Fighting Destiny 7
Chapter 36 Wendy Reaches a Decision
"
Jax and Tara made Sunday a fun day for Abel. They could come together as a family because Abel needed a strong family to feel secure especially after the death of his much loved and missed baby brother.
Tara had gone to the local dollar store a few weeks ago and gotten some toddler safe toys she put in a nylon carry bag. She was going to have him close his eyes and reach into the bag and pull out a toy—one for every day they were on the road to Louisiana. She was saving this surprise for the first day of their trip. Looking forward to the trip and keeping herself together for Abel's sake were the only two things holding her together.
She and Jax helped Abel decide which toys to bring in the van with him. She packed his clothes in his suitcase while he watched to make sure she was bringing the clothes he liked to wear the best.
Abel was the bright spot in her life. She'd been there for his birth, helped care for him in the hospital, put him in Jax's arms the first time he got to hold his son and been a true mother to him. She was proud of the healthy, happy little boy he'd grown into. Losing Baby Nate would be so much worse if she didn't have Abel to love and focus on.
That night, Jax tried to get closer, telling her that he just wanted to hold her in his arms. Tara knew Jax and sex. She doubted that was what he really had in mind. She didn't understand why he didn't understand that she needed some space to heal.

On Monday, Wendy realized it was time to make a decision. She loved Jax as much today as she did when she married him. If only that pinch-faced bitch hadn't come back to Charming, she knew she could get Jax back. She'd even been willing to be a mother to Abel, but the truth was she had never been very maternal. Yes, he may be her flesh and blood, so what? It wasn't fault that she was born without a maternal gene.
It wasn't as if she would ever hurt him or be one of those neglectful mothers who let their kids run around dirty and hungry. If she and Jax got back together, she would be a good mother.
Deep down in her heart, Wendy realized she lost Jax when Abel was born early thanks to her drug use. It didn't help that Tara had been there helping with Abel's care. It was a double blow; she'd screwed up Abel and pinch faced bitch had been there to swoop in and save Abel and snatch Jax away.
The truth was harsh. There wasn't a hell of a lot she could do about it, but she could have a measure of revenge. She picked up her cell phone and made a call.

Clay thought he was going to lose his mind. He was so damned sick of Gemma's endless moaning about Jax leaving Charming. Lots of people's kids lived in different towns and states. He wisely didn't point this out to Gemma.
As it got closer to the day when Opie and Piney would reveal they were also leaving the MC, Clay was beginning to have second thoughts about losing three members all at once. It might make him look bad to the other charters. They needed to get serious about recruiting new members or SAMCRO was going to be the smallest and therefore weakest chapter. They were going to have to get help from Tacoma to help with their weapons sales to the cartel and muling the coke for Alvarez.
He was also losing Jax's brain. There was no one left in SAMCRO that he could rely on to do the strategic thinking that Jax was so good at. Yeah, he was actually going to miss him.
He knew there was nothing he could do to convince Jax to stay in Charming. He agreed with Gemma that Tara was the driving force behind this move. She'd never settled into MC life. She thought she was better than all the other old ladies.
Without Tara pressuring him to leave town, Jax would stay. If Tara died, Jax would need his MC and family around him. As far as Piney and Opie were concerned, they could stay or go, he didn't care. Jax would stay though. He would need Gemma to help care for Abel and he would need his MC brothers to go after the person or persons who killed Tara.
Henry Lin was becoming more of a problem lately. Jax leading a revenge mission against Lin could help out SAMCRO and Gemma would quit whining about losing her precious son.
Clay needed to think a little more about killing Tara. Figure out all the angles especially if he decided to set up Lin for it.

Ally Lowen knew the score with the MC and she was a seasoned criminal defense attorney, she expected her clients to lie to her. It was part of the job. Truth was, she didn't want to know if her clients were guilty; it just complicated her defense.
She listened to Tara's story about going to the prison to check on Otto. Since Luann died, Otto had been in a bad place emotionally and she wanted to help him. Tara had no idea how Otto got the cross. In her conversations with him, he seemed to have a lot of resentment and hate for Jax. Tara said she believed Otto was lying to hurt Jax through her.
Ally Lowen thought Tara gave the cross to Otto for some reason Otto made up and he knew it contained a knife. The nurse that he killed could have been anyone. His victim wasn't important. She thought Tara was right that Otto planned the killing to hurt Jax. Otto had always been unbalanced, but between prison and his wife's death, he'd gone bat shit crazy.
In the end, it didn't matter what she thought or even what the truth was. As long as they couldn't put the cross in Tara's hands, she would be OK. She stressed to Tara that she needed to know if anyone might say she gave Otto the cross. Tara insisted she didn't give the cross to Otto, so that was impossible.
Ally thought that Tara should hold up pretty well when she was questioned. She was going to tell them the same story she'd told when she first talked to them. That was an advantage of representing smart clients; they remembered to keep their stories the same.
As long as there was no witness; there was no crime. Ally picked up her office phone and made arrangements for detectives to come to her office to interview Tara. This was a power play on her part. Tara didn't have to talk to the detectives; Ally made it clear that she was doing the detectives a favor by allowing them to even talk to her client.
Tomorrow was going to be one of the most important days of Tara's life.
