It didn't take long for Micheal and Lilith to start a full term relationship. It was like a match made in Heaven, the two were practically made for each other. Once they got invested you couldn't have separated them if you tried.
In order to keep up the communication between them, Micheal and Lilith often 'face timed' each other from their respective realms whenever they couldn't physically visit each other. And when they could visit each other, they practically traveled everywhere, Hell, Heaven, even Earth from time to time to visit the better sides of the world.
They were spending so much time together that Gabriel had to confiscate Micheal's phone on several occasions to stop him from talking to Lilith in the middle of the press conference. It was getting to the point that they were taking turns deciding who was going to snap Micheal out of his day-dream whenever he got caught up in his thoughts.
Even then, the moment the meeting was over Micheal went right back to what he was doing without a care in the world…
Gabriel groaned as they walked down the hallway, they were heading to Micheal's office to confront him about how distracted he was. The longer the relationship went on, the more apparent it was that something was clouding his mind, especially now. Nowadays he didn't pay attention in meetings, constantly tried to find ways out of social situations so he could spend time with Lilith and was even avoiding the others.
Out of concern for their brother's well being, Gabriel marched over to his office and took a peek inside. When they looked around they saw Micheal sitting in his chair, eyeing his hand with a large smile ear to ear, giggling softly to himself.
'What is he doing now?' Raising an eyebrow they decided to make themselves heard, clearing their voice,"Ahem. Micheal? Are you alright here?"
"Hm?" He snapped out of his trance before nodding,"Oh it's just you, Gabriel. I'm perfectly fine, why do you ask?"
"I just wanted to speak to you about your recent behaviour," They said.
"Recent behaviour?"
"Don't play dumb with me, you know what I'm talking about. This...love-struck emotion that's encompassing your being is clouding your judgment on a daily basis. Ever since you and Lilith started taking your relationship seriously you haven't been able to take your mind off of her. It's like you're obsessed with that woman!"
"I'm not obsessed," He shot back,"There's a difference between love and obsession, Gabriel."
"Hard to tell when you rave about her nonstop. It feels like you only think about her!
"You're exaggerating."
"Hardly," They snapped,"Ever since you and Lilith got together it feels like she's always on your mind. This level of attachment is absurd, how can you be so wrapped around her finger like this!? She could be using you for Heaven's sake and you're none the wiser!"
"She's not using me," Micheal hissed,"I know you don't approve of our relationship but you don't need to be accusing Lilith of such awful things!"
"It's not out of the question, you know how Lilith is. She's very manipulative and I don't trust her intentions with you. It's bad enough you're in a relationship with her but the fact you're this love-struck with her is rather concerning…"
"If you were in an intimate relationship you'd understand how I feel," Micheal huffed,"Just because you can't understand my feelings doesn't mean they are exaggerated. Perhaps if you weren't so distant you'd be able to find someone who'd make you feel loved just like I do…"
They rolled their eyes,"Intimacy and I don't mix, Micheal. I cannot afford to get attached to another being and make myself look like a fool who is head over heels with their lover. Someone has to have common sense around here and I can't have myself becoming illogical over a woman."
"Like you wouldn't do the same. You know how I felt about Lilith for all these years! One of the decisions I regret was not confessing in time because Samuel had already stolen her heart before I could even tell her how I felt."
Gabriel tensed, they remembered Michal's reaction to Samuel claiming Lilith's heart and helping rebel against the Heavens.
After they were banished along with everyone else who rebelled Micheal had become rather irritable. All the other angels just thought he was upset he had to banish his twin and while that was a part of it, Gabriel knew there was another factor to it.
Because eons ago, Gabriel decided to check on Micheal shortly after Samuel's rebellion only to see him standing in a destroyed room of his own making. He had destroyed his room in a fit of anger and when Gabriel approached him...he was clutching a locket with Lilith's face in it close to his chest while crying…
Only to then look up at them and coldly ask what they were doing. When they explained they came to see if he was alright, Micheal merely shrugged off their concern, telling them that he was 'fine' and that they needed to mind their own business. When they tried comforting Micheal..he shoved them aside and demanded they leave but not before threatening them to never speak of this situation again or else the consequences would be severe….
"I thought you never wanted to speak of that day…"
"It's been eons, I've long since matured past that point. Wasn't my best move and I'm a bit ashamed I hadn't apologized for my behaviour towards you."
"It's fine," They said,"It happened so long ago that it hardly matters. Still, are you certain you trust Lilith? She could be using you…"
"No matter how conniving she is, there's one thing I know about Lilith, she cannot fake her emotions for long periods of time. It's been several months and I think she would've slipped up by now if her feelings weren't genuine. Especially now…"
"What do you mean, especially now?"
"Because Lilith and I are getting married!"
Their eyes widened in disbelief,"What? Married? But it's only been a few months since you two got together! Don't you think it's a little too soon to go on with a full-blown wedding?!"
"Relax, Gabriel. We've talked about this several times and I have to admit, when she proposed the idea of marriage I was a bit taken back too. But considering we've known each other for over a year, it doesn't feel necessary to hold it off. We've long since passed the point of testing the waters in our relationship. I've never been so happy in my entire life and I can't wait for it to be official!"
"When's it going to happen?"
"Today, Lilith and I have just the place in mind and all we need is for everyone to be ready. What do you think, my dear sibling?"
"I...I don't quite trust this, Micheal. You know how I feel about Lilith but...if this is what makes you happy then I suppose I'll try and be happy for you to the best of my ability."
"Thank you, Gabriel. That really means a lot…" He then noticed their worried expression,"Is something wrong? I thought you were happy for me…"
"I am..I'm just worried about Samuel's reaction to the news...You know how he is…"
Micheal chuckled,"Oh that? Don't worry, Gabriel. Everyone already knows about us by now. I'm certain he's at least come to terms with the fact Lilith isn't with him anymore. He's never even brought it up so I don't think there's too much to worry about."
"Still, are you certain bringing him to the wedding is a good idea in his current state of mind?"
"Of course it is!" Micheal pouted,"Why wouldn't I invite my brother to my wedding? I can't leave him out, that'd be unfair. He deserves to be there just like the rest of us. Just because he's...different doesn't mean he can't be allowed to attend. Especially since I have plans on him being my best man!"
"You do?"
"Yup! He's my twin and I felt that giving him a 'special' position would be fitting! I still want him to know that he still holds a place in my heart that's just for him! How does that sound?"
"That sounds...fine...Though we should probably tell the others…"
"Fantastic idea! Though can you do me a favor?"
"Hm?"
"Can you tell Samuel that he's my best man? I have to get ready and I need to focus on my appearance."
"Do I have to?"
"Please…"
"Alright, fine. I'll do it…" They then flinched when Micheal hugged them.
"Thank you so much! You're a lifesaver! Though I have to go, I have a wedding to prepare for! See you at the Garden of Eden, we'll be waiting there for you!"
Gabriel sighed as they were left alone, pinching the bridge between their eyes,'Dammit, Micheal. Course you saddle me with the inconvenient jobs...Oh well, better go tell everyone the news…'
Telling the other Angels was fairly simple, all Gabriel had to do was go inform Azrael, let him chatter about it and let him spread the news to everyone to get dressed and prepare to look their best.
No, that was the easy part. The hard part was going to Samuel and informing him of the current situation….
When Gabriel went inside Samuel's room, they saw him putting on a red and black suit, adjusting his bow-tie. Without even bothering to turn around he said,"What do you want, Gabriel? Can't you see I'm trying to get ready?"
"How did you-"
"I just could. Natural talent I suppose…" He admitted as he began trimming his hair,"Now, mind telling me why you are here? Azrael already told me about the wedding, I don't need you reminding me to look presentable. If that's the reason you're here then you are free to leave. I can do this myself…"
"No, it's not that…"
"Then what is it? If it's truly important then you better make it quick…"
"It's important. Micheal wants you to be his best man…"
Samuel flinched, snipping a portion of his hair that he hadn't intended to cut in the process. Freezing up the former Ruler of the Hell turned his head and said,"You're kidding, right? This isn't the time to pull my leg, Gabriel."
"I'm not pulling your leg, brother. Micheal told me to tell you in his place."
"Why me? Can't he have someone else do it? I'm certain just about anyone else could be the best man. I shouldn't even be at the wedding and now I'm expected to be the best man? What type of cruel joke is this? If you're trying to screw with my mind, at least be upfront about it because I won't even bother to go if that's the case."
"We're not trying to do anything, Samuel. I'm just telling you what Micheal wants. Despite your actions, Micheal really does want you there and it'd be a shame if you were to skip out on the big day just because you don't want to be there for him. Are you that ungrateful towards Micheal that you'll allow your pettiness to ruin the happiest day of his life? He'll be devastated if you don't come to the wedding and everyone will be disappointed in you!"
"What difference does it make? Everyone's already disappointed in me. I can't think of a single person that knows what has gone on that isn't disappointed in me. Me being there won't change anything because at the end of the day, MY LIFE IRREPARABLY RUINED!" He snapped, grabbing Gabriel by the collar,"Do you have a single clue what it's like? Having your family turn their backs on you all because of a STUPID LIE!? Everything I worked for was for nothing! And do you want to know the 'best' part of all this? I did all of that for them! I thought that fusion's existence would become a threat to my family and I feared he'd try to target them! And you know what I get? Everything is falling apart on me! Everyone turns their backs on me without a second thought! I work for eons and I lose it all because some stupid cyclops and a moth wanted revenge for their property! I lost everything because of them! I lost my family, I lost my realm, my pride...my will to live...Everything is gone, Gabriel..."
They flinched,"I...I'm sorry, brother…"
"Be quiet, I don't need your sympathy, Gabriel. I already know it's fake, you don't need to pretend to feel bad…"
"I'm not pretending, Samuel. I know it hurts but maybe if we help you, we could all help you move on. There's no going back so we may as well try to make the best of the situation. I get that you're hurting but maybe it's time you accept help, or are you still too prideful to accept it despite being broken down?"
"What do you know? You don't know what I'm going through…"
"I may not, but I do understand the feeling of losing someone important to you. It may not be the same situation but when you left...everything wasn't exactly rays of sunshine. Everyone was anxious and it took a while for things to cool down. Even now that you're back, we've never fully recovered from the loss."
"At least you had the others…I have no one…"
"That's not true, you have us. We may not be the greatest band of siblings but we can still make something out of this. All we're asking out of you is to be more open and let us all be your family this time around. Give us a chance, brother, because we're the only ones you have left at this point. You've got nothing else left to lose trying to open up again, there's no harm in giving it a chance. Everyone's worried about your mental health and the least you could do is try and improve. At the very least, put it aside and allow Micheal to be happy for today by showing up. He really wants you there and I'm certain the others do despite their...opinions of you. We all still love you, even if you don't feel the same way towards us."
"Are you saying the others love me to make me feel better? Because I hate to say it's working…"
They chuckled,"Trust me, they really do love you, brother. They're just a bit hesitant to trust you after everything you've done. If you show them your better qualities than you can prove their judgments wrong…"
He sighed,"Alright then, you've convinced me. I'll go, not just for my sake but for Micheal's. He still gave me a chance when everyone else didn't. I still don't get why any of you care for me after all this time, but I guess the least I can really do is be there for Micheal when he was there for me…"
"That's the spirit!" Gabriel then looked at the time,"Oh sweet Heavens! We're beyond late! The wedding has no doubt started already! We need to go if we don't want to completely miss it!"
Just then, a thought came to his mind. He couldn't leave, not without it first. It'd be wrong to attend something for his brother and not have it with him.
"Wait...I need to go get something before we go…" He then began searching through the drawers of his room desperately.
"But what about the wedding? We'll miss it!"
"We've probably missed most of it already. Look, just give me some time so I can remember where it might be. If I'm going to be late, I'm at least going to have something for him…."
"Fine. If you say so…"
At the Garden of Eden, things had already taken off while they were away.
Most of the other angels were standing around with Charlie, who had agreed to come up and be her mother's maid of honor.
By now, the vows had already taken place and everyone was helping themselves to the food and drinks at the tables. There was an indoor area installed in Eden, a ballroom of sorts that gave everyone the space to roam around at their leisure.
Micheal's gaze shifted to the side, still seeing no sign of the person he had been looking for the most,'He's still not here..Should've known. Guess I had too much hope for him after all. And to think he still cared…'
"Michael," Lilith called out,"I know missing the wedding is bad but there's no need to have it ruin your whole mood. The wedding went on without him and while it would've been nice for him to show up, it ultimately wasn't a requirement. We already had a backup in mind in case he decided not to show so nothing of value was lost since Leroy filled in for him."
"Nothing except my hope. It may not have been a requirement but I feel a bit upset that he refused to come. I'm not even mad, I'm just disappointed…"
She twisted her lips, clutching the chalice in her hand. Micheal had been rather down and even after the wedding bells rang, Lilith could tell Samuel's absence had taken a large chuck of Micheal's enthusiasm away, leaving him down in the dumps. During the wedding itself, Micheal was constantly looking from side to side and Lilith had to initiate the kiss herself when Azrael told them to as Micheal was too distraught to do it on his own.
She scowled,'Damn that stubborn bastard. Chooses now of all times to bail on us…'
And it wasn't just her, all the other angels and even Charlie herself were disappointed, somewhere muttering things about how much of a 'now show' their brother was and how they had low expectations and still got disappointed in the end. Nobody was really happy and the wedding had taken a negative turn to Samuel not showing up…
Needless to say, when Samuel and Gabriel finally made their way to Eden's ballroom, everyone's eyes immediately snapped towards them. Samuel flinched at the judgmental gazes sent his way, especially by his former wife and daughter.
"Something tells me we got here way later than expected…" Gabriel muttered,"And it looks like everyone's angry at you, brother…"
"I can tell…" Samuel mumbled,"Do you think we should leave? I don't think they want me here, Gabriel…"
"No, there's no need to run. We're all family here and no matter how intimating everyone looks, they won't hurt you. Remain calm and maybe we can work ourselves out of this mess…""
Samuel nodded before speaking up,"Um...Hey guys...I...I know it looks really bad but I swear, me being late wasn't intentional. I didn't miss out on the wedding on purpose. I just…"
"Just what?" Charlie asked,"Seriously Dad, what the fuck is this excuse? You weren't late by five minutes, it was SEVERAL HOURS! What were you doing that could take several hours to do!?"
"I...I was-"
"Was what?" Lilith demanded,"Tell us what you were doing that caused you to miss the entire wedding! You couldn't even be there for Micheal when he needed you, what is the excuse for this!? You were never like this before, how bad is the damage to your mind that you can't even arrive on time for a wedding!?"
"It's because I was looking for something special. I couldn't leave without it…"
"Do you really expect anyone to believe that? This sounds like an excuse and it's not going to get you anywhere…"
"Lilith, dear I-"
She cut him off,"Don't call me dear. You lost the right to do that long ago."
He shrunk, a slight stammer in his voice,"I...I'm sorry Lilith…"
"Apologize to my husband, not me. He's the one who deserves your apology…"
Samuel didn't move for a moment, his gaze going to Micheal, who refused to meet his gaze.
"Michael I-"
"You don't need to lie,"He said,"I understand if you're doing this out of spite, but please don't make excuses. It just makes things worse.
"But I'm not lying," Samuel shot back,"I know it looks bad, but you've got the wrong idea. I hadn't intended to miss the wedding. I get that no one here is going to take my word for it but I really did want to get there in time…"
"Do you expect me to believe that? It's hard to take someone's word for it when they're a known liar…" Micheal replied bitterly,"Hard to tell when someone's sincere when they're known to be a compulsive liar. I know Gabriel probably guilted you into coming, just leave, there's no point in being here if you don't want to be. You've made it clear of your opinion of me, just go so you don't ruin what's left of this party…"
Gabriel seemed ready to speak up on Samuel's defense, but Samuel shook his head,"Let me handle this…" Sighing he looked up at his estranged twin,"Micheal, I get it. You're upset but please, at least hear me out just this once. I know I'm not welcome here but I really just want to get this off my chest. Once I'm done, I'll leave as promised…"
The younger twin pinched the bridge of his eyes,"Fine. Say what you will. Just don't make me regret giving you a platform…"
All eyes were on him, Gabriel nervously clutching their shoulders.
"Listen everyone, I get it. I've done a lot of things and you all have valid reasons to dislike me one way or another. I'm aware that I've made a lot of mistakes, especially in the past few years that have cost me dearly. And now, I don't really have anyone anymore. I've disappointed everyone around me either just recently or all those eons ago. I should've said Thai earlier but...I'm sorry everyone. I failed all of you. I failed at being a Ruler, a husband, a father and even a brother. I...I think Father was wrong about me. I wasn't special, I wasn't the best, I'm just...a mistake. A mistake that nobody wants to deal with and would be better off dead. Too bad Father made it so we can't die, else I'd probably not be here."
Micheal tensed,"Samuel-"
"I'm not done yet, Micheal. Especially since I...really owe you a separate apology. You're the only reason I'm not wandering some wasteland with no purpose in life. I still don't quite understand why you let me back in, was it because you loved me or was it because you felt pity for me? Or was it both?"
He didn't say anything, eyes averted to the side.
"On second thought, don't answer. I already knew what the reason was. Don't worry, I'm not going to judge you for it. Micheal, I'm really sorry, I'm sorry I let you down so many times over. I'm sorry I couldn't have been the brother you wanted me to be. I'm sorry for being nothing but a waste of space. I know I'm incapable of fixing my mistakes, but I figured that maybe, just maybe you'd want something. I made a few adjustments to it but I'm certain you'd like it regardless…"
Samuel then pulled out the old necklace and handed it over to Micheal. There was a different inscription on the front and there were visible rubies put around as extra decoration. It seemed like Samuel had put the time in to relocate the necklace for Micheal's sake and his alone.
Instead of saying 'Best Brothers' it said 'Best Brother', the 's' completely removed from the equation.
"I think you deserve this more than me...It wouldn't be right if I wore this after everything that's transpired. This necklace is better off in your possession than it is in mine."
"I can't take this…We're supposed to be sharing and-"
"I'm not taking no for an answer. This necklace deserves a better owner and I think you'll do nicely…"
Seeing no other option, Micheal put the necklace on, feeling the metal for a split second before smiling at his shorter twin,"Thank you, brother…"
"It's the least I could do for you. I already missed out on your wedding and I figured gifting you something would at least lessen the blow. I'm ashamed to say that when Gabriel told me that I was your best man that I refused to believe it. I thought it was a trick or that you were doing it to mock me in some way. Only now do I realize that you just wanted me to be included in the event. I'm sorry that I let you down this badly…"
"It's alright. I know you now that you didn't intend to be late. Perhaps if I had gone myself we could've cleared things up before it got to this point. I shouldn't have sent Gabriel after you, that was such a dreadful mistake on my end."
"Hardly matters now does it? The wedding is already ruined and I may as well leave. I've done my part and I don't think I should stay here any longer. I'm already bothering everyone with my existence so I should see myself out…" Micheal then grabbed his arm before he could go,"What are you doing, Micheal? I need to go…"
"No you don't. It wouldn't be right if you left. You deserve to be here just like everyone else and I don't want you to drive everyone away again when you're trying to make amends. We're all family here and you deserve a spot just like the rest of us…"
"Are you saying that I'm allowed to stay here? Are you certain the others will be OK with that?"
"Of course you're allowed! And if anyone dares to try and kick you out...they'll have to deal with me. And I doubt anyone here wants that…"
Samuel seemed somewhat relieved, rubbing the back of his head,,'Well...in that case, why don't we pronounce a toast to this occasion?"
"I don't see why not," Micheal shrugged,"It would certainly liven the party up…"
Samuel held out a glass of wine and weakly smiled,"I know I didn't get the chance to give a speech at the wedding, so let this be a way to make up for my absence. I wish my brother the happiest of days with his new beloved wife! May you two always be at each other's side! For prosperity and a better future, let's all wish them eternal happiness for the rest of time! May you always be satisfied! Cheers!"
Everyone applauded, cheering and hollering in response.
Afterwards, the party seemed to go much smoother. Music was playing, the mood had lightened and just about everyone was happier with how things were rolling. Micheal and Lilith were dancing together, his mood noticeably perked up. Both wife and husband were smiling, gazing lovingly into each other's eyes.
"Happy now, my beloved?"
"Yes...Lilith…Very…"
"About time, I'm glad to see your mood improve. That'll make the activities we do later more fun.." She then tugged on his suit, smiling deviously.
"Lilith, we can't do that here. We're in public…"
She chuckled,"Relax, I was only messing with you, love..mostly…."
"We'll do it in private, Lilith. Not here, everyone's still watching,"He chided, scolding his new wife about her behaviour.
"Fine. As long as you go through with your promise I'll try to be patient…."
From the distance, Samuel stood there as he watched his brother dance with Lilith, the couple appearing as content as could be.
'I've never seen him so happy before…' His expression then faltered, still keeping up a weak smile,'And neither have I seen Lilith that happy with me, even on our big day…' He remembered that day when they were getting married, back when things were normal. He thought that was the happiest day of both of their lives...only to get proven wrong one day.
"And I know...they'll be happy as husband and wife...and I know…." He then turned his head away from the sight,"I'll never be satisfied...I'll never be satisfied…" A lone tear trickled down his face, holding the glass of win in his hand alone.
"Brother?" Gabriel called out,"Are you alright?"
Samuel blinked, snapping out of his trance before reluctantly nodding,"Yes, actually. I'm alright…"
They made a face, putting a hand on his shoulder,"It's for the best, brother. It's time to let her go, she's with the love of her life now...Be happy for them…"
"I am happy for both of them.I'm just...a bit upset that's all…"
"Don't worry, brother. Even if you don't have her anymore, you still have the rest of your family, along with your daughter…"
"What about her? We aren't exactly on good terms, Gabriel…"
"I know, but she wants to speak with you. Perhaps she's giving you a chance. I suggest you not waste it. What do you say? Everyone's waiting to talk to you now that you've opened up. Are you going to come with me or not?"
"I...I will…"
He took their hand and allowed them to lead him away. It wasn't much, but it was a step in the right direction as far as he was concerned and he couldn't

Enigmus-288: You can thank Cherri and Val for lying to his face about Vol. Cherri at least has Angel waiting for her at the end of the road, he doesn't really have anyone outside of Micheal and the other angels. Everyone else kind of just...moved on.
