(Meanwhile, back in the alternate timeline)
Volastor's eyes creaked open, his head spinning momentarily.
As he came around, he noticed that he was lying on the ground in a completely white room. There didn't seem to be any details, as if it were an entirely blank space.
Slowly standing up, he groaned,"Huh? W-What is this place? Where am I? How did I get here?"
His question remained unanswered. Uncertain what to do, he decided to call out for help,"VELVET! ALASTOR! ANYONE? IS ANYONE THERE!? PLEASE SAY SOMETHING!"
At first, there was no response to his questions. Volastor growled, growing frustrated at the silence. This area was far too quiet for his liking and he couldn't help but feel something wasn't right with this area.
'Perhaps this is just a dream of some kind...Though I've never had one like this. All my dreams at least had something resembling color to them. Even the...painful ones…" He mumbled, recalling the nightmares he had about Alastor and Vox, the ones he knew before they erased themselves and how he tried to...kill them.
It haunted him and to an extent, it still did. The nightmare had plagued him for the longest time and even after reassuring himself that it was all a figment of his imagination, it felt too real for his comfort.
Regardless, he was certain he was not in that type of dream. Though he wasn't certain if that was a positive since he was currently trapped in a blank space with no visible way out and trying to wake himself up seemed impossible….
Suddenly, Volastor heard someone shout,"SOMEONE HELP ME!"
Vol blanked, the voice was coming from further away and he could see someone in the distance. He couldn't see who the person was exactly but he decided that against his better judgment to investigate.
Needless to say, he was very apprehensive and bewildered when he got closer, realizing that it was Vox. Despite there being no physical difference between him and the Vox he knew personally, Vol could tell right off the bat it was the one he held with contempt. He was reluctant to get any closer, but Vox must've spotted him and rushed over to him like a maniac. Before Vol could react, Vox embraced him in a completely one-sided hug.
"Volastor! Thank fucking god someone showed up! I can't say I've ever been happier to see you here…"
Volastor narrowed his eyes before firmly pushing Vox away, glaring daggers at his component,"Remove yourself from me, Vox."
"Huh?"
"You heard me. Unhand me or face the consequences," Vol growled, giving Vox a look to serve as a warning.
'Vox' removed himself, looking dejected,"Oh...I see how it is. I take it that you're still angry at me, aren't you?"
"What did you expect?" Vol asked coldly,"I most certainly didn't forget if that's what you're wondering. Hard to ignore being called an abomination several times. I'm not sure how you got in my dreams, but I'd appreciate it if you got out of my head, Vox. Your presence isn't wanted here so do what your real counterpart did and scream. I want nothing to do with you and I don't need you plaguing my dreams with your existence."
The TV Demon tensed,"Vol, I get your upset but I really do need your help. I don't have a full grasp on the situation but if you don't do something...the real Vox will die.."
"And how is that? The only way Vox can die is if he's hit with a holy weapon and the only people who are stronger than him are royalty or other higher ups. Unless Vox did something to provoke them, I doubt this isn't something he deserved."
"You don't understand, Vol. This isn't some high official we're talking about, it's Valentino…"
"What? But Val is dead…."
"Maybe this one...but not the one the real Vox is dealing with…" 'Vox' then growled,"Look, there isn't that much time left, Vol. This situation is pretty bad and I'd appreciate it if you took this seriously. Even if you don't like Vox, do you really believe Val should kill him?"
Vol said, shaking his head, remaining silent. Still, he didn't seem all too eager to go on the mission.
"Ultimately, it's up to you on what you choose to do, Vol. I can't really force you to do anything. I'm not really a real person, at least not in the conventional sense…"
"Wait...What even are you exactly? You've made it clear you're not Vox...but how are you taking his form and why?"
'Vox' smirked, an amused grin growing on his screen,"You really wanna know huh? Well I'll explain it this way, I'm basically a manifestation of that crystal implanted in your chest, the sole reason for your existence. While I'm not the crystal that created you originally, thanks to being inserted inside your chest, I have knowledge of everything you've been through down to the tiniest detail."
Volastor stared at him in disbelief,"You're kidding…"
"Do I look like I'm kidding,Vol? Come on, I'm many things but I'm not a liar. I know everything about you and while we're far from the same person, we both require each other to exist in some capacity. I offer you an existence as your heart, and you offer me a suitable host that is able to act on my behalf and see the world for me."
"That is hardly an arrangement I agreed to," Vol replied flatly.
"Are you one to complain? I'm the reason you're even alive…"
"Wrong, the Alastor and Vox I knew are the reason I'm alive. I would've died had they not merged with me."
"Without me they would've never been able to save you, Vol. But enough about me, the topic at hand is about Vox. I don't know everything, but from the plea he sent out, he sounds like he's in trouble with Val. He must've traveled to a different timeline, started something and now Val wants his head."
"How are you even aware of this?"
"Beats me," 'Vox' shrugged,"If I had to guess, we all share some connection to each other as at one point, he was once a part of you just like I am currently. If I had to guess, if Alastor was in the same circumstance and called for help, the same thing would happen."
"I...I see…" Vol sighed,"I suppose that means I have to go rescue him, yes?"
"I can't really do anything physically, but I do compel you to go after Vox. I understand you two have our differences and I won't lie, he was a massive ass, but if he's calling for help, he must truly need it. Perhaps if you save him, you two can rebuild your relationship."
Vol scoffed,"You're being far too naive. I want very little to do with Vox, but I will rescue him, more so out of duty if anything. As much as I dislike him, I can't allow Valentino to kill him…"
"Whatever your reasons are, the goal is what matters. I wish you the best of luck, Vol. Though I should send you back…"
"Obviously you should," Vol replied, rolling his eyes,"Well, aren't you going to do something or what-ARGH!"
A bright light eloped Vol's vision, and for a moment, it felt like he was falling, just like he had when he was created. His life flashes before his eyes before gasping,"GAH!"
Vol painted before feeling a bead of sweat trickle down his cheek, his heart nearly broke out of his chest. He grasped his head as the pain,"D-Dammit...Was that real?" It felt so real, but a part of him was still in disbelief at what had happened. Even compared to everything else that occurred, it just felt too out of place to occur, but Vol knew damn well that he couldn't have hallucinated it…
"Vol, are you alright?"
He turned around, now seeing Alastor and Velvet giving him concerned looks. He blanked, he swore when he went inside the library that they weren't there before.
"H-How long were you two there for?"
"Like three minutes," Velvet said flatly, hands placed on her hips,"We just came to check on you and noticed that you were just staring out into space like a weirdo."
"W-What? I thought I was sleeping…"
"Well you were sleeping weird because you were staring at us with your eyes open and the Radio and TV Static was almost deafening. Starting to be glad we never slept in the same bed if this is how you sleep. Where did you even get that from?"
Alastor coughed several times.
"Oh...That explains a lot…" Velvet mumbled,"No offense, Al, but I just ain't used to that shit…"
"None taken…"
"Velvet, Alastor," Vol said,"I don't mean to interrupt but I have some news to share…"
"About what?" Alastor asked,"Is this something important?"
"Yes...It's about Vox…"
Velvet tensed, becoming apprehensive along with Alastor. The two overlords gave each other weary looks, remembering what had happened prior with Vox's plane. They had yet to tell Vol what had happened and feared what his reaction would be if they did tell him.
"What about him, Vol?"
"He's currently in danger. At least, that's what I'm led to believe…"
"How can you know?" Alastor asks,"None of us even know where he is, how can you tell that he's in danger, Vol?"
"My gem told me he was…"
"Your gem said what now?" Velvet asked, giving her boyfriend a skeptical gaze,"Vol, I know I ain't exactly right in the head but I think you've got something wrong if you think that little power-source in your chest is talking to you…"
"I'm not losing my mind, Velvet," Vol retorted, rolling his eyes,"Believe me, as insane as it sounds, my gemstone is in fact conscious to a degree. He came to me, using Vox's form to try and get me to help him."
The Doll Demon blanked,"He? How the hell do you know that thing is a he? It's literally an ancient artifact, it shouldn't even have a gender in the first place."
"Perhaps it assumes the gender of whoever wields it," Alastor suggested,"I doubt the gemstone itself has a gender, but given its components and host are male, it's likely it would assume a masculine identity. Though I'm not quite sure why the gem decided only now to voice about Vox. If he could've done this earlier, why didn't he?"
"Likely because Vox wasn't in danger or asking for help," Vol said,"Regardless, I believe we should stop debating things that don't matter and go and rescue him."
"Wait, you WANT to go and rescue him?" Velvet asked.
"I wouldn't be asking you two to come with me if I didn't. Why?"
"Well, nothing against you, Vol. But you and Vox's relationship was anything but pleasant while he was around. It just comes off as a shock you'd willingly go and rescue him, especially after all the words exchanged between you two."
"Believe me, I don't want to save him, but considering the alternative is him getting killed by Val, I believe saving him and then pretending this event never happened would suffice."
"So...you're not gonna try and talk to him once you rescue him?"
"No. I'd rather not. I just barely have come to terms with what happened and I believe letting him back into my life would hinder that. What he said to me is something I cannot forgive or forget. I'm merely saving him out of obligation, not out of any desire to have his companionship. The moment we rescue him from the situation he got himself into, we'll be out of that timeline faster than the blink of an eye."
"Really, Vol?" Velvet asked,"You're gonna go out of your way to save him but you won't engage with him? Don't you think that's a bit harsh? Especially since Vox may have actually changed-"
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Velvet. Vox isn't someone who is capable of changing. You'd have to delude yourself pretty heavily to believe otherwise."
"Then about the Vox you knew? Didn't he change?"
"He was different. We may not have liked each other at first, but there were different circumstances. The Vox I knew was someone I saw as a parental figure and the other one...He was supposed to fill in the gap but we all know how that turned out," He said bitterly,"I understand what you're trying to imply, Velvet. But it's not the same. Not to mention, the other Vox at least never called me an abomination when he was around. I mean, it wasn't like I wasn't aware of that, but it hurts more when you see someone who wears the face of the person you cared deeply for say that. Then again, I can't expect you to know, you don't know what it's like to have someone identical to the one you lost call you a monster..."
Velvet tensed,"Vol, I didn't mean it like that-"
"I know, Velvet. After all, you never mean to do things. If only 'I didn't mean to' could take back the pain and your past actions. What I'd give for that to be the case…" He said mournfully, his teeth clenching.``Because now I have to live the rest of my life knowing I got the ones I cared for though it's been some time, the wound has barely begun to heal.
Alastor's face scrunched up before grabbing Vol's shoulder,"Vol, I understand that you're still in pain, but please refrain from taking it out on those around you. We can't understand what you're going through completely, but we're still going to be there for you as long as you let us…"
"Easy for you to say…"
Alastor sighed,"Look Vol, why don't you just take us to the timeline so we can get to Vox?"
"Fine. Grab onto my gem…"
"You sure this is gonna work?" Velvet asked,"I don't wanna get stuck in the wrong timeline…"
"I doubt the gem would lead me astray now…."
"Only one way to find out…" Alastor put his hand on Vol's chest, Velvet following afterwards. Moments later, they all became enveloped in a bright light that consumed the area, teleporting them out of the timeline.
Husk hissed in pain as he was shot at by the army they were fighting. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't fighting hundreds of people and even with their own weapons, it was becoming obvious they were getting overrun at this point.
Even with the reinforcements, it appeared that Val and Vel's men had better weapons than their side did and were chipping away at their army.
Husk decided to take to the skies in order to sustain an advantage, as none of their men possessed the ability to fly like he did. Normally he was too lazy to use his wings, but his fight-or-flight instincts kicked in and told him to choose flight rather than fighting on the ground. He used the guns that he equipped himself with to fire from above, shouting,"DIE DAMMIT! Quit moving so I can shoot you bastards right!"
As Husk was shooting at them, he noticed several people were trying to shoot him. Due to the distance and Husk's quick reflexes, the bullets had missed,"Ha! Fuckers can't get me up here! Take that bitches!"
Suddenly, Husk's ears caught the sound of a chopper in the distance,"Huh? What the hell?" He then noticed that a helicopter was not too far away from him and noticed a missile had been launched in his direction at unparalleled speed, crashing into him as it exploded on impact,"AAAAAAARRRRRGGGHH!"
Moments later, Husk collapsed onto the ground with a loud thud. The cat growled in agony as he landed on his side, cursing his luck,'Stupid fucking chopper! Stupid missiles! These fuckers have just about everything don't they!? What's next, a fucking nuke!? With how crazy these bastards are, they'll probably nuke the place before they stand down!'
"Husk!" Niffty rushed over to him, Cherri following after as the taller cyclops threw bombs to keep the opposing army at bay.
"Are you alright, Husk?"
"Yeah, just peachy," He replied sarcastically,"Couldn't be doing any better. Just got shot with a missile so obviously I'm doing fan-fucking-tastic…"
Niffty didn't seem too affected by his blatant sarcasm, now looking at his gashes and wounds,"Husk you need medical attention."
Husk rolled his eyes into the back of his skull,"Tell me something I don't know. But I'm not certain I'm going to get that attention while these assholes keep shooting us."
Cherri then tensed,"Uh guys…"
"What?"
"Not to make the situation worse, but I kind of ran out of explosives…"
"How did you run out of explosives!?" Husk asked,"Don't you always carry those things around?"
"Yeah, but it's not like I got an infinite supply! That stuff eventually runs out and I can't restock while these assholes are here!"
"What do we do?" Niffty asked,"They're coming closer!"
"I have an idea," Husk forced himself to stand up before grabbing the girls and using himself as a shield,"Not sure how long I can hold out, but considering I'm already injured I'm going to do what I can to keep you two from getting obliterated."
Niffty seemed ready to protest but Husk wasn't even listening, bracing himself for impact, waiting for the barrage of bullets to pierce his skin. He could hear them aiming their guns and reloading, awaiting the inevitable when suddenly…
Nothing happened. For a couple seconds, Husk didn't understand what was going on.'What the fuck? Why aren't they shouting at us?'
Suddenly Husk heard screaming behind him. He didn't get why the army was screaming at first, at least until he heard someone shout,"HOLY SHIT! IT'S THE RADIO DEMON! HE'S BACK!"
Husk's eyes snapped awake, now turning around completely to see if what they said was true. To his shock, he saw Alastor's back towards him, the overlord was using his magical powers to deal with the army.
"H-Holy shit...It really is you, Al…. You came back…"
"Indeed I have…" Alastor said, not turning towards him,"You sound surprised. Did you think I'd let you die here?"
"Well I didn't think you'd come back at all…"
"You should know better than to doubt me, Husker…" Alastor replied. Despite not being able to see his face, he could tell Alastor seemed somewhat amused by his statement.
It didn't take long for Alastor to annihilate that portion of the army attacking them. Once the danger had passed, Husk allowed the girls to stand up. Niffty quickly caught sight of Alastor and lunged at him, clinging to his waist,"AL! YOU'RE BACK! I knew you'd come back for us! I'm so happy! I missed you so much!"
"As did I, darling…" Alastor patted her over the head, allowing the smaller woman to embrace him. He wasn't much of a fan of hugs, but he decided to make an exception in a time like this."Err..Darling, your hug is a bit tight…"
"Oh sorry," She removed herself sheepishly,"I kind of forgot my own strength for a moment…"
Husk limped forward with Cherri beside him. Husk painted,"T-Thanks for saving our asses back there, Al. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I've never been more happy to see you in my entire life and-Argh!" His legs gave out, Alastor quickly catching him before he fell,"You didn't need to-"
"Yes I did," Alastor cut him off,"I'm not going to let you fall, especially in a state like this. Niffty, Cherri, you two need to get Husk medical attention."
"What?" Husk asked,"But I don't wanna leave just yet...I wanna at least see how shit plays out…"
"I understand, but you cannot stay here. This is a battle-field Husk, and given your past, I believe you of all people should know that being injured and staying behind in a situation like this helps no one. You need to be taken somewhere nobody can get to you."
"But-"
"Husker, I'm not asking you to go along with this, I'm demanding you do. And if you're worried for your safety while traveling, I'll have my shadow accompany you to ensure you three get back safe and sound. Understand?" He said this while referencing his shadow that peered over his shoulder.
"I guess…" Husk mumbled, struggling to maintain his balance.
Alastor then handed Husk to Cherri, who carried him over his shoulder,"You know what to do, don't you?"
"Yeah, don't worry old-man. I got this. Me and Niffty are gonna get Husk some medical attention, you can go do whatever you plan on doing…"
"Watch who you call old, Cherri," Alastor retorted before looking at his shadow,"Make sure nothing happens to them. I don't want any mishaps occurring…"
The shadow nodded before following after the three, keeping a close eye on them just as intended. Alastor then sighed, surveying the area. The entire place was in chaos, destruction was everywhere and he could smell something burning. He traced the location of the smoke and saw that the Happy Hotel was burning not too far away.
"Oh…" That was all he could say. He wasn't exactly surprised, but he did feel disappointed when he saw it burn down. The Hotel was now more or less a shadow of what it once was...Not like that was saying much, but it was charred and the flames were rising by the second.
Suddenly, he heard someone running towards him. The next thing he knew, Charlie was grabbing his coat and shouting,"Alastor! What happened!? How did you get there!?"
"How can it be explained at another time, but as for what happened, my best guess is that Valentino or his men burned down the Hotel while you were away during the fight.."
Charlie...looked beyond devastated as she looked at what remained of her hotel, tears flowing down her face,"M-My hotel...it's gone…I...I can't believe it."
"I'm sorry, Charlie. I know I always believed your little cause was a joke but I never thought that something like this would occur…"
Charlie didn't say anything. Vaggie caught up with her girlfriend, tensing at the fire,"Oh my god…Hun, I'm so sorry…"
Suddenly, they heard a scream from inside the building. Charlie gasped,'Someone's inside! I gotta go rescue them!"
"Charlie, that building is completely covered in fire! You'll get hurt and-" Vaggie's words fell on deaf ears as Charlie rushed inside the building. Vaggie was about to chase after her, but Alastor stopped her from pursuing,"HEY! LET ME GO ME SHITLORD! HANDS OFF!"
Alastor narrowed his eyes,"I'm afraid I can't do that. You'll just get yourself hurt…"
Vaggie tried to force herself out of Alastor's grip but he wasn't letting her. For someone so skinny, he had a grip of steel. Moments later, Charlie came out of the building. With the exception of her torn clothes, carrying something in her hands.
Vaggie and Alastor blinked when they saw that Charlie was carrying what appeared to be a pig.
"Holy shit, is that-"
"Yeah,it's Fat Nuggets…" Charlie said, carrying the pig in her arms. He wasn't moving and Charlie was looking down,"I found him in Angel's room, he was under the bed. He hasn't moved since I got him. I don't know what to do…"
"Hun...I'm sorry…But I think the smoke must've got to him…"
There was a moment of silence, the three demons not knowing what to do. They were at a loss of what their next move was.
Abruptly, they heard Angel screaming,"CHARLIE! THANK GOD YOU'RE HERE!" Angel rushed towards them with Arackniss following after,"We finally lost that pig-tailed bitch. Never have I been more happy to see you! Now has anyone seen Nuggs? I need to know where he is! Tell me to escape!"
"Angel…" Charlie revealed to Fat Nuggets,"I...I'm sorry but...he hasn't moved since I got to him…"
Angel twitched before holding his arms out, Charlie handed his pet over.
Angel shook Fat Nuggets,"Come on boy! Don't die on me! You're my baby, Daddy still needs you Nuggs! Don't die on me just yet, stay with me! Please Nuggs! Don't die on me!"
The pig remained limp. Angel started to cry,"DAMMIT! I couldn't save him..Maybe if I had just gone with Val, he'd still be here with us…"
"Don't talk like that, Angel. There was nothing you could do. This is your fault, it's Val's…" Charlie pat him on the shoulder, the spider began to cry, a tear landing on Fat Nugget's body.
Fat Nuggets then opened his eyes before licking Angel's chin weakly.
"Nuggs! You're alive!" Angel hugged Fat Nuggets close to his chest,"I knew you could pull through! I'm so happy you're alive, baby! You scared me to double-death!" Angel began kissing his pet as tears of joy came out of his eyes, Fat Nuggets squealing happily.
Everyone present sighed in relief. Arackniss wiped his brow,"Thank god that pig pulled through. Anthony was gonna kill himself out of grief if that creature died…"
This moment of relief however, didn't last as Arackniss was suddenly grabbed by Velvet, who held him at axe-point,"Did you really think you could run from me? You must be dumber than a sack of bricks if you thought that would work…"
"Velvet!" Charlie shouted,"Let Arackniss go!"
"Afraid I can't do that, you see Val kind of needs him really badly. I was gonna take both spiders, but considering Angel is under your protection, why don't we work something out? Arackniss goes with me, I get Val to leave you and your hotel rejects you. How about that? Sounds fair?"
"No deal!" Angel shouted,"Arackniss ain't going with you! If you had any common sense, you'd stand down. We've got the Princess and the Radio Demon on our side, Velvet. You stand no chance against us. Surrender Arackniss to us and go crawl back from the hole you came out of."
"I don't surrender, Angel. But if you won't comply, I guess I'll have to kill him…" Velvet threatened to use her axe on him and gave everyone looks,"One wrong move and this cutie gets his head cut off."
Nobody moved, the group giving each other weary glances.
Arackniss tensed when he saw how close Velvet's axe was to his neck. He braced himself for the worst, but was suddenly forced onto the floor when Velvet let him go. He growled in agony before looking behind him to see what caused Velvet to release him.
Only to see another Velvet had knocked her out with the stick part of her axe with Volastor behind her.
"W-What? There are two…" Arackniss backed away on instinct, flinching in fear.
"Don't worry," Vol said,"We're here to help. This Velvet is friendly as well, so don't be scared…"
The other Velvet then outstretched her hand,"Need a hand?"
Arackniss didn't accept her hand, causing Vol to offer it. Arackniss accepted as he regained his balance, giving the knocked out overlord a look. He kicked her to check if she was unconscious,"She's out cold…"
"Trust me, I know," Velvet snickered,"You won't have to worry about her. She's out like a light."
Volastor then began to examine the area with narrowed eyes.
Velvet gave her boyfriend a look,"Vol, is something wrong?"
"Vox isn't it here." Vol stated, looking at the damaged battle-field. Despite the chaos, Vol still could tell that Vox and Valentino were not in the area.
"Are you looking for him?" Charlie asked.
"Obviously. Do you know where he is?"
Charlie shook her head,"Haven't seen him. I just got here and I had no idea this was happening until now…"
Vol scoffed,"Figures. What about everyone else? Do you know where Vox is?"
Angel shook his head,"Not really. Last I saw Vox, he teleported Val and him out of the area. He could be anywhere by now. He never told us where he was going. I think he wanted to settle this by himself and didn't want anyone to intervene so he made sure nobody could follow after him. Though I suggest you all hurry, Val is a slippery bastard and while I have no doubt Vox is stronger than him, Val isn't someone to be underestimated and can get the better of anyone if a person ain't careful enough."
Charlie motioned for Vol, Alastor and Velvet,"Come on you three! My parents have one of the fastest cars in this Circle! We should be able to get anywhere if my Dad floors it hard enough!"
There was a mutual nod between the three demons as they hopped inside the car as it floored off in the distance.
Vaggie, Arackniss and Angel watched them leave before Arackniss growled, looking at his amputated arm,"F-Fuck! That bitch chopped my arm off and it hurts like a bitch!"
Angel comforted his brother, keeping him steady with his extra arms,"Don't worry, Niss. We're gonna get you patched up…Hey Vag, you have bandages on you?"
Vaggie nodded,"I always carry first-aid on me. You can never be too careful down here after all." Vaggie then began to bandage Arackniss up on the side-walk.
Angel pat Fat Nuggets and looked up worriedly in the direction the others left. He couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen soon….
Thanks for 8,470 views everyone! Tell me what you think of the chapter below!
Before anyone asks, the crystal can only really manifest in Vol's head in 'physical' form. It cannot do that in reality because Vol is acting as it's host(keeping them alive and all). Vox, Vol, Al all have a connection towards each other, especially since they were all together at one point.
And the reason no one teleports to Vox is because no one knows where he is. Like IMO for demons to teleport you at least have to know the area and where the person is...Vox is legit in a far away City in Pride where nobody can get to him. For instance, Alastor teleports to areas he's familiar with and Husk and Niffty in certain instances, but I imagine since he owns them through deals, he has a direct connection to them and can always tell where they are. No one really has that with Vox since he doesn't have anyone owning his soul and even the crystal itself only has a faint connection with him.
Enigms-288: No prob. Also, the reason Vox is scared is because A. Val revealing his wings and grabbing him caught him off guard. He wasn't anticipating on Val flying at him. Val's wings are basically a safety cushion from fall damage as Val can just fly if all else fails. Vox doesn't have this luxury. B. Vox really doesn't wanna fight Val. He was kind of hoping that Val would leave them alone n the beginning, but since Val persisted, Vox was forced in a situation where he had to confront him. Even when Vox came to the conclusion he had to put an end to Val, he wasn't happy. He still somewhat fears him despite everything because of all the nasty stuff Val did over the years. Strength also isn't much of a factor when the person your fighting is literally sending you flying over a roof-top .
Also, Vox can't fly so if he falls...it's gonna hurt like a bitch. He can teleport, but he can't fly so any height related stunts from a high angle would injure him while Val's wings can help prevent him from taking damage from height related stunts. Teleporting in mid-air while you're fighting your ex is a very bad idea, especially since Val will be teleported with him.
Chronosign: Vox is planning on taking Val himself. As far as he's concerned, he started this mess, he's going to finish it himself, regardless of the cost. But he ain't going down without a fight. This is Vox's responsibility and the city they're fighting is has been evacuated. It's one v one and he's gonna at least try and be smart about it. But we'll see that in Chapter 59-60.
PS: For anyone curious, I've updated Vol's design.
