to your rider. Trader Johan brings in a new thing from down south called 'koo-keys', and Hiccup buys a batch. Ever curious, Toothless snatches some when Hiccup knocks them onto the floor.

3) Nightmares – I know, creative title. Anyway, it's a oneshot with about 3k words. The incident with the Bewilderbeast left scars on both Hiccup and Toothless. But for the first time ever, what helps one terrifies the other.

4) Cold – I'm not so happy with the way this one turned out, but I'm guessing that you guys won't notice many problems, so I'm not going to mention what I think is wrong with it. This is longer, six parts and 15k words in total. A simple tradition turns into a four day trek over a mountain without any equipment. On top of that, there's a vicious blizzard closing in, and Toothless finds himself in charge of four Vikings who are totally unsuited for cold weather—typical humans.

There's also a long work that's in progress, and two more stories about as long as Cold, that are currently being beta-ed. I've read other fanfictions that have good ideas and plots, but are a pain to read because of grammar mistakes, so I tried out a beta (httydfangirl123). She's beta-ed two chapters so far and said she didn't find any grammar mistakes, so I'm ecstatic!

So, if you PM me or review, then I'll count up the one with the most votes and post or start posting it next Sunday. In the (hopefully) unlikely event that no one responds, I'll just wait until I get a response before posting again.

Thank you to everyone who has read, favorited, followed, or reviewed this story. You guys are the best!
